Even the most high-minded hip-hop connoisseur will have a hard time fronting on the booty-bounce directive, "Shake Ya Ass," surely one of 2000's most memorable songs. The lead single off Mystikal's fourth album encapsulates his whole approach: guttural, grunted directives and sexist boasts over some seriously funky production (courtesy Outkast, the Neptunes, and the Medicine Men). Check the tropical backdrop and Nivea-blessed chorus of "Danger" and the wah-wah guitar/808 combo of "Big Truck Boys" for the funk; check nearly every song for that vulgar braggin' and boastin'. The raw bass and slinky rhythm of "Smoked Out" is a nice Southern take on G-funk, and it's a welcome reprieve from the thick "come hither" machismo which dominates much of the other songs. When he's not stroking his ego, though, Mystikal does a good job getting serious too. Uncovering the bad side of the bling, tracks such as "Ain't Gonna See Tomorrow" and "Murderer III" impressively display a more socially aware and mature Mystikal. --Hua Hsu

4 out of 5 stars Rock Solid........2006-01-06

Mystikal developed a totally new style and attitude with this release. Having strayed away from the tank was the beginning of the end however but there were no signs of that on this LP. Great production and great flow make this album a southern must-have.

Notable Tracks:

Danger
Shake Ya Ass
Mystikal Fever
Ain't Gonna See Tomorrow
Neck Uv Da Woods

2 out of 5 stars Lacking.......2005-07-25

Life after No Limit wasn't very kind to Mystikal, and even with the Neptunes production this album isn't very good. The singles, "Shake Ya A*s" and "Danger" are fine, good rap songs, but as a whole the album isn't great. He doesn't have as much to say as he used to, and he spends most of his time bragging about nothing or yelling at nobody in particular for no apparent reason. This was entertaining for a few albums, but it's gotten old and without the No Limit squad, Mystikal has proven pretty one dimensional. A lot of the songs are pretty much the same, and only a few guest appearances lighten up the album. Da Brat and Petey Pablo lend an OK rhyme on "Come and see about me" and the best track is obviously "Neck Uv Da Woodz", where OutKast pretty much does the entire song. Without C-Murder and Master P and the rest of no limit, Mystikal isn't much, even though this was his most commercial success. People wanting to own some Mystikal ought to buy "Mind of Mystikal" or one of his No Limit releases.

3 out of 5 stars Its alright.......2004-12-09

Nothing special, but its OK. Not as good as his previous efforts. The radio hits are OK, [Shake Ya Ass & Danger], but they is only really one song that is "outstanding", being Neck Uv Da Woods (w/ Outkast). There are many songs that are still tight, such as I Rock, I Roll, U Would If U Could, Mystikal Fever, and Ready To Rumble, but not "outstanding". This is not a bad album at all, in fact it duznt have many "bad" tracks, but Mystikal just hasn't put enough into it. Better than latter releases though. A good listen, so still pick this cd up even if you are just a rap fan, but don't expect too much from it.

2 out of 5 stars I have 2 words for this CD.......2004-09-29

And that's broken record! The last CD Mystikal did before dis (Ghetto Fabulous)was off tha chains! This one ain't! For instance, the first track is pretty much like the 7th one except it's like a clean remix. He doesn't yell as much which he's known for. If it was produced from no limit then maybe it would rise a lil higher to impressive. Now he has his greatest hits oot while serving time.

4 out of 5 stars THIS ALBUM IS THA SHIZNIT.......2004-09-12

This album is awesome i've had this album for like over a year n a half now and i still listen to it like every day this alum would definitely be in the top 30 out of all my albums. the best songs are "shake ya a**", "ready to rumble", "jump", "danger", "i rock, i roll" & my fave "mystikal fever".

Album Description

The Russian Futurists' Matthew Adam Hart is recognized by critics and the public alike as one of the most impressive compositional minds to emerge in years - the romantic eye of a Stephen Merritt or Leonard Cohen married to the epic melodic sweep of recent Flaming Lips or vintage Human League. Let's Get Ready To Crumble, his second album from 2003, is full of the wide-eyed wonder and musical adventurousness that makes The Russian Futurists one of the most reverently spoken about new names in pop. In songs like 'It's Actually Going To Happen' and 'It's Not Really Cold When It Snows', one can only conclude that Hart has simply become better in every way - while still adhering to the low-budget, lone-gun approach of his debut. Darla. 2003.

5 out of 5 stars Exceedingly Awesome.......2005-04-22

Adam Hart is one clever dude. "Let's Get Ready to Crumble" draws heavily on classic 60's and 70's pop and he even namechecks the Beatles. This record is nothing revolutionary, but it's completely unprententious and ridiculously catchy. All Hart wants to do is create totally cohesive and pristine pop music. On paper, this sort of bedroom pop music sounds like the Postal Service but in practice it's much, much better. It's irresistably charming, and only a seriously humorless (...) could find something to hate about it.

5 out of 5 stars nice, fresh sound.......2004-04-17

Just imagine what happens when you blend the 80s psychedelic rock like the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays and today's electro, like Ladytron-you get a fresh new sound, not so programmed like today's popular electro pop. It'll bringing some nostalgic moments from the 80s. Those who did not grow up on songs from the 80s British psychedelic rock would still find this music refreshing. I see Urban Outfitters playing this CD creating a "hip" and "trendy" atmosphere to reflect the store. I don't know if that's good or bad. You decide.

Very original, fun, clever, and most of all just great music. From the beginnning of the first track to the end of the last this cd is filled with amazing lyrics, cool, clever, and often honest. Its impossible to pick a favorite track on this cd theyre all so great. i guess i could say the standouts are 1,3,6,7,9,and 10. (i love the shotgun in track 10, and the mario coin sound in 7) give it a listen and youll be addicted, if you turn this up really loud in your car people may think what the hell is he listening to?!?!? give it a listen, like one song and youll love them all BUY TO IT NOW!!! i sort this music into genre FU$%#CKING SWEET!!!

MYSTIKAL IS THE BEST HE'S CAME A LONG WAY AND I'M SO GLAD HE LEFT MASTER STUPID P.MASTER P I DON'T LIKE YOU (YOUR WACK)MYSTIKAL IS FINE WHERE HE IS BEFORE I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT MYSTIKAL WAS TALKING ABOUT.BEFORE HE WAS LIKE BLAH BLAH BLAH AND NOW HE SAYS HE'S WORDS CLEAR AND THAT MAKES HIM THE BEST RAPPER OUT THERE.JAY-Z IS OKAY BUT MYSTIKAL COMES FIRST AND I LOVE YOU MYSTIKAL YOU GO BOY.

4 out of 5 stars Mystikal Best Work To Date.......2000-10-30

What makes this album so good is quite simply that you pay for a album by Mystikal and thats exaactly what you get unlike his last two efforts where almost every song contained guest rappers. Which is fine if your style is of rapping is straight foward but with Mystikal he is at his best when he has the whole track to himself and he is allowed to do his natural flow a perfect example of this is in the tracks Jump and Aint Gonna See Tomorrow where he shows the listners why he deserves much more limelight than he has received in the past .What also makes this album so good is that the beats come for a variety of producers so unlike his No Limit albums there is a real difference between the songs he even teams up with his producer from his first album Presice for a track .So without a doubt if you are a Mystikal fan this is a must have what makes this even more sweet is that by the end of the album you are left with the feeling that as a rapper he is still to reach his full potential and yet even if this album is not as good as he one day will do it still buries 90percent of the albums in the market these days

5 out of 5 stars Mystikal's Best.......2000-09-28

Mystikal has proven to us on this CD that he is No Limits Finest. His Up Tempo Beats, Ear Catchin Lyrics and Wild Style are just some of the things you will notice on his album. On this CD, Mystikal goes all out like on the Hot Summer Jam " Shake Ya A** " which is one of my favorite tracks on the Cd along with Danger(Been So Long), Jump, I Rock I Roll,Ain't Gonna See Tomorrow, Murderer III and Family. You Will Also notice that this album doesn't feature as many other artist as any of his past CD's. On This CD there's the song "Danger" which features Nivea and the song "Come See About Me" which feature Da Brat and Petey Pablo. As I said before this is Mystikal's best CD and if you buy it you will get more than your moneys worth.

ONCE AGAIN THE MAN I'VE BEEN ADMIRING, SINCE HE FELL OUT WITH U.N.L.V., HAS PUT OUT AN OFF THA CHAIN CD. MYSTIKAL IS BACK TO THE MYSTIKAL HE WAS BEFORE NO LIMIT AND I REALLY LOVE HIM FOR THAT. THERE WASN'T REALLY ANYTHING WRONG WITH MYSTIKAL WHILE HE WAS IN NO LIMIT, BUT GHETTO FABULOUS JUST WAS HIM. TRUTHFULLY I DIDN'T LIKE IT, BUT I BOUGHT AND I CHERISH IT JUST BECAUSE IT'S MYSTIKAL AND I LOVE HIM. THIS CD IS 100% MYSTIKAL AND IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT YOU SHOULD GET ASAP. IT'S SIMPLY OUTSTANDING!!!

4 out of 5 stars He only has 10 fingers! Really--only 10........2006-03-13

Tom Constanten composes and plays the ragtime of the gods, and this CD includes one of his best--the 'San Andreas Stomp', from his US bicentenial suite, 'The Syntax Collector'. If only he'd included the rest of it this CD would be auditory Nirvanna. Many other wonderful things too including some electronically prepared keyboard pieces, some classical piecies (including a lovely Bach), and some splendidly played Grateful Dead tunes (Tom's is one of my favorite recordings of 'Dark Star'). But the treasures are Tom's own compositions including 'Encodex Punctilious'. And is piano chops are close to unbelievable. Some of these pieces are technically unplayable for most earthling pianists.
You'll never know how much you need this CD 'till you get it.

4 out of 5 stars good for long trips.......2006-01-30

Tom Constanten
88 Keys to Tomorrow
Gaff Music GAFF0511
Among these 21 cuts are ten Constanten originals, a Chopin, a Bach, a Haydn, a Curtis Mayfield, a Jerry Garcia and several explorations of traditional, classical forms. Some are recorded on real pianos and others on electronic keyboards. There is no instrument preference evident. This is a recorded love affair between a man and the keyboard as a basic musical instrument form.
They're good for stride and ragtime, so Constanten plays and plays with stride and ragtime on "San Andreas Stomp." Vince Guaraldi (Charlie Brown cartoon themes)certainly developed a style for keyboard, so Constanten flirts with the Guaraldi style on "Land of the Hassled and Free." Gospel fervor and confidence can certainly be expressed well with a strong left hand on the piano, so "People Get Ready." And so on through 21 examples of how to best use keyboards to create audio beauty. What is most amazing about this record is that, with all the respect for and knowledge of composers displayed throughout, Constanten is constantly himself. There is a warm wit about his playing, even on the most traditional numbers, that is wholly unique.
More than pleasant to the average ear, this CD and accompanying liner notes are a textbook for those interested in the more technical aspects of music and music recording. In describing one piece, Constanten asks, "When was the last time you encountered stretto and inversion at the same time?" Frankly, I don't have a clue, but for those who do, I presume it's a novel and grand experience. Recorded in several locations between '88 and '94, the album has surprising continuity . . . Bach and Garcia, Yamaha Clavinola and Bosendorfer get along better than one might think, and this, too, is made possible by the highly extroverted character of the artist.
I believe this one will be particularly good for long trips and rainy afternoon dozes.

5 out of 5 stars Fire from Lindholm.......2001-11-17

This set contains four records with two abridged live performances. I have as yet only listened to the performance from 1974. This is one of the first pirated records to appear with the Swedish dramatic soprano Berit Lindholm. Let us hope that recordings from the Ring conducted by Sir Colin Davis at Covent Garden will appear soon! Meanwhile this Tristan from Amsterdam 1974 fills the gap with a truly amazing dramatic force. You can feel the amazement and tension among the public, crying out their "bravos" at the end. This is Lindholm's evening and a great one ideed. Totally involved in her part she becomes Isolde and everything catch fire... No Wagnerian or other opera lover can be without these records. The first two CD's concentrates on the part of Isolde (1974).The performance from 1979 (not with Lindholm)concentrates on the tenor, Spas Wenkoff - more comments will follow when I have listened to that. For the moment, the 5 stars are for the 1974 recording.
