4 out of 5 stars Mostly Country love songs.......2007-06-18

Very enjoyable and nice mix of artists. Not entirely sure how Olivia Newton John's song, I Honestly Love You, made it on though. Was that "country" and I just missed it? I'd have given it a 5 if I didn't have to skip that song each time.

3 out of 5 stars VERY NICE.......2006-02-03

Wow The original artists for our wedding day love songs.
I also was glad to finally find on amazon
"A Song For My Son" for the mother groom dance and
"A Song For My Daughter" for our father bride dance.
I could get these songs as singles or on
The New Wedding Traditions Volume I CD
I heard samples at www.new-wedding-traditions.com
Thanks amazon.com

5 out of 5 stars Slow Dancing country style all the way!.......2000-06-26

Here is the CD that will definitely set the mood for romance, country style that is. What really amazes me on getting the CD, "Everlasting Love Songs" is simply this great compilation of country vocal reflections of various artists of the 90s, which is a much awaited and much needed collection at this turn of the millennium. Although I'm a well-rounded music listener and not to consider myself as a country buff, this 17 track collection of country love songs is so enjoyable to listen with that mellow touch feeling. If you have the Real Player installed in your PC, click and take advantage by listening some samples and you'll know what I mean.

After listening all the tracks, I firmly believe that country music is truly a genuine treasure that music lovers must take pride and this CD endorses that. With great artists like George Strait, Reba McEntire, Kathy Mattea, Vince Gill, Shania Twain, and Billy Ray Cyrus, this CD is worth the purchase for those who enjoy slow country music or for those who are not the country buff like me or for those who are new to this genre. So take pride and appreciate the talents of some of the great country artists of our times.

In closing, this CD is appraised for its great compilation of some of the great country love songs of the 1990s. To the producers, congratulations for a job well done.

Amazon.com essential recording

At the height of her creative and vocal abilities in the late '90s, CeCe Winans weighed in heavily with this marvelously accessible collection of R&B-styled contemporary gospel. From the bouncy groove of "Well, Alright" to the vinyl-like crackle of "I Am" to the superb breakbeat spiritual of the Lauryn Hill-penned and -produced "On That Day," Winans has carved the keys to a city in which both the sacred and secular populations can dance. Twice given the Dove Award for Female Vocalist of the Year, Winans's voice has a supple and immediate strength without the histrionics of Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey. This is not only an important career record, but a gem that stands up against most any contemporary R&B. --Paige La Grone

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Well, Alright!.......2004-04-16

I've had this cd since it was first released and it is still as poignant now as it was then. That's the great thing about CeCe's music; it never grows old or tired. "Well, Alright" is easily the standout track on this cd and one of my personal favorites. Other highlights include, "What About You", "Everlasting Love", "Come on Back Home", "Just Come" and "On That Day" (w/Lauryn Hill in the background).
Let me not forget, "The Wind"...a beautiful song I've heard somewhere before, I think by a country singer. Nonetheless, it's great with CeCe's vocals as well. If you're tired of the contemporary gospel artists who try too hard to appeal to the younger demographic, pick up this cd, you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Everlasting Love (by: CeCe Winans).......2004-04-12

This release quickly became one of my all-time favorites, and to date is the only recording I have ever recommended! There's such a rich mixture of smooth and upbeat melodies, all with lyrics that are inspirational and provoke serious soul searching. Add to that, the fact that CeCe sings with such feeling that it adds a depth and warmth that's unique. And to top that off, she gives you several more than the customary number of tracks, enhancing the overall purchase value. This is a rare find. Obtain it for yourself, and be blessed!

3 out of 5 stars Not what I was looking for........2007-01-13

I was looking for a song which does not seem to be on any of Kim Burrells' recordings. However, in spite of my disappointment, I found the CD easy to listen to, and I enjoy Kim Burrells' style of singing. Her voice is tremendous.

5 out of 5 stars I Can't Stop Playing This Album!.......2006-02-25

I think about buying other albums but end up changing my mind because I haven't *quite* played this one out yet. Buying anything else right now would be pointless because I'll just end up putting it to the side while I listen to "Everlasting Life" non-stop. Every song! From "Over and Over, Again" to "Holy Ghost" to "I Come To You More Than I Give" to "I'll Keep Holding On"...I'm only disappointed that I didn't buy it sooner. People tried to tell me how BAD she was, but I had no idea. Her tone, the lyrics, the band, her RUNS - the whole CD is so inspiring, especially for me being a singer. Someone lent me "Live in Concert" before I got this one - a good CD, but not nearly as impressive as EL. Kim Burrell has a new fanatic! Thank God for her and her amazing talent.

5 out of 5 stars 1 voice + 1 sound= 2 anointed.......2006-01-24

When you have to rewind parts of the song several times to get ONE riff, somebody is doing something. This project is one of my favorites. Surprisingly, the shortest song "Oh Lord" is my favorite. It's just me, Jehovah, and Kim all in my room lol Though people may try (I know I do lol), no one can touch Kim. I recommend this CD to anybody :)

5 out of 5 stars A Star on the Rize.......2005-11-15

Let me start off by saying that there are very few artists (secular or gospel) who can hold a candle to Ms. Kim Burrell...Oh my goodness! This lady has some rips and runs and can do all kinds of things with her voice that will make you tremble and weep!
I love the renditions she does on here. If you like jazz, mixed with worship and praise, this is a winner. If you want to bump and grind, look for another CD! :)
She's been out for a few years, but I think she is one of the mose under-rated artists today. But not to worry, I have a feeling, that her new album (through Sony music I believe) is going to catapult her into the lime light where she deserves to be. She came to town last year, and she is as gracious as she is talented.
In my mind, I can just see all the other female vocalists lined up to go against her and she is like doing her nails and hitting all kinds of notes and keys and they try one by one to follow her, but cant (LOL!!!)
Hold on Kim, you are a STAR and the world is in need of your gifted talent!

5 out of 5 stars Best album!.......2005-10-26

Best album ever! Gospel goes to new level with Kim Burrell and producer Asaph Ward. Uniq mix of gospel, jazz, r&b and funk. Kim is awesome singer! Nobody can do runs like her (expect Karen Clark-Sheard, but Karen don't have killer cd)! Songs, arrangements and instrumentation are class a+!

You might not expect this kind of music from someone who composes soundtracks for the Christian Broadcasting Network, but on his own, Ryan Farish creates a cinematically sweeping, chilled electronica. After drifting toward a saccharine sweetness on his last CD, From the Sky, the multi-instrumentalist has raised the energy level and rhythm intensity on Everlasting, laying down an aggressive bottom with live drums, bass, and even breakbeats that recharge his electronica-based grooves. Songs like "Mercy Follows" are almost danceable. But Farish is a melodicist at heart, and that still dominates his simple but evocative compositions, played mostly on piano and surrounded in a swirled palette of sampled flutes, synthesizer squiggles, and percussive colors. Farish has an over-reliance on samples that can give his music a generic feel, but he also has some distinctive voices, like the cross between a violin and a Chinese sho that blows through "We Are Free" and "Dedicated" like a banshee wind through high mountains. Like labelmate Amethystium, Ryan Farish doesn't take the kind of emotional or musical chances that would make this profound, remaining content to stake out a lighter, more melodically uplifting brand of electronica. --John Diliberto

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Pure pleasure, a musical keepsake.......2007-04-28

"Everlasting" is a complete pleasure to my senses, from first track to last. From the dulcet rhythms of "Together We Will Conquer", to the breathtaking beauty of "Everlasting Light", the diversity of sound on this CD keep it a regular in my CD player nearly a year after its release. "Mercy Follows" and "Breakthrough" make me move with their danceable beats, while "Deep" leaves me swaying in an ethereal dreamland of electronic splendor. "Wildflower" and "We Are Free" and "Young At Heart" prove to live up to Ryan's wonderful, uplifting style. "Sing To You", "Time Between Us" and "Dedicated" stand out as examples of how a true talent like Ryan Farish can make electronic music sound heartwarming, romantic, and inspirational like no one else in the business!

Anyone who purchased "Beautiful" must own "Everlasting". It is a keepsake of the evolution of a new style of music that Ryan Farish is taking to the top, a style that's really all his own.

5 out of 5 stars SEDUCE YOUR EARS TODAY!!!.......2007-04-24

Having been a fan of Ryan Farish's works I waited with baited breath for this cd to come out and boy was I not surprised or disappointed in fact Ryan has outdone himself yet again on this cd!! Beautiful uplifting tunes with a mutitude of instruments all played by Ryan himself and then mixed stands him apart then most in his genre!! Ryan has introduced beautiful vocals onto this latest cd and they also are not short of amazing.

No matter my mood or what I am doing be it working driving or just chilling out Ryan's music is a staple for me!! I encourage you to take a listen for yourself before you base your opinion on anyone's but your own!! You won't be disappointed once you hear it for yourself!! I would give more stars but this is not an option.Everlasting

1 out of 5 stars Good Melodies, bad rhythm.......2007-01-02

Like so many new-age artists, Ryan Farish has a great ear for melodies. Unlike most new-age artists, Ryan Farish has rhythmic problems. He likes to use the delay effect on his piano, but either it is not sycronized with the tempo of the song or he is simply being too sloppy with his playing (sometimes it's one problem and sometimes it's both). I don't know how he let those takes make it on to the final album. Also, the massively loud reverse cymbal sounds are way overused and make the entire album very abrasive very quickly.

3 out of 5 stars Different from his other work, yet the same.......2006-11-10

As an owner of two of Farish's previous CDs, I was looking forward to "Everlasting", and it doesn't disappoint. The Amazon review further up the page says it all, pretty much. It is different from those previous works. However it is still the same Farish sound, with the one-finger piano work and the other sounds recognizable from previous CDs. I would have given it more stars but there aren't any songs that catch me like on the previous CDs. I know that makes my rating more subjective than usual, but...oh well. This one is a worthy addition to the Farish collection and I look forward to his next!

Nottingham's Bent are like the funny uncle of the chill-out world--scruffy, eccentric, often embarrassing, but lovable all the same. The Everlasting Blink, the duo's second album, is like a similarly oddball relative; interestingly strange, but not the kind of thing you'd want to live with for any length of time. It's every bit as beautiful as the likes of Lemon Jelly and Zero 7, but with a roughness and fuzziness that makes it impossible to dislike.

In Bent's world, smooth grooves and multicolored soundscapes are replaced by dodgy samples from cheesy thrift-store records, crisp beats, and cheap ambient synth sounds. Their debut album, 2001's Programmed to Love, took this spiky cut-and-paste approach to extremes, with intensely laidback cuts next to odd electronic work-outs. On the other hand, The Everlasting Blink is a much smoother proposition--just as silly and cheesy, but with altogether better production and less freaky weird-outs. It's full of glimmering trinkets of sonic loveliness; gems such as the poppy "Beautiful Otherness" (featuring the Beloved's Jon Marsh on vocals); lead single "Magic Love"; semi-acoustic country sing-a-longs and quirky electronic interludes. For those who've already fallen in love with Bent, this is nothing new; for those yet to convert, it should be a revelation. --Matt Anniss

3 out of 5 stars Hoping for more: more of the same..........2005-05-02

After having loved their debut "Programmed to Love", I was somewhat dissapointed at Bent's "Everlasting Blink". While not a bad album, I found it to be more of the same. Still, had it not been for the self-indulgent 22-minute long closing track, which consisted of one LOOOOOONG and unnecessary 9-minute-some long chunk of nothing more than silence, this could have been a four-star album. I just simply lost interest in it a halfway through it.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD!.......2004-04-16

I really like Bent although I don't know much history about them. The first song I ever heard of theirs was a cut called "Good Bloke" back in 2000 on a compilation called "The Chillout Room vol. 2". Then in 2001, MOS released tons of chillout comps and featured remixes and originals from Bent's "Programmed to Love" which I also really enjoyed. Finally in 2003, they came out with this one.

I don't really want to say which is better - they both have a unique sort of style. Bent focuses on electrical chords and in some ways, old school rythms. This one to me is a very suitable pick-up from where the first cd left off and moves the band a notch forward with their sound. You pop in "Strictly Bongo", and let it play and you're taken to the early 80's, late 70's until the end loop... a pure English vibe... and it's so nostalgic to me. Probably my favorite small loop in a song. And what's a Bent CD without some strange head-scratching "huh?" moments... like when the vocals for "So Long Without You" kicks up a notch? Oddly, it's acceptable because the group is Bent! And for anyone that's a Keen Eddie fan, there's a scene where Detective Pepin (the dude that was in the movie "The Saint" as a student) sits alone in a bar contemplating if not being "tied down" is so great after all. The music playing is from this cd - "Beautiful Otherness" is the song.

I highly recommend this. I've enjoyed it a great deal and it gets regular play in my collection. It won't make you forget Programmed to Love, it just sort of continues on with a more modern sound and different influences. It's got a tripped out feel that'll take you to another place and interesting electronic touches and great sounds in the ways that are typical "Bent". They manage to stay fresh without going too far away from what makes them who they are. And if you enjoy this, I would recommend music from lemonjelly.ky, Kinobe, The Dining Rooms, Leftfield and FC Kahuna.

4 out of 5 stars Worthy follow-up.......2004-02-05

While "Programmed" had a retro feel, "Blink" is decidedly more modern, eclectic, post-techno, or whatever the terminology is. Electronica is wonderfully suited for blending with R&B/soul (think Zero 7 or Royksopp), and Bent has one nailed with "Strictly Bongo". This is followed by "Beautiful Otherness" which is a classic, and has one of the most catchy baselines ever. The next 7 tracks vary in style enormously. Hard to believe a man with a mullet could produce such artsy music.

Bent is one of the most original bands on the planet, to be placed on Olympus alongside the Pixies, Boards of Canada, and Lemon Jelly.

4 out of 5 stars 'thick ear' - the irony!.......2004-02-03

while i agree with most of the comments others made about this album, the near-universal dislike of the circus-like atmosphere of the closer, "thick ear," strikes me as quite hilarious. perhaps the tune is aptly named, as doctors bent likely understood, while brilliant as the track is, that genius would more times than not fall of deaf ears. seems to me that some folks need to visit the "music therapy" wing of "the bent home for the tediously sane," as advertised on their website.

4 out of 5 stars Better than I thought, nine minute silence is forgiven!!.......2004-01-09

This is a good album that is almost as good as their first FIVE STAR rating album: It is more upbeat than their first album "Programmed to Love" which is excellent, although it does have a more 'canned' sound. That is to say the beat boxes and other tape-looped sounds are out front and obvious. Granted, one knows this is the output of a duet and recognizes that not all instruments on the album will be, well, instruments, but these sound effects don't work quite as well as they did on the first. 2) The music while perhaps as multi-layered as on the first album is not as full on and has a sound more like something from an eurovision contest or at times from something out of an episode of Dr. Who albeit not often. It is more upbeat, light and airy too, Okay, okay, it's fey, but good fey. For instance, I think I heard a theramin on one track and there is definitely a pedal steel/slack guitar sound on another or two. Bent have also seem to have pulled samples from their previous album and incorporated them into new songs, usually as opening lines. This is cute and playful, and even inventive, but can be cloying because it causes one to wonder if one is listening to a parody. Which brings me to issue 3) The 9 minute silence that occurs 3 minutes into the song 'Thick Ear' (which itself is reference to a one minute silence on the early album) is an faux pas excusable only because it warns one to stop the play before the last few minutes of truly obnoxious 'play' (raucous phone ring from different speakers, chatter and intermitent sound bits, etc.). Having got that off my chest, there is some really good stuff on this album and a buyer of this CD will not regret it. Listen to the samples and if they sound right, the album will probably get you off. In my opinion, this particular album doesn't deserve the five stars their first major label effort 'Programmed To Love' does. This'll stay on the play list for a couple of weeks (months?) and then one of you lot will be buying it here on amazon but then again as I listen to it more and more, perhaps it is a keeper thus the 4 stars.

2 out of 5 stars An okay album.......2007-01-09

Sorry, but I have to disagree with most of the reviewers on this disc. I love Vanessa Williams, and I especially loved her "Sweetest Days" album (my favorite of hers), but this one is just okay.

I bought this about a year ago, and just got around to opening it and putting it in my disc player for my alarm (I had Luther in there for a long time). I can barely keep my eyes open when this music comes on, because it is so tepid. She has a great voice, but she interjects absolutely no emotion into these songs. It irks me, because it could have been so much better than it is. She picked great songs to cover, but they are songs that need life breathed into them, not songs that should just be song note for note, which is pretty much what is going on here.

5 out of 5 stars If Vanessa was a verb..........2006-03-15

... It would be one to express how good this album is!!! I'm a huge fan of this lady, not because she is beutiful and stuff like that (I'm a woman too. So I prefers boys), but because she sings like an angel!!! And I was expecting a new album for so long when she released this one... What I did not expect was the inteligent choices for songs. Til this day I can't even choose my fave ones, cause I loved the whole album.

She put some class and some new sounds to well known and aproved music. Really great!!! Many artists are doing this revival albuns, and this one I would recomend to people that are embracing this wave. Vanessa put her classy stile to this, and made the music sound new, cool and good to hear whatever the moment.

5 out of 5 stars Very good @}->---.......2006-01-23

I don't usually like cover albums where people often end up hashing classic hits. This however is very different because there is no way that Vanessa Williams, with her beautifully smooth voice could ruin a former hit. These are sung with warmth and soul and she does an excellent job. The only song I don't like is With You I'm Born Again - but then again, it's the song, not her. Every other song on here is fantastic and I really recommend this to anyone who seeks a bit of nostalgia, and well done remakes of old school, classic music. PS. Isn't she stunning?

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST COVER CD.......2005-12-10

This is the best cd of "covers" I have ever heard, and I have quite a few now. The feeling she conveys in each song lets you know these are some of her favorites, and her range is unbeatable. So good, I bought 2 copies, just in case someone "borrows" one!

4 out of 5 stars Everlasting Love - actually 4.5 stars.......2005-12-03

The thing that I love about cover discs is the chance to hear a new spin on familiar songs by different artists. I'm so glad that Vanessa hasn't been pushed out of the record biz and feel that this collection is one of the best that I purchased this year! As a fan of her previous discs, I know that Vanessa is a classy singer who successfully mixes r&b with jazz giving her music a unique sound (her vocal phrasing is also consistent and a hallmark of her work).

Now when I saw the track list, 3 songs immediately jumped out to me: THE FIRST TIME EVER I SAW YOUR FACE, EVERLASTING LOVE & WITH YOU I'M BORN AGAIN. These are not only three of my favorite songs of all time but were performed by women who I frankly, didn't think Vanessa could touch (ie compete with) vocally: Roberta Flack, Chaka Khan & Syreeta Wright.

The addition of instruments on TFTEISYF make the song sound richer than the spare masterpiece original; Vanessa's duet of WYIBA with George Benson is faithful to the original and of course, Vanessa doesn't have the soaring soprano vocals of Syreeta, but she definitely sounds great on this track. Finally, the cover of EL is AMAZING - I don't think that many female vocalists can outdo Chaka but Vanessa put her foot down on this one and sounds terrific! The arrangement & her vocals rival the original. These are definitely 3 of my favorite tracks on the disc.

Other standouts are: MIDNIGHT BLUE, NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE, LET'S LOVE, SHOW & TELL & I'LL BE GOOD TO YOU. The bonus track, TODAY & FOREVER is based on a poem written to Vanessa from her ex and it is a poignant tune in which she is truly expressing a desire for them to work to put their marriage back together.

I also enjoyed the jazzed up versions of HARVEST FOR THE WORLD & SEND ONE YOUR LOVE.

Bravo, Vanessa for producing such an enjoyable collection of music while going through a painful split.

5 out of 5 stars first album luck.......2003-07-19

Erik "everlast" Schrody came out with a debut album in aapril 20 1990.He didn't get much luck from it though, but the album did have some good songs for a first Cd such as "I got the knack" and the angry rhym "F--k every one." Nearly 9 years later,in late 1998 he came out with the grammy award winning album titled "Whitey Ford Sings The Blues" with soft blues-rock songs on it such as "what it's like" and "ends" also he had hard-core rap songs such as "tired" and "money (dolla bill w/ sadat-x)"and also his blues rap songs like "death comes callin." two years later in 2000 he came out with another CD intitled "eat at whiteys." With a remake of "childrens Story" and the hit spng "black jesus." He is now working on yet another album

2 out of 5 stars Not the best from Everlast.......2000-10-07

I bought this CD about 4 months ago and I thought it wouldn't be as great as his newer CDs since he was only like 18 years old when he made this CD. But the CD sucked, I mean, it's not the worst but it's not worth [the money]. I LOVE Everlast and I had to buy this CD just to hear how he was. Personally I think it's not worth buying. He doesn't have the deep voice, cool beat, or any of that stuff in this CD. It's all fast, high pitched, and not to rappy.

5 out of 5 stars Just a good album.......2005-02-19

I was introduced to this album when I was about 12 or so....I've been looking for it for such a while now...It's my favorite by N.C. The track that brings back such fond memories is "When I Fall In Love"....OMG....The version on the Stardust album is NO MATCH for this song.....

5 out of 5 stars Natalie's best album to me! .......2004-09-19

I still say that Everlasting is Natalie Cole's best album. It shows her at her highest form long before the Unforgettable mega success and multiple Grammys. I still like the aggressive Jump Start. For starters, it could summarize what she had gone through in her hiatus, what with the substance problems she had before, just a jump start on her life back in 1987. Other songs I like are The Urge to Merge, In My Reality, Split Decision and I'm the One, I Live For Your Love as well as her reading of When I Fall in Love. I still love her version of Pink Cadillac, though they made a remix of it in 1988 that should have been on the album. But this is a very superb album with an emphasis on a live band on most of the songs. I have played this album the most out of Natalie's albums. Her finest and best collection to date!

5 out of 5 stars Natalie Cole Everlasting.......2004-07-09

Natalie Cole's 1987 Album Everlasting is an important album, because it marked her long awaited Comeback as well as her completed Pop-Rock Crossover. My Favorite to Least Favorite of these songs are Jump Start My Heart,The Urge To Merge, the Remake of Bruce Springsteen's Pink Cadillac,In My Reality,I Live For Your Love,What I Must Do,More Than The Stars,Everlasting, the Solo Remake of her father the late Nat King Cole's When I Fall In Love,Split Decision, and I'm The One.

5 out of 5 stars Nice album.......2001-10-30

This album does have a nice mix of songs. This is definately classic Natalie. My favorites are mostly the hits (Jump Start, I Live For Your Love, & Pink Cadillac). But my very favorite is "Jump Start". It is one of the catchiest and best R&B songs that you will probably ever hear! And it has this groove that is undeniable. The song is like 14-15 years old, and has dated only the tiniest bit. "I Live For Your Love" is a powerful ballad, and "Pink Cadillac" was the big hit off of here. These songs are songs that you listen to on a nice spring or summer afternoon. The other songs on here dont live up to the standards of the three main songs, but are good anyway. If you are looking for one of Natalies best albums, this ranks up there with "Unforgettable"!!!

5 out of 5 stars Best music from Natalie in years........1999-05-28

Everlasting reminds the listener of the power and range Natalie showed on her first album. From the modern day groove of 'Jump start', to the slow tempo of 'When I Fall in Love', she sells each song as if it were her last. This CD is a most have for any true Natalie Cole fan.

A mix of songs and sketches, 1951's Two on the Aisle belongs to the much maligned revue genre. Aficionados of integrated musicals often turn up their noses at this kind of show, but when the songs are composed by Jule Styne, written by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, and sung by Dolores Gray, you'd be a fool to be a snob. Gray may be half-forgotten by all but hardcore fans these days, but she was one of Broadway's most compelling leading ladies in the 1950s and 1960s (you can get a glimpse of her fabulousness in Vincente Minnelli's film Designing Woman.) Here, she gets five solos, and she shines on all of them. This recording may be the best introduction to her singular genius. Gray also teams up with Bert Lahr, not much of a singer but a comedian with deadly timing, which is good enough for hilarious numbers like "Catch Our Act at the Met," in which Donizetti follows Don Ameche and Met rhymes with Rigolett'. This is a most welcome reissue. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

    Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars There's No Show & No Play: Just Bert Lahr & Dolores Grey.......2004-10-20

A forgotten revue that played a half-season on Broadway. Even at the time it was pleasant though unsensational entertainment. The recording has long been out-of-print and has never generated the same demand as other forgotten flops. Without the comic sketches which were the show's high points, the album is curiously flat, and contains a great deal of filler. "Everlasting" has to be one of the most boring love songs ever written for the Broadway stage. Grey shines in her big number "If You hadn't But You Did" and shares the spotlight with Lahr for "Vaudeville ain't dead/Catch our act at the Met."

It should be said that the music is far from jule Styne's best and Comden and Green's lyrics are nothing special.

3 out of 5 stars average score, average recording.......2003-07-09

Decca Broadway have brought back into the light another of those fabulous musical rareties, TWO ON THE AISLE. Grab this recording if only for the sublime performance of Dolores Gray.

Yes, Dolores Gray is the only real reason you should buy this cast-album. Her songs are fantastic, with her wit and high-wattage talent easily evident in numbers like "There Was Never a Baby Like My Baby", "Hold Me, Hold Me, Hold Me (Hold Me Tight)", and her 2 show-stoppers "How Will He Know?" and "If".

Bert Lahr STILL sounds like the Cowardly Lion from THE WIZARD OF OZ, and his numbers are comical if nothing else. I particularly enjoyed his "The Clown", but, like another reviewer has said, he just doesn't come off well in recordings.

The score, by Betty Comden, Adolph Green and Jule Styne, is average if anything. Decca Broadway's remastering of this album is quite patchy, with quite a bit of hiss and excessive surface-noise. During Gray's "How Will He Know?" there is quite a bit of hiss in evidence.

However, die-hard Broadway fans will get a kick out of listening to Dolores Gray's 'summer-of-1951 hit.

4 out of 5 stars A FORGOTTEN MUSICAL THAT DESERVES TO BE REDISCOVERED.......2003-02-09

"Two on the Aisle" was the first show Betty Comden, Adolph Green and Jule Styne wrote together, and it is a humdinger! The show, first presented in 1951, is actually a revue with some of the most memorable songs the trio ever wrote. Starring Bert Lahr and Dolores Grey, it has forgotten gems that will make you laugh out loud. This was the last of the star-powered extravaganzas such as Ziegfeld used to produce with lavish spectacle, enormous choruses and sets that went for for days, if not weeks. Still, the quality of the music and lyrics cannot be overlooked. The show has pretty much fallen into complete obscurity, but anyone with a love for musicals and respect for the revue form will greatly enjoy listening to it over and over again. (Submitted by staff member Stephen J. Finn)

    2 out of 5 stars Yawn.......2003-02-01

Absolutely tedious. Hardly any songs of even passing merit--this is Styne at his most generic. Worse, Bert Lahr hardly appears; this is very much the Dolores Gray show, and who wants that? Lahr's one number is indeed entertaining, but not worth the cost of the disc.

4 out of 5 stars A worthy addition to your collection.......2002-02-23

One of the last and best revues. Bert Lahr and Delores Grey are in fine form. Comden and Green's lyrics (especially their reviews of the other shows on Bway) are particularly sharp. Not my favorite CD, but a worthy addition to my collection.
