I can say I just may be one of the biggest Jay-Z fans out there and I gotta say that Chapter One is on of the best Jay-Z compilations out. No other compilation or greatest hit album that came out from his work has ever came close to being as good as this one.

TThis was alright, but they picked most of the wrong tracks, and teh remixes are bad.

First of all I would like to say that it is impossible to have one CD with Jay-Z's best tracks! There is just too many for one CD. Here are my personal favorite tracks:

The wrong tracks were chosen for this.......2004-04-23

This album came out after Jay-Z's widely successful Hard Knock Life LP. Jay is my favorite mc but to be honest with you I have to ask who chose the tracks that were put on this disc? Granted, there are some of Jay's best songs (at this point in his career) on there. Songs like "Dead Presidents II", "Imaginary Player" and "Feelin' It" were great selections. Other songs just make this a terrible compilation. Songs like the three remixes at the end of the album and "Sunshine" should not be on here. I can't believe they even put the HORRIBLE "I Know What Girls Like" on here. That song is almost unbearable to listen to. To make things even worse half of the songs here are the radio versions. Nobody wants to hear radio edits on a Greatest Hits album. For Jay's older and true fans he should have added songs like "D'Evils", "Where I'm From" and "Brooklyn's Finest". I've been listening to Jay since his first 12" single dropped in '95 but this is one of his cds that I will never buy. Do yourself a favor and just get Reasonable Doubt and Vol. 1 In My Lifetime instead of this. If you want a good Greatest Hits compilation then you would be better off making it yourself. Hopefully Jay's next Greatest Hits compilation will focus more on what are his best songs and not just the most appealing ones.

Who ever decided to put certain tracks on this album did a good job, considering almost every Jigga classic is on this one CD. I just don't understand how they could leave out Jay-Z's collabo with his mentor Biggie on "Brooklyn's Finest". That is probably the best Jay-Z songs ever.

Also, another downside to the album is that almost half the songs are the radio-edit version. I'm sorry but edited tracks do not belong on a greatest hits compilation.

If you may have noticed, a lot of the songs are from Vol. 2...Hard Knock Life. That isn't necessarily a bad thing though. That is probably my 2nd favorite Jay-Z LP (behind Reasonable Doubt)

If you ask me, you're better off leaving this one on the shelves, cuz it realy isn't worth the buy.
