1 out of 5 stars Good if you like trash........2003-10-27

When I bought this CD I figured I'd find at least 5 or 6 good tracks on it since there are so many. After listening to the album for about a week I decided to send it back to the producers. I put the cd back in the case and mailed it back to chicago with a note asking for my money back. One year has passed and I still have yet to see my money. Don't buy this CD until you are able to listen to at least a couple tracks first. When I bought it I hadn't heard any of it and was dissapointed. I guess Twista doesn't do it like he used to. He's sold out especially since he went to Roc a Fella. Maybe Jay can give TWIST some better beats while he's there. I wanna send a shout out to Big Al in Vegas and my dogg Andy K out in Arizona. Holla!

1 out of 5 stars This Album is the epitome of "Huffness".......2002-08-01

I've been down with both the chicago hip-hop and chicago gangsta rap scene since day one, and anyone who says that this album is in the least way decent must either be clueless, or merely confused. I've witnessed Twista's style develop and transform throughout the years. From his early days with his incredibly fast debut "runnin' off at da mouth", to his second LP "Ressurection" (which was never released due to legal issues, but can still be obtained at several underground hip-hop stores around chicago) to his third and fourth lp's Adrenaline rush and Mobstability, with every album being unique in it's own way. But the Twista we used to know and love is no longer. Street Scriptures sounds like an awful rendition of an almost "No Limit" sound. This album is a disgrace to twista and to chicago in general. Hopefully he ends up on MTV right next to Puffy, with his next lp Kamikaze, and every boy and girl will walk around singing his hook unaware of the great Twista we all used to love.

4 out of 5 stars It's a cool lil cd.......2002-04-21

The cd is cool fo what it is i like all the songs but the one that he had weak people on but i wanna know is when twist is comin out with another cd or video

holla back

1 out of 5 stars Is this even twista?.......2002-01-18

This is the worst album twista has EVER put his name on. When I first heard it I didn't even think it was twista. The songs are hella weak. This album is NOTHING compared to his others. Please, don't waste your time with this album, pick up adrenaline rush or mobstability. Anyone who gives this a good rating doesn't know sh-t about twista or chi-town. Trust me, no one in the city is listening to this one.

2 out of 5 stars I am so dissillusioned right now.......2007-04-07

This cd is sooooo awful. It's worse than the Baldhead Slick & the Click CD (which is terrible in its own right). I love the first five gang starr albums, and even the Full Clip collection's new tracks were true to the conscious style, but ever since the third jazzmatazz album came out, Guru's been gradually becoming the substance-less, gun-toting, and generally lazy lyricist I heard rapping on this album. The Ownerz and Jazzmatazz 3 had there moments, but other than that it's been garbage. Do yourself a favor and listen to the first two jazmatazz albums, No More Mr. Nice Guy, Step In The Arena, Daily Operation, and especially Hard to Earn and Moment Of Truth if you want to hear the best of Guru & Gang Starr. But stay away from this CD completely. It's so f*&^%ing awful, seriously.

3 out of 5 stars Congratulations, you completely missed the point........2006-07-22

This album isn't weak because Guru suddenly changed into super thug. It's weak because Solar's beats are cheesey....because Guru is rehashing old lyrics......and because hip hop is beats AND rhymes...not one or the other. Don't bend it, accept it for what it is.

But y'all don't get it. Y'all just know what you heard from him back in '93 and still swing on his nuts because of it. Bottom line, the beats are weak and Guru ain't kickin' it the same.

P.S. - notice how the other reviewer only mentioned the dope rhymes? He failed to mention that those kinds of rhymes are few and far in between on this cd.

    Peace

    4 out of 5 stars Anotha Classic!.......2006-04-14

I thought it was one of the best Hip Hop albums that came out in 2005 to 2006.

4 out of 5 stars Previous reviews are biased!.......2006-04-13

First, lets get to the facts! There seems to be allot of bias on the reviews of Guru & Solars Street Scriptures due to the fact that its not produced by DJ Premier. Gang Starr was one of the best Hiphop groups in the history of the genre, but Guru and Premier are not a group anymore and as hard as it is to grasp that for some fans, people need to let that go and judge this LP with an open mind (which is not happening here).

Most of these reviews seem intentionally malicious, with no other basis then to smear Guru's good name and degrade Solar because he's not Primo. For reference, please see that there are no reviews bashing Big Shug's "Who's Hard" LP, when it has failed to generate the type of good reviews Street Scriptures has received from mainstream magazines. So where is all of the negativity stemming from--one would have to assume from pro Premier fans! Let the facts show that Street Scriptures has sold almost 100K copies, while Big Shug's LP has sold a sparse 3K.

Now, lets get into some facts; "Cave In" does not use the "White Lines" sample and "Surviving the Game" does not use a Beatles sample; please consider that no one has the audacity to use an "uncleared" Beatles sample, its the equivalent of writing a blank check---most music industry types know that its virtually impossible to clear a Beatles sample (see Talib Kweli & John Legend's "Lonely People," which Kweli was unable to use due to the Beatles track from which it was lifted) and for those that choose to move forward with uncleared Beatles sample, they run the risk of having the project shut down and having lawsuits filed (see Dangermouse's Grey Album). If your going to state things, at least have them be correct.

Should Guru be criticized for moving on and employing a producer (Solar)he obviously vibes with now (and one who is born and breed in NYC)? Guru has a new sound and is moving on into new directions, should he be judged so harshly and biased for doing so? All of this negativity is coming from pro-Premier fans who are attempting to slander Guru, Solar and there new label.

All good things come to an end at some point (Gang Starr), but that does not diminish the legacy. Hopefully, Premier's fans will respect that and cease the defamation campaign that's so easily visible here with these reviews.

Premier is a legend, Guru is a legend and Solar is one in the making---just let the music speak for itself and try to listen with an unbiased ear.

    1 out of 5 stars I am very disappointed!.......2006-02-23

I came to Amazon and saw the reviews. I did not believe what I read. I could not believe Guru turned gangsta rap! The Street Scriptures is as lousy as people wrote about it. This is so sad, because his previous CD's were beautiful blends of hip hop and jazz. Well, that's it. Unless he goes back to hip hop / jazz, I wont buy his music again. I wonder why he changed? I fell bad for the jazz artists he featured in the 1st three CDs. I am sure they too are surprised of Guru's bizzare change.
