5 out of 5 stars Bringin the essence back to Hip Hop.......2006-08-24

4 out of 5 stars 9TH BRINGS THE BEST OUT OF PEOPLE.......2006-06-05

i bought this joint on the strength that it was produced by 9th wonder, and wasn't disappointed at all.kaze exhibits what the south has to offer lyricaly, but gets overlooked & overshadowed by crunk and the rest of that nonsense.kaze talks about more than diamonds and candypaint, his words have substance.subjects range from dealing with shady women to his deceased mother.only drawback to this album is that it's mad short plus it has like 3 versions to "soul dojo". if you want a break from the mainstream go copp this.

5 out of 5 stars Sleeper................2006-02-04

This album is really great. It has the deep- meaningful lyrics you have come to expect from Justus League and some dope beats from 9th Wonder. This guy "Kaze" is great on the mic. I never heard of this guy. Best believe I will be keeping an eye out for his next CD. This is just a fantastic CD to listen to when you get tired of the radio flavored emcees. the soulful production and lyrics make this a perfect Cd to purchase.

5 out of 5 stars This album is hot!!.......2005-11-25

After getting hold of the Little Brother albums, Murs's 3:16, and the Buckshot and 9th Wonder album, i really fell in love with 9THs skills. This album is now my favorite out of the lot, and all of them are superb...

The reason this 1 sits at the top of my pedi stool is Kaze. This guy can spit fire, yet keep his lyrical content inspirational and spiritual. His word play and flow can be stunning at times. Put this together with some of the best beats and sampling 9th has come out with, and you have an album worthy of any hip hop library. From the heartfilled and soulful "Should've Been Here", to the base filled, head knocking "Stay a Customer", Kaze and 9th pump liquid ear candy that would get any true hip hop lover wet.

After truly despising the MTV money grown M.C's like 50 on heavy radio and T.V rotation, it truly keeps my faith in Hip Hop when finding diamonds in the rough like this. Who said Hip Hop is getting old.....

5 out of 5 stars Kaze and 9th keep it real.......2005-11-04

9th Wonder is the best producer and Kaze is a true-spoken cat from Chapel Hill. This album slaps and represents real hip-hop.

5 out of 5 stars Lyricism.......2007-05-06

Definitely one of my number one albums ever. The best group I've ever seen perform live and lyrically....please, just listen to hellohihey, who think of something like that and put it into words??? By far the greatest track on the album is "Me," if you haven't heard this album or even heard of the group, it would be well worth the money to buy this album. If you like what plays on the radio, you won't like this album, but if you like political and positive hip hop, this is as good as it gets. Fa Show

4 out of 5 stars Impressive verbiage.......2007-02-12

I found this album after hearing a remarkable song on the radio one day. Several lines lept out at me, and after googling "bittersweet is the compassion of a psychopath," I found the lyrics "Livin Times" from this album.

Over better-than-average beats, I found a mind-boggling density of concepts that makes the most of hip-hop as an artistic medium. Sure, you could just talk fast, or repeat the same thing over and over (What? Okay!). But you could really express your identity and worldview - if you have one.

The writing tickles the same fancy that makes reading a very literate book so much fun. But unlike Lolita, I can dance to this.

Overall, the album is a little hit & miss for my personal taste, which probably means that some but not all of the songs will appeal to a wide range of people. Individual tracks can be bought - they're on e music. And best of all, there's a new lifesavas album out in April so look for that!

4 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars good album could have been better.......2005-09-27

I had high expectations for this album maybe they were a little to high so maybe im the wrong person to review this album. I was impressed by about half of the album most of the beats were dope but where this album really excells is the lyrics. This joint has some seriously hot lyrics but only about half of the beats are what I would consider def so after about the first couple of great tracks you start to hear some really corny stuff then some great songs and then the corny songs sort of creep up on you again this pattern continues throughout the album making it an inconsistent listen but still I enjoyed this album like ive enjoyed all of quannums projects these are people who put thought time and energy into their music and are not concerned about making a quick buck but are more concerned with releasing a quality product. I hope that their next album will be a little more consistent.

4 out of 5 stars The best REAL Hip Hop album of 2003!.......2005-04-07

This is what Hip Hop is all about. Lyrical Challenges, B-boyism, Political messages, and even comedy! Vursatyl and Jumbo (the garbageman) clean up the trash with the best lyrics on any coast since "Blazing Arrow" in 2002. In addition, Portland's unique and diverse style of beats are represented well on "Spirit in Stone". This album is appreciated by hip hop heads of every style because there is undeniable talent here. You have that talent, with the real life messages (Resist, reminincent of Bob Marley's Stand up for your rights"), add influences of Gospel, Reggae, blues, R&B over some tight beats and you have "Spirit in Stone"! In the end, even the Lifesavas can't save lives when the competiton is left dead!

4 out of 5 stars Criminally Slept-On - 4 Stars.......2005-03-18

Upon popping "Spirit In Stone" into my system, I was immediately taken back: Hard, snappy funk with boisterous rhyme schemes and a prevailing conscious theme. I shouldn't have been surprised. After all, this is what fans have come to expect of Quannum Projects. But even as a devout fan of Blackalicoius and Latyrx, I never really bothered to check out that "other" group on the label, the rookie emcees-slash-producers from Portland, Oregon, known as the Lifesavas. Sure they dropped a dope single way back in 2001 ("Head Exercise" b/w "Clutch Moments"), but could they actually hold down an entire album? The answer is a resounding yes. The trio of Vursatyl, Jumbo the Garbageman, and Rev. SHINES bring a rock solid package of insight ("What If It's True?" "Me"), spirituality ("Livin' Time"), dance grooves ("Fever," "Fa' Show"), and battle riffs ("Selector" "Emerge") with lyrics that make you think ("the White Man didn't pull the trigger, and take it too far/And the White Man ain't going to jail, niqqa YOU are") as well as laugh ("Have ultra-sound doctors bug your fetus, believe it.") Equally satisfying is the revolutionary overtones of the three-song set "State of the World/Apocalypse-War/Resist," where Vursatyl castigates the American government ("the CIA trained the crash pilots"), and calls on listeners to fight the status quo ("Resist! Are you an actor or an activist?") As emcees, Vursatyl and Jumbo both lack the charisma that would warrant a 5-Star rating, however, there's little else to criticize about this album. Stop sleepin' on Quannum's newfound talent and cop "Spirit In Stone" today.

A diverse collection of songs touching all the genres of hip hop; bridging the gap between mainstream and underground. All songs are written and produced by the artist. The untapped North Carolina sound is a refreshing alternative to the “bling, bling” climate of popular rap music.

    Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Good flow wack beats..........2006-11-08

This CD sounds like it was made on my little sisters keyboard. Kaze can flow, I'll give him that, but what about the beats man?!?!?! THE BEATS!!!! Save your cash for some Little Brother or somethin', if your into the NC scene.

4 out of 5 stars From the heart........2006-01-03

Great album. Strong raps, with a lot of positive content and bangin beats, with a nice electronic flavour.

You probably haven't heard much from North Carolina (I haven't) but I dug the accent and the obvious difference to the more mainstream and exposed sounds from the East & West Coast.

A must have for the afficionado and/or anyone after something with that edge.

    Get into it.

It has a variety of musical genres including Hip-Hop, Techno, Reggae, and Miami Bass. I commend this guy for speaking his mind and coming from his heart...

Bottom Heavy White Trash Gangsta Trance is a collection of thoughtfully composed electronic music, which is focused on a beautiful hybrid of trance and breakbeats, with an underlying groove sound that is immersed in the sound of the analog synthesizer. The result is a sound more interesting and innovative than trance or breakbeat science alone. Definitely recommended.

    5 out of 5 stars Adeem + Shalem = Dope Album.......2006-01-06

How could I possibly be the first to review this album? Adeem delivers on a multitude of levels. Of course, being a 2-time Scribble Jam battle winner, he is quite skilled on the microphone. In addition to spitting some of the quickest rhymes known to man, he's got to be one of the most intelligent guys to ever pick up a mic. He's also an alluring poet. Like his battle repertoire, Adeem forms a diss in a unique fashion. He never stoops to the level of spitting immature jokes like his counterparts. And he never seems to run out of ammo. Shalem (aka DJ MF Shalem) delivers quality beats with the best of them. Since their collaboration on Adeem's debut album "First Few Inches" (1999, cassette only release, out of print), Shalem has continued to grow nicely. His style includes a ton of breaks, funky loops, and a lot of tastefully done scratch rants.

As usual, Adeem packs in so many ideas and lyrics into the span of the album (66 minutes), that he definitely leaves the desire for multiple listens. Some of the best cuts would include "Rejuvenated", "Journeys & Leaps", "Believe", and "Past Lives".

Adeem is on the forefront of conscious rappers in hip-hop. Adeem and Shalem are two thirds of The Dorian Three. The other emcee, Adverse (also a member of the 1200 Hobos like Adeem), really brings this concept full circle. Adeem and Adverse go together like bread and butter, which makes for the most exciting record in both of their discography's. If you come across it (it's not on Amazon) I suggest you pick it up (it's titled "Down World, Up Songs" [2004]). In the mean time, pick up this one, Adeem's "Sweet Talking Your Brain", and Glue's "Seconds Away". Once you get into Adeem, it's hard to stop listening to him. Call me an addict.

This is hiphop taken back to its roots and brought to the front at the same time, much better than most of the top 40 'poser wannabe gangsta' garbage (getting alot like 80's rock, men dressing all fruity and acting all stupid) on the radio and playing on MTV. solid beats, catchy loops, this is what its all about, just good music the way hiphop was meant to be. no shilling corporate sodas or any things like that, just good songs from start to finish - also - check out the new disc "Dogfight" pushing the envelope even further. These guys are due to get some crazy respect, enjoy now while the enjoyin' is good!

        5 out of 5 stars A Must Have.......2002-11-15

If you are tired of the bling-bling in rap music, prepare to be enlightened lyrically through the sounds of RHP. Welcome to their world of noise! I garauntee that you have never heard hip-hop taken to this level before!

5 out of 5 stars Listerine for your cerebellum.......2002-01-11

Music fans like to complain about a lot of things. Almost mediocre talents selling millions of albums, poseurs crashing an undiscovered scene and stealing all the hot ordeurves, and that unforgivable sin: selling out. But the truth is, everyone is looking for the next great band that creates soundtracks for their lives. Your life is the hard part; but luckily for you, your soundtrack is right here at Amazon. "Rat Race Vacation" is a simple point and click away

And what a soundtrack it is! Trip-hop jazz at two in the morning? "Rhythmically Rhyming" has got you covered. Dive bar blues with the boys and a round of extra spicy buffalo wings on a Friday night? "Obese" is a click away. Need to get the party moving like Booger in "Revenge of the Nerds"? Save the blunts for later; pump "Get Your Head On" to eleven. Funky Swamp Rap that could whip Madonna's leather chaps right off her...you know. Take two swigs of "Talkin' About Stuff" and call me in the morning.

Influences abound: I count at least two dozen, not including Beastie Boys, Afrika Bambaataa, Devo, and Run-DMC in their prime. But the issue is far more important that who or what these guys sound like. Hip-Hop is in a state of crisis. Aren't you tired of listening to glam-rock hip-hoppers who are more interested in selling clothes and soap detergent than disseminating a positive message and dropping mind-altering beats? Remember, it was an unknown three piece that changed the world in 1991 with just a single album. Isn't it about time the same thing happened to hip-hop? You can make that happen. Be early to the party for once instead of jumping on the bandwagon.

5 out of 5 stars the cheapest and most rewarding vaction you'll eva take.......2002-01-03

Absorb RHP's CD and get ready to be inspired! In one of the best tracks on the album, OBESE, Shred Lexicon tells us "My rhymes are obese"- the album proves itself worthy and Obese is a perfect way to sum up Rat Race Vacation. Their outstanding lyrical style and creatively crafted beats crack open a most worthy sound delivering a tasty helping of what is sure to become a new standard for informed hip hop heads looking for an inspired musical experience. Regenerated Headpiece's inventive style has me listening to the album over and over--every time I discover new grooves and rhymes that wont quit.
