Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27

We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.

5 out of 5 stars memories.......2007-02-22

This cd is excellent it has a lot of very good music and true to the original sound, Am getting a lot of enjoyment, highly recomended

5 out of 5 stars TV Theme Songs.......2007-01-13

This is a great CD for people who watch a lot of TV -especially TV LAND and reruns of old shows when shows had actual theme songs. I took the CD to work and everyone loved trying to figure out what show the songs were from.

3 out of 5 stars TV themes.......2006-07-05

Not all what I expected, not all of the tunes are the original recordings you remember as the TV themes.

5 out of 5 stars Deja Vu.......2006-02-17

Listening to these familiar themes as performed by the original artists certainly brings back wonderful memories! I was particularly pleased, not only with the quality of the pieces, but with the actual performances themselves, just as we remembered them!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra needs a guitar player!.......2006-11-09

Granted, they only need it for one composition (the last one, "The James Bond Theme") but still, without the guitar it's just not the same. Barry didn't compose this one so I suppose it was a bonus and I shouldn't complain, really. The rest of the music on all the CDs is fantastic. Some of the stuff I had heard before without realizing who had composed it. Very enjoyable, to say the least.

5 out of 5 stars Persuaders Theme!.......2006-03-02

Buy it for the Persuaders theme, probably the best TV theme song ever written.

5 out of 5 stars A Variety Of Classics!.......2005-12-06

John Barry has been composing film scores for over forty years and this is only scratching the surface of his productions. Never mind that the entire set is recorded by the Prague Philharmonic; it's pure to Barry's themes. While John Williams compositions ("Star Wars", etc.) are wild and flamboyant and Jerry Goldsmith's (Hoosier's, etc.) are mood pieces, John Barry crosses over all barriers and is amazingly diverse. Barry has recorded most of the exciting James Bond themes, melodramatic classics like "The Lion In Winter' and moody theme hits like "Midnight Cowboy". He also tugs at the heartstrings with compositions from, "Somewhere In Time", "Frances" and "Out Of Africa". He varies his themes for all types of films and few composers capture it so well.

There is over four hours of music in this set with a colorful and informative booklet.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible Barry Collection.......2004-03-11

Any fan of movies will absolutley love this collection. Being a movie buff I couldn't wait to get this boxed set. Knowing Barry from all the James Bond movies, I did not realize his involvement with so many others. The orchestra is magnificent in all these themes. I'm listening to "High Road to China" right now and I'm drifting in the clouds in a Tiger Moth with Tom Selleck and Bess Armstrong. If you are familiar with a movie it will definitely have you seeing it again, if not the scores are still beautiful. Any fan of classical music will be pleased as well. Travellers will defintitely enjoy it for a long drive. I know from when I use to travel that music like this made the miles float by faster. I highly recommend these four CDs even if you just know a handful of the songs.

5 out of 5 stars " one of cinema's greatest composers...John Barry".......2001-07-06

4 out of 5 stars Good first album.......2006-11-28

Just as Ritchie Blackmore replaced the guitar player of Elf with himself and became Blackmores Rainbow. Paul kossoff replaces the guitar player from the band Bloontz, and renames the band Back Street Crawler. What a great move, I have the Bloontz LP and it was actually a good album, but with Kossoff playing the guitar, the band stepped up to Elite status. This is a really good album and Paul shows off his stuff with musicians other than the Free guys. If U like Blues U'll like this one.

5 out of 5 stars Paul Still Lives On.......2005-08-13

I bought this way back when there were only LP's not CD's, but the tone is still there ... sharp as a razor . Paul had a true style and sound that in time would have made him a full-blown "star". At times he could be somewhat sloppy, but not on "The Band Plays On". I believe he had one of the finest vibratos in rock ... he made a note sing ... something most guitarist never learn to do well. Paul was also an excellent rhythm player ... he is known for his lead playing but just listen to any of the songs on the CD ... the dude could play ... and he had a really great band to perform with, Back Street Crawler could have been a contender ... but fate had other ideas for Paul, sadly enough. This recording is 35 years old ... so it has a time stamped on it ... but this was how rock kicked butt in its day. And thanks to this CD, The Band Plays On ... and so does Paul Kossoff.

4 out of 5 stars Hazlewood Rarities.......2007-04-11

Like many others my age, I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to Lee Hazlewood or his music while he was in the semi-limelight, but came to know and love his music much later on. Several years ago, I chanced to hear a compilation of covers of Lee Hazlewood songs called Total Lee. I liked it and became hooked almost immediately. Since then, I have acquired most available Hazlewood recordings and have become somewhat of a connoisseur of his dark humor and ribald connotations.
With the recent acquisition of the double reissue of Poet, Fool, or Bum/Back On the Street Again, I am well on my way to completion of my Hazlewood CD collection. Both of these records (here combined) were released only in Europe in the mid-70s, so listening to this is to hear what he was doing at a time when many thought he had disappeared.
It took me a couple of listens to really like this, but I eventually came around. This is far more country than pop. While these are not his best records, there is a lot here to like. My favorites are: Poet, Fool, or Bum; Kari; Feathers, Nancy and Me; Back On the Street Again; Your Thunder and Your Lightning; Suddenly Tennessee, Dolly and Hawkeye, and Dolly Parton's Guitar. Hearing once again how lyrically clever Hazlewood can be, I can see why so many alt-rock musicians look to him for inspiration.
If you have yet to hear this bunch of Hazlewood rarities, give it a listen. In addition to the CD, the buyer gets an informative booklet. At the low price on offer here, you can't go wrong.

Since I First Met Him Here In Sweden, I`ve Alwas Liked This Guy. He Got Something That`s Hard To Explain. But His Voice Just Sounds Great

5 out of 5 stars Can Hazlewood do any wrong? I haven't heard it..........2006-08-25

Here ya got 2 great albums by Mr. Hazlewood. The songs Poet, Fool, or Bum (one of Lee's greatest), Heaven is my Woman's Love, and Smokey Put a Sweat on Me are excellent additions to the Hazlewood catalogue. Some of the songs have a bit of a 70's feel to them, but I dig the 1970's, probably the last really creative decade in America. Add another CD to your Hazlewood catalogue....

Herb Pedersen has been at many progressive country and bluegrass high-water marks: For starters his deft, Scruggs-style banjo and mellow tenor energized classic albums by the Dillards, the Desert Rose Band, and Country Gazette. Four years ago Pedersen formed this borderline bluegrass supergroup with Bill Bryson on bass, Kenny Blackwell on mandolin, Roger Reed on guitar, and teen fiddling star Gabe Witcher. The Ramblers' traditional sound--snug three-part harmonies, fluid interaction of classic bluegrass instrumentation-- balances against the supple innovations of arrangement and song selection. Two contemporary folk songs, "Back on the Street Again" (Steve Gillette) and "You Can Close Your Eyes" (James Taylor), are among the strongest moments on their third album, as are originals such as "Hold On," Pedersen's flowing philosophical tale, and Bryson's spiritual "Move On," graced by Reed's gorgeously simple acoustic guitar work. --Roy Francis Kasten

3 out of 5 stars A piece of history.......2006-06-03

Many of the songs on this recording are not available in sheet music, and although the sound quality isn't "leading edge" it makes me feel as though I am listening to actual performers back in the 30's & 40's, with young and gifted singers like Frank Sinatra, Jo Stafford, and Mel Torme, as well as others who are nameless or unknown to me on this album, and a delight to listen to. Manhattan Tower is why I bought this CD, and I got so much more from it than I bargained for. The illusion I have when I play it is that I am a young jazz artist in New York, feeling the pulse of the city and filling up with everything about being a part of New York.

1 out of 5 stars A BIG disappointment!.......2004-08-19

I bought this CD for the Slaughter on Tenth Avenue soundtrack ballet by Richard Rodgers and Lennie Hayton. But none of the tracks on this CD can be appreciated. It is a mono recording, and that immediately leaves you with a very incomplete sound. No amount of treble and bass adjustment can eliminate the awful tinny sound throughout the disc.

4 out of 5 stars Historic Ragtime.......2001-03-31

Charles Thompson was a contemporary of Jelly Roll Morton and James P. Johnson, and was one of the leading figues of the second generation of St. Louis ragtime pianists.

This album, made up of live recordings from the early 1960s, finds Thompson in reasonable form, playing some of his best known pieces plus a few standards. His powers had declined a little from his 1948-49 American Music recordings, but he was still able to play in an entertaining fashion. Many of the performances are rather short, but these are historic recordings by a little known but important figue in ragtime.

Delmark is to be commended for this release: let's hope they re-issue the rest of the Euphonic back catalogue. Anyone interested in ragtime and early jazz should consider buying this CD.

4 out of 5 stars A serious lyrical upgrade from his classic 1st album........2005-02-04

Alright, alright, alright. I'm a little bias here because this is one of my favorite rappers from back in the day. A lot of people dismis Ron MuthaF--kin 'C' because of his lyrical flow. However, I found him fresh and something different when he first came onto the scene. For one he was a westcoast cat coming out on Profile, primarily known for breaking east coast acts (hello, Run a ha ha, D.M.C. Back On The Street, Ron step up his lyrical flow not to mention D.J. Snake is just crushin people on this one. Granted, Ron is not Rakim or Method Man but he never claim to be and has his own niche: Telling it like it is and Dope beats from the most underrated D.J./Producer in the game, Snake. Peep Nemesis for proof. Basically, if your looking for westcoast and southern fried style this is a winner. You can't go wrong with this one.
