New York Hardcore.......2007-01-04

Cool CD a comp of Warzone stuff released on victory records. While some may just look at Warzone as typical 80s New York hardcore and in some ways they were, it was Raybeez that made them stand out from amongst the rest.

I first remember hearing Warzone many years ago with the song "As one" (unfortunatly not on this CD) on the New York Hardcore Comp and of all the bands it was Raybeez's distinct vocals that stood out. This CD however, is probably the best place to start for anyone wanting to hear Warzone one of the best 80s hardcore bands to come out of New York. Fast paced hardcore with a distinctive "Oi" influence.

Ray realy believed in what he was singing (if you cant find any old interviews with him on the net check out the book "all ages reflections on straight edge" for a good interview with him and how much the scene meant to him)

You might want to check out early Agnostic Front, Cause for Alarm, Majority of One (get the "setting the pace" CD which includes the UK released "Think about tomorrow" LP), Sticks and Stones, Libido Boyz (Hiding away LP), SNFU (first 2 albums), Rorschach, and Life's Blood (if you realy want to pay silly money on e-bay) for other classic hardcore bands of the time.

NEW YORK CITY HARD CORE ----- WARZONE!!!!

This is the best collection of the best CDs by legendary Warzone. Why are Warzone so legendary in terms of music? Because they're among first bands to truly cross over two distinct music (Oi! and Hardcore) and blend together to make a unique sound of N.Y.H.C.. This is important CD because it highlights outstanding tracks from all their Victory-rec releases. Not only does they have a great Oi! element of sing-along, but also there are incredible breakdowns in almost all songs. Their songs starts as fast and then introduces very unexpected rhythem change, usually ushering by the bass riff.
Unlike other hardcore bands, Raybeez's voice is highly distinguishable. In the year of 2006, Warzone is still alive within our hearts. Don't need to mention my favorite tracks, since all are true for. Warzone is the greatest.

And for the canadien that's from toronto that actually doesn't know anything about the real mean streets or survival needs to put a maple leaf in his mouth and shut up. This is music for people that actually had to struggle and managed to overcome anything worse than some farm boy from canada. why dont you go listen to Nickelback, thats about up your league.

the way it used to be..........2006-04-24

I've never been a huge fan of compilations... Too many different bands usually imply too many different musical styles... The result? Albums with no solid identities.

However, this time, Revelation Records did a great job with 'The New York City Hardcore : the way it is'. This album represented an interesting array of the new york hardcore scene in its golden years.

Obviously, "Sick of It All", "Gorilla Biscuits", "Youth of Today" or "Warzone" were among the 'elite' hardcore bands and most of their songs are quite good if not of their best...

But I was highly impressed by lesser known gangs like "Nausea" (just listen the ferocious 'Fallout of Our Being' one time...), "Side By Side" (two superb tunes!), "Youth Defense League", "Breakdown" or... "Supertouch"!!! (Yep, I have to confess you that 'Searching for the light' is simply an amazing song and one of my all time fav').

The New York City Hardcore? The Way It was!

This is the compilation that was being talked about in the HC scene for years. It's an history of NYHC (88 era). All great band but except for one - Youth Defense League, a skinhead pro-america nazist bands and that's the bad part of this compilation.

A little dissapointed.......2000-08-21

They're are some good hardcore bands on here like Gorilla Biscuits , Sick Of It All , Youth Of Today , but the songs they have choosen aren't really each bands best. I thought it was cool to hear the bands in their earlier periods though. But this is the last time I buy a comp CD.

This Cd is good! It has alot of great legendary band's from NYC. I think that they could of made it better by having each band have two song's. Other than that I was pleased with this CD!

Great final effort by one of NYHC greatest. As fast and energetic as ever. Raybeez delivers positive attidude and grate messeges on his poetic style lyrics. Fast, catchy, melodic and tons of sing alongs......this is a great album to considered. IF you are into great NYHC ala old agnostic front, cro-mags, sick of it all, murphy's law,or the bad brains.....get this!

I love this damn cd!! I don't know why more people pay attention to this release from WARZONE?! It's the awesome NYHC sound of Warzone with great (but not overdone) production values!! "Fear of Regret", "murder in the first degree", "going psycho" are some of the best hardcore songs I've ever heard!! Simply brilliant!!

Power groove Death at it's best.......2007-07-25

Nothing complicated, no solos----just straight up, in your face drop-tuned groove death metal. I have all of Jungle Rot's discs, and this is the best of the lot. I saw J Rot on their 1998 Slaughter The Weak tour, and thought that their first two discs would be their best---wrong. Fuel For Hate (2004) and War Zone are their best, with Fuel For Hate's "Fractured" being their best overall song, but War Zone being their BEST overall disc. Nothing is more universally accepted by more people I know as being a complete death metal jam as much as a Jungle Rot disc---simple, straight-forward, bang your head metal. Buy it.

The Good
Does not feature "A+" death metal vocals, but overall vocals are clear and easily decipherable.
Good Riffs.
Songs about war and death are always good in my book, especially when the lyrics aren't generic and boring.
Since the band got screwed out of a 2006 U.S. tour for the album, they'll be releasing another album sometime early this year.

The Bad
Not enough Double Bass. The Double Bass is there, but there are frequent moments where I think it should be there when it isn't. More often though I find myself thinking that it should be going faster.

The Ugly
Not a single guitar solo. This album is a good example of why guitar solos are important in death metal because there isn't a single one of them. As a result the album just seems to chug along without anything particularly impressive. What we have is good, but nothing to write home about. The album being only about 30 minutes is a reasonable length for it, as it doesn't wear out its welcome.

Jungle Rot is good for the occasional listen but they desperately need to start adding solos to their music. I can't say that I love the band, but I do like their music a bit. They have a formula that works for them, but they need to add more ingredients to it to work successfully.

this disc is excellent! this band knows what it is doing when it comes to rocking. they tend to slow down a bit on song # 6, but they really make up for it with the rest of the album. one cool thing about Jungle Rot is that they stand out from the pack. their music sounds like they're mixing death metal, thrash metal and groove metal together, but they still stomp. I wasn't disappointed with this disc and I hope to hear more from these guys in the future.
