Product Description
The songs in Nervous set a variety of different moods from club mixes to more laid back tunes to downright relentless beats that send tingles up anybody's spine! Bonez, a.k.a. Atlas, has truly produced a masterpiece in this, his second album. With the repetition of much of today's hip-hop, it's refreshing to hear something with original styles and original lyrics on top of beats that could compete with and dominate over the likes of Timbaland and Dr. Dre! Although, Bonez has enough styles to change up the sound from song to song, he does feature artist on a number of cuts. Rat and High-C from the TCM rip it on C-Section (this joint is 100% guaranteed to have you head bobbin'. The powerfull voice of Julie de la Garza will stick in your head for days after hearing Minimum Wage and Illegal Activities. And once again, High-C comes back spittin' venemous rhymes in Power. Wow! Sensational Album.

5 out of 5 stars Well-Deserving of the the Five Star Average It Has on Here..........2007-06-24

'Enta Da Stage' by Black Moon is one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. Featuring great lyrics, an awesome, semi-dark atmosphere, and creative production, it is a must own for your hip-hop collection.

Featuring three MC's, in terms of groups that feature multiple rappers, I would say they're superior to the Wu Tang Clan and that this album is better than Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Lyrically, the group shines on tracks like 'Powerful Impak!', 'Ack Like U Want It', and 'U Da Man', and tracks like 'Who Got Da Props?', 'Niguz Talk S--t', and 'Slave' feature very creative beats and instrumentals.

Whether you're hip-hop collection is still rapidly growing and you've slept on this or you're a new fan, you really owe it to yourself to check out 'Enta Da Stage'. I have this classic on regular rotation.

Standout tracks: 'Niguz Talk S--t', 'Who Got da Props?', 'Black Smif-N-Wesson', and 'Slave'.

This album just won't leave my head! I try to listen to other stuff, but it just sounds......NOT GRIMY ENOUGH! When I close my eyes while listening to this cd I feel like I'm stickin kids up in an ally of buck-town. DJ EvilDee turned out some of the darkest beats I have ever heard..And I love em! I kept hearin how good this album was, but I never gave it a chance until about a year ago. I f***in loved it from the first sound of "Buck Em Down". I'm the type of person that listens to a new cd every week, but for some reason I keep scrollin to this on my ipod. Buckshot ripps the mic to shreds, EvilDee keeps it grimy, and 5ft. is a perfect sidekick. They don't make rap groups like this anymore......kinda sad:( Keep Bangin...Old School 4Lyfe

5 out of 5 stars A classic in da 90's.......2007-05-25

Out of 80 reviews, 72 people gave it 5 stars and i will make it 73. What can you say about an album that had songs like Enta Da Stage, Who Got Da Props, and my favorite How Many Emcees? Straight fire! Albums like this one brought the east coast back in 93 and paved the way for the legendary class of 94. The beats were hot and the rhymes were usually on point. A must have in da collection unless you're new school and you probably won't get it!

5 out of 5 stars Why would this not get 5 stars????.......2007-04-22

"Check how I kick it when I was wicked around the way/ hold my tech cuz my ni**as pump by day..." This album is STILL in heavy rotation in my car. High school on the bus with my walkman, with scotch tape around the headphones and the cassette. Enta Da Stage was THE classic grimey, rob a dude album. From the world's littlest dudes...we all somehow knew they weren't bluffing. If you don't have this album, or worse you never heard it, and you are a lover of "real hip hop" (a term I hate now) then straight up...you played yourself. Period.

4 out of 5 stars Great Debut.......2007-02-25

The Hooters were given a national spotlight after Rob Hyman co-wrote the classic "Time After Time" with Cyndi Lauper. They responded well with this successful and strong album. The first single, "All You Zombies", was a swipe at organized religion, a frank call to believers. The follow-up, "And We Danced" is one of the more underrated singles of the 80's; and "Day By Day" is a catchy, high energy song that showed the entertainment value of this tight band. The rest of the album is equally solid, including the excellent "Where Do The Children Go", a direct look at the lost generation of 80's teenagers. The strengths of this band were always their direct lyrics and high enthusiasm; and both are well evidenced on this album. Most consider this band a one-album wonder, which would be an unfortunate mistake, because their next album "One Way Home" is in my view one of the great albums of the 80's.

5 out of 5 stars Underrated Boys from Philly.......2006-09-22

The vocal tag team of Rob Hyman & Eric Bazillion lead the way for this unique rock sound sprinkled with folk. The band had the common instruments but also incorporated the likes of mandolin riffs and of course, the hooter (the keyboard-harmonica hybrid instrument that gave them a sound unlike any other group.

This debut CD includes such rock hits as "And We Danced" & "Day By Day" along with the softer "All You Zombies" as well as the ballad "Where Do The Children Go." None of them made it to #1, but they were hits for this group (but this may be best known to those who live in the Philladelphia area).

Other noteworthy songs on this CD include the groovin' "Hanging On A Heartbeat." You may also note how this song seems to be a pre-cursor to "Living in the Shadow of Jesus" from the Out of Body CD.

They show some angst toward our leaders (as we all have probably done at some point) with "Blood From a Stone." Although we are also reminded of how the 80' were a simpler time. The band curses once, but decided not to print the lyrics for most of that verse. HA!

All of the songs are enjoyable. This is a CD that one could play in the background for a party. Almost any song could be danced to on here.

Expectations for this band were high, but they never seemed to draw the critical acclaim they deserve. But if you like rock, but would like something a little different, pick up this CD. It's probably their best and best known one.

5 out of 5 stars Too Many "Best Hits Collections".......2005-06-25

That's right! There's Too Many "Best Hits Collections" of these guys. At last count there were more collections of Hooter songs than original albums issued. That's just plain WAKED. I suggest buying "zig zag", "Nervous Night" and "One Way Home" via the used venue here on amazon. This way you own ALL of the great music & YOU decide what their best hits are for yourself, don't let some record industry suit do it for you.

5 out of 5 stars The Definitive Hooters Album.......2005-02-12

NERVOUS NIGHT is the definitive Hooters album. On this record, the group's unique blend of new wave, Midwestern rock, California country-rock, Southern boogie rock, and acoustic folk breaks out of the starting gate fully formed, with highly empathetic lyrics and vocals topping it all off. Many of the songs have biblical over- and undertones, with admonitions about troubles in the distance looming throughout. This album is an absolute must for anyone interested in the Hooters.

4 out of 5 stars Powerful Debut - how didn't they become Superstars?.......2005-01-19

Back in 1985 and 1986, a band called "The Hooters" appeared on the music scene that seemed to have the promise of a great future. They had a debut album, "Nervous Night" that was garnering a lot of attention in the music industry. Although it wasn't a Top 10 album and didn't produce a #1 single, most were in agreement that The Hooters were destined for Superstardom. In fact, many people believed that 20 years later - the name Hooters could be associated as one of the legendary bands in music history. It's sad to say that Hooters is more known for being a restaurant and bar chain as opposed to a music band. Many things would go wrong for the band following "Nervous Night" - they were never able to capture the commercial success or critical acclaim they had back in 85 and 86. Yes the band is beginning to have a bit of a renaissance in Europe, but nothing that would approach what they saw when "Nervous Night" was released.

The Hooters seemed to have arrived at the perfect time. At the time "Nervous Night" had been released, the 80s music landscape was beginning to change. It was during the time of 1985 when the 80s music landscape began to move away from Synth-Pop toward a more guitar laden sound. Artists such as Bruce Springsteen and John Cougar Mellencamp were leading this charge. "Nervous Night" - while it did have its share of strong keyboard work by co-founder Rob Hyman was still an album that captured this guitar laden sound. It is kind of ironic that The Hooters were in the middle of this transformation. Co-founders Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian were involved in one of the most celebrated albums that is seems to be associated with the Synth-Pop sound - Cyndi Lauper's "She's So Unusual" album. On "She's So Unusual", Hyman was a co-writer with Lauper on one of the most critically acclaimed songs "Time After Time". Both Hyman and Bazilian contributed background vocals and instrumentation (Hyman: Keyboards and Hooter; Bazilian: Guitar, Bass, and Saxaphone). With a solid body of work on "She's So Unusual", Hyman and Bazilian took the next step in launching a debut album for their band.

The biggest hit song on the collection was "And We Danced". This is a very catchy song, but I think there is more than just a catchy song when you crack the surface of this track. There is almost a "retro/throwback" like quality to this track - something that was a popular thing to do during this period. This sound was also heard in artists such as John Caffertyand John Eddie. Lyrics such as "She was a be-bop baby on a hard day's night; She was hangin' on Johnny" is a great example of this. The whole song has a reminiscent quality to it - and it is very enjoyable. "Day by Day" in a lot of ways is the perfect song to follow "And We Danced". It has a similar type of "feel good dance feel to it". "Day by Day" doesn't have a reminiscent quality to it. This song looks more to the future. There is some terrific mandolin by Bazilian as well as as some strong guitar work.

While those first two tracks are very nice songs, the powerful songwriting that Hyman demonstrated on Lauper's "Time After Time" isn't heard until the third track, "All You Zombies".. When I first heard this track, - this really made me a fan of the band. The song has one of the great instrumental openings I ever heard in any song. The opening is dominated by some terrific guitar work that also contains keyboards. The nearly 1+ minute intro does great to create a setting to sing about the Old Testament's Moses and Noah. There also is another terrific instrumental bridge about 4 minutes into the song that features some more powerful guitar work - as well as some stellar drumming by an unsung hero of the album, David Uosikkien. This song drew some criticism from the Christian sector, but I do think this is one of the most powerful tracks of the collection.

The seventh track, "Where Do the Children Go" did get some airplay and also is an example of some terrific lyrics. This song deals with youth - and how youth is often misunderstood and led down the wrong path. This song features some outstanding guest vocals by Patty Smyth of Scandal. It's Patty's vocals that give this song a very special quality.

Although the other tracks might not have gotten airplay, there is some terrific stuff. "Don't Take My Car Out Tonight". This song has much more of a Synth-Pop feel - but it is still a good track. This might not have the strong lyrics of "All You Zombies" or "Where Do the Children Go", but it has some terrific instrumentation. Uosikkien has some nice drum work and Bazilian has some of his best saxaphone work at the end of the song. Also worth noting is the title track "Nervous Night". This track takes a little to grow on you. While not a blues song, this song almost gives you a feel of a song you would hear on a Mississippi River Riverboat. "Blood From a Stone" is the collection's finale. It features more Mandolin work that give this song an "up tempo folksy feel" - even a Bob Dylan feel to some extent. The song describes the expression "You can't get blood from a stone" There are also some lyrics not published in the liner notes that do use some mildly strong language.

Most of the lyrics to the songs are included (as the exception in "Blood From a Stone" is noted). This is a fabolous debut album. This should have been the start of something special for Hyman, Bazilian and company. It's a shame they failed to recapture the magic of this album. I'd highly recommend it.

On Are You Nervous?, Rock Kills Kid display a deep affinity for '80s acts such as Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, U2, and the Cure, yet rarely has a band wearing their influences this prominently on their sleeve sounded more refreshing. On the opening dance floor craze "Paralyzed," the steady rockin' "Hide Away," the frenetic "Don't Want To Stay," the easy-going but evocative "Back To Life," and the radio-ready title track, Rock Kills Kid demonstrate a knack for creating catchy, heartfelt rock & roll-inflected pop that places this outfit in a position to save contemporary music from itself. Rock Kills Kid are a great band that have already climbed to dizzying artistic heights and seem poised to climb to equally impressive commercial ones as well. A new high in American rock music. --Jedd Beaudoin

Album Description

With echoing, nervy guitars, driving rhythms, and new-wave synths, the debut from Rock Kills Kid is contemporary post-punk at its most addictive, jagged and atmospheric. Produced by Mark Trobino, the emotional tension woven throughout Are You Nervous? recalls some of the darkest, most angst-filled recordings by The Cure, Joy Division and The Smiths-but with Bono-and Springsteen-inspired raucous rocker Jeff Tucker in the spotlight. For Rock Kills Kid, rock'n'roll is salvation.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars WOW!!!.......2007-04-05

Wow! Rock Kills Kid's freshman album is a breath of fresh air. The first song, "Paralized" is a classic pop rock anthem. A hint of "U2" seems spread throughout the tracks along with simple, yet breathe-taking music. I picked this CD from the recommendation of a music store employee and I was not let down.

4 out of 5 stars Great album.......2007-03-23

In the same mold as The Killers and Boy Kill Boy (to name a couple), these guys are just as good as them. Lead singer's vocals may not be as distinct as others, but music is still great. I would say a little more of 80's flavor. The 1st five songs are hands down GREAT. The last 5 are average.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent debut.......2006-07-21

This is an excellent debut that I am surprised has received as little buzz as it has.

The comparisons to The Killers and The Bravery are valid but there are some differences. The Killers debut had a somewhat harder edge than this CD. Rock Kills Kid (RKK) songs are more similar to The Bravery but with better production and far better vocals.

The CD opens with the lead single Paralyzed a catchy danceable tune that should be RKK's breakout like Somebody Told Me was for The Killers. There are really no throwaway tracks on the CD but I do agree that the first half of the record is stronger than the second half. These guys channel lots of the 80's new wave groups as at times the vocals come off like Morrisey's and the third track Midnight sounds like Seven and the Ragged Tiger era Duran Duran.

A big complaint many reviewers will have is the brevity of the CD - I believe it clocks in at 38 minutes. Personally, I would rather have a strong short CD than a double CD filled with largely disposable trash (do you hear me Red Hot Chili Peppers!). It is an easy record to get your arms completely around it quickly.

Great CD, catchy beats, excellent production. I just hope more people hear about RKK.

2 out of 5 stars Sacrilege to compare with 80's legend bands........2006-07-14

To compare this with the Smiths the Furs and the Cure..?
is a sacrilege. It is far from those bands, not remotely in their league, and not even close to their sound..

Its lite bouncy uninspired pop. Which is fine, but please be honest with musical comparisons, perhaps listen to the refered bands before using them as a reference.

4 out of 5 stars Union Of The Snake........2006-06-23

If you read my reviews at all, then you know I'm a punk/new wave/romantic fanatic. I'm always on the lookout for new blood in the old vein. In the past 4 years several bands have brought back that classic sound from the late 70's and early 80's that has sorely been missing since 1990. Rock Kills Kid certainly have been influenced by U2, Duran Duran, Modern English, The Cure, The Smiths, The Psychedelic Furs and A Flock Of Seagulls among others. They compete perfectly with the new breeds The Killers, Interpol, The Music, Keane, Snow Patrol, Blue October, Arcade Fire and Franz Ferdinand to name but a few.

So, how IS the music on "Are You Nervous?" Well, I saw the video for "Paralyzed" on MySpace back in April 2006 and couldn't wait to pick up a copy in May. I've listened to it a dozen times and I have to say I'm looking forward to hearing more from this band. The first half of the disc is perfect with "Parlyzed", "Hideaway", "Midnight", "Are You Nervous?" and "Back To Life". Any of these five tracks should be hits on alternative radio stations across the country. Things stumble a bit on the back five as "Life's A Bitch" misses slightly, while "Run Like Hell" (no, not Pink Floyd's song) and "Don't Want To Stay" keep up the standard set on the first half of the disc. The final two tracks "Hope Song" and "Raise Your Hands" seem like toss offs. Overall, a great listen, and a great full-length debut.

5 out of 5 stars Pub rock's highpoint.......2005-07-16

Having found more original footing than their earlier attempts at CSN&Y styled folk-rock, Brinsley Schwarz made good on the roots-rock promise of pub rock with their fourth album, "Nervous on the Road." Nick Lowe dominates the 1972 album's songwriting credits, and though he went on to greater fame as a pure popster, he may never have authored such a singularly solid collection of songs. Ian Gomm and Bob Andrews each kick in for one apiece, with Gomm's excellent 50s-styled "It's Been So Long" taking the opening slot. Lowe's songs range from the twangy blue title song to organ-lined soul and country ballads. The album's covers are perfect fits, including a slightly ragged take of Chris Kenner's "I Like It Like That" and Ronnie Self's rockabilly "Home in My Hand." In a sense, Brinsley Schwarz showed itself to be the UK analog of Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen - a band whose roots took in country, soul, funk and early rock and strained them all through a really good time.

BGO's two-fer also includes the band's sixth (and final) release, 1974's "The New Favourites of Brinsley Schwarz." Lowe's original vision of "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding" opens with some overly aggressive percussion, but the laid-back vocal (and the chorus harmonies) give the song a tone very unlike the subsequent Elvis Costello cover. Once again Lowe's songs dominate the set list, but seem to cut a less-inspired middle-ground between the rootsy invention of "Nervous" and the quirky pop breakthrough of 1978's "Jesus of Cool." Most satisfying is the band's funky cover of the Hi Records (by way of Otis Clay and O.V. Wright) classic "Trying to Live My Life Without You." Overall, the album's production feels crowded, with instruments and voices fighting for space. The balance that was found on "Nervous" seems to have been lost; apparently producer Dave Edmunds still hadn't completely figured out Spector's wall of sound.

Nervous: 5-stars. New Favorites: 3-1/2 stars.

4 out of 5 stars Beesley Shorts.......2002-12-03

"Nervous on the Road" is the only essential album by this group. Their first album sounded like Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young or someone--an unpleasant thing indeed. "Despite It All" has some decent country-rockin' tunes; "Silver Pistol" is all right but just about ruined by too much organ. "New Favourites" is their attempt at soul-music-lite, I suppose, and they don't do a half-bad job on the Hi Records classic "Trying to Live My Life Without You." "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love and Understanding" is a great song but Elvis Costello did it far better. But it is basically an English version--as is pub-rock in general--of music done much better by Americans, which I believe the perpetrators themselves would readily admit. However, "Nervous" does add a certain pawky humor to the basic r&b/soul/country template; no American artist would have started out a song, as does Nick Lowe, by asserting that he is "scumbag bound." And for once, the keyboardist doesn't overpower the music, leaving room for Mr. Schwarz to indulge himself with his very best Robbie Robertson imitations. They confuse the lyrics on Chris Kenner's "I Like It Like That" and bring in some pretty amusing astrological stuff on "Don't Lose Your Grip on Love." In general, "Nervous" works where most Brinsley Schwarz and pub-rock doesn't because it contains an undercurrent of something real, something very post-'60s, rueful but funny, and the unpretentiousness of its models suggests a way out of hippiedom, which of course is satirized in "Peace Love and Understanding." But as an American, I hardly see how most "pub-rock" is an improvement on the real thing; makes you ponder how the rock and roll era obscured American music like Otis Clay while upholding dreck like Jethro Tull or Yes as worthwhile stuff, and why it took English musicians to hip us to what we were doing in our own country.

4 out of 5 stars The best of pub rock and early Nick Lowe.......1999-07-20

This CD combines two of the best Brinsley Schwarz albums and ("New Favourites") the best produced. The Brinsleys always were at their rocking sexiest live ("Down in the Dive") and the numbers they played best are here ("Feel a Little Funky", "Surrender to the Rhythm"). Watch out for Nick Lowe's "What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding", often wrongly attributed to Elvis Costello. I can hear the Brinsleys now rehearsing it in the basement of the Hope & Anchor, Islington. It's summer outside, I've got my first pint and about two hours to enjoy before the gig begins...

4 out of 5 stars quality songwriting, but missing something.......2007-06-21

Pat Benatar continued her successful career into the 80's, but as a result, the decline was beginning to creep in.

Side one of Get Nervous is pretty good, though. In fact, it gives me the same level of enjoyment that her previous albums did. You have the radio hit "Shadows of the Night", the exciting upbeat "Anxiety (Get Nervous") and the energetic and underrated classic "The Victim".

Side two, however, is not as good. It's like the energy from Benatar's voice and the rest of the band members weren't giving it their all- some pretty weak moments can be found. "I'll Do It" doesn't belong on the album. It's a filler song for sure. "I Want Out" and "Silent Partner" are pretty good tunes, though. Mostly because of the vocal melodies which are above average, but not at the level of classic.

I guess overall I get the feeling Pat Benatar was just going through the motions of being a successful pop star, and thought she could get away with releasing an album with weaker material. Either that, or the changing times of the music scene was starting to take its toll on her career. We also can't rule out the terrible production from the 80's decade overall. Something wasn't right.

5 out of 5 stars Get Ready ,Get Set, Get Nervous.......2007-04-11

Though this site declares this is a remastered version, the powers that be have yet to release such a thing and that's a crying shame as Get Nervous is Definitely my third favorite Benatar album of all her releases (right after the first two), for her fourth album Pat had a few new things up her leotard. Actually she dumped the leotard look all together by this time and opted for the new wave short skirts and mini dresses, she had also married her guitarist Neil Giraldo since her last album and one of her guitarists Scott Sheets left being replaced by Charlie Giardino, a keyboardist, and thus with a new found fervor, Pat released Get Nervous. From the minute you look at the awesome cover artwork you know you're in for a trip. Beginning with the lead off single "Shadows Of The Night" Pat was onto a new power pop kick, luckily while mixing up the song co-producer Neil felt the song needed something at the intro and accidentally had the vocal track playing by itself, and voila he had his beginning. Not until Whitney's "I Will Always Love You" cover did another song start acapella and actually still grab you so fiercely. From the rocking pop to a keyboard infused pseudo Motown revival in "Looking For A Stranger" Pat's voice sounds better and better with each track, the third track "Anxiety (Get Nervous)" is fuelled by a rounding guitar lick that was performed straight on for all 3 and a half minutes in the days before looping. The video is hilarious, the song is infectious and hilarious and actually quite rocking. Pat turns it down a notch (at least in the beginning) for the ballad "Fight It Out" before belting every single note she has in her little frame and then turning it up to Led Zeppelin-ish rock with one of my favs "The Victim" with Pat belting and belittling "your choice of love was never very bright/ you've got a burning desire to be the victim/ you're bleeding from the soul/ you're hurting from the heart" and then one of my all time Benatar singles "Little Too Late" with its drum rolls and keyboard infusions, it's classic 80's pop and full of that Benatar attitude I love. From here the songs go into even more of a new wavey vein with "I'll Do It" and "Tell It To Her" mixing the keyboard pop with Neil's rock guitar and Pat's anger at full throttle. Interesting to me is that her only co-write on this album is "Tell It To Her" and it's about the only time you'll find one of Pat's angst ridden songs actually talking about her lover having a girlfriend on the side. For the most part she's just usually pissed cause he doesn't treat her right or did her wrong but here she's dumping the bastage cuz he's got a chick on the side, then what was my fav Benatar song for years "I Want Out" with awesome guitar, awesome breaks and beats and Benatar full on voice. The whole thing ends with a strange little ditty "Silent Partner" that begins with a barrelling keyboard whirl before turning into a super fast paced rocker. An excellant way to end one of her most excellant albums. By the way, when i was but a wee boy, the Christmas of 1982 found under my tree was one of those black tape recorders and a brand new cassette to play in it - that's right Get Nervous. I wore that sucker out. Now I own the cassette, a few copies of the vinyl (looking for the mint edition) and on CD. Now if only Chrysalis/Capitol would remaster the sucker it'd be like Christmas 1982 all over again.

1 out of 5 stars Remastered? Not from what I received.......2006-05-05

I ordered what I "thought" was Get Nervous Remastered and received the original cd. I don't believe this cd has been issued yet in remastered format as with "In the Heat of the Night", "Crimes of Passion" and "Precious Time". The format needs to be changed to "Original Recording Mastered".

5 out of 5 stars original recording remastered ?...but with release date 10/25/90 ?.......2006-04-28

Why does this listing of Get Nervous say original recording remastered when the release date still says October 25, 1990 ? There must be a misprint here - either the title should not say remastered or the album specs should be updated for the correct release date, etc.. I just purchased In the Heat of the Night, Crimes of Passion and Precious Time (finally as individually remastered albums) and the release date was April of 2006 for each of them; therefore, I would believe that if Get Nervous is TRULY REMASTERED then the release date should say April of 2006. Does anyone know anything about this ?

5 out of 5 stars Possibly Pat's best.......2005-07-22

I have always loved Pat Benatar and have been a fan for over twenty years. If anyone was to ask me what album they should get if they never heard her music, it would be this one.

Shadows of the Night starts the album off and it was a runaway hit for her. I played this song on my way to my girlfriend's house to pick her up for the prom. I think every Pat fan thinks of a special someone when they hear this.

The album is great in that you can listen to every song without hitting that pesky FF>> button. My favoite part of the album is the second side, but now being on CD, I'm talking about tracks 7,8, and 9. I always liked how these three songs fit together as a trilogy of sorts. My favorite of the three (and the album) is 'Tell it to her'. The other two are 'I want out' and 'I'll do it'. These three tunes are about breakup and heartache, but without any sappiness. Pat proved to us all you can have your heart broken and still stand on your own two feet with defiance. I'll always thank her for that.

Like I said if you're new to Pat, this is the album to get. I'd also recommend 'Crimes of Passion' and 'Precious Time'.

3 out of 5 stars Good but flawed.......2003-11-02

I was at Borders book store this afternoon. I came across "Un Amore: One Love" in the cd racks and decided to listen to this cd at one of the store's listening stations. After listening to the first four tracks I thought the cd was interesting enough to buy it. Being a big fan of trance music, I was hooked on the melodies and the fact that a lot of the songs were sung in Italian. Granted the trance beats just reeked of cheese ala DJ Sammy and Darude but I can look past that. However I cannot look past the group's horrific cover of that insipid Lonestar cover "Amazed". I didn't like the original version, I certainly didn't enjoy the group's attempt at reggae with this song. The other song I wasn't wild about was "Marina". The only part of the song I did like was the lyrics sung in Italian, the rest was a mess. The biggest flaw with this album is that the group doesn't know if it wants to be known for dance songs or ballads. I thought the overall sound on the album was uneven. The ballads were borderline easy-listening music. The last the group could have done to the ballads was to keep them in the trance vein but just slow down the bpm's (beats per minute). On the more positive note, I did enjoy the acoustic mix of "L'Italiano" and the tender ballad "Faithfully" in particular. I loved the female vocals from Reina (who sang one of my favorite euro-pop songs "Find Yourself Another Woman" a few years ago) on "Viva Per Lei". 85% of "Un Amore: One Love" is quite good, it is just the 15% that I find highly questionable. I think the The Sicilians could have made a better album.

5 out of 5 stars PURE INNOVATION AT IT'S BEST.......2003-07-11

With all of the positive response that I've witnessed, I simply cannot even imagine why `Un Amore' hasn't exploded onto the music scene in quite the way that it deserves. This categorically has to be THE BIGGEST "sleeper" hit CD of all time in my book. `Un Amore' is loaded with the highest caliber of talent quality, music quality, production quality & song material. Even the impressive level of marketing genius behind this project is second to none. Just think about the strategy: take a consummate artist like Angelo Venuto & team him up with some of the best & brightest rising stars of today's music scene. For example, pairing him with Dance music princess Reina on "Vivo Per Lei" is utterly brilliant! Their voices sound like velvet together. Then there is his duet with up-and-coming Hip-Hop sensation Lumidee on "Amazed" which is another creative move that I think will pay off big time. And Angelo with Shawnee Ranx on "Marina" is fabulous! They "play" off of each other's vibe so well. Angelo even raps (quite impressively, too, may I add!!) on "Marina" in both Italian & Spanish. How's that for talent?

In my opinion, Angelo Venuto is one of the hottest Dance music sensations to hit the scene in quite some time. He can induce an audience into near hysteria as only very few artists are capable of doing. He has pure passion, drive & star quality. It's quite apparent that he strives for perfection in every way. His vocals are absolutely mesmerizing and multi-dimensional & his musical talents as a guitar player are simply unparalleled. 'Un Amore' is the perfect way for this artist to pay homage to great Italian music while demonstrating his love, passion & appreciation for music. I know that I anxiously awaited the release of this CD & I just can't even fathom how this CD hasn't yet become the biggest hit of the summer. So, it's time to do a massive nationwide rollout of `Un Amore'. I'm sure that there are thousands of music lovers across the country who would appreciate this music as much as the New York Tri-State area does. This project has the right formula for success as far as content, talent, quality & universal appeal. So, if the record stores & radio stations won't take the initiative then, it's up to the fans to do it. It's time to share & spread our Italian pride across the nation. So, buy a copy of `Un Amore' & send it to someone you love today.

After Black Moon dropped "Enta Da Stage" in 1993, people knew about Boot Camp was about. Then 2 years later in 1995, Smif N Wessun came up with a CLASSIC debut album! This is the second album to come out of the Boot Camp Clik. If you thought Black Moons "Enta Da Stage" was classic, then you HAVE to pick this up now!!

The lyrics on this album are on point all the way through. Words about life on the streets, fakes, and just all that hood and real hip-hop! Lyric wise, youll feel the same type of lyrics like those from Black Moons debut album. They wont dissapoint!

The production on this album deserves these words... Insanely dope! If you heard Black Moons first album, you knew that "Da Beatminerz" were on about every track, youll find the same thing here! Da Beatminerz are back for more DOPE beatmaking! I don't think there is one weak beat on this album, you got those heavy bass, and just straight bangers!

To sum it up, just like me tell you this. If you like Boot Camp, Black Moon, Heltah Skeltah or any of it, or good hip-hop, do not... I repeat.. do not pass up picking up this album! Its DOPE!!!!

I got kicked out of class for bumping this back in the day. Its true it only got 3 mics in the Source. Thats when I knew the Source was bogus. 12 years later Tek n Steele still keep their Timz n Hood Check. Don't get it twisted, this album is a classic in every definition of the word. If you slept on it then, don't sleep now. Make sure you cop Dah Shinin - you'll be glad you did.

Now I've heard of Smif-N-Wessun for sometime now. I actually got into them when they were the Cocoa Bovas and were signed to Rawkus Records back in the 90's and been a fan ever since. Then when I heard Black Moon's "Enta Da Stage" these guys were featured on songs on that album ("Black Smif-N-Wessun" & "U Da Man"). So I had to check this album out to hear what it was like.

This album is full of New York grimy cuts that sound fresh, even almost 12 years (damn, it's been that long???) from when it debuted. With rhymes like "...watch your lips and my boots make a french kiss...", that showed that this duo played no games at all. Most of their rhymes were about guns and smoking weed. Yeah, the subject matter was limited, but it was still great to listen to.There are a lot of gimey cuts on here that are rememerable like "Wrekonize" and "Wrektime". The song "Hellucination" is a story telling song while Tek & Stelle trade verses throughout about everyday life.

There are a few tracks to me that stood out right away when I first heard this album, and that was the posse Boot Camp Clik song "Cession At Da Doghillee" (Stelle kills that last verse), and the last track "Partners-N-Crime". Production wise is by the Beatminers, another reason why fans love the Boot Camp Clik so much.

Many say this album is better than Black Moon's "Enta Da Stage", and I have to agree (only by a small margin). Tek and Stelle do stand strong on their debut and come off to rhyme along any big time rapper back in '95. I seriously believe that this album was so underrated. If you get a chance cop this.

P.S.- Thoughout my time here on Amazon, I've seen atleast two Listamania lists here that said that this album received 3 mics in The Source Magazine. If that rumor is true, I'm pretty sure that reviewer was fired or received some harsh disiplinary action. That rating itself seriously borders on criminal.

And catch black eyes. This is when you had to have skills just to be recognized by the hip hop community. A damn shame those days is dead. This album is another east coast classic. This in my opinion outshines Black moon first album. If you into old skool east coast hip hop, cop this right away.

4 out of 5 stars 50s novelty hit "Transfusion" is still hilarious!.......2007-06-11

My husband has wanted a copy of this song on CD for years, I purchased it as part of his birthday! He has played it continuously since receiving it! It is a hilarious song, written by the crazy Nervous Norvus! Get it if you remember the song....it's worth the price!

5 out of 5 stars Red Blanchard & Nervous Norvus fans rejoice!.......2005-10-06

Great CD for you dinosaurs who remember listening to the Red Blanchard show in the Bay Area in the early to mid 50s and digging his Nervous Norvus platter-spinning. Some rare demos included here and some downright strange music. Mmmm-bully-bully-bully-bully...

3 out of 5 stars Fun vintage novelty rock n roll (3.5 stars).......2005-08-14

Of course, those who actually know the name Nervous Norvus are either devoted listeners of Dr. Demento or one hit wonder fans {both camps are familiar with the classic "Transfusion"). If you enjoy that single, you'll probably enjoy this collection, which is really all the Nervous Norvus you'll need. Its far from great art, but it was never meant to be. Looking back it is dated and surreal, but still fun for fans of this type of music. Jimmy Drake (the alter ego of Nervous Norvus) was reasonably innovative in his use of sound effect for novelty records. Its interesting how he used sound effects from a library or archive and inserted them into his songs, making them an accompaniment for his one man band. The songs themselves are amusing if not laugh out loud funny, and are strange enough to appeal to fans of outsider music. The themes include prehistoric times, flying saucers and sci-fi, and even a song about a clockmaker slowly going insane. A fun if unessential addition to the library of those who enjoy either novelty of strange music.
