Album Description
The 15th solo release from Academy and Grammy award-winning composer and musician Ryuichi Sakamoto. "I feel exhilarated. I'm satisfied. Truly, very satisfied. Just as I felt after making "Esperanto," I feel I've created something personally very important to me." - Ryuichi SakamotoCustomer Reviews:

Chasm . . . Throw This Off A Cliff.......2006-06-07
strk bty.......2005-09-06
Chasm, one of his latest releases, is a fusion of his acoustic work combined with modern electronic laptop-style production. It is a peaceful listen, sounding like Pan Sonic, Oval, and at times Alec Empire, Towa Tei, or Satie. Its songs are soothing and synthetic for the most part; and, despite the synthesized sterility, they can still penetrate the heart.
"War & Peace" offers a nice subtly glitchy and warm backdrop and confronts us with various contemplations about life, notions about human nature. This piece impresses me because he is asking us to think deeply about these things, an interactive approach to music that I have seldom witnessed. On "Only Love Can Conquer Hate," a 10 minute long trip into ambient territory, Sakamoto creates the most delicate beauty with a simple, quiet bassline and chords run through quivering dsp(? i think) filters. I feel this piece is trying to remedy the pain and stressfulness in our daily, modern lives telling us that it will be okay. This subject is also directly addressed in "World Citizen." His jazzy piano work is showcased in "Ngo/Bitmix." It is very nostalgic sounding chamber music combined with tiny electroacoustic techniques that snap so quietly, like a campfire ... and a tint of bossanova too. Almost sounding like a demo, but if anything else was added, it would sound too congested.
There are other songs that catch my interest: "Laménto" seems like it may be autobiographical (though I could be wrong) using samples of sheets of paper turning and foot steps. There is some R&B influence too on "Undercooled" and "+pantonal," as well as Japanese influence on "Undercooled" and "Seven Samurai- ending theme." His deconstruction of World Citizen is almost better than the original, a truly brilliant remix. And you can't say that about too many remixes (these days remixes can be so goofy).
So many electronic artists nowadays do not have much skill at composition or playing instruments. They rely on software, editing, or just sampling real musicians to get by, sadly; and although this technology lets almost anybody make music (we can hear music from so many people that wouldn't otherwise make music) which can be exciting, the musicianship is lost in much electronic music. Ryuichi Sakamoto is a rare example of true talent in electronic music today.

A Must Have Album.......2006-01-03
A One Of A Kind Metal Of Death Band.......2004-11-16
Creative ,Melodic Death Metal.......2004-09-18
Musically, the Chasm have achieved what few currently active bands have: a melodic Death Metal sound that in no way borrows from or imitates the old or current Swedish melodic Death Metal bands. Although the Chasm relies on interesting harmonies, they never sound like happy, catchy commercial jingles like the Swedish bands. When they harmonize a melody, they almost exclusively rely on minor scales or other dissonant derivatives, creating a very frightful aura that seems to mix equal parts anger and sorrow. I know all significant Death Metal bands--dating back to the genre's inception--and I don't recall ever hearing a band that has acheived this unique blend of emotion.
Antonio Leon, the drummer, is not nearly as spectacular as Morbid Angel's Pete Sandoval or the legendary Gene Hoglan, but he does one thing they don't do: he doesn't rely on gallopy double bass, thrash beats, or blast beats. He is very creative, using a wide variety of styles within a single song. And every song seems to refreshing and different from the previous one (which is so rare in Death Metal) because of creative and varied drumming.
Not much can be said for vocals. Nearly all death metal band sing in either a grunt, a growl, a screech, a howl, or some mixture thereof. If you like death metal, the vocals will not displease you; however, no new vocal developments are procreated by this album. In fact, I don't think we will ever see an advancement in Death Metal vocals.
If you are looking for a creative, original Death Metal band that employs dark harmonies and varied speeds, I highly recommend this album. It truly is a milestone in Death Metal--an underappreciated gem. If you are looking for blasting grindcore, Old School Death Metal, or the Swedish style, stay away from this album. I only recommend to the Death Metal user, looking to expand his or her musical horizons within the Death Metal genre.

Amazing.......2005-12-09
With chops and songwriting skills galore, this is an album that will please any DM fan looking for music high on quality and low on hype. The Chasm are well versed in all styles of extreme metal, from old school Celtic Frost and Venom to Morbid Angel and Emperor. This album is a must for any Death Metal fan, you won't be dissapointed.
Destined to be underrated.......2005-11-14
First of all, what sets The Chasm apart is their identity. Like some of the bands from the 80s (Deathrow, Destruction, Whiplash, Candlemass), The Chasm ooze individuality. No generic blastbeating (not to say there are no blastbeats), no tinny and copycat production, no over reliance on melody or rhythm exclusively. When you hear The Chasm, you know it is The Chasm, more than can be said for many of their contemporaries.
Secondly, the band write songs. Admittedely, they ARE complex and they do require repeated listens but they definitely strike the patient listener as songs as opposed to mere riff collections.
Third, they manage to create an atmosphere unlike most metal bands today. They create an aural darkness which is engaging (perhaps due to the flawed but authentic production) yet distant. Of course, that sounds contradictory but Burzum did the same thing I suppose as do Blut Aus Nord these days.
The Chasm deserve your attention and possibly more importantly to the discerning consumer, you money for their sheer commitment to quality in an age of countless cliche.
Solid Epic Old-School Death Metal.......2005-06-10
Though the individual parts are good, they don't always add up perfectly. Suffice to say, though this album is definitely a good listen, some of the tracks still blur together a bit even after a dozen or so listens. (Still, it may come together a bit more after some more time, as this is some really quite complex stuff) Sounds good while it's there, but it's not always too memorable.(Again, a common DM problem) However, there are a few definite standouts, such as the instrumental opener with it's piercing, instantly memorable lead lines, and track six, with it's doomy melodicism and varied instrumentation, along with a fantastic climactic solo. Anyway, this is just a good DM album, and a must-listen album for those who'd be interested in hearing something that isn't completely of the times.
Great Metal.......2005-03-15
For guitar solos the best example would be the killer solo trade offs on 'the omnipotent codex' and the shimmering choruses lines on 'manifest my intervention' and the gorgeous intro to ;'remains of the covenant' are just a few examples why i'll be coming back for more!
Don't bother trying to label the chasm because they are simply just great metal. Sorry for the length of this review, but i felt i needed an epic review for an epic band.
ALL HAIL THE CHASM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Authentic Metal Of Death!.......2004-12-30
The first track up is another instrumental piece, and this one is no different than their other album openers as far as keeping me interested in the music. I really appreciate and respect this band for coming up with all of these interesting instrumental tracks; they are all adventurous, and explore different realms of the cosmos. Next up, the song The Omnipotent Codex unleashes some awesome Metal Of Death attacks. The guitar playing and drums is top notch once again! This track just kills everything, but still maintains the core Chasm elements. Conqueror and Warlord has some killer clean guitar tone work, which reminds me of Conjuration Of The Spectral Empire in a perfectly good way...these clean guitar tones induce a mood of somber ecstasy! Manifest My Intervention is more along the same lines as the previous track, and another excellent song! Fortress is more a straight ahead Death Metal attack, but it still maintains the signature Chasm sound. Retribution Of The Lost Years is the third chapter in the amazing epic I, The Pastfinder series...I think that this is a very cool idea, doing a 3 part kind of continuation of one idea/song...All three are absolutely amazing and epic in my opinion and the acoustic guitars are just awesome on this track...they are kind of more doom/gloom songs with real feeling to them and they are just excellent! Conjuring The New Apocalypse is another trademark Chasm song, and it has some of my favorite guitar riffs on it...The Eclipse is a monstrous three part epic, and somehow once again The Chasm keeps me interested even though the song is almost 10 minutes long...The last two tracks are some of my favorite ones, The Remains Of The Covenant is almost instrumental, the lyrics to it are on the back insert on the side that says Occult Tales Of Death, and the playing on this song is just amazing once again. To top all of this monumental Metal off, Eternal Cycle Of Delusion is one hell of a dark track and it takes me down into the Chasm's dark odyssey, which is where I like to be!
The Chasm is a unique, authentic Metal Of Death band. This is not everyone, but for those who take the time and energy to listen and feel this cd, it is well worth it. All of their albums are recommended, except Procreation Of The Inner Temple, that's the only I don't have... I hope that they finally get the respect and attention that they deserve now! Hail authentic Metal Of Death!!!
To clarify Antonio's drumming, I'm talking about the parts when he's using the ride cymbal, but when he hits the snare he hits the hi-hat, it adds an extra dynamic to the music in my opinion, really ingenious!!!

Album Description
"With echoes as old as the Carter Family and as fresh as any of the new traditional country, "Brand New Old Time Music" is exactly what its title implies, and it is a pure joy. The album's 12 songs... are intelligent, witty and touching, and need no more instrumental embellishment than simple, lovely acoustic settings. Grey's voice has a bluesy edge somewhat reminiscent of Maria Muldaur, with a gentle, angelic quality that harkens to early Dolly Parton. She also keeps some pretty hip company... Wynonna Judd sings harmony with Grey on two songs, and Ranger Doug of Riders in the Sky joins her on another. John Hartford lends his distinctive banjo to the effort, and multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire Albert Lee plays mandolin and guitar. All turn in fine performances , and their names surely strengthen her resume, but Grey's talent stands squarely on it's own."Gordon Ely, Richmond - Times-Dispatc

Internal Dark Force
Infinitum Obscure Manufacturer: Utturly Somber ProductGroup: Music Binding: Audio CD ASIN: B000Q02DV8 |
Product Description
Emanating from the inner burning chaotic flame, Infinitum Obscure hail from Tijuana , Baja California, MEXICO. The obscure and aggressive death-metal that the band spews is a diverse mixture of styles heavily rooted in occult Metal traditions of the past, which automatically separates them from the unacceptable trends that Metal music is now a days. Founded in 2000 by Roberto Lizarraga (guitars/vocals), and formed today along with warriors Julio Ornelas (bass guitar joined in Oct 2004), Santheago (battery joined in Nov, 2005), and Anthony Eastman (guitars joined in Oct, 2006) Infinitum Obscure has suffered several line-up changes, thus, still maintaining its anti-religious nature intact, always deeply attracted by obscurity, death and channeling a merciless desire for revenge, awaiting the dissolution of all existence and following its own infernal blackened path towards the coming final aeon. In April 2002, Infinitum Obscure did a 2 day mini-tour in Baja California, opening for legendary Spanish heavy metallers Angeles del Infierno, with great success and satisfying results. In March 2003, a self produced demo CD entitled Ipsus Universum was released and distributed the band, close friends and supporters. Unfortunately this first demo was doomed to only 250 CDR copies, due to limited funding. Shortly after the demo release, Infinitum Obscure signed a record release contract with independent, Chicagobased, underground label Uttelry Somber Creations. Inseptember 2003, the Ipsus Universum split CD (with Chicagos Ancient Gods) was released. Also in September that year, Infinitum Obscure formed Part of the infamous Aztec Underground Legions Tour in Chicagoand Milwaukeealong with brothers of death The Chasm, Obeisance and Ancient Gods, celebrating the spawning of the split CD. In mid 2005, Infinitum Obscure completed composition & recording of their first full-length album entitled Internal Dark Force.
