This CD may well kick off with a roaring and rocking guitar riff that is Carpenter performing at his absolute best but the rest is dull as ditchwater. There are no themes in any of these tracks. It's actually a lot like the ambient music in the Myst and Riven soundtracks. Only those CDs are cool and the music within is haunting and etheral. If you dig this kind of music then by all means by those instead. ITMOM may well begin with some of the best electric guitar sounds ever, but the CD is not worth buying. A shame really, because Carpenter is a truly gifted musician.

Carpenter returns to his creepy roots........2001-10-30

Once the listener gets past the peppy movie titled opening track, Carpenter's score for his return to hard edged horror settles down to the creepy basics. The entire album constantly moves back and forth between mood music and unsettling sound design, both working well in the raising gooseflesh department. Highly recommended for Halloween parties or as background ambience when reading a scary story.

A Strole Down Spook Alley.......2001-04-12

In "The Mouth of Madness" by John Carpenter, I found myself looking over my shoulder and jumping at any noise I heard. This story was bizarre enough, creepy enough to wet my everlasting appetite for something from the horror menu. Most of the story takes place in a picturesque town (everyone has been to someplace similar)named "Hobbes Corner" which turns out to be the resting place of the Unspeakable One. The twists and turns that Carpenter takes us through are pleasingly shocking and full of surprises. The end is superb with Trent, the only character alive, sitting in a cinema watching his own demise.

Another excellent John Carpenter soundtrack........1998-09-25

This soundtrack is different than JC's older soundtracks as it's more of a haunted house type music then his trademark synthesizer pulse style.Very long and it contains alot of music that you barely notice in the movie (because it's set low in the movie).My fav tracks include the catchy "The Book Comes Back",and the very chilling "Just a Bedtime Story".

Another great John Carpenter soundtrack.......1998-09-18

A very long soundtrack that refreshingly is in the order of the movie scenes.More of a haunted house soundtrack than the usual pulsating synthesizer music that's the JC norm.My favorite tracks are "The Book Comes Back" a funky and eerie track,and the closer "Just a Bedtime Story" which IMHO is the most chilling JC composed track ever.

In The Mouth Of Madness is wack lyrically and production wise. Luni Coleone is a wack rapper who shouldn't be allowed to touch a mic. NOT a recommended album.
