With that said, here are two complaints:
1) The audio snippets from the movie are built into the tracks, so they're tougher to skip through.
2) The audio transfer is terrible. Somewhere in the process, either at the transfer or the mix, the audio thinned out. There's a really weak bass end, and everything sounds thin and tinny.
Not that it ruins the experience, but for someone who's actually into how music sounds, you might look elsewhere.

Beware dramatizations of unique literary works. Two years before critics pummeled the 1998 screen version of Hunter S. Thompson's tale of drug madness in Sin City, this audio rendition of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas brought the ugly story to life. Fans of the book might prefer this recording to the film since it preserves more of Thompson's high-octane narrative. With Jim Jarmusch and Harry Dean Stanton sharing the Thompson/Raoul Duke role, this CD brings to life some of the book's more shocking scenes, making all too real what was merely amusing on the page. It's smartly done, even bringing in guitarist (and Keith Richards sideman) Waddy Wachtel to recreate "Sympathy for the Devil." But it's no substitute for the book itself. --Steve ApplefordCustomer Reviews:
fantastic.......2007-01-12
Nice if Brief.......2006-04-20
The best features--the voices catch the perfect tone, especially the deadpan duo of Jim Jarmush (who does Thompson as the character in the book) and Harry Dean Stanton (as Thompson the narrator). Together, they're far closer to the voice of the author than Johnny Depp's overcooked impersonation in the film.
On the downside, its cut a bit short, its annoying how the sequence of some of the opening passages are changed and also annoying that they didn't shell out the bucks to get the license for the real versions of the songs from the opening sequence, instead relying on a cheap knock off of Sympathy For the Devil.
Still, on the whole, no major complaints and a solid overall job.
Dr. Thompson, Sliced and Diced........2004-07-03
Fast forward to the year 1996. FEAR & LOATHING is now 25 years old, with no movie version in sight. And this "creatively" ABRIDGED version is what we get in terms of a dramatization.
Dr.Thompson makes a mumbling cameo appearance in the first and last tracks. Aside from that, his presence is only really felt during the opening and end sequences...when the text is not savagely sliced up into virtual incoherence.
There seems to have been an attempt to make this recording sound like a soundtrack from a non-existant(as of 1996)film, and yet, staying very true to the book by only using ONLY Thompson's words.
Complete confusion results. Where a scene takes place, one can only guess, by hints from the stereo sound effects. Also, there's the disconcerting casting of two people playing Raoul Duke. But this makes sense in a cinematic context. Harry Dean Stanton is the narrator, while the unemotional Jarmusch reads Duke's dramatized lines. You can at least manage to separate time and place in your mind, using this audio trick.
Overall, this recording feels like a well-produced radio commercial. Some of the supporting roles are played out in a very over-the-top radio DJ sort of way. Music creeps in regularly to keep the listener's interest.
The CD runs 76 minutes. It gives you a taste of Hunter Thompson. But only a taste. The harsh editing makes a mish-mash of the book. You might be better off recording the audio from Terry Gilliam's film onto CD - at least that would include larger portions of the book.
A treat for Fear and Loathing fans.......2004-05-19

Album Description
Following the successful debut of Fear and Loathing in 2001, Resist returns with an eagerly awaited follow-up - Fear and Loathing 2. Although Luke Slater is generally regarded as a "techno DJ," on this album he explores a wide range of electronic music across various micro-genres, showcasing his diversity in music.Mixing several upfront tracks together with essential tracks from the past, CD1 weaves from ambient sound-scapes by Planetary Assault System and Bola, through to the minimal click-house of Isolee, groovy beats of Agoria, to Carl Craig's remix of Throbbing Grislte's "Hot on the Heals of Love." CD2 is a dancefloor-filler mix taking in all that's hot in the world of electro and techno, including tracks from The Advent, Nitzer Ebb, and Alter Ego's underground smash "Rocker."

Authoritative.......2002-07-22
STOMP-STOMP-STOMP-STOMP-STOMP-STOMP-STOMP-STOMP-STOMP...
-pretty fair summary.
oh, but it's awesome, really. No-one takes so little and makes so much of it as Luke Slater. The idea of a double CD mix of such minimal beats seems virtually laughable, but, hell, once you're locked in on the unrelenting, hypnotic pulse, the subtle ebb and flow of the different tracks becomes compelling listening.
CD is fast-paced, lean, mean, scorched earth mayhem. You couldn't really call it party music, unless all your friends happen to be Ketamine freaks, but it's certainly won't send you to sleep. It just goes and goes and goes...
After that CD 2 is something of a surprise. Ok, it doesn't exactly switch to Britney Spiers' territory, but the vibe is slightly jazzy and flavorsome and the pace is slower. With a STOMPing martial beat, tho'.
It's noticable that amongst the highlights, say, Sharpside "Teiscodrop" and Ben Sims "Loops", Luke's own tracks shine the brightest - whether under his own name: "All Exhale" or as Planetary Assault Systems. Putting seven of your own tracks on your DJ mix CD is usually an embarrassing ego trip, but here it simply reads as "oh, well, since I own the genre, I might as well put my stuff on here."
If you ever found yourself listening to a loud industrial banging noise and thinking 'hey, that sounds kinda cool', this is the CD you've been waiting for.
