Here's MY little history about dis group..............2006-01-12
Now, I'm a true hip hop fan hailin' out the DUB-K but i have relocated to the southwest here in Tucson, Arizona. I heard of these katz since they lead single "Just Another Case" was released in 1997. I actually heard this particular song on a local radio station called Power 93.9 in Wichita, KANSAS when I lived in the midwest. Yo, i was buggin because the song was sooo hyped i was askin every single one of my hip hop homiez who in the hell was the artists that sang this song?? To my surprise, it was only my brother and I who even knew the song existed. The funny thing is......that KANSAS station (Power 93.9) was ALLLLLWAYZ playing that song in Wichita for 2 straight years. Now, iknow a lot of y'all are suprised to know that secluded little Kansas even knew who CRU was but y'all should close y'all mouths cuz hip hop DOES exist in that particular midwest state, so accept it, lol. Back to the story though, check it, I was in love with that song so much...i decided to get my little tape player and I recorded that song on tape when it was playing on the radio. A few years past....I still had the tape....my parents were talking about moving....we moved...so here I am now. I listened to the tape again after we moved here to Arizona (it was around 2001) and since we had a computer I decided to search for it on KAZAA. Yo, I finally found "Just Another Case" and I about passed out. This track will always stay close to my heart y'all. There ain't no beats or lyrics out there like this y'all. It just can't be compared. The style is just beyond comparison. I found the song and burned it on disc with some of my other favorite songs. I STILL to this day wonder who produced that song..(scratches his head)..well n-e-wayz.. It was still 2001 when I decided to buy the album and it WASN'T the smartest move of my life. I felt a lot of the songs. But then there were just tooo many songs that I was NOT feeling. I think there was just waaay too many experimental weird synthesizer sounds I'm guessing. It was pretty much even...15 whack azz tracks compared to 15 tight azz tracks...give or take a few (who knows). So eventually I sold it to a local music store here in Arizona. I imagine someone else will make the same move that I did, with the same state of mind and motivation, and that's perfectly fine with me. This CD will appeal to some people and then it won't for some others. Personally I'd reccomend the albums 'At the speed of life' by Xzibit, 'Foundation' by Brand Nubian, or even 'Soundbombing II' compilation on Rawkus records produced by the beat junkies to name a few. Those are the records that I roll to...but if this is ya cup a tea, then more power 2 ya. Yo, if you want my opinion...this CD IS listenable and keepable. It's not one of those CD's you want to completely avoid but I guess i'm just too picky when it comes to my underground muzik. Oh yeah and if y'all want to cop REAL 5 star gems..I know all y'all new york niggaz already own this but check "Infamous" and "hell on earth" by mobb deep. Wouldn't hurt to try out some Boot camp click neither. Aiight, Well i'm out. ENJOY! ;-D.
Do you see this?.......2005-12-17

It's Been Great While It Lasted................2005-09-21
Very little is known about this trio consisting of producer/MC Yogi, Chaddeo and hype man Mighty Ha, one thing for sure....is if you didn't purchase this album during the first year that it was released, it is a very hard find now(I actually heard a rumor that's it's no longer manufactured). This trio did enjoy the success and spoils of a major label(Def Jam) and Yogi actually enjoyed some accolades as an in house producer for Bad Boy in the late 90's. Anyway, back to this album...entitled Da Dirty 30...which actually is about half of actual songs and half skits. However, all production is handled personally by Yogi himself and in my opinion each track is better than the next. Yogi and Chaddeo share the mic on mostly all of the actual tracks....with hype man Mighty Ha(who bears a striking resemblance to the late Big L)contributing on a few songs. A few guest appearances by the likes of the legend Slick Rick and Black Rob make this a solid release. Even though, I despise an album with a lot of filler...the skits aren't that bad...the hilarity contained in the skits is refreshing at the times...especially the "Hoe 2 Society" which actually reenacts the "Menace To Society" scene where Caine is being questioned by the detective over the events of the liquor store murders....with Yogi playing the part of the detective to an unsuspecting female accused of too many "d**k suckings". With that in mind, if you have this already, you know what I'm talking about....if you don't have it and this review sparked your interest....good luck in attempting to find this.
Something thats classic.......2005-05-05
You know something thats a classic when you can put it in years later and still feel the same way about it, when you used to play it back in the day..Ie.Nas-Stillmatic,Wutang-Enter da 36 chambers. You get the point right?I brought CRU-Da dirty 30 years ago, when it first came out and not to sound like the other reviews, but this is ONE OF THEE MOST SLEPT ON CLASSICS OF ALL TIME!!!I recently pulled it out of the basement a couple of weeks ago and its now 2005 and I cant stop playing it.I wish they continued making records, its the kind of music/artists that hip hop needs right now.
