NEED SOME ILL TUNES FOR A SESSION? Here You Go..........2004-03-26
Well first off let me say that I do support the recreational use of a certain mood-altering substance . . . That which this CD is titled... THC. That being said, this recent compilation of weed-oriented tracks is better than 99% of the "hip-pop" that you here on the radio, see on MTV and BET. I've listened to this CD probably around 30 times and it hasn't lost much (if any) of it's replay value. . . The tracks that I initially liked the first time through are probably my least favorite now, like the track with SRK and B-Real from Cypress, it's tight no doubt, but compared to some of the others it's just a little bit simple in production and rhymes. MY FAVORITE TRACK is "My Favorite Ladies" from the not-too-well-known mc MF DOOM. Instead of just rhymin about hittin bongs in cars he talks about different illicit pharmaceuticals as if if they were different "ladies" HA HA HA ... it's classic. Some of the other ill tracks include: "High Times," "Puff Puff Pass," "Bomb Tree," and of course "Escape" from Ripshop with some of the most positive lyrics about herbs that will really make you feel good about jus' blazin'. To close, IF YOURE SOME CLOSE-MINDED, SOBER-AZZ MOFO, PLEASE DO US ALL A FAVOR, DONT BUY THIS CD AND TRY TO POSE>>> To all the rest that burn trees and keep it real, this album is a MUST for your collection... don't hesitate.... just pick it up...I ain't lying. PEACE, 4:20, it's time.
it's not the doja ... more like mid-grade.......2002-10-03
I'll keep this brief ... basically a solid disc, but the first time through you may not necessarily agree. This is one of those albums where you'll be feeling a few tracks from the start, eventually play those out, and discover new ones. The CD kicks off with the High & Mighty, which, if you're unfamiliar, is one of the tightest white boy duos in hip-hop (frankly, I can't think of any other right now so heck, lets just say they're the dopest). Not quite as good as anything off their previous releases, but it still oozes that underground sound and benefits from DJ Mighty Mi's dexterious production. The Pharcyde track is off the heezy ... man, that beat will be in your head for days on end. The song featuring the Liquid Crew is mediocre, but Phil da Agony's off-the-dome style and E-Swift's beat salvage an otherwise lackluster effort. Track 8 with Defari is worth repeat listens, as well as track 9 with Afu-Ra. I gotta say though, the last track, G-13, with the Wu's RZA and I guess some Wu affiliate, Timbo King or somethin' like that ... anyhoo, man, this track is frickin' DOPE. This is one of the tightest songs about weed I've ever heard. The production is blazin', and, if you are too, you will understand what I mean. Both RZA and this other fool bust some sick herb-related rhymes, which sound freestyled, allowing any true hip-hop head to appreciate it that much more. So, to wrap this up ... if you smoke, you oughta buy this CD. If not, I'd steer clear, 'cuz every track on here is about the superb herb.
wanna get high?.......2002-07-08
Its about time someone did a tribute to hip hop's most influential element...weed. and its not the same old song you'd expect from yesteryear like Hits from the bong or something. its all new weed songs from greats like The Rza, Black Moon, The Beatnuts and The Pharcyde. My favorite two songs are from The High & Mighty and MF DOOM (he used to be in the group KMD). The beats are crazy and when you rhyme about getting high the lyrics obviously come out dope. Can't wait for volume 2, they gotta get snoop dogg on the next one though!
