These days, R&B girls are a dime a dozen, but Ashanti Douglas is a step ahead of the pack. Youthful appeal and a pleasantly dreamy voice complement the 21-year-old singer/songwriter's ability to pen her own radio-friendly verses. However, Ashanti's young'un status shows itself through her treatment of the usual R&B-girl subject matter: love standing strong, love gone bad, and the search for love of self. Songs like "Foolish," "Happy," and "Baby" are as simple and agreeable as their one-word titles suggest, while "Call," "Movies," and "Over" take a slightly more earthy approach.

Ashanti is definitely R&B for the under-30 set, and as such it's bouncy and playful. This debut, as is to be expected of a Murder Inc. release, features a strong hip-hop element, including two duets with Irv Gotti's golden child, Ja Rule, and the sampling of a controversial Notorious B.I.G. composition in "Unfoolish." The kids should love it. --Rebecca Levine

3 out of 5 stars Average...But it has its moments!.......2007-03-05

Ashanti is a love her or hate her artist. She's not necessarily a respected artist. And what hurt her was her overexposure without the huge talent to back it up. I mean she was EVERYWHERE in the music scene during 2002...."What's Luv"..."Mesmerize"...and then her solo single "Foolish". I think she was on three songs in the top ten at the same time. She hit 3 platinum for her self-named album. Won a Grammy! Then...poof her 2003 release exposed her weaknesses like you wouldn't believe (despite strong singles like "Rain on Me"). She couldn't keep up with her contemporary, the singing force that is known as Beyonce. And where is she now? I heard she's working on a new album but I have no interest in getting it. But I will review her debut which for its weaknesses has its moments.

First her hit single that really boosted her album sales (if her other appearances didn't), "Foolish". Even though the sample is so overplayed, the lyrics really standout. The strength of the song was the unfolding self-criticism and accusations with the conclusion really leaving a listener wondering, "What is this girl's problem?" Well we know her problem is not leaving someone she should leave alone. The song is actually a cautionary tale for all those sprung ladies (or men as well) whose cause of stress and suffering is probably sleeping or sitting next to them. It's a deep song. Too bad no other song on the album has as much deep reflective content like it. "Happy" suffers with its unoriginal sampling (actually a lot of the songs do), but it's a BBQ party jam that reminds me of songs from the 90s like "Every Little Thing I Do" by Soul For Real. "Baby" was kind of annoying "Baby...Baby...Baby...Baby...Baby" repeat with a sample we've heard done better before. I actually liked "Movies", it had weird production and it's funny the way Ashanti sings "I wanna be like DOSE gurls in da Moovies" but the whole song just works. She tries to sound seductive (with mixed results) but again the song works. "Leavin' (Always on Time pt. II)" actually is better to me than part one. One reason is that Ja Rule kept his contribution to a minimum. On his "singing" collaborations the songs work better when the ladies are put on the front. Plus the production has a summery vibe. "Voodoo" gets points for attempting something that this album really could have benefited from, originality. And "Dreams", which I think is actually a nice song, had a lot of potential that wasn't used well. I think her producers tried too hard to make "Dreams" become a "Greatest Love of All" for Ashanti. The overproduction didn't help. And the kids in the background were a little much. This song really should have been all acoustic. I mean I applaud the effort, but when you try to make "theme" songs, simplicity and subtle textures is always best. Ashanti, like her songs have potential, but she needs to reassess her approach to her material. Her approach works for singers just turning 18, but she is in her late twenties (I believe) and she needs to step up to the artistry demanded from career singers if she doesn't want to be a short note in the music industry.

1 out of 5 stars Established herself here as one of the leading poster children for artistic irrelevance.......2007-01-17

One of the least talented singers ever to be majorly successful, I still shake my head in disbelief when I think of how Ashanti became a household name with this album. Two fundamental errors that should have killed both the album and her career are as follows: She sounds too much like many singers that have come both before and after her, and the majority of her recorded output is built upon samples (with little or no effort made to keep this from being overly apparent). Reportedly, Ashanti is a very skilled cook; if she wants well-deserved fame perhaps a cooking show would be more her type of thing.

5 out of 5 stars An R&B Masterpiece.......2006-08-21

I had to give this 2002 smash hit a review.Minus a few of the skits this was a flawless album.Ashanti's song ''Foolish'' is one of the best songs that I've ever heard. Its 1 of those songs that everyone can relate to.At one point I was on the bandwagon with those of you who thought Ashanti couldn't sing live.I recently watched a DVD with her singing at a talent show and was blown away.I didn't know she could belt out songs the way she did in this DVD.I guess she's going to show off her voice on one of her future albums. This is Ashanti's best album hands down.I can listen to this entire album without skipping a track.Hopefully Ashanti gets back to making the music we''ll can relate to.If you love real R&B music then this is the album for you.

1 out of 5 stars movies.......2006-08-05

I only like the song movies and come to think of it, she's doing movies now and is so much likeable in that field instead of music. She should stick to making movies and maybe writing songs but as far as singing and performing, hell to the no!

5 out of 5 stars Great album!.......2006-08-05

Come on ya'll some of ya'll are being a little harsh on this album. I do admit everything after this CD sucks, point blank! But this is her best CD, I'm sorry. I was going through something when this CD came out and then I was hit with something again, till I snapped out my funk! Anyway, call it maturity or what but I really identified with this album because Ashanti is only a year older than me. I think she wrote this album out of experiences she had or was having.

I love the song " The Call," and "Movies," so, to me this album is defintnely where it is at.....

Unfortunately, old girl has not been able to recapture the success of this album. Which is to bad, but what you can do, it's up to Ashanti to get back to the real not the fans.

Peace!

This sophomore effort by 2002 hip-pop debutante Ashanti is aimed squarely at the mainstream portion of her audience. Where she made her name with radio-ready duets featuring Ja Rule and Fat Joe, Chapter II goes light on the rap, opting for only a small handful of cameos by co-producer Chink Santana. The mostly mid-tempo tracks are pleasant, but much of the album feels like an unfinished structure that'll only be fully built when the songs are remixed for the airwaves. Still, with the star's assured (and nicely undersold) vocals front and center, it amounts to a breath of fresh air from production company Murder Inc. Note: "Breakup 2 Makeup" once more updates the Chaka Khan/Mary J. Blige classic "Sweet Thing." --Rickey Wright

2 out of 5 stars Ashanti wut were u thinkin?!.......2007-07-12

I personally loved most of the songs on Ashanti's debut album but this one took terrible to a whole new level and gave the word disappointing a whole new definition for me. Ashanti has a decent voice and I know she's capable of making better music than this! The only song on here that I can tolerate is Rock Wit U. I bought this album figuring that there are enough tracks on it that I would like at least three or four more in addition to the first single but I was wrong. I won't sell my copy or use it as a coaster because although it won't see the light of day anytime soon I still might one day decide to give it a second listen.

4 out of 5 stars ..........2007-03-02

First thing... no, I did not make a typo. I like Ashanti and I like her music. I have gotten ridiculed for it quite a bit. But come on. She may not be a terrific singer, but by no means is she offensive or terrible. And let me also say this. There is a time an place for every type of music. Sometimes I want me some Erykah Badu or Jill Scott. Other times, I'm just not in the mood and go for the more mainstream stuff like Ashanti.

With that said, I absolutely loved this album. I do not know what is up with the terrible reviews, but I love every song on this album. (Excluding the unnecessary intros, outros and interludes. That's why I downgraded the rating to four stars. She really needs to stop with the interludes.) Without all that stuff, there are thirteen catchy, quality tracks. She has matured and it shows. Her vocals on here are an improvement, too. I highly recommend it if you're a fan or if you're considering buying it.

4 out of 5 stars R&B and Hip Hop .......2006-09-29

I love me some Ashanti but this is not her best work ,with that said I think this cd is still a good work,.The skits are very annoying,I wish i could take 'em off instead of skippin 'em .She can sing, and can only appreciate her for she does. Most of the reviews here are based on kids dissin her as a person(the fact she cant dance does not imply she cant sing and defintley off topic in a CD review),comparing her to other artists,This album is not Great but It does not deserve one star reviews.Good job,4 stars.

4 out of 5 stars Second Really Was Her Best! 3.5 Stars!.......2006-08-11

I suggest that everyone who labelled Ashanti's sophomore album "Chapter II" as her worst album to date (excluding "Ashanti's Christmas" & "Collectables By Ashanti") should be shot in the head! While that may sound harsh (if not stupid), it's not as harsh as downing Ashanti's best album to date (if not by much). Whereas her self-titled debut & most of her third official album outing "Concrete Rose" tripped over generally emotional shallowness & unimpressive song writing, "Chapter II" remains decently consistent throughout its 20 tracks.

Ashanti's joyous crooning of sweet, loving lyrics over a smooth, laid-back beat makes lead single, "Rock With U", a fantastic balladic summer jam, and an obvious album highlight. Ashanti continues to croon with equal amounts of happiness on "I Found Lovin'", another balladic summer jam about finding love over some sweet electronic keyboards & synthesizers. While "I Found Lovin'" may be more bouncy and club-ready than "Rock Wit U", it remains to be equally infectious.

There is an expectedly huge amount of ballads on this album, but none stand out more than second single "Rain On Me", where Ashanti soulfully (and dramatically) sings about wanting someone (more specifically, God) to take away her endless heartache over some incredible production. Thankfully, Ashanti consistently displays emotional vocals and excellent lyricism over nice production on "Living My Life" (a piano/violin ballad where Ashanti reminisces on the hard times in her past, and how she's happy that she's moved on to better things), "Carry On" & "U Say I Say" (2 piano-heavy ballads about giving up a bad relationship). The hypnotically lusty ballads "I Don't Mind" & "Ohhh Ahhh" should also keep listeners interested.

Unfortunately, "Chapter II" has virtually as many hits as it does misses. Firstly, there are WAY too many skits & interludes, which are further worsened when Irv Gotti saturates potentially good songs ("Feel So Good", etc.) with his annoying laughter & incessant bickering. Secondly, the production lacks consistency & originality in some parts. "Then Ya Gone" has incredible, contemplative lyrics which aim to inspire & teach listeners about making the most of your life, but is brought down by boring production, Ashanti's dreary vocals & Chink Santana's unnecessary rap. As for tracks like "Breakup 2 Makeup", "Sweet Baby" & "The Story Of 2", there's nothing remotely original about any of those tracks to keep a listener hooked for longer than 30 seconds.

Altogether though, there are enough bright spots (and thankfully, not enough low points) on the album to make this album her best to date (like I said, if not by much). 3.5 STARS!

4 out of 5 stars Never 2 Late 2 Fall In Luv Again (Ashanti's Music)........2006-06-12

I thought this cd was really bad like everybody else, and it had been in my collection for years. I was feeling the need for new music, so that's when I got out the cds I only listened to a couple times. There are a couple really good songs on this cd. The problem is the way the cd was arranged. Ashanti needs to get rid of the intros and skits. It distracts the listener, and it makes you want to skip thru the whole cd. It would help if there were more songs for me to like, but I did discover a couple songs I forgot about, and a new one I now like. You can't give up on something completely. Ashanti has talent and I knew there had to be more to this cd than just getting rid of it. A cd has to breathe anyways. M' fave song by Ashanti is on here, it's called "I Found Lovin'". It has a 80's beat and it's a positive vibe. I like "Aww Baby" and "Rain On Me". A new song I found is "Then Your Gone". It has a good message and good lyrics. I hope Ashanti follows her heart and flips the script so her next album will be better than all of them.

I got this for my birthday and I thought I wasn't going to like it. It is way better than I thought it was going to be.

3 out of 5 stars A Step in the right direction.......2006-10-30

I looked at some of the other reviews and I agreed with some but some others just bashed. I believe with each record Ashanti's voice has got better, but the song writing has not improved much. Concrete Rose I feel is a step in the right direction, must of the tracks on the album could be labeled album fillers but the stand out tracks are "Only U", "Focus", "Take me tonight", and "So Hot". These tracks all show what Ashanti could be capable of if she just breaks out of the just put something out mode. Overall I give the CD 3 stars, it's not the best but it does have some good sounding tracks. Besides she's already done the crappy album "Chapter II" you can only go up from there.

4 out of 5 stars I like it .......2006-09-26

I think Ashanti has alot of potential as an artist ,she s a good songwriter ,good singer with a powerful yet smooth voice .The problem is mainly represented by the beat of her songs and somewhat annoying hooks .This cd is way better than Chapter II.I enjoy listening to it,mainly becuz I love Ashanti s unique voice and lyrics. This is her best work. I cant complain ,I like it !

1 out of 5 stars ashanti sucks sucks .......2006-08-16

i think this girl thinks she,s a singer i aragge with the review who said if it wasn,t for madonna , aaliyah , gloria estefan she would haven,t a career why she did get a record deal Madonna- wasn,t the best vocalist in the world she had something grew , with her voice

singer 2 aaliyah - nobody give her the respect that she wanted . but she was willing try on every song and guess what ashanti you sucks.

singer 3 gloria - she work hard than madonna and aaliyah put togather even she better than you buy mary, or janet jackson. or mrs keys .

4 out of 5 stars I normally don't like this kind of music, but I really liked this..........2006-06-04

Before a friend of mine became an Ashanti's fan, I had never heard about her, so "whatever, this may be nice". I got the CD and I really liked her music, her style and that incredible voice she has...I don't know her other CD's, but I liked this one a lot: I think almost all the songs are very good, but I just didn't like the skits, I've never liked skits, but I do have some favorite songs: "Only You", "Don't Let Them" and "Touch My Body". The other songs aren't bad at all, but these are my favorites. I repeat, before this artist I used to hear Avril Lavigne and U2 so, so much, and I had never gotten into R&B, but now I like it a lot, so I highly recommend it. You won't get dissapointed at all.

5 out of 5 stars More than Just a Hook Singer.......2005-12-18

Ashanti is no stranger to hit songs. The Collectables by Ashanti showcases her talent and shows that she's more than a "hook" singer. Not that I don't like the original versions, but I'm really feeling the remixes. The People's Champ, Paul Wall, and Method Man rap over the first track, "Still On it." JaRule is on two tracks: "Only You Remix" and "Rain On Me Remix." Former 106 & Park host Free drops by on the "Focus Remix." Some of the other tracks that I like but hadn't heard before are "I Love You" and the smooth groove "I Found It In You" which samples from Zapp's Computer Love.

None of the remixes lose the luster of the original songs, but the guest appearances on the Collectables add that extra ingredient to make it a CD that fans of Ashanti would want to have for their personal music library.--Shelia M Goss, BellaOnline Women in Music

    5 out of 5 stars Ashanti - I love it! .......2005-09-15

    ASHANTI
Ashanti's first album is mainly R&B. But there are a few upbeat songs that make it sort of pop as well. The songs are very easy to relate to. The album is all about love, breaking up, getting over the one you loved, Getting hurt, being scared and figuring out your feelings. I love this CD. The songs tell a story and they have a lot of meaning behind them. The CD is directed to females and lets us girls express what we are feeling too. My favorite tracks on the album are "Foolish" and "Baby." I think all of the songs are real. You can find a way top relate to them. But these two songs are the ones I like the most. ASHANTI the first album is a lot better then her second album CONCRETE ROSE. CONCRETE ROSE was less captivating. There were only a few songs that you can somewhat relate to. Where as every song on ASHANTI is good. Overall I would recomend this album. It has a good vibe and is real.

When I first heard about Ashanti, I thought she was just another soul sista jumping on the Rnb Bandwagon. Boy was I wrong!! This Cd is amazing. The songwriting is not the best, but good for am 23-year old!! I am sure Ashanti's gonna be around a lot longer than Missy Elliot and Lil Kim. She has a good voice, and she writes her own songs.

5 out of 5 stars The Album That Began The Urban Music Scene..........2003-03-15

In late 2001 to early 2002, Ashanti (as with Alicia Keys, Ja Rule, and sadly the death of Aaliyah) has definitely changed the direction of the music scene from the Teen Pop Phenonema (early 1997 - early 2002) to the Urban Scene of Hip-Hop & R&B. Though unlike Alicia Keys, Ashanti's R&B competitor, Ashanti has changed the direction of Top 40 music of soulful R&B (with Alicia Keys in late 2001) to an urban blend of hip-hop and R&B (with hits of late 2001-early 2002 of Always On Time [with Ja Rule], Foolish, and What's Luv? [with Fat Joe]). Ashanti & Aaliyah seemed to have dominate the Top 40 music scene of 2002 with their hits....though because of Aaliyah's tragic death it leaves Ashanti left over to become, as Ja Rule would say, "the princess of hip-hop and r&b".

The lure of obtaining Ashanti's success and the change of the music scene to urban is clearly seen with "TOP 40" one-hit wonders like Tweet, Toya, Truth Hurts, and Angie Martinez and with transitions of reigning pop stars exploring R&B like N'Sync (Nelly Remix of "Girlfriend"....most definitely Justin Timberlake with "Justified"), Britney Spears (she remixed her last two singles "Overprotected" and "Boys" to a more "r&bish" beat), Christina Aguilera (well...Dirrty explains it all), and Jennifer Lopez (less Latin songs and more hip-hop songs in her "This Is Me...Then" album comapred to her previous albums).

    But anyways about the album...

Ashanti has definitely set a new level in R&B in the music scene. Her lyrics and vocals definitely bring a smooth R&B sound but still her beats create a taste of hip-hop. Ashanti's wonderful talent is definitely shown and presented nicely with this album. With Ashanti's continued success, as shown in "Mesmerize"...we could see Ashanti dominate this new Urban music period (which shows no signs of slowing down...), similar to how Britney dominated the Teen Pop phenomena...

5 out of 5 stars GOOD DEBUT FOR TALENTED ASHANTI.......2003-03-10

When I saw Ashanti perform Foolish on an episode of Live With Regis & Kelly I was pleasantly surprised at how good she sang. At that time I was looking for a replacement singer when I learned of Aaliyah's tragic passing and I was amazed at how much Ashanti can really sing. Two days after that episode I went to my Wal-Mart store and found it and told Mom that's what I wanted for my birthday gift. Now on to the album the first intro features clips of Ashanti singing backgrounds with rap artists and features a clip from Ashanti's first solo track When A Man Does Wrong that is featured in the soundtrack The Fast And The Furious. Foolish is a good song and is the first single from the album. Other tracks that make this cd worth buying are the sassy Baby and the ballad Movies. Buy this and see for yourself a true diva,
    Enjoy,
    Regis

4 out of 5 stars Sounds Good To Me.......2006-12-05

A few years ago, I was in the reggae section of a music store just browsing and some cat strikes up a conversation with me about reggae music. "Have you ever heard of Sizzla," he asks and I respond with a no. "Oh, you should give him a listen," he says to me. So, I pick up this CD and dude was right. This Sizzla CD is a real treat. I've listened to snippets of his other stuff and most times the gruffness of his voice turns me off, but not so with this CD. I can put this on and listen from start to finish, often times letting it run twice. Granted, I usually don't have the foggiest idea of what he's talking about, but sometimes I can catch a phrase or two and the music itself is pretty good. "This Day" is my favorite track. "Good Looking", "Wicked Naw Go Prosper", "Children Beware" are stand outs for me as well. I can't get down with most of his other stuff, but this one works for me.

    4 out of 5 stars Uh, I liked it.......2004-09-28

Man, people hate on this record. Doesn't it seem unfair to expect that an artist as prolific as Sizzla drop a masterpiece every single time. The poor guy, nothing he ever does will stop being compared to Black Woman and Child. Granted, that album is probably his magnum opus, but that was 1997. In all fairness, he's probably too prolific for his own good. He has released something like 28 records since 1997 which is almost absurd when you think about it. And while I agree that some of his albums are well, not so good, Taking Over for example, I think Bobo Ashanti is a great record. Everytime I think Sizzla has fallen off he comes back with something like this or The Real Thing, which I also think is a great record. "Whether or Not", "This Day", and "Wicked..." are excellent Sizzla tracks and I can listen to this CD the whole way through. I strongly recommend this album to any Sizzla or contemporary reggae fan. Well deserving of 4 stars in my opinion.

The other new tracks are "I Love You" (produced by Jimi Kendrix for Family Bizness Musik and Irv Gotti for Top Dawg); "Show You" (produced by Irv Gotti for Top Dawg Productions and Chink for Soldier Productions) and "Found It in You" (produced by Full Force for Forceful Enterprises, Inc. and Irv Gotti for Top Dawg).

1 out of 5 stars music industry scam.......2006-08-15

Why is it that we are force by the music industry to listen to artist who obviously have no vocal talent. Ashanti has said in several interviews that she was drop by other labels before being signed to Murder Inc? Obviously other records execs realize the mistake they would make by signing her. This collection is as bad as all of her other music? Collectables.Yeah collectable garbage. She is horrible!!!!!!!

    3 out of 5 stars Camilyan Report.......2006-03-23

Ashanti is back with her 6th album entitled Collectables By Ashanti. Although Ashanti has not been in the business as long as others, she has managed to produce an album on average every 8 months and that has provided her the ability to publish Collectables by Ashanti. Collectables is much like a Greatest Hits and mix tape. The album contains four newly recorded tracks and six remixes of previously recorded songs.

Her best track on this album has to be "Show You", classic Ashanti, offering her typical catchy chorus, and common lyrics. Collectables by Ashanti also serves as a who's who of hip-hoppers that support Ashanti. "Still Down" has a nice beat and hot cameo from Caddillac Tah, who sounds a lot like TI. Ashanti offers a remix of Focus featuring Free, whose lyrics are tight, but she sounds like a man. Other tracks include Charlie Baltimore, Ja Rule, Black Child and others.

Ashanti could never be compared to others in her genre for her ability to sing but can be for her songwriting skills. She puts emphasis on her inability to sing on "Break Up 2 Make Up" when she makes a wrong turn and strains out a flat note at the end. My heart went out to her because deep down each and every one of us desires to sing well. With that said, the album is a good album to cop if you're an Ashanti fan simply because of its uniqueness; but in all, the album should be slept on by others.

Collectables is a collection of rare Ashanti remixes. Ashanti's Collectables is an album that features 4 new songs and 6 remixes. Ashanti has only been around for about years, but she has shown the world what she is capable and her talent is incredibly amazing. Her voice can simply blow your mind away and the mixes are really good. I have to say that if she keeps doing her thing she will keep rising. She has the potential to be one of the biggest R&B stars. The album boasts appearances from Ja Rule, Paul Wall, Method Man, Black Child, Merci, Hussein Fatal, Charli Baltimore, Caddilac Tah, and Free formerly of the BET show 106 and Park. The "Rain on Me" Remix is one of the hottest Murder Inc remixes ever. It's one of the reasons you should pick up this CD if you are an Ashanti fan or an R&B fan. One of my favorites include "I found it in you," so mellow and the lyrics are awesome. Another really hot remix on the album is "Rock Wit U (Awww Baby). This is the remix that uses a strong sample from the Michael Jackson song "Rock With You." I have to say that this one is rocking! I love it! I think that this is the best one of all of them! I strongly recommend it!

5 out of 5 stars Ashanti Did It Again!.......2006-02-09

Why all the negative comments? I love Ashanti and she can't ever do wrong. Every time she comes out with an album, or featured on someone else's track she blows up. Lloyd's "Southside" flopped but Ashanti stood on top. She came up with Ja Rule, but now people are only talking about her. Just face it, you can't help but love her sexy, smooth, classy, hip style. I love this new album cause it's got some of her best hit singles but with a twist. I like what Irv Gotti did with "Focus" and "Only U". The "Rock Wit U (Aww Baby)" remix is tight too. I never get sick of the original and loved it since it came out on "Chapter II". The four new tracks are cool too. My favorite has gotta be "Still On It" cause it's got Paul Wall & Method Man on it. This song is soooo bad and the beat is bumpin'!! Any Ashanti fan is lost without the "Collectables." I love her!!!

3 out of 5 stars JUST BUY THE ALBUM.......2003-06-18

The tracklisting includes Happy and Call, + a remix of Happy. Happy and Call are both on the album ASHANTI. The remix of Happy is excellent, but it's not worth the money if only 1/3 of the songs are what you haven't heard. My reccomendation is to just buy the album (which is great!) and leave off the remix. If you're an Ashanti superfan, then I'd reccomend it to you, but its just an expensive 3-track single. You get the album for just a few bucks more. Please take my reccomendation. The video is also included, which raised my original rating from 2 stars to 3. The new album CHAPTER II is coming out on July 1, so watch out for that also! Hope my reccomendation was helpful to you.

5 out of 5 stars You'll Be Happy Once You Have This Cd Single.......2003-05-25

Ashanti is a great artist and "Happy" is one of her best tracks. This cd-single features the hit song as well as hot remix with some of her labelmates. If you liked the track or a fan of Ashanti this is a must. It also includes her hit video!

5 out of 5 stars Ashanti returns with another stunning song!.......2002-12-28

Ashanti is back! Following up the success of "Foolish" and the many collabarations she's done, she is back with her second solo single "Happy".

"Happy" is an uplifting song, very upbeat with cute lyrics. Ashanti is happy she found her man, and the song is very well made, with a cool intro done by main rap man Ja Rule.

The single itself is good value. It includes the album version of "Happy" (it's not that much different from the radio edit), the main reason I bought the single. Also you get an album track titled "Call". It's hip hop, very dancy and upbeat. You also get a remix of "Happy" and the video. The video is cute, with Ashanti and her girlfriends hanging out and then going to the hairdressers. Then Ashanti performs at a concert dedicated to her. Very cool video.

Overall, a cool single that shows off Ashanti's talent. She will go far!

4 out of 5 stars A positive influence in my life...........2002-11-20

Ashanti may not be Aaliyah, but I believe Ashanti has found her own new sound in the song 'Happy'. It's very upbeat and in typical R&b Style has a catchy hook that you cant get out of your head. Happy is the kind of song that gets you just there, Happy. Even if you don't like this immediately it will grow on you.
