My first encounter with Jon Huck, mastermind of the duo, was an online radioshow he hosted. I was stunned by the tracks he played - there was stuff from all around the world - a string of never ending pop gems. That made me curious and I checked his website at mp3.com! After checking his tracks I bought the CD! The Fur Ones' music is the result of researching the whole world for good and tasty sounds and tunes. The melodies are great - the soundscapes are dense. There are popsongs AND little gems that remind the listener of the stuff on "Smile", the lost Beach Boys album. The poptunes come alive thru the vocals of Christina, who sings sweet and unpretentious, a counterweight to the overladen crooner style thats so popular today. Eine wundervolle CD, um es noch mal auf Deutsch zu sagen. Es wäre wünschenswert, das mehr leute diese band hören würden!

if the first 2 albums were any idea of how good this one would be--buying it owuld be a no brainer--the melodies mixed with excelent vocals make this an album to share with all your friends--since no one knows this band, let's get the word out

The Monorail / People Chasing People - Visit Pell Mell.......2007-03-03

Deliriously poppy and perennially enjoyable, any wish of glimpsing a great deal of substance is not about to be realised here. Essentially a joint venture from two bands that have the same line-up anyway, Visit Pell Mell is an exercise in the gleefully vacant aspects of rock and roll. But aside from the sheer and harshly involving aesthetic of the record lurks a rather exciting urgency and quirkiness that quickly becomes very appealing. On The Monorail's The X's Meet The Y's, the burbling threat of complete electronic take-over makes a remarkably interesting counterbalance to the disco drums that prevail.

There isn't a great deal to separate these two groups, but this works in their favour. The atmosphere on Visit Pell Mell is one of great camaraderie and genial fellowship rather than real musical furthering. This could have been a natural opportunity for these acts to really experiment with their respective sounds, but they stick, leech-like, to their guns. The small dabs of electronic devilry should have been a focus for development, but the simple adherence to the pop-punk dynamic is as far as we get. There are moments of experimentation, namely People Chasing People's Spiders, which work very well indeed, coming off as a lighter ...Trail of Dead. Both bands really need to maximise the drama that they are capable of conveying. When they get it right (and both bands do on more than one occasion) they are pretty exciting.

The lyrical sentiments deserve a mention as well because they are, frankly, funny and weird. The closing song, Two Pianos, is literally about two pianos having a fight. It's reflective and off-the-wall in a pleasant way without being annoyingly quirky. Throwaway references to Bill Watterson and the line `Oh, it's a tragedy when anybody sees their insides open wide' make this a cleverly constructed other world of a record, ideal for escaping into at night.

A touching desire to keep music fresh and independent (these four guys run the record label together, tour together, get drunk together and all the other stuff too) is one of the most endearing aspects of this record. Their clear and simple goal is to make music together and let people hear it. Throw in some potentially great songs and musical ideas and you have a mini-dynasty that deserves to expand and be heard by all.
