Throughout the 1990s, Snoop Dogg proved that the phrase "old rappers" doesn't have to be an oxymoron, and that it's possible to age gracefully within the genre. On Tha Last Meal, Snoop proves that all the glitter isn't gone from his golden throat. He's so secure that he even dips into crooning on the so fresh and so clean "Leave Me Alone." But Tha Last Meal largely achieves its smoothness through worn-leather raps delivered with pimp savoir-faire and production--supplied by Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Meech Wells, and others--that swaps the charisma-free bounce of Snoop's last two albums for an uptempo, newly enthused sound. The glee is echoed in Snoop's rhymes. "I'm in a three-piece suit looking too cute," Snoop gloats on "Stacey Adams." "Go Away" serves as the Dogg's new position statement, on which he belligerently proclaims "I'm too young to retire, I'm having fun with it / See, when you learn what to do with it, I'll be done with it." Indeed, it'll take a nation of haters to keep Snoop down, something that Snoop nods to on "True Lies," which features the boldest player of all, President Bill Clinton. Snoop Dogg comes real dope in Y2K with this one. Believe it or not, this is only the second Snoop album I got; I bought Doggfather and the No Limit albums after! This album compared to his late 90's albums, and his ones after this, is one of his best in my humble opinion. He has that passion and great production that make this second to Doggystyle. In fact, this album has an insert comic strip of him awaiting execution by chronic injection, hella funny, and it reminds me heavily of his debut. The beats are awesome and even though they are timely (for 2000 standards), they are awesome. Snoop hooks up with Dr. Dre, Battlecat, Meech Wells, Scott Storch, Soopafly, and these guys all deliver some top-notch G-Funk beats. Timbaland drops some phat mainstream style electrofunk on a couple, and Carlos Stephenson (of No Limit fame) drops an o.k. beat on "Back Up Off Me" which is mediocre, but not bad. Master P, who I do like, esp. in earlier works, drops a funny hook with his grunty vocals. There are many phat tracks that bring back that Long Beach Cali sound, like "True Lies" with a nice laidback keyboard ridden Dre beat and Kokane dropping some dope moany hook vocals (It's dope to see Kokane, Snoop, and Dre working together esp. considering the beef Ruthless records (Kokane was a memeber of) had with Death Row Records (Dre). Kokane drops a bunch more vocals on this album too. Kokane is also on the banger "Hennessey N Buddah" another funky twangy track giving an ode to the drink and weed. I love the C-Walkin' "Wrong Idea" with Bad Azz and Kokane, a nice bouncy hood anthem. Scott Storch drops real heat on "Y'all Gone Miss Me," a vintage G-Funk track with a slow rollin' beat and phat whiny synths that remind me of the early-mid 90's. Scott Storch also creates a dope beat on "Ready 2 Ryde" w/ sexy Eve and Snoop trading g'd up verses over a heavy East Coast meets West Coast inflected thumper. There are some P-Funk inflected tracks too! Scott Storch produces a space boogie beat on the lovably odd pimp anthem "Brake Fluid." Timbaland produces his electrofunk beats on the mainstream tracks like "Set It Off" (w/ Ice Cube, MC Ren, Nate Dogg, and Rage); definitely a party jumper, and Timbo did the same on Snoop Dogg (What's My Name Pt. 2) giving the album a track for the radio and video circuit. Then, there is the "Aqua Boogie" sample, a staple in G-Funk, on the funny, lovable, but odd "I Can't Swim." The beat is not a simple sample; it is given a life of its own! This album is too long to go track by track, but it is definitely worth lookin' into. Dope production and Snoop's best luid flow and lyrics since Doggystyle definitely turned my head and made it nod. This is as close as he has ever gotten to matching the intensity and passion of Doggystyle. In my books, this album is right there with the classics!

Snoop's Third Best Album In My Opnion.......2006-09-07

In my opinion Doggystyle was his best album, Tha Doggfather is his second best album and Tha Last Meal is his third best album. Of course that's just my opinion and other's may dissagree with me. Well this album is bringing back memories of his prime on Deathrow. It has guest appearances by some of his old Deathrow homies - Lady Of Rage, Tha Dogg Pound and Nate Dogg and the lyrics are very much gangsta. And Dr Dre contributed to the production which also made it great. The reason I only gave it four stars is not because I judge all his records on his debut, but rather the album is great but not perfect. Well we have No Limit crap by crappy people like Master P and stuff, all the guest appearances should have been by his talented Deathrow homies. Then all the songs should have been produced by Dr Dre, not just only a couple. But overall this is a Snoop Dogg classic and should be owned by not only all Snoop Dogg fans but also all rap fans. I have liking for every song on this CD except "Back Up Off Me" which is an absolutely horrifc song. But only one skippable track is pretty good.

I love this album.......2006-06-29

This is Snoop Dogg's last good album. Paid Tha Cost and R&G were weak, but this album is one of snoops best works. Lay Low is tight. Way better than Drop It Like It's Hot. You also get Wrong Idea, Pump Yo brakes, and Bring It On. This album got the beats, the lyrics, and rhymes that Snoop has to offer. Some other rappers make apperances including Suga Free, Ice Cube, Nate Dogg, and Master P. You just don't get any better than Tha Last Meal. The only song I could say I didn't care for was Snoop Dogg (What's My Name Pt. 2). It was ok nothing good. Whats my name on Doggy Style was better. But the beats are tight with Dr.Dre, Master P, and others that give this album the best sound and making it a Snoop Dogg classic. I recommend this to any Snoop or rap fan. You won't be dissapointed.

To this day I still consider myself a fan of Snoop Doog despite the mediocre albums he's put out recently, he gave us Doggystyle if nothing else. What is difficult to forgive is when he signed to No Limit, I understand he needed to get away from Death Row, but of all the record labels in America, why No Limit? His first album on the label was terrible but he made a pretty good comeback with No Limit Top Dogg after cutting down on their in house production and appearances. Tha Last Meal falls in between those 2 albums for me, it is a very mixed bag, some great moments, some average and some plain bad songs.

It starts off pretty well Hennesey & Buddah & Snoop Dogg are good tracks, and I love the intro to True Lies, Snoop as a reporter says to Bill Clinton "Now Bill, this yo' nig*a Snoop Dogg, now answer me this, did you fu*k that bit*h or not?", then they cut to Bill's famous denial on TV. Without doubt the best track on the album is the west coast posse cut "Set It Off", it has an excellent beat courtesy of Timbaland and features MC Ren, Ice Cube & Lady of Rage. I also like Lay Low although Master P's verse is uneccesary and wack, the only other songs I listen to are Go Away, Issues, Y'all Gone Miss Me & Loosen' Control (which sounds like he used an old Sonic The Hedgehog sample for the music). The other half of the album I skip, particularly bad are the No Limit group cut Back Up off Me & the horrible singing experiment Leave Me Alone.

Tha Last Meal is a decent album, for me it sits somewhere in the middle of his album releases, (worse than Doggystyle, Tha Doggfather & No Limit Top Dogg, better than the other 3) but I still expect better. Snoop is not a good enough lyricist to carry bad beats and there are a few on this album, it does have a few bangers particularly Set It Off but nothing on the level of earlier classics like Gin & Juice, Bit*h Please etc... I hope his next album due later in 2006 delivers, it apparently has major production from Dre (for the first time since this album), he owes his fans after recent dissapointments. Tha Last Meal is one for Snoop fans to check out, but just don't expect anything exceptional.

THIS IS ONE OF MY WORST ALBUMS I THOUGHT AFTER ALL THESE YEARS SNOOP COULD COME UP WITH SOMETHING BETTER THAN THIS. THERE IS SOME TIGHT SONGS ON IT. GET 2001 ARE ELSE STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON. TRY A NEW BAND CALLED JURASSIC 5 THAT ARE TOP NOTCH THEY BRING A WHOLE NEW MEANING TO HIP-HOP. TRY SOME MC-REN STUFF IT'S VERY UNDERATED.

hey yo, they call me mike... its my name. snoop dogg's album tha last meal is hot ****. i HIGHLY RECOMMEND purchasing this cd. its hot beats, great lyrics and all around hot songs make it a necessity. you cant really explain its greatness but if you buy the cd with some extra change or whatever youll see what i mean. youll be addicted to it. i also suggest you try memphis bleek, the understanding. i found that cd to soothing to my soul as well. haha seriously this is a hot cd and if you dont get it youll be dissin the good ole snoopster.
