    Product Description

This 20 track collection gathers a potpourri of artists from around the globe, celebrating Nelson’s legacy with a special spotlight on some of his finest self- penned introspective songs. In a 28 year history of recording music, Rick Nelson went from rockabilly artist to golden age of rock n’ roll super star, has-been, LA country rock originator, singer/songwriter and then a rejuvenated return to rockabilly. No matter what his standing on the music charts, first and foremost Nelson was a musician.

    4 out of 5 stars A well-deserved tribute.......2007-06-04

This is a wondeful collection of performers saluting one of music's most underrated talents. It's consistently impressive material - and not just the hits. This CD is a chance to discover some of Nelson's lesser known work - and some lesser known artists who deserve your attention.

Terrible Terrible Terrible!! All who participated is this ugly CD.
This is not worth the cost of a blank CD... You all should be ashamed! If you love Rick Nelson and his songs, you'll will understand
    this hack job!

5 out of 5 stars Rick Nelson - Music that makes me smile.......2006-06-26

This is a wonderful CD. Each listening deepens my appreciation for the inspired and endearing arrangements of these great classics by so many excellent musicians who've honored Rick's songs and those he made famous with their talent and perspective. The underlying spirit of joy and respect for Rick's memory and musical legacy is contagious and moving. Delightful listening, impossible without the pull of heart strings reminding me of how important, and very special, Rick's music continues to be. Thank you Planting Seeds Records and all the people involved in making this high quality CD.

5 out of 5 stars Rick Nelson - Singer, Songwriter, and Special Spirit.......2006-06-24

Of the 20 tracks on this CD, 8 were written by Rick. I mention this because it underscores the song writing talents of Ricky Nelson, so overlooked in his wonderful and extensive musical career. I am absolutely thrilled with this CD. The musicianship of each group's performance is excellent and the renditions of each song brings a freshness to the spirit of Rick's legacy. The engineering is great and arrangements are special. Many kudos to Planting Seeds Records and those associated with this entire project for making this concept a reality. To say that some of the proceeds of each CD goes to cancer is heartwarming! The CD is a must for all Rick Nelson fans around the globe, both new and those who remember the love Ricky brought to all of us through his music, and career.

    Album Description

One of the many rave reviews of New York City singer-songsmith Linda Draper's third album PATCHWORK proclaimed: "The strength of her output increases with each record and it's obvious that she's on the brink of achieving something great…" (Splendid ). Now with her much anticipated fourth album, titled " One Two Three Four" (PSRCD-033), this prediction is clearly evident. Joining forces once again with legendary downtown icon and music producer Kramer (Galaxie 500, Low, Sonic Youth, Urge Overkill, and founder of Shimmy Disc Records ), "One Two Three Four" is from start to finish, a truly divine and timeless listening experience, presenting Linda Draper's atmospheric space folk style.

The overall atmosphere of Linda Draper's latest LP flows with a subtle grace as well as its steady timing and deliberate pace, hence the title, "One Two Three Four." From the outset, the warmth and directness of Linda's voice draws you in - what makes you stay is the sincerity and integrity of her lyrics - and what keeps you coming back for more is the timeless quality of the music. "One Two Three Four" was recorded in downtown NYC at Tribeca Recording as well as in the more intimate setting at Noise New York. Apart from producing and engineering, Kramer contributes his unique musical style with his own lush and harmonious instrumental arrangements - accentuating the purity and brilliance of Linda Draper's angelic voice, lyrics, and her accomplished distinct guitar-playing style. Acoustic and bass guitar lines ebb and flow on songs such as the opening track, "Super Zero" with it's waltz-like tempo and catchy sing-along quality. The album also includes the haunting "Baby Inchworm" where Draper's choir-like vocals are sprinkled with bits of accordion sounds - truly elegant but chilling. "Needlessly" a sad yet hopeful love song, will inevitably stick in your head, with it's simple vocal/acoustic guitar arrangement. "Candle Opera", the penultimate number, where gentle drums rolls and church bells provide an irresistible intensity and epic like quality. "Seven Black Crows", has been described as a beautiful song to a dying loved one and a person's soul journeys to unfathomed places beyond this world. It's a moving piece with its passion and eloquent grace. In between, the LP features 12 beautifully crafted songs. The title track closes the LP with its counting off of One Two Three Four…

I accidentally came across this CD while reading a review of Linda Draper, I sent for it and have played it about fifty times. She has an amazing voice, is a great writer, and the whole delivery of the music is wonderful. I think this is a multigenerational CD, and a great collection of songs. You should get this CD, She is terrific.

5 out of 5 stars Chill Up The Spine Indie Folk Psyche Beauty!.......2006-03-13

It's hard to define that certain something in music that makes it feel a certain way instead of just sounding a certain way. Whatever that essence or spirit is, Linda Draper definitely possesses it- the feelings brought by this cd I can liken to first listening to Vashti Bunyan, Nick Drake, etc- artists who have that abillity to take you in, envlope you in song form. Linda's songs could loosely be filed under the psyche/folk category that is pretty popular lately, but there is something here that transcends the trends of the moment. To those that live in a city and have a heart that beats in a less frantic way, this will resonate- the lyrics both speak to the defenses of living in such an area and the yearning for something that illuminates all the chaos (at least they do for me). In any case, I just felt this cd deserved some praise on Amazon- it really is something special.

    Product Description

At long last heres the Freeheat album that almost never was. Exploding on to a hi-fi near you is the first full-length album from the band who count The Jesus & Mary Chain, The Gun Club and Earl Brutus amongst their pedigree. Featuring sessions recorded at the Mary Chains infamous Drugstore, along with classic live tracks from the Paradiso, Amsterdam. Back On The Water is guaranteed to thrill you to your rocknroll core. The live moments are breathtaking and beautifully raw whilst Freeheats studio exploration visits brisk distorted multi-layered melodic blasts of sound. Its a stripped down affair but make no mistake, it reaffirms Jim Reid & Companys knack for writing the timeless perfect pop song - think Andy Warhol and absinth or a new pop-art for the new century.

5 out of 5 stars face the facts.......2006-09-25

I was hanging in NYC back in 2000. I was at the CMJ festival. I was checking out this new band called Freeheat. I noticed they sounded a lot like Jesus and the Mary Chain. The lead singer looked like Jim Reid. Hey! It was he. Later I was talking to Anton Newcombe of Brian Jonestown Massacre. Apparently he was at the show too. He felt like that they were too much like JAMC. There were other bands around like Spiritualized and Lupine Howl who had moved on. Freeheat is like JAMC JR. There are some live tracks and some studio stuff. This band has been around for eight years but they haven't released many records. Most of this material comes from a show in 2004. Some of those live songs like "What Goes Around" and "Facing Up To The Facts" are excellent. "Get On Home" is cool studio track. Some songs are doubled. That's okay. It's a schizophrenic record. Fans of Jim Reid should like this record. It's good to have Freeheat still around. I am burning up.

3 out of 5 stars I have to be realistic here.......2006-07-27

I love the Mary Chain, I love all their albums, but Freeheat just hasn't delevered. They released the same EP twice, and then This comes out what almost 6 years after. the Studio songs are great, the live stuff is so-so but truth be told, the bass line sounds the same on most of the songs. the "Dead End Kids" single is great and the single he did with Sister Vanilla is way more satisfying. I like the album don't get me wrong, But I would like to see Jim sit down and make an album, not a song here and there when it hits him and then put a bunch of filler together to make and album.
In the end it sounds alot like rehashes of MUNKI and the thing that made the Mary Chain great was that every album sounded different from the last.

5 out of 5 stars An Unexpected Delight.......2006-07-09

Are you a fan of The Jesus & Mary Chain? Did you find William Reid's emotional meltdown recordings under the Lazycame moniker a bit unapproachable (I didn't...many did)? Are you longing for something that equates more closely to the classic Mary Chain template? Well look no further. Jim Reid started recording stuff as Freeheat back in 1997 and after the Mary Chain fell apart the band toured for a short while and released a couple of EPs (Don't Worry, Be Happy & Retox). Retox in particular (being mostly a cleaned up version of the earlier EP) hinted that Freeheat could be the true torch bearers of the Mary Chain legacy. Unfortunately for reasons i'm not aware of it didn't work (presumably it had a lot to do with indifference and Jim's mental state at the time). Now thanks to Planting Seeds Records we have the opportunity to more fully evaluate what could have been. Actually screw what could have been. Let's evaluate what we have. We have an album consisting 40/60 studio recording/live recordings. And it's quite magnificent. I never saw Freeheat live but judged by the live cuts here they were a sharp outfit. Lyrics pretty much follow the same sex and drugs formula that the Mary Chain adhered to with a liberal smattering of the Jesus/religion imagery that was a constant in the Reid's songwriting. There's also a lot of profanity. But the Reid's always knew how to swear with style and that hasn't changed here. I can honestly say that I was a little bit shocked by how quickly this album drew me in. I would even go so far as to say that I prefer it to both Stoned And Dethroned and Munki (it's about the equal of Automatic). If you are a Mary Chain fan jonesing for another fix of Reid magic then look no further than Back On The Water. You're prayers have been answered.

Oh..and if you like this you should definitely check out Sister Vanilla plus Jim has been touring solo recently and an album is looking like a definite maybe. Fingers crossed.

5 out of 5 stars Following form of The Jesus & Mary Chain.......2006-07-01

After listening to William Reid's pathetic solo debut as lazycame on finbegin, it's hard to understand why most of jamc "hit" singles were penned by him.
Here comes Jim Reid's debut full length as freeheat and it sounds as if it is a reincarntaion of one of the most overlooked bands from the 80's-90's. The jamc sound still lives on in this album and I would strongly encourage you to make the purchase of this exceptional CD. It's chock full of the trademark distortion, pure power pop songcraft and attitude. He brings along Romi Mori (Gun Club), Ben Lurie and Nick Sanderson. Don't get freaked by all the live tracks, it definately gives the release a rawer edge.

      Album Description

After one listen to The Voyces Planting Seeds Records' debut Kissing Like It's Love and you'll be hooked to their glowing tuneful style. The band echoes the sounds of pop music's past as well as its ever so fervent future. Principal songwriter Brian Wurschum creates the well-crafted pop song, recalling the mid 60's era of The Beatles, the folk rock of Simon & Garfunkel, and the 70's mini rock epics ala Pink Floyd. Their style maybe placed in a box and labeled anywhere from: Rock, Folk Rock, Acoustic Folk Rock, New York Folk, and everywhere in between. The sunny California shine of the title track 'Kissing Like It's Love' launches the groups long awaited LP with it's sugary sweet chorus. Whether blending funky pop, epic rockers or near psychedelia, Kissing Like It's Love collects ten tracks of pure pop heaven you're sure to fall for. The band was formed in 1999, with its origins in Southern California. Brian and company later moved east to New York City and was quickly embraced by the east villages' anti-folk scene. The Voyces have shared stages with acts as diverse as America, Cracker, and Regina Spektor among countless others. The Voyces have created an impressive catalog of music. Their first self released LP, 2003's The Angels Of Fun showcased their fine blend of folk rock and celestial harmonies. The acoustic gem 'Relate To Me' was featured on Jack Johnson's Motion Picture Soundtrack, Thicker Than Water (2003) furthering the groups worldwide fan base. They followed in 2004 with an appearance on Planting Seeds Records critically acclaimed collection Sunsets And Silhouettes, which also features amazing performances from Linda Draper, Camera Obscura, Mark Gardener (Ride) and Freeheat (Jim Reid and Ben Lurie of The Jesus & Mary Chain) among the 18 tracks. In 2006 the band contributed the song 'Poor Little Fool' to a loving tribute to rock legend and country rock pioneer Rick Nelson, titled Easy To Be Free: The Songs of Rick Nelson. The band also released Love Arcade in 2006 - a collection of the bands hits, demos, and fan favorites.

Leeds-based musician Chris Hooson is a very prolific man. He seems to brim over with ideas for songs and projects. Although he works a full job as an adviser in a probation center, he and his band Dakota Suite still find enough time to put all these songs on magnetic tape. Over the years, Dakota Suite have released a singles compilation (Alone With Everybody, 1998), a collection of instrumental pieces for piano and assorted instruments (Navigators Yard, 1999), another instrumental one recorded with a chamber orchestra (The Way I Am Sick, 2001), a mini album (Morning Lake Forever, 2000) and two "real" full-length albums: Songs For A Barbed Wire Fence(1998) and Signal Hill(2000). Without wanting to dismiss all the other projects, This River Only Brings Poison is Dakota Suite's third album.

In this world of comercial hiphop hype, its rare to find a treat like this. An indie hiphop album thats getting its roots spread. This group arranged by Capital D (as in PhD) of All Natural is just ill. This is an amazing symphonic bit of hip hop history, and Family tree will sure to be one of the next big acts of this new century. This album has a very distinct chicago sound, and has some of the illest lyrics and beats i've heard on any label, and that is just an amazing feat for an indie label. The production quality is very high, and the dj work is sick. This album is must have for any chi town resident, or anyone who wants to hear something quality. Put down your Pdiddy CD at the virgin megastore, and go pick this up, you'll be more pleased, because every track on this album is amazing.
