4 out of 5 stars Excellent Fayre..........2007-07-06

I'm afraid I can't agree with Captain Jax, when he says Blackmore's Night lack the spark on stage of a realy talented band, I assume he hasn't seen the Castles And Dreams DVD..however, onto this album, my one criticism is that "The Clock Ticks On" is not it..otherwise it's a very good representation of how BN sound live.Everyone plays well Candice is in fine voice and they sound as though they are having a great time, I've been a fan of Ritchie since Deep Purple In Rock, and I think he has paid his dues to the rock world. Carry on Ritchie. This is great music.

4 out of 5 stars Renaissance rock from Ritchie Blackmore and Co........2007-03-19

This double live album contains an intimate atmosphere from a cool audience which adds to the power of this truly wonderful performance. It's also an excellent sounding live album. You got to love these traveling minstrels. Their live versions are extended and are different from the studio versions. If you haven't heard Blackmore's Night before, "Past Times With Good Company" is a great introduction.

Past Times With Good Company ~ Blackmore's Night: 4 1/2 stars

3 out of 5 stars Brilliant musicianship, sophomoric lyrics and commentary.......2006-03-18

Blackmore's brilliant musicianship is poorly reflected in Candice Night's sophomoric lyrics and commentary. This was OK for the first album and has become more obvious, particularly on this release.

Buy this CD for Blackmore's performance but grit your teeth when Candice Night starts talking like an "Oh wow, isn't this great?" tourist.

1 out of 5 stars What a joke!.......2006-02-07

I can't beleve that Ritchie Blackmore- the premier guitar virtuoso of Deep Purple and Rainbow would plummet to a style that has no relationship with Rock and Roll. This is all midevil crap that sounds like it should be in a musical or footstomp or the toilet! If you are looking for vintage Blackmore don't buy these Blackmore's Knight recordings. You will be disappointed, shocked, stunned and disillusioned. [...]

5 out of 5 stars Excellent and Majestic!.......2005-12-18

I loved this live CD of Blackmore's Night. It's a great addition to any Blackmore's Night collection. Candice's voice along with Ritchie's wonderful playing blends together to make a haunting and marvolous CD. I recommend it for any devoted Blackmore's Night fan.

    Album Description

"Mirror of the Middle Ages" is TSBB's latest foray into the world of the ancient medieval past. Originally published in a limited edition vinyl format one year earlier, this CD edition represents the band's sixth official full-length release. This CD edition also differs from the original vinyl edition, in that it features a different track listing and design. Notable is the electronic and bombastic contemporary version of "Palistinalied (21st Century Remix)." "Mirror of the Middle Ages" is composed of several original works as well as a variety of traditional pieces interpreted by the band, ranging from the early medieval period all the way up to the Renaissance, while expressing both the sacred and the profane. In total, it is indeed a summary of past times to be relived.

5 out of 5 stars Peppino is Awesome!.......2002-04-23

I watched and listened to Peppino play at a children's benefit concert. I was blown away with his playing ability and creativity. Since then, I have kept his cd playing over and over! I introduce his music to everyone I can. He is awesome! So far, everybody who has listened has fallen in love with Peppino!
You will too! Buy the CD... You won't believe the volume of music that Peppino brings out of one guitar!

5 out of 5 stars Great Acoustic Guitar Artistry.......2000-10-14

Peppino's playing is amazing: he has incredible rhythms and melodies. I just saw him play a few days ago. He says that his musical focus is creating melodies; and he succeeds with beautiful melodies. His rhythmic groove on his faster pieces is incredible: you can't stop your foot bouncing. He uses odd meters such as 5/4 to great driving effect; and always with a fine melody. He slower pieces are always beautiful and evocative. He unique musical voice is nurtured by classical, Mediterranean folk, blues, Celtic, funk, and informed by the music of Michael Hedges, Leo Kottke, and Peter Finger.

This album is wonderful, and it is done as solo acoustic guitar: nothing gets in the way of his fine guitar playing. The last track has some characteristic parts played by Peter Finger, who also engineered it at his Acoustic Music Studios. Great record.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent value package of three essential Al Stewart albums.......2004-10-02

This remastered collection of three complete albums (plus one bonus track not originally on an album) is an essential addition to the range of Al Stewart albums available on CD. In particular, it is significant in being the first time his acclaimed conceptual album `Past present and future' has been available on CD in Britain. The three albums were Al's fourth, fifth and sixth original LPs, dating from 1972 to 1975, the latter half of his period with CBS Records. They document the development of Stewart's distinctive sound and songwriting style as he moved away from being a Dylan-influenced `folk' singer towards the greater musical sophistication and commercial success of his late 70s albums.

`Orange' and `Past present and future' were produced by John Anthony, who had been working at the time with bands as diverse as Genesis and Lindisfarne, whilst `Modern times' was produced by Alan Parsons, who would also work on Al's subsequent albums `Year of the cat' and `Time passages'. The albums are generally dominated by acoustic guitar rhythms, augmented by tasteful electric and classical guitar work, keyboards and orchestration, and they include several epic 6 to 10 minute long narrative songs (such as `The news from Spain', `Old admirals', `Roads to Moscow', `Nostradamus' and `Modern times') which are among Stewart's most memorable work. In the `Modern times' album particularly, under the guidance of Alan Parsons, the recording sound becomes more ambitious and diverse, culminating in the soaring orchestra and lead guitar ending of the title track (courtesy of Andrew Powell and Tim Renwick), which proved to be a dry run for the even more memorable climax to `Year of the cat', recorded a year later.

In addition to the music, what adds to the appeal of this package is that the complete lyrics, credits and liner notes from the original albums are included, together with a detailed and informative essay. My only very minor criticism is that the original album covers are reproduced only in miniature, and no other original artwork is included (it would have been particularly interesting to see again the evocative `car and mansion' photo which was used on the cover of some early editions of the `Modern times' LP). But altogether, this is an indispensable addition to the CD collection of any Al Stewart aficionado, and serves as a welcome reminder of the quality work produced in the early 70s by this often underrated and overlooked artist.

    4 out of 5 stars Good Value.......2004-03-31

Much to my disappointment several of the advertised tracks were missing. Instead of "Once An Organe, Always Orange," the disc I received had the more familiar "Once an Orange, Always an Orange." Also missing were such heretofore unheard of tracks as "Past World War Two Blues" and "Nat the One." Despite Amazon's eccentric spelling, with the addition of the bonus track "Swallow Wind," the songs on this set are just as they appear on the albums. (Edited to note that Amazon has since corrected its spelling.)

Disc one contains the complete "Orange" and "Past, Present & Future" LPs. Disc two starts with the "Swallow Wind" bonus track and then moves on to the complete "Modern Times" album. The only thing that you don't get with this set that you would get if you bought the CDs individually are two bonus tracks from the BGO release of Modern times--the single version of "News From Spain" and "Elvaston Place," which was the B side of "News from Spain." Since the album version of "News Form Spain is included on "Orange," you only give up one song by buying this set rather than the individual CDs, and that song isn't one that anyone is likely to miss.

The set comes nicely packaged with a booklet that contains the lyrics to all the songs, plus an essay about the three albums. I did not notice any difference in sound quality between this release and the other CD versions that I have heard. That may be because there is no difference, or it could just be me.

The three albums in this set represent a transitional between Al Stewart's early albums (collected in the set "To Whom It May Concern") with their folk-rock relationship angst and his more pop-oriented 70s hits "Year of the Cat" and "Time Passages." The albums included in this set are "Orange" (1972), "Past, Present & Future" (1973), and "Modern Times" (1975).

A lot of people think "Orange" is a great album. I am not among them. Fans of Stewart's early work would certainly like it.

A lot of people also think "Past, Present & Future" is a great album. I would have to agree, and it is the one that earns this set most of its stars. It is definitely among Stewart's best work.

"Modern Times" is a bit of a let down from "Past, Present & Future," but still a very good album with some very good songs. This was the first of three Al Stewart albums produced by Alan Parsons--the others being "Year of the Cat" and "Time Passages." It's not as good as the albums that would follow, but still a very respectable effort.

Represents Lee Mallory's best: from his Curt Boettcher-produced 1966 hit on Valiant Records (Reprise/WB) of "That's The Way It's Gonna Be" to the best of his present day recordings. Included in this CD are recordings not found on any other issue. Lee Mallory is a phenomenon. As a solo performer and member of the MILLENNIUM and SAGGITARIUS Lee helped CURT BOETTCHER and GARY USHER define the Soft-pop California style.... Lee took a left turn into writing and production with Boettcher, and became the first member of the latter's 'supergroup' THE MILLENNIUM. ANOTHER GREAT CD BY SONIC PAST MUSIC
