Fellas, Chase the Cat is a Donald Goines story set to orange sunshine bounce beats--and if you're already a fan of Shorty the Pimp's freaky tales, then you already know he raps dirty and believes pimpin' won't die. This time out, he enlists the services of fellow Atlanta transplant Erick Sermon to add some commercial flavor to "Fire," pimp-music OGs UGK and 8Ball to up the mackin' quotient on "Ciagrette," and rapper China White to play the drama mama role on "Just One." F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C.!.......2006-02-02

I've got the original music (including v2 and v3), the books (the best is Heitland's The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Book; still in print);
the 22 VHS tapes issued in the early 1990's (a haphazard collection issued in no particular order of episodes that boasted famous guest stars). Can I please get the whole series on DVD? I have not seen Mother Fear toying with Illya (The Children's Day Affair) in over 40 years.

Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.

Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.

And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.

Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.

This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.

Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.

So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

Not bad, but not incredible either. A decent effort by Too $hort.......2007-05-02

'Chase the Cat' was released in 2001 and was mostly ignored when it was first released. In fact, this is one of Too $hort's least-selling albums, only moving around 45,000 copies. Despite this, it's not an awful album at all. There are quite a few great tracks here, such as 'I Luv', 'Fire', and 'Can I Hit It', but the vast majority of this album is either too derivative, boring, or repetitive. That's not to say it's bad, but that makes this a rather unnecessary album to own, unless you're a die-hard Too $hort fan. The beats on this are interesting, even though it's not the signature funk, and some of the guest artists are good while others are lackluster (ranging from MC Bred, E4, and Tha Eastsidaz to Trick Daddy).

Overall, you can skip 'Chase the Cat' and not miss anything special. If you do buy it, it is a decent listen, and it is much better than his latest disaster 'Blow the Whistle'.

Solid album - I give it 3.5 stars as well.......2006-05-31

I was one of those who actually LOVED Too Short's first 2 albums out of retirement (Can't Stay Away and You Nasty). However, I was quite dissapointed with this one. Don't get me wrong - it's not a bad album. It's just that it doesn't live up to the high standart set by Short on any of his albums ever since the mid-80's. First of all, the album is too long, and suffers from a few mediocre songs (a first time for Short!). I felt that production on a few songs was a bit uninspired and so were overall quite a few of the songs! What I always loved about previous Too $hort albums, was the versatility - although most of them dealt with pimpin' and sex, you knew you would always get a few songs that dealt with other issues as well. Unfortunately, that does not happen on this album, which is all about pimpin' and sex (other than the last song - no.17 Don't Give Up) - now not that I've got a problem with this topic, but a whole album about that, over some dissapointing beats (only some of them, not ALL) and you get an avarege album by a true legend. Too $hort spits mad game as usual, but he sounds uninspired on this album on quite a few songs. And actually the sonsg I loved the most were "Fire" (feat. Erick Sermon) and "U Stank", songs that sound nothing like typical Too $hort songs - that's what Short failed to do on most of the album - come out with some originality - something he always did on previous album. Overall, about half of the album is trully great, and the other half is... well, about ok and that's it. The song everyone's talking about is "I luv" - well, to me, it's one of the most overrated songs I've heard. The lyrics are weak, noone really impresses, the hook is plain stupid and it features one of the worst beats Daz Dillinger has ever done!... The stand out songs are "Talking Sh__" feat. And Banks and B-Legit, produced by Ant Banks), "Fire" (feat. Erick Sermon), "Don't Ever Give Up" (produced by Tone Capone) and "U Stank" (feat. George Clinton). The other ones are either good or ok (at best).
Another thing - I gotta give it up for Short Dog coming out with another awesome and creative cover (and back) for the album. Just by looking on the internet, you won't get it - you gotta get the CD itslef in order to understand. Great concept.

Overall, I think loyal Too $hort fans will enjoy most of the album, although won't be completely pleased with it. Non-Too Short fans - better get his earlier work. Too $hort knows much better than this.

3.5 stars for album "#13" - maybe my least favortite $hort album.......2005-11-16

Just 14 months since his last album, $hort Dog is back with album #13, which is perhaps my least favorite of the 9 of his albums I have. (I'd give 1 - 5 stars, 4 would get 4.5 stars, 2 get 3.5 stars and 2 get 4 stars). For starters, he has a lot of guests (as all his post "retirement" albums do) as well as poorer production (as with most of his post "retirement" albums after the Dangerous Crew split). Of the 16 songs on here, 1 I skip, half are good and half are ok, only 1 real good song. Guests are on 2 of the 16 so alot of the Oakland Pimp isn't to be heard on here. Production is ok and oddly from some better funkier west coast producers, SBX does 6 songs, Taj Tilgham, Ant Banks, and Too $hort all do 2 songs, Daz Dillinger, Meech Wells, Jazze Pha and Toen Capone all do 1 song. I'm a huge fan of $hort but this one I might sway skip over, but it still is a little better then ok, just sub-par for a $hort album.
