Album Description

Multi-platinum recording artist Lil' Kim possesses a presence and persona that looms well beyond her tiny frame. From her days as the feisty front woman of the Brooklyn rap collective, Junior M.A.F.I.A.- playing the Bonnie to the Notorious B.I.G.'s Clyde to her current status as hip-hop's Grammy-winning, fashion-forward Queen Bee, Kim continues to effortlessly captivate, seduce, provoke, and entertain. Whether she is ripping it live onstage, working it on the runway, or turning heads on the red carpet, Kim makes you look and listen! Kim is back with a vengeance with her fourth studio album taking her back to the days of Hard Core. Her highly anticipated and controversial release promises to be an event.

1 out of 5 stars Fake, horrible talent.......2006-12-28

Years ago I had the pleasure of meeting the REAL lil'kim from when Diddy and them all were just starting out. Unknownst to most people there were actually two Lil'Kims. Like many sad stories, the less talented one succeeded while the talented, true and beautiful Kim now lives in ghetto of Philly trying to make ends meet. Like her name, Lil'Kim, has lil' talent. Don't waste your money on this - McD's fries are more healther for your ears then this! Two thumbs down!

5 out of 5 stars Kim Been The First Lady Since She Dropped Hardcore.......2006-12-21

Lil' Kim has a tendency to have a theme run through each of her albums. Hardcore was Kim being gangsta and her solo debut into the industry. The Notorious K.I.M. was sexy showing everyone what Kim can do. "La Bella Mafia" was the fun album. The Naked Truth is the album that combats all the negativity thrown at her when she went to prison. Kim really got everything off her chest on this album and that shows us she's not afraid to get personal. Even though some people say that Kim sounds bitter, I think she's rapping what she's feeling and it brought her a great album.

Things open up with a personal favorite, "Spell Check." Kim spells her way through the song talking about how she's the baddest game and she shouldn't have to spell it out. While on the track, she takes shots at 50 Cent [implying he's gay] and Junior Mafia [saying that they were against her on the trial]. This is such a strong track because her lyrics are good and her flow is amazing. "Lighters Up" is the first single off the album and has a Jamaican flow to it. I like the song but I don't think it should have been the first single or in fact a single at all. It's still a great song where Kim tells everybody from everywhere to put their lighters up for her. "Shut Up B****" has Kimmie telling all the haters to cram it. She defnitely gets the message across as she shouts "get your facts straight or shut up b****!" I love this track and it was smart to put the song out during all the trial things she went through. "Whoa" is the second and final single from the album and this one is pretty good as well. It's more club oriented where Lil' Kim just gets things off her chest including some nasty words for her enemies. "Slippin" is the only track that I don't like on the album becuase the beats aren't that great and Kim doesn't bring the energy. "All Good" has Kim teaming up with mentor Biggie where he repeats the title of the song. This is a really good track since Kim talks about everything that's going on but in this one, she sounds like she doesn't care what they have to think about her instead of sounding extremely angry. This is demonstrated "you know you can't keep a good b**** down, it's all good." One of my favorite lines is "all these things haters do just to degrade ya, only made me stronger so thanks for the favor." "I Know You See Me" had to grow on me before I liked it but I do like this one now. It has Kimmie saying that even though everyone hates to admit it, there's only one Lil' Kim and she's a star. It has a good confidence vibe to it that is really catchy. "Quiet" is the rumored single from the re-release of The Naked Truth. This one also had to grow on me before I liked it but it's a pretty strong track. The Game drops in for the chorus while Kim calls people out on the verses such as Foxy Brown, 50 Cent and others. Things come to my favorite song: "Durty." Kimmie has the Jamaican vibe again but it sounds so much better here. It features Kim singing and rapping and she doesn't do that quite often. When she does, it's pure fire [like Can't F*** With Queen Bee from La Bella Mafia]. It has one of my favorites lines by her: "two piece bikini Fendi mink draggin on the floor/Kim been the first lady since I dropped Hardcore." She takes another stab at 50 Cent calling him "the hip-hop c**k" but if you think about it, he deserves it. I really wish this was a single but I guess it's not going to happen. We Don't Give A F*** is another one of my favorites since it sounds so different from the rest of the album. Kim takes a break from talking about all the haters and prison on this one to lay back and have some fun. Bun B. and Twista drop in for guest appearances and they don't take away from the action. I only wish Kim had a bit more time on the track. Kimmie then brings a triple helping of sexy on "Gimme That," "Kitty Box" and "Kronik." "Gimme That" is reminiscent of "Magic Stick" from La Bella Mafia but rapper 50 Cent is replaced with close friend Maino. It even has the same structure where the guy does the first verse, Kim does the second and both do the third. While it's no "Magic Stick," it still is a great track. "Kitty Box" is one of my favorites as it is more lay-back where Kim talks about her "kitty box" and how boys wanna play in it. The moaning at the end actually sounds like singing and is a nice way to end it. "Kronik" has Snoop Dogg dropping in for a little appearance. The first time I heard it, I loved it but I didn't hear Snoop doing anything. I then realized he was doing the chorus and he really doesn't provide anything here so he should have been left off the album. The first four lines are my favorite: "Tell you why I'm so d*** fly/ One hit of me and you'll be so d*** high/ Plus I got that hydroflow/ Come and get your head right n****." "Get Yours" has T.I. dropping in for a guest appearance and both rappers do pretty good on this one. I'm very impressed with this one. "Last Day" is Kim's most personal on the album where she talks about how nobody can take away how people scream her name or how she's critically acclaimed. I have to give Kim kudos for making the track but I don't really like it that much. It's very long with a huge skit at the end [which is 5:30] and I don't think it's the greatest. However, it was a good way to end the album.

Now that Kim is out of jail, she can focus on making an album that reflects Kim a little better instead of Kim on her way to jail. Hopefully she'll bring another La Bella Mafia because that album was a classic.

Anybody who pays attention to top 40 radio knows Sarah Hudson is a "Girl On the Verge" courtesy of the first single from this, her debut disc. But you won't get a clear sense of just how close she is until you wade through all 11 tracks.

Turns out things are pretty dire. She's "the next big thing in your little freak show" on "Strange"; confounded by innuendo on "I Know" ("I can't hold on forever/I know that you know I know"); and, most tellingly, mad as hell at her parents (she lets them have it on the confessional, guitar-crashing meltdown that is "Little").

Still, it's hard not to like her, or at least find her fun. Hudson is cool in a Hollywood kind of way--she's the cousin of actress Kate Hudson, and her look puts a fresh if not as sunny spin on Cyndi Lauper's celebrate-the-freak-within style. Naked Truth carries the potential to sprinkle her nascent star power over two distinct camps: rebel kids not willing to lump themselves in with Avril Lavigne's skateboard punks, and teen girls too cool to be tagged with the Hilary Duff-goody-two-shoes rap. While the world decides, we can all enjoy a single slice of near-perfect pop buried seven tracks in. "I want to find peace like Mahatma Gandhi/Wanna drink champagne and be cool like Blondie," Hudson sings quickly and convincingly on "Gandhi," voicing a naked truth for all of us. --Tammy La Gorce

Sarah Hudson has strong velvet vocals, and this is a crunching CD that can't be missed!

4 out of 5 stars great cd.......2007-04-24

i love this cd! the only song that i don't like is "fake rain." it seems very out of place on this cd, where its either kinda ranting at the world or poppy. it seems she attempted to do a love song or something and it fell flat.

i like her voice and i am looking forward to more cds from her. definitely a good buy!

5 out of 5 stars LOVES IT.......2007-01-22

AMAZING, FUN, IN YOUR FACE!
I love this girl, it's pop/rock/sarcastic and truthful. You can tell she knOws where she's been and where she's going and both don't seem to be gold plated but still seem to make her shine. The title track gets put on repeat, a lot! I also love the tounge in cheekness of Ghandi and the honesty of Strange. Buy it and play it LOUD!

4 out of 5 stars You can hate her--she doesn't care!.......2006-12-18

Sarah Hudson might not have garnered the accolade she deserved upon her debut album Naked Truth's release, but that's not because she lacks talent. On the contrary, this hardcore redheaded pseudo-punk rocker has quite a lot of it actually. From her bare-all lyrics in the title track (in which she claims, "You can hate me, but what do I care?" reassuringly enough you actually believe her) to her middle-of-the-line semi-irresistible beats, there's no denying this "girl on the verge" has some admirable abilities. Lead single "Girl On The Verge" is a guilty pleasure, combining electronic instrumentation with real instruments and an incredibly catchy guitar riff. "I might be all messed up and confused, but I still wouldn't want to be you," she says, and despite its suicide-minded opening lyric ("I'm having stupid suicial thoughts") this track is really all about realizing you're you and embracing yourself. "Naked Truth," like "Girl On The Verge," is a confessional pseudo-punk rock track that begins with an acoustic guitar strum that is instantly engaging; "You can hate me, but what do I care? Everything from the tatoo on my wrist to the color of my hair," Sarah snarls in the opening lines. Like the aforementioned "Girl On The Verge," "Naked Truth" discusses a not-so-happy childhood with the blame largely put on her parents ("I already forgive you, Mom and Dad, how could you know anyway?" she asks). The song is a great listen not only for its nice melody, but because of Hudson's honest lyrics (she co-writes, you see) and earnest vocal delivery--you actually believe what she's singing about (can Britney Spears say the same?). "Ghandi" is an interesting song with an even more interesting lyric, and once again the redhead delivers an impressive vocal performance. The remainder is well-produced filler, with a few iffy tracks here and there, but nothing nasty enough to drag Naked Truth down far. Overall, Sarah Hudson is one of the more believable pseudo-punk rock chicks in recent years and her impressive debut deserves more credit than it received.

3 out of 5 stars Forgettable, narcissistic teenage angst........2006-09-29

Sounds OK, but not worth the disk space on my computer or ipod. I don't mind listening to it, but I certainly wouldn't seek it out. Mediocre. Yadda yadda..

But sorry I dont think she'll even acknowledge you unless you got a lil white to go up in her nose. As for the album, it completely suck. How can she even put herself up there with BIG. Pac is the only rapper thats up there with Biggie. And then DRE is next. As for Kim i just hope for her sake they dont put her on probation after she gets out of prison cuz shell fail the drug tests.

5 out of 5 stars Hot.......2005-10-11

Lil Kim's Naked Truth is hot...the first like 12 tracks are good but then she starts to slack off at the end but it's still a solid piece of work. I'm not a big Rap fan but i could def. play the whole album through.
My favorite song is DURTTYYYYYY.

SHE DEFINITELY UP THE ANTE FOR FEMALE MC'S WITH HER FLOW ON THIS ALBUM. BUT SOME OF THE SONGS STILL FALL SHORT PARTICULARLY TOWARDS THE END OF THE ALBUM. OVER ALL THIS A BETTER OVERALL ALBUM THEN K.I.M. AND LA BALLA MAFIA. BUT IT'S A BETTER BUT THEN TONY YAYO OR YOUNG JEEZY ALBUM.

4 out of 5 stars Correctional Inspiration (4 Stars).......2005-09-29

Let me just jump in here before the nut riders and haters flood the scene.

Let me start by saying that I'm not even a Lil' Kim fan. I have all of her albums (all given to me by my brother), but I'm not a fan. Hell, I don't even like her other albums because of her weak rhyme skills. What I am is a realist that gives credit where it is due. The Naked Truth deserves most of the credit it gets (even though I'm thoroghly convinced that The Source needs to quit rating albums). The difference with this album can be directly attributed to Lil' Kim's pending incarceration and the fact that she plays to her strengths this time instead of trying to make an album full of party/club/pop hits (not to mention a noticable improvement in her lyrical skills). Tracks like "Slippin'", "All Good", and "Quiet" all have Kim speaking on her turmoil and severed ties with the Junior Mafia clique. There are still some club bangers on the album in the form of "Lighters Up", "Whoa", "Get Yours" feat. T.I. & Sha Dash, and "Spell Check" as well as a few others. "Last Day" is a nice track that features a rather long Lil' Kim conversation at the end of it. I have to commend Kim for standing on her own two this time around. Out of 21 joints, she only has guests on 5 of them. Plain and simple, the album is dope. Lil' Kim has stepped her lyrical game up and her production is more concrete than her past albums.

There are a few corny tracks on the album though. "Shut Up B*tch" has a decent topic, but the hook and the intro are kind of weak. Also, "I Know You See Me" isn't terrible, but it's skippable. If there are any wack tracks to be found, they would have to be "We Don't Give A F*ck" feat. Bun B & Twista and "Kitty Box". The former sounds kind of corny and forced and the hook to the latter is terrible. In my mind, a classic album doesn't have those kind of tracks. The album as a whole tends to lose focus toward the end. Also, it'd be great if Katt Williams would drop the Money Mike routine, it's not funny anymore. His appearance on this album is pretty much pointless. I mean, he's been trying to squeeze blood from that turnip for almost 3 years now. Move on.

Is this a classic album? Probably not, but good hype will always have fans/groupies and press making claims that don't always hold up a few years (or in some cases weeks) down the road. Only time will tell if this is classic, but if you ask me right now, I'd have to say no. The album takes a nosedive toward the end and it's really noticable. This much is apparent though, Kim has stepped her lyrical game up. No one will confuse her with B.I.G. anytime soon, but she's improved drastically. It would appear that rappers seem to put out their best work when they're faced with jail time. Kim is walking in the footsteps of Tupac, Beanie Sigel, C Bo, and many others in that respect. It's sad that it took these circumstances for her to drop a dope LP, but lets hope that she keeps up this pace when she gets out of prison. I reccomend checking this one out.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome CD.......2007-01-25

Wow, there aren't many CD's from any artist, even long established ones where I have LOVED every song and not gotten bored by the end of the CD.
This second CD from an up and coming Canadian artist is that rare exception. His voice is incredible... he has full vocal range but never squeally and uses all of his ranges on the various songs. The songs go from a few ballads to some all out rockers. There isn't a song on this CD that grates on your nerves and they all sound different from each other.
This is a CD to get and an artist to watch for.

5 out of 5 stars Acoustic live album.......2004-07-23

This is Golden Earring's 1997 acoustic live album recorded in the Cafe de Kroon in Amsterdam, and one of their most beloved and popular albums. While you may be skeptical of songs like Twilight Zone being performed unplugged, they really do a good job with them! I recommend the Complete Naked Truth, though. It comes with Naked II. And, as always, I have to recommend the Bloody Buccaneers album as well.

4 out of 5 stars Another reason why.......2001-12-10

Once again this tremendous overlooked (in the U.S.) band delivers. This is a hard driving live performance with the songs played true to form. And it's acoustic, which makes it even more amazing. One of rocks finest groups and it's a must have for Earring fans.

3 out of 5 stars Nice Unplugged Greatest Hits Album.......2001-09-28

This is a greatest hits ablum, done live at a Dutch radio station. It is "unplugged". It has drums and electric bass, but no electric lead guitar.

Golden Earring was never a great band, but they did have a number of fantastic songs. They also have a wealth of bad songs. This album is a mixture of good and bad songs. All the good songs are played great. Twilight Zone, Radar Love, Mad Love and Eight Miles High are all extended out to more than seven minutes and there are wonderful acoustic guitar solos. But, a number of the other songs are just bad no matter how they are played.

If you are any kind of fan of Golden Earring, this is a great album to get. If you only like the hits, you still might appreciate the versions done here.

Note that there is also a two CD version of this called Fully Naked, but I haven't seen it anywhere. Based on the track list, it doesn't look like this double CD version has anything special to add.

Golden Earring is a Dutch group that formed in 1961, playing pop music. The bassist and singer have been in the group from the beginning, but a number of different musicians came and went. In 1969, the group solidified with the current line up that has lasted over 30 years.

Golden Earring was never an original band. They copied other people's styles. In 1969, they were a lot like a British rock/blues/psychodelic band. They have one album where they do an 18 minute version of the Byrd's Eight Miles High. They moved more to straight rock. They had a monster hit with Radar Love, and then a mildler hit years later with Twilight Zone. Both songs were popular because of a driving bass rhythm. But, they have a number of albums with absolutely no good songs.

I bought this CD several years ago as a long time Golden Earring fan. It is one of my top ten albums of all time. Great from end to end. I loved it so much that I went to a European distributor and purchased the video for this concert. A must buy for any Earring fan! PS. This disk has not left my car disk changer except to play in my home player!

4 out of 5 stars Great versions of Radar Love and Twilight Zone.......2005-01-30

I was very impressed with what they did acoustically with Radar Love and Twilight Zone. Twilight Zone actually has some flamenco-style guitar in the middle. It sounds crazy, but it makes for a nice change if you're getting tired of the fantastic original studio version. The heavy bass used during Radar Love sounds great too. I was dissapointed with this version of Weekend Love, though. I was surprised that Long Blond Animal actually worked pretty well performed acoustically, but it'll always be an electric song. I personally prefer Fully Naked, since it includes wonderful versions of Yellow And Blue and As Long As The Wind Blows that are, in my opinion, better than the 1970 studio versions. All told, the acoustic albums are my least favorite of the live albums. While they have proved that they are great acoustically, I really prefer their live electric albums.

This is the band’s fourth release, Texas blues with plenty of hot sauce.

4 out of 5 stars Hadden Sayers melds songs & music is bizarre Texas twist.......2004-12-24

June 11, 2004
Artist: Hadden Sayers
Title: 12 Bars and the Naked Truth
Rating: Very Good

When Hadden Sayers rolls back into Omaha on June 23rd to play Murphy's Lounge (96th & L Streets) he'll be promoting one of the year's strongest independently distributed adult rock albums; 12 Bars and the Naked Truth.

Like so many significant "adult rock" artists (READ: fans are 35+), Sayers hails from the great state of Texas. On this, his fifth album, Sayers brings a ultra mature sound, distinctive from many of the Texas artists and very clearly not under the auspices of the late Stevie Ray Vaughan. After his last album's (Supersonic) edgy rock sound, Sayers has moved to a complete focus on the song and done it well. At a time when two good songs on an album has become a standard, Sayers has the skills to string together a full length album of well above average songs (a rarity in today's `thanks to technology we can make albums much, much longer than really necessary' recording industry.)

Do it for the passion. For me, today, what so many mature rock bands lack is commitment to passion: a willingness to lean into the storm and risk a bit of who they are, their control, in exchange for a well crafted song, a well performed song.

`12 Bars & the Naked Truth' finds Sayers singing on day-to-day live issues that many of his listeners will be able to relate to; that living in the moment is important to happiness (These are the Good Old Days) and dealing with folks you may rather not have had to deal with (Mister Know-It-All) "Why would you compromise when you're so wise?" "You better pray for rain, you don't know rain like I do."

Sayers sexy baritone vocals set off well against his tasteful guitar licks and rhythm section that plods along solidly. What's it sound like? Straight ahead Tom Petty coming from Texas rather than Florida.

In a possibly unconscious nod to great songwriters, like Ray Davies (Kinks) before him, Sayers sings of a Sunday afternoon but in this case the focus is on love gone awry. On the song `Complicated' Sayers lays out the average male mental gymnastics of dealing with the so-called more delicate sex. "I'm easy, so easy, you can read my mind with just one look into my eyes. I'm not brilliant or amazing; wear my heart on my sleeve but that's the kind of thing you're looking for... but you're so complicated it's blows my mind. You're so sophisticated I wonder why? I'm forgiveful, and forgetful..."

A consummate self marketer, Sayers delivers a complete entertainment package to his fans; exceptional songwriting, very strong live performances, high quality packaging & imaging, an informative website that is replete with options to interact with the pop star including downloads and merchandise.

So don't take my word for it, check out '12 Bars' on a listening station or go to www.HaddenSayers.com and listen for yourself. Sayers SHOULD be a part of your album collection's future. You'll love the passion.

5 out of 5 stars Acoustic Guitars Will Not Tame These Guys.......2007-06-13

The first "Live" Golden Earring that I was Lucky enough to hear was the band on a Bootleg LP, recorded in Germany 1969. Already, Stars in Europe for years, they had all the ingredients in place...THEY ROCKED!!!

After the Release of "Radar Love", I saw the Band, live at Winterland, San Francisco in 1974, they were Third on the Bill to 2 other groups I have since Forgotten about, Golden Earring had stolen the Show, Hands Down.

When the First Live Record came out in the Late Seventies, Punk Junk was at it's Peak and "Golden Earring Live" didn't Chart in the USA. It did really well in Europe, but America was not listening anymore, and that was a Shame, "live" is a GREAT Record from a GREAT Band.

With "Twilight Zone" all over MTV in 1984, Golden Earring was Back, bigger than ever. But, it wouldn't be until 1996 for another Live album to be Released and that was "The Naked Truth". It knocked my Socks Right off to hear the Band in all their Acoustic Glory! This Record COOKS from start to finish, it is just as Powerful as the Electric Band, George Kooymans is on FIRE, all the way through this recording. Playing Hard, Mean & Fast...this ain't no CS&N Concert! My favorite Versions of "Eight Miles High" and "Mad Love's Comin" are Right here, and not because they are 'Mild' acoustic "Un-Pulged" versions, BUT because they are the BEST Versions I have heard. The version of "Twilight Zone" featured here is also killer, there are not enough words to express just how good this one is, and this 'Expanded Edition' is the one to Buy. There are 7 more Tracks included on the Second Disk, and you need em' (Except for the Edited version of Radar Love, it's not essential).

This Band has more Fire & Energy than by most Groups who are out there and are Half the Age as these guys. This is Real Rock Performed by the Dutch Masters...FIVE STARS !!!

5 out of 5 stars Listen to once and you will buy more of Golden Earring.......2006-03-23

Golden Earring is fantastic. Listen to them just once and you will be hooked. I have several C.D's and have purchased the D.V.D's too and will continue to. They are not a band that you listen to once and are bored with, their sounds sticks with you for years. In the ratings....they are actually beyond the five that I was allowed to give them.

5 out of 5 stars Which Naked to buy??.......2004-11-29

The Naked Truth, Complete naked Truth and Fully Naked. Confused? Wondering which one to buy? Well, I prefer Fully Naked as it includes a few excellent versions of songs like Yellow And Blue and As Long As The Wind Blows that are better than studio. However, The Devil Made Me Do It included on Fully Naked (not the superior Naked II version) is pretty lousy. Unfortunately Fully Naked costs almost ten bucks more than The Complete Naked Truth. What to do? Well, I go for Fully Naked but only buy it if you're interested in the extra tracks, some of which are very good.

4 out of 5 stars Don't buy if you already got Naked truth and Naked II.......2000-12-10

Of course, Golden Earring are the best dutch rock group especially acoustic ( all the acoustic sessions for the 1st and second quarter of 2001 are already sold out!) they didn't need to do this. the first cd is exactly the same as the edition of 1991. the extra tracks cd is very dissapointing, if you already have golden earrings second acoustics album Naked II, since two of the tracks are of that album (When the Lady Smiles and Going to The run), an alternate version of Jangalene which isn't really alternate. And an edited version of the acoustic version of Radar Love and who - for crying out loud- would like to have a 7 minutes masterpiece cut down to mere 4 minutes? That only leaves the three other tracks: Back Home, Just A little Bit Of Peace In My Heart and Don't Stop The Show. as always these tracks are greatly performed with Don't Stop the Show showing that true Rock 'n roll can be totally transferred to acoustic.

If you haven't bought the naked truth, then buy this, you get a great acoustics cd and 5 extra tracks!

If you already bought the Naked truth, then don't buy this. 5 extra songs aren't worth 20 bucks.

in case you only bought Naked II and have decided to buy naked truth as well, take this one, you'll get three extra tracks that are worth your money.

4 out of 5 stars Fun album.......1999-05-24

This is a really good album, but Naked 2 is much better, with a selection that doesn't include their two US radioplay songs. You should really have both.

Ever have one of those lazy Saturday afternoons, where all you want to do is invite a few friends over, throw back some cold ones, and toss some horse shoes or your other favorite, lazy outdoor activity? Sure you have! This CD is perfect for the back ground music to those Saturday afternoon BBQ's. If you like Jimmy Buffett or Pat Dailey, you'll love Lou Marino. This is a must have for every college male, and bachelor!

5 out of 5 stars The Naked Truth.......2003-03-17

What a great insight Lou has on life and women. His music has a very upbeat quality. A pleasure to listen to over and over.

    5 out of 5 stars Lou Rules!.......2001-10-29

I picked up this cd at the recommendation of a friend and it was the best cd ever! what witty lyrics, fun music, and a great album cover! i recommend it to everyone who knows how to party!

5 out of 5 stars The Lighter Side of Life.......2001-09-19

In this debut recording, Lou sings about his experiences, whims and thoughts. Although the hits of the album revolve around his experiences sailing the Carribean and visiting various clothing-optional resorts, the introspective nature of songs such as "My Friends are Getting Older" and others reveal the inner thoughts of this exciting new artist. I look forward more fun and thoughtful albums from Mr. Marino and strongly recommend this debut effort.
