Evolution is always good... especially for FBC.......2006-08-01
I have to say, Full Blown Chaos has evolved into something greater. Even though they are a lot less hardcore and now have more of a death metal sound, it is still amazing. The drums, guitars and bass have evolved for the best, for there are faster and harder riffs along with the drumming (there are a hella lot more double bass drum... which is good). And I have to say, the screaming has also evolved greatly. Before, it was a lower sound, but it is now a higher pitch with more control; they are not making their own sound. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that in their next album, they will have made their own sound completly.
I do have to say that it took me awhile to get used to it. For the vocals were totally different and I too used to Wake The Demons (I still am waiting for Prophet of Hostility to come out at my record store >_
<). But after I learned the words, it quickly became my favorite of the two.
See you at the Masquerate with Hatebreed on the 12th!!!
A Fine Follow-up.......2006-07-26
These guys are back with as much brutality and skull-crushing metal as they ever had. The song writing on this record is a little more stream-lined than their previous efforts. Not a bad thing, but whereas on Prophet of Hostility and Wake the Demons FBC jumped around everywhere, this record still has those changes but to a lesser extent in each track. Mostly, each tune has a breakdown that takes it in an unexpected but satifying direction. Songs like Life of Sorrow, where the first half is a speed run and then the drummer introduces the new rhymic pattern on his snare drum before the whole band picks it up. Chopping Block does the same thing; the song starts with a pulverizing rhythm and ends with a groove. Look for the hidden track after The Voorhees Complex. They retracked Blood Flow while recording Titans and it sounds killer. All in all this is an excellent follow-up, and should satisfy their fans.
metal-core(but a little more metal,a little less core).......2006-07-14
let me start by saying i love F.B.C,i have all of the stuff that they put onto cd but this one is a bit different! i would compare this release to wake the demons and prophets of hostility to what hatedbreed did with rise of brutality to persverance(although i think this cd is better than R O B).this cd is a lot more metal than hard core, the breakdowns are there but not like previous F.B.C stuff where they took every chance they could to rattle your teeth out with a earth shaking (rung out) breakdown!please don't get me wrong there are some good ones on here but just not like before.i liked this cd more the second time i listened to it so i think it will grow on me, but still compared to their other stuff this is really good, not great. if you like F.B.C check this out IT IS GOOD!! and better than 75% of the stuff out there but go in with a open mind willing to accept some change!
Breakdown Masters.......2006-07-13
If u live for breakdowns and u love headbanging. These Yanks are for u. Raddical!

Pure Skull Smashing Hardcore.......2007-04-11
As a devoted metalhead, I enjoy all forms of heavy music that I can find ranging from traditional heavy metal, thrash metal, groove metal, black metal, stoner metal, death metal, technical death metal, brutal death metal, melodic death metal, industrial metal, grindcore, math metal, and yes some hardcore/metalcore at times as well. Full Blown Chaos are in my mind one of the better hardcore bands I've listened to. In case some of you people don't know, FBC are a crossover between death metal and tough guy hardcore, and believe me, the results are totally devastating. These guys no doubt sound exactly like the band name says. I picked up their full length debut from 2004 "Wake the Demons", a while back and I must say I was mighty impressed with what I've heard. This album will just beat your body to a bloody pulp, and smash your skull into oblivion from beginning to end. Ray Mazzola is one of the better vocalists in the entire hardcore/metalcore scence today. He can switch from sick gutteral style death metal growls to brutal tough guy hardcore shouts, and he also sounds a whole lot like Phil Anselmo (Pantera, Down, Superjoint Ritual) at times as well. The guitar riffs are just aggressive and crushing and just straight up fast. The drumming is very Slayer reminiscent as well, and there's plenty of fast in your face fills and crazy double bass kicks to boot. The lyrics are very moving, and in your face as well.
Favorite songs: "Apocalypse", "Undying", "Unlearn", "Wake the Demons", "Strength Within", "Red Tide", "Judged", "Fore Warned", and "Chains of Bloodshed".
Forget Poison the Well, Atreyu, Eighteen Visions, 36 Crazyfists, and all those other poser wannabee hardcore bands, this is how REAL hardcore is supposed to sound.
Overall highly recommended for fans of Slayer, Hatebreed, and Pantera. Buy this album now.
Awesome.......2007-03-20
If you love Hardcore this is a absolutely great album. Full of energy this album I jammed to too motivated me to run 10 miles in the desert.
Great album.......2006-07-20
To compare these guys to Hatebreed isn't doing these guys justice. Hatebreed is a great band but these guys can stand on thier own. This is a well put together album and the rythum changes are flawless. If you love Hatebreed you will not be disappointed with FBC. Well worth every penny.
Sickness.......2006-07-06
I first discovered these guy's at a DEVILDRIVER show here in CO. They jumped on stage to shared a song with BURY YOUR DEAD and they killed it so I started looking them up on the web and started listening to their stuff, low and behold the stuff was Brutal. It is controled Chaos, now it is'nt like NILE OR FETUS type Brutal but it is consitantly Aggro. If you are having one of those day's where everything suck's and you hate everyone this is the stuff you need to have in your CD player full blast. Forget all the fantasy and myth in some music get STRAIGHT HATE type stuff and release your inner aggression.
Music Sounding Exactly As Their Name Claims.......2006-05-27
I don't know about all this hardcore versus metalcore versus grindcore crap, but as far as pure, brutal metal is concerned, these guys lay it down. The vocalist sounds like a death metal Phil Anselmo (Pantera). His balls-out, 'I have to always make a statement' lyrics power through every song. The guitarist keeps his riffs centered around shredding. While there are some guitar queers out there that have to hear huge melodic progressions and complex chord changes (like a few of the whiners reviewing this album), this guy keeps it where it needs to be: straight-forward thrash. The bass player is lost in the mix of the record, really only be noticable on the intro. to the song 'This Fight'. The drummer shreds and shreds and shreds. That dude comes across as a clean, tight, well-oiled machine. There is no lack of double bass on the record. As for the album itself, it is simple. Short, sweet, and to the point metal. The songs hover in the two minute range, all with quick intros and no guitar solos. The band hammers down from the get-go, favoring long speed runs mixed with bashing moments or groove. If you need intense metal, these guys have made the album for you.

Pounding.......2004-11-29
This is by far one of the best hardcore cds Ive ever heard. Chunky bass, heavy guitar, great drumming and some of the best vocals you'll find out there. The breakdowns are some of the heaviest in the bussiness such as the one on the song "My Suffering" this album is a must buy for any hardcore or any fan of brutal music. BUY THIS ABLUM!!!!
Havent i heard this before?.......2004-10-03
No originality, just lame metalcore riffs. I do not see any talent in this band, jus angry fat guys. I hear they put on a great live show, but if their playing lame songs, then why see them live at all? There was even a song which i knew the riff was familiar, and they totally ripped off NOTE FOR NOTE a slayer song. Not impressed at all. If you like music strictly for violence and breakdowns, this is fine for you.

Album Description
After all the years the Grifters have been playing together, they can't help but sound like a band. That wasn't always the case, but on Full Blown Possession, they sound seasoned, sure of themselves, and much more into the task of making a concise disc. "Sweetest Thing" is an acoustic country-blues, while "Re-Entry Blues" rocks you with just the right attitude to make you want to hear it again and again. If it's true that alt-rock has gone mainstream, then the Grifters have all oars in the water and are paddling ahead at full speed.
Customer Reviews:
one of the best albums of the 90s.......2002-06-03
The late(?) and definitely lamented Grifters were a wonderful band from a town I love, Memphis, Tennessee, and I think this album was their best release. It is one of my favorite albums of the last fifteen years. Drop the needle down anywhere on the album (or program in any song, if you will) and you'll find a winner; what's really great about the album, though, is the way it all works together, in spite of the wide range of songs and arrangements. You'll get the most out of it, especially on first listening, if you can put it on at the start of a long uninterrupted drive where you can hear the record straight through without being interrupted by telephone calls or knocks on the door. It rocks, it's spooky, it moves you, it makes you laugh. Buy it now, while it's still available. You never know when something will go out of print.

It's about the music.......2004-10-13
An arresting program of music where cliche and lick appear completely absent. My own exposure to Mr Burrell's music was in the 1960's and some of his performances still ring in memory. Like Thelonious Sphere Monk, or Mr Paul Bley, technique is wholly in the service of the music and with Mr Burrell we can sense the mind and heart of the man being expressed through his touch where his touch seems never to be on automatic - every moment of music is a purposeful act. This is not to say the music is stilted, or self conscious - the opposite is true. It is very easy on the ear, mind and heart - in fact it seems to open up the heart and mind. With masters Mr William Parker on Acoustic Bass and on (IN THE BALANCE) Kota, and Mr Andrew Cyrille on percussion, this is beautiful and rewarding CD of music.
Nice start to a new label.......2004-08-21
Good to see the perennially underrecorded Dave Burrell with a new one in the racks, with a new label named after one of his classic albums (though I don't believe that the record label is actually owned by Burrell). This is a very brief disc (40 minutes) but packs in a lot of variety within that space, from wonky marches to free playing to a lyrical stridepiano version of "They Say It's Wonderful". Burrell varies his attack and approach quite widely with the material--from bluntness to snowflake delicacy--& he's got a great band in support. Andrew Cyrille is in excellent form--check out his unusual work on "Double Heartbeat", for instance, which he gives an unusla flavour by using only toms & bass drum (no cymbals). William Parker's playing well too, with a fine arco solo on "Cryin' Out", though he's somewhat clutzy on the final track, "Coup d'Etat". (It's a "Giant Steps" variation, & Parker simply isn't the right bassist to walk over such changes.) It's a handsomely packaged album, too, & the sound is quite good (it's produced by FLAM, of Thirsty Ear Blue Series fame/notoriety).
Finally ..........2004-06-14
Expansion is legendary pianist Dave Burrell's first recording for a domestic label since 1966. Burrell himself has declared this album to be his "greatest recorded work". Until I hear proof to the contrary, I'm going to have to agree with him.
This album is a virtual tour through the historical possibilities of the jazz piano trio. Drummer Andrew Cyrille, a legend in his own right and ubiquitous bassist William Parker are his accompanists on this album, and there is nothing Burrell can dish out that they can't handle. All of these tunes are broken down, re-imagined and re-assembled again on the fly by the trio.
The album begins with the title track, an avant garde take on stride piano, albeit with full rhythm section in tow. Fans of the admittedly prodigiously talented Jason Moran, who also delves into such pre-war jazz styles, might want to hear an elder statesman's take on the same material. The album ends with Coup d'Etat, a swingin' variation on Coltrane's Giant Steps changes, but in-between there is a solo piano interpretation of an Irving Berlin show tune, some pseudo-military marches, a few free pieces and a ballad or two.
This studio recording highlights the trios multifarious abilities and empathic skills. Cyrille's trap set work is both delicate yet driving, Parker's bass meaty and propulsive, and when bowed, as it is on the duet - Cryin' Out Loud, absolutely sings. Burrell's own piano playing is unique. Less of the pounding clusters of the Cecil Taylor school, more of the everywhere at once linear logic of the great Don Pullen. Together they are a forceful but not unsubtle unit, capable of great sensitivity or, when the piece calls for it, such as on the pair of anti-war pieces, great emotion.
It's a shame that artists of this caliber have to wait so long for the sort of exposure they deserve. Burrell's contemporaries Sonny Simmons, Andrew Hill and Henry Grimes have all benefited from rediscoveries and reinvigorated careers in the last few years. Although this album is exceptional in it's own right, here's hoping that this is but the first of many more albums from Dave Burrell.

This CD is fantastic from beginning to end. Smooth melodies and great techno beats. Songs progress from one to the next in a great way to keep the listener entertained throughout the entire record. This is not a monotenous techno CD, it has a little bit of everything for the listener who enjoys electronic/pop music.
