Set in dark, slickened streets and populated by a stellar ensemble cast, this adaptation of Frank Miller's hard-edged, film noir inspired graphic novels plays like comic-book-come-to-life—not surprising, as Miller is credited as Robert Rodriguez's co-director (with a bit of help from Quentin Tarantino). The soundtrack to this bleak, compelling exercise in pure noir stylism is provided mostly by director Rodriguez, with an occasional assist from past collaborators John Debney (Spy Kids and its sequel) and Graeme Revell (From Dusk Til Dawn). While their largely synth-driven cues tend naturally towards brooding atmospheric soundscapes, their tense electro-rhythms are seasoned with bracing doses of sinewy, sensual sax and dotted with the occasional bongo flourish, details that musically evoke both a shadowy humanity and the film's genre-savvy roots. Also featuring disparate, yet wholly integrated contributions from techno-house savants Fluke (the hypnotic "Absurd") and 20th century Mexican classicist Silvestre Revueltas, it's the sinister flipside to the future-jazz sheen of Vangelis' classic Blade Runner.--Jerry McCulley

3 out of 5 stars trailer music.......2006-08-06

i listened to the servant song and i know everyone said its pretty well known that that is the song they used in the trailer, but if you listen to "broken chairs" by built to spill it really sounds like parts of the trailer music too. and its also a good song. so i would recommend trying that as well!

5 out of 5 stars Great!.......2006-01-17

Now, i loved the movie, but the soundtrack blew me away! all the songs fit the movie perfectly. However, it is missing the instrumental version of "Cells" by the Servants, which plays on the DVD title menu
so, here you go:

Instrumental Version!
Have Fun

Is a very good soundtrack because i think that Robert Rodriguez has made a great choice with the composers and his own musical composition

While the previous reviwer was correct that Cells the trailer song is not on the soundtrack, Servant did indeed create an instrumental version and you can obtain it at this link follow the instructions it is at the Servant website so its legal and its for a limited time only!

Your Welcome ;)

4 out of 5 stars An addendum to "FangsFirst" comment.......2005-09-16

FangsFirst is absoluty correct -- trailer music is almost never on the movie's soundtrack. An interesting additional bit of trivia, however; almost all trailer themes ARE from a movie soundtrack, just from a DIFFERENT movie than the one the trailer is for!

So if you're looking for "Cells" by The Servant (the song from the Sin City trailer), take a look at the soundtrack to Transporter 2. You'll find it along with another song by The Servant. "Cells" does have lyrics to it (which aren't on the Sin City trailer), but it's still a damned good song.

Just thought I'd share that with everybody.

4 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2005-03-30

This album absolutely rocks. Of course, if fulfills my need for something dirty, it's hard and the lyrics and music are great!

My favorite track is "Terrorvision" I think the lyrics are just awesome and the chorus can have me singing for hours!

This stuff is heavy and not for the faint of heart. If you like heavy metal, then here you go. It has a chick fronter, and she rocks of course.

I'm eagerly awaiting their new album which is due out in the summer I believe!

2 out of 5 stars A far cry from 120 Days.......2005-03-30

I love 120 Days, but am very disappointed in this disc. Gone are the heavy riffs and are replaced by an overdose of industrial sounds. 120 Days was a perfect blend of both. The only tracks I cared for are: Sin City, One Who Feeds, Squealer.

2 out of 5 stars Genitortures - 'Sin City' (Cleopatra).......2005-01-21

I'll give it 2 1/2 stars.'Sin City' is the band's second CD as I'm sorry to say that it's not as good as I had expected. It's fair. One could describe their music as industrial metal.Their lead vocalist/sex circus ringleader known simply as Gen is quite the outrageous show girl while performing live out on tour.I've seen the band once on this very tour as I remember Gen brought out two women dressed as young Catholic school girls and as each song progressed to the next,Gen kept increasing the two girl's punishments. They almost make the Plasmatics and Gwar seem like Romper Room.As for the tunes that I thought were decent are "Terror Vision",their AC/DC cover "Squealer","4 Walls Black" and "Crucified"(at the concert I saw, they did some unmentionable sacrilegious things).Honestly, when I attended this show,I almost thought I was at a taping of the Jerry Springer show,on S&M night.Might appeal to fans of Marilyn Manson,Leather Strip and possibly Die Cheerleader.

3 out of 5 stars Sin City.......2004-08-17

I loved this album, but felt it sounded just a little too much like Lords of Acid. Don't get me worng, I love them too, but Lords of Acid is supposed to sound like Lords of Acid. A good listen, but very lacking in originality. I've already got most of the Lords of Acid albums, if I wanted more, I finish out my collection.

5 out of 5 stars I liked their first album better also but.......2004-08-03

after a few listenings it is an awsome album too, I managed to burn this one out from over playing it. Its a shame this band isnt more well known. Maybe some of its there own fault by being so underground and controversial they ensure never to hit mainstream. I seen them live in vegas. Paddling girls, stringing guys to crosses while they stitch up their lips (real blood and everything). I met her after the show and she said she takes so long gettign albums out because theyve been battling with their record companies.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars These songs changed my life.......2007-01-03

The first time I heard the Flying Burrito Brothers I realized this was something new and terrific. Today I get the same excitement listening to the fresh beginnings of the whole country rock movement. The raw genius of Graham Parsons comes shining through in every track.

4 out of 5 stars Twofer Album Package of Gram Parsons .......2005-05-02

The title says "the very best of" The Flying Burrito Brothers, but at first I wanted to nitpick that it was simply the two albums Gram Parsons recorded while a member. After much repeat listenings, however, I'm inclined to believe that this really is the best of the Burritos. And that's because this set delivers.

After leaving the Byrds in 1968, Chris Hillman and Gram Parsons examined their shared love of country music, albeit through the lens of warped psychelica and rock music that was the byproduct of their times. As a debut offering, "The Gilded Palace of Sin" (the first 11 tracks) is everything a debut should be: eye-openind, breathtaking, masterful and enjoyable. With such stand-outs (and should-be-standards if they're not already) like "Christine's Tune", "My Uncle", and "Hot Burrito #1" and "Hot Burrito #2", the Brothers stake their own unique claim on rock-meets-country. It's a satisfying stew that is only emphasized further by such covers as "Dark End of The Street", and great originals from Hillman and Parsons like "Sin City". Simply put, there is not a bad track on this album.

Which makes the follow-up effort (after "The Train Song", this constitutes the next ten or eleven tracks) suffer by comparison. After starting off strong with "Lazy Days", the album entitled "Burrito Deluxe" simply doesn't come across with the same power as the debut. I'm sure in time I'll learn to enjoy the album on its own merits, but I can't help but feel that "Burrito Deluxe" suffers by being included here. Perhaps a two-disc option would have been advisable, but in it's present format the second album comes off as almost a lazy, formulaic follow-up, a sophmore slump which Parsons never recovered from (he would leave the band shortly after, preferring to hang out with the Rolling Stones).

The bonus tracks (the aforementioned "Train Song", "Close Down the Honky-Tonks", etc) are all fantastic in their own right, and there are even some great "Deluxe" tracks worth putting on repeat ("Wild Horses" gets a great country treatment), but overall I'd have to recommend this for "The Gilded Palace of Sin" alone. It's the one that I keep putting on repeat, especially "Dark End", "Christine" and "Hot Burrito #1". Perhaps in time I'll learn to love "Burrito Deluxe" as well, but for the time being it's more of a nice afterthought than an essential back-to-back listening experience.

After the Brothers, Parsons would squander his talents until recording two solo albums that I plan to pick up later on. But while with the Flying Burrito Brothers (and on their debut in particular), his vision of Cosmic American Music came to fruition and helped to change the face of rock and roll. This best-of package demonstrates why. And it's the best possible introduction...

5 out of 5 stars This music is unknown and terrific.......2005-02-18

DO NOT pay any attention to the people who criticize this cd as a bad repackaging. It is the best deal for FBB music that I have seen, and all on one disc!! I don't get tired of this cd because it is filled with wonderful songs, and it is now one of my desert island cd's. The best songs are off of the gilded house of sin, but other songs on here are terrific also. This is worth the price, because there are also other songs thrown in not from the albums. great deal, just get it!

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST FBB CD.......2004-12-08

All the tracks of "Gilded Palace of Sin" and "Burrito Deluxe" and a few extra non-album tracks, all on one CD. This makes the twofer "Gilded Palace of Sin/Burrito Deluxe" redundant. If you really want the Rick Roberts tracks, then get the two disc Burritos anthology. But if, like myself, you're not a big Rick Roberts fan, this is the one. "Here Tonight," the only great Rick Roberts era song in my opinion is also on the Gene Clark album "Roadmaster." If you want that song, get Roadmaster, not the Burritos Anthology. Yeah, if you already own most of the tracks, there's no reason to get this, but, if you don't, then seriously, get this one. Or, you might consider the Gram Parsons anthology.

But, in my opinion, you're better off with "Sin City," the Byrds' "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" (the Parsons anthology only has the tracks with Parsons vocals, but the rest of the album is excellent as well) and "GP/Grievous Angel," to make your Burritos/Parsons/Byrds collection complete.

So yeah- if you're looking at this item, you're probably a Parsons/Burritos fan, or you want to become a Parsons/Burritos fan, and so, you want to buy a good Parsons/Burritos CD. If that is so, then you should seriously consider buying this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Gimme a Break.......2004-11-21

First off, I don't have this.

So you might wonder what qualifies me to write this review. Well, I do have "Hot Burritos!", the 2-CD Flying Burrito Bros. anthology, and frankly it's too much. "Farther Along," an earlier single-CD best-of, left off "My Uncle" and "Hippie Boy" from the landmark "The Gilded Palace of Sin". Disc 2 of "Hot Burritos!" has a couple decent outtakes from the group's last sessions with Gram Parsons - two of which are included here - but the rest comprises the Gram-less self-titled third album and other ephemera. I rarely pull out the second disc. Ergo, this is easily the best Burritos comp on the market, since it comprises all the essential stuff from the "real" Burrito Brothers, i.e. the lineup that included Gram Parsons. Some folks complain that it's yet another repackaging of the same old tracks. Well, that's certainly true, but it's the best one yet, and anyway this compilation isn't intended for people who already have these songs. Get "Sin City" and the Reprise two-fer "GP/Grievous Angel" and you've got yourself a damn fine Gram Parsons overview. Parsons didn't invent country-rock, which is if anything an even more redundant categorization that "folk-rock," but he was the only country-rocker with a natural affinity and connection for both genres; the hybrid came as naturally to him as breathing. I should note, too, that the Flying Burrito Brothers was a group with two frontmen, the other being fellow ex-Byrd Chris Hillman. Their collaboration (both in songwriting and performing, as evinced by their wonderful harmonies here) resulted in one brilliant LP and a rather less excellent follow-up, both of which are contained in their entirety here. If you want to know where everybody from the Eagles to Wilco came from, this is the place to start. That said, after "The Gilded Palace of Sin," country-rock would never be quite this weird or this magical again. There's a reason Gram called it "Cosmic American Music"; pick up this record to find out why.

The Go Getters are great Sweden rockabilly band! This is their fourth album. There are no covers only originals written by stand-up drummer, singer and harmonica player Pete Sandberg, who is only regular band member. The album is featuring hot rockin' numbers like "I'm A Road Zombie", "Cars, Bars & Guitars", two instrumentals "Sin City" and "Pinstripper", and beautiful country songs "Desert Rose" and "Forever". "Bourbon Train" reminds me on "Mystery Train" a little.

I was introduced to this band's music two years ago in Los Angeles by going to a bar where they had a gig. It was a small bar, but they rocked so much that even though there was no room to dance people did it anyway. It was my first time to hear Rock-a-Billy and I was blown away I had to get their album. "Welcome to Sin City" is fun and jumpy and you can't help yourself but smile when you listen to it. Now that I know they have more albums on Amazon.com I am definitely getting more!

5 out of 5 stars A minor masterpiece, at a minimum.......2006-03-30

Lucinda Williams' Amazon recommendation steered me toward this disc, and it makes me grateful for the wonders of the web--this is pop music with a fabulous edge (not unlike the best of Williams' work). Mooney is, first of all, a terrific singer; a low-key presentation with the chops to conjur up the jazz and r&b greats, but the style to hold them back for the right moments. She's also developing a unique voice as a songwriter. Some of these tunes may start out seeming ordinary, but they drift into wonderfully off-beat structures and progressions--without the listener being quite sure what happened. Her lyrics are top notch, too, slightly quirky, with a bull's-eye sense of image, such as "Somewhere there's a ball game on the radio," or "Imagine you're just going to the store/and instead you won't be back anymore."

All of that is great, but what is really impressive is the package that she produced to hold it all together. The presentation is generally fairly quiet and spare, with an emphasis on a dream-like movement through time--an almost-typical, somewhat country-influenced acoustic guitar/bass/drum blend nudged along (or perhaps floated along) by superb pedal steel, vibraphone, mandolin, and sometimes cello. It's a very original and intoxicating stirring of sounds, extremely well-recorded...audiophiles, take note.

This disc was released in 2004. I hope there's another on the way soon. Depth, originality, style, splendid execution...this is worth getting excited about.

5 out of 5 stars brilliant voice and songwriting.......2005-05-14

This is Calexico backing one of the most underrated vocalists in the US, Kristin Mooney. Used to see her play in Mpls-St. Paul before she moved to LA and she has blown me away with this record. Lyrical, mysterious, music for the top-down drive to nowhere across the lost American landscape and the thrill of longing and love behind it all. Great great record, incredible vision and a voice that will leave you wondering why you have not heard her before.

5 out of 5 stars Hardcore gone country.......2006-01-05

Sporting members of a couple of the best screamy bands of the last decade (Botch/These Arms Are Snakes and Harkonnen), Roy delivers all the drive and depth I came to expect from them as kids but in a traditional rock and roll flavor. The songs range from country to noisy rock to ballads, but they never disappoint.

Fans of Lucero, the Replacements and maybe even Billy Bragg will dig these guys. One of my friends said "the best Beatles songs not by the Beatles", though I'm not sure I agree. All I know is I own all their albums.

Full disclosure -- I know some of these guys and have been fans of their various projects for a long time. Still, I'm enough of a music snob that I wouldn't write anything if I didn't love the band.

3 out of 5 stars KInda Like a Midwestern Landscape..........2004-02-27

Roy lies somewhere in the grey, money absorbing limbo of memorable, gritty, from-the-heart indie rock ,and utterly forgettable, over produced top-40, mainstream tripe. That's this album's problem. It rises above oodles of most junk that comes out these days, but doesn't manage to stick to your ribs the way it should. Everything is there: Catchy melodies, interesting, passionate writing, but it seems to fall short of everything that has been done like it before. The slower songs, which measure up to more than half of the album, remind me of a less baroque Jets to Brazil. Just imagine the singer with less of Blake's faux-english accent, and the music stripped down, simplified, and you've got Roy's slower selections on this album. I was softly dissapointed. I do look frwd to future projects by ROY though. One that will hopfully jump outta my speakers and grab and shake me, unlike this one which churns and spins and makes all the right moves, but makes little more than good background or driving music.

5 out of 5 stars No, it's not Gram but it's still better than any of today's CD's.......2006-03-18

If you're looking for Gram this isn't the CD for you obviously, however I thoroughly enjoy this somewhat "rough" sounding disc. In fact, this cd makes me want to be sitting right in front of a band like this at the local bar. Be sure to listen to some of the sample files before discounting this disc, you may be surprised that you actually like them in spite of the technical faults.

3 out of 5 stars Not their best but still good.......1999-11-27

Certainly, this is not the best live cd available from The Flying Burrito Brothers; it's probably the worst. Still, there are some interesting performances, especially on 'Waiting For Love To Begin'. Overall, though, this is really only for completists and real true fans. As for this last reviewer's comments...The Flying Burrito Brothers are indeed the greatest country-rock band, in all of their lineups. This is not nearly as bad as his review would lead you to believe.

1 out of 5 stars No Gram, save your money.......1998-08-30

This ranks as one of the ten most disappointing CD's I have ever purchased (in a collection of over one thousand). It's mostly my fault; I did not do enough research. I've been looking for this disc for several years and always assumed it was the Gram Parsons Burritos. Instead it is the post-Gram group, which is a very average country rock band. This is a way below average effort. Recorded live and badly, it offers booming bass, distorted highs, and even static (apparently from the amplifiers connections). The singers were not in especially good form either.

If you're interested in this group because of the alt.country connection, go for Farther Along, a 21-song compilation of the best of the REAL Flying Burrito Brothers. Also good is GP/Grievous Angel, which collects two albums on one CD, and includes some of Gram's classic work with Emmylou Harris.
