One would think that Jadakiss's fleeing Puff Daddy's record label to renew his membership in the reputable Ruff Ryder camp (alongside talents DMX and Eve) would guarantee greater things to come. However, Kiss tha Game Goodbye exposes Jada's lyrical limitations rather than magnifying his talents. The album kicks off with the keyboard-heavy Swizz Beatz-produced "Jada's Got a Gun." The hook is sung to the tune of Aerosmith's "Janie's Got a Gun," but it's not so much the unoriginal chorus that grates on the nerves as it is Jadakiss's narrow gun-centric lyrical focus as he brags: "I got a gun wit' 200 shots / I'm the reason you moved your family to a whole new other block." Students of the rap game will get a healthy sampling of Jada's unparalleled diction and punch lines that flow over great beats supplied by A-list producers (Timbaland, Neptunes, and DJ Premier in this case). There's little diversity in his lyrics as he boasts in "I'm a Gangsta" "my bullets is bisexual cuz they hit niggas and bitches," while in the Snoop Dogg-aided "Cruisin'" where he threatens to spread "bullets around like chicken pox." "We Gonna Make It" is an obvious chartbuster despite utilizing the same music as Ras Kass did in the "Home Sweet Home" underground headbanger. Likewise, the album is worth purchasing to peep the Beanie Sigel dis track "Un-Hunh!" However, some will tire of Jada's gun-talk and serial-philandering routine. Jadakiss has claimed to be the best rapper on the scene since the Notorious B.I.G. passed away, but if he keeps this routine up it might be time to Kiss tha Fame goodbye. --Dalton Higgins

4 out of 5 stars Long Kiss Goodnight.......2007-04-14

Popular member of group the LOX, Jadakiss debuts with first solo effort Kiss Tha Game Goodbye. After apologizing for the wait of this album on "Intro" the first song "Jada's Got A Gun" as the subject is found in the title, he explains why he uses this as a means of protection and the effects of using one. The album picks up momentem with "Show Discipline" featuring Nas with impressive and memorable lyrical contents "...leave out the club with another n*gg*'s watch / body that man and let other n*gg*s watch..." For a more mainstream attempt with production from the Neptunes, "Knock Yourself Out" is a good addition for the LP's contents. "We Gonna Make It" featuring Styles of the LOX has dramatic violin section as the two went back to back. Production by the Alchemist deserves recognition as one of the highlights of the album. Jada featured the members of his group Sheek & Styles of the LOX on "None Of Y'all Betta" over a DJ Premier's East Coast sound production. Secquenced with perfection "I'm A Gangsta" featuring Parle followed by "Nasty Girl" featuring Carl Thomas shows another side of Jadakiss as he adapted well to the tempo. Taking it to the club or more of a great performance song "Put Ya Hands Up" is another single deserving spotlight opportunity. I'm "On My Way" to see my b*tch works with it's catchy hook and simplicity. "Cruisin'" featuring Snoop Dogg and "Kiss Is Spittin'" featuring Nate Dogg are good collaborations with a more West Coast instrumentation adding range to the concept of the album. Jada calls on his labelmates to assist on "It's Time I See You" as each flow back to back featuring an appearance by Sheek, Styles, Eve, Drag-On, Infa-Red & Cross without a hook or chorus. Going for a southern feel, "What You Ride For?" featuring Fiend, Yung Wun & Eightball contained a dirty South bounce to complete the overall basis for the album. Speaking on his lifeline "Feel Me (skit)" was a perfect addition to get a glimpse of his dues to get to where he is but should have been longer. Kiss Tha Game Goodbye is a solid album and contains a few surprises worth checking out and or adding to your collection.

4 out of 5 stars Not a bad debut from Jada {3/5 stars}.......2006-10-18

Standout tracks:JADA'S GOT A GUN, SHOW DISCIPLINE(killer collabo with Nas), KNOCK YOUSELF OUT(that beat is still crazy), WE GONNA MAKE IT, NONE OF YALL BETTA(Vintage Lox plus the beat from Premier was icing on the cake), KISS IS SPITTIN, PUT YA HANDS UP, ITS TIME I SEE YOU, WHAT YOU RIDE FOR(young wun's verse was alright), UN-HUNH(Jada takes shots at Beanie Sigel), FEEL ME etc. Filler: F***in or what(wack as hell), Im a gangsta(too generic sounding), Nasty girl(wack girle record), On my way and Cruisin(worst matchup Ive ever heard). Bottom Line: Jadakiss's debut is not that bad but some of the filler listed brings his album down a bit. Jada has a killer flow but he shows his true potential here and there and that's not good especially for a nice emcee like him.

5 out of 5 stars One of my Top 100 fav albums.......2006-04-07

maybe even top 50, or top 25!

Much better than Kiss of Death , the best songs are None Of Yall Betta (Dj Premier beat), Discipline (with Nas)& Kiss is spittin (same beat as Regulate but a million times better...

Put Ya Hands up is obviously a shot at Jay-Z, since the beat is almost identical to his song called Do it Again (Put Ya Hands Up) and Jada tells him to put his hands down instead in this song... Also Good...

3 out of 5 stars Jada's Still Got It, Even Five Years Later.......2006-03-26

Being that I was hearing the Lox and their material, way before they signed to any major label (IE: before Bad Boy), I never thought I'd see the day where they would drop solo projects. Let alone seeing each member display themselves as indidviduals rather than a group setting. We finally got to see them display their skills and establish their own identities, apart from the group. So when Jada released Kiss The Game Goodbye in 2001, I was generally excited to see what he would come with (after seeing him and his group mates shine on We Are The Streets).

Needless to say, after all the mixed reviews his solo debut got,I was kind of lirey about diving into it, being that everyone was hailing it as a disappointment (and stating that he didn't live up to his potential). After some thoro listening, and a few more years, I've come to the conclusion that his debut is pretty solid. Give or take a few tracks.

Although it is evident he tried to please everyone with this album (which is something an artist should never do), Kiss The Game Goodbye did have its shining moments. Particularly in the tracks "Keep Your Head Up" and "Feel Me" (which happens to be a skit). Those songs actually let you see a little bit of him (everyone credits Why as his only so-called poli-sci record, but Keep Your head is a much better song with an even better message).

Everybody I noticed, tends to say Jada's boring, same flow, same old subjects. However, afer a few more years and a more fine tuned ear, I just realized what a wordsmith and clever lyricist Jadakiss is. Which is exactly what Kiss The Game Goodbye is. A wordsmith's album. A lot of the stuff he says in his rhymes (and his group mates for that matter} tend to go over a lot of people's heads. Jada presents his knowledge in clever one liners or a potent verse or two, all while using his smooth, unique, raspy voice to deliver it.

Speaking of which, that's what makes Jada a shining light. His ablitiy to be a wordsmith, and his bright but smooth delivery. Unfortunately, people always seem to catch on too late. This is not to say Jada's debut didn't have its faults. Once again, he tries to reach every listener, every audience, and please everyone. Which is where he falls short at. Hopefully, with his new third album on the way, he follows his heart and not the industry formula, and make the album we all know he's capable of doing (as he says he wants to make a Hip Hop classic). But in the mean time, Kiss The Game Goodbye should tie Jada fans over until his new one.

1 out of 5 stars this album is painful to listen to.......2005-12-31

The repetitive drone of this album lulls my eardrums to sleep. I literally have forced myself to listening to this album about 5 times, in the hopes that the 'good reviews' that I read for it would come true. I purchased it on BMG and have been dissappointed ever since.

Jadakiss is a played-out, over-hyped sell-out. His music has boring concepts, hooks, and rhyme-styles. As he himself said, though, "it's all about the voice". Well, your voice isn't even that original, considering that Chace Infinite of Self-Scientific has a similar sound to his voice, yet he is able to say something INTERESTING, INTELLIGENT, and POIGNENT with his, yet all Jada REALLY talks about with his is "how gangster he is" (which, he's not, or he'd be in jail), or "how he's got a gun".

Admittedly, later in his career, Jada would put out a track with some political or social weight ("WHY"), but even on it, he was outshined on a remix by EVERY OTHER RAPPER ON THE REMIX!!!. If you like Jadakiss and/or the Lox, and you KNOW you like them, then this album is going to be something you'll buy and probably love. It's the same old s#!t he's been doing before. Boring hooks, boring verses, boring concepts, boring album. If you want to hear someone with "the voice (or at least a mellow, smooth voice remniscent of Jada's)" that's actually saying something to beats that won't put you to sleep, then buy yourself a Self-Scientific album...

2 out of 5 stars Do NOT Buy Edited..........2002-07-15

Jadakiss's debut album "Kiss The Game Goodbye" is one of the best rap cd's i own, but, the edited version is so bad that i had to give it only 2 stars. It's not that bad on songs like "Knock Yourself Out" and "We Gonna Make It" where there wasn't much cussing in the first place, but, on tracks like "Show Discipline" and "Put Ya Hands Up" it's unbearable how they block out every other word.

One of the worst parts about it is that they take out 5 whole tracks, 3 of which are skits but come on, 5 TRACKS GONE! I'm not dissing Jada at all, he's an ill rapper and i think the cd is tight, it's just the i can't stand so much editing!

5 out of 5 stars Hotttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2001-09-04

I'd been waiting for this cd to hit the stores for a long time and finally it here! To everybody out there who doesnt have this album yet I suggest yall get it. Every song on this cd is hott. And number six with styles and sheek is one of the tightest on there. Kiss really showed that he is one of the top rap heavy weights with this one. Hes the hottest rapper out right now.

5 out of 5 stars The Rawest Spittin'.......2001-08-08

Jadakiss is one of the rawest lyricist, not rapper, lyricist spit today. Jada spits like he is trying to get signed on this album. Every track is tight from the lyrics to the punchlines, down to the beats. This is probably going to be the rap album of the year. Tracks to bump is Knock yourself out, Un huh with Dmx (yes X will shoot the crown off of Jigga and Jada ate Beanie Mac up on this and on the new mixtape diss called "F Beanie"),Show Discpline featuring Nas,It's time to see featuring the Ruff Ryder family, We gon make it featuring Styles, damn bump the whole album straight through unlike Beanie Sigel's garbage Album- The Reason. What is the reason for that Bulls#**? Freeway, what is the reason for "International Player" Jay-Z "What is the reason for H to the Ozzo, M to the Ozzo? People diss ROCAFELLA because they talk to much, the rawest person is jay-z and Beanie,Sparks,Chris and Memphis Bleek are either so so or garbage, so why open up ya'll mouths to talk. Nas is betta than Memphis, Jadakiss and Sheekare Betta than Freeway and Beanie. Styles will finish off the rest. So where is the top Family coming from, when Jay-Z is the only one going Platinum. Double R is the Dynasty, Holla. Ya'll Freeway,Sparks, Chris and Beanie freestyles suck. It doesn't get any better than this Cd right here "Kiss The Game Goodbye. Pick it up now right now. Peace. One. Holla at your Man!

5 out of 5 stars Takin your heart a way like Penny..........2001-06-15

This cd is crazy...put ya hands up and however do you want me are only tips of the iceberg...Kiss is lyrically above most of the competition slangin talk that gets the streets crunkin and will have baby mamas tellin they kids like, "don't be scurred"...and the cats that like to just roll with 35% down half way will be straight ridin to "cruisin" with Snoop and the Dre produced tracks are insane...Kiss and Dre who woulda thought this woulda been ya last day to all thos who try and challenge...go ahead..u want a shot at the title baby? Dont sleep on the tracks that dont include tha doggfather or eminem cause the dolo joints hold they own..Cop it.
