Their first album, "Heart Of Art", was recorded on tape over a span of 1.5 years in Commerce and Cabbagetown, GA. The band has taken every effort to ensure that their merchandise meets the highest ethical standards. The album is packaged entirely in 100% PCW recycled paper and printed with soy-based ink by a worker-owned press in Oregon, USA. This CD is truly an experience. The songs individually are beautiful and moving, and taken as a whole it sets a heartbreaking but uplifting mood. It is good enough to listen to alone with headphones and nothing else, or to put on in the background. The lyrics are unique and paint a rich landscape of the south, but avoid being pretentious or overly wrought. I would list standout tracks, but over many listenings, each one has separated itself in its own way.

There is such beauty to this CD, you can't help but be transported by listening to it. I can't even describe it well enough. You will NOT regret buying this CD. If you have the chance to see them live, go!

music to move your soul. Hope for agoldensummer came out of no were and moved my soul, this music is so strong so powerfull it sometimes makes me cry. ITs rare to see a band live who is just as good live as they are on there cd and this is one of those bands If you want an album that will move and awaken your soul then this is the cd for you!

THE BEST BAND IN ATHENS?.......2005-08-26

Yes, "Hope for a Goldensummer" (H-FAG) is definitely the best band in Athens, GA, and that it quite an accomplishment if one takes into account the excellent bands coming from that town (REM, Love Tractor, Pylon). I lived in Athens for one year, and I was lucky to see them 4 times live... Believe me: the music of this band is magical. It's honest, deep, intelligent and made with the heart. They have done what few achieve: play their songs in a way that people like it, and express their feeling in a way that people understand. They communicate what they want to say in a perfect manner. This band deserves to be BIG, to be on the Billboard, and become a well-known band. If you decide to buy the album, listen to the last song "Laying down the gun"... polyphonic perfection!!

If this wonderful quintet decides to honor your town by playing there, be sure to not miss it.

An amazing album...one of the best of any genre. DEEP EastBay Cali Street Funk. The beats are sick, production super tight, E-40 at the top of his, or anyone else's, game. He's spittin, as usual, on totally another level...flows like water while stayin hard as nails and hot as fire...too fast only if you're listenin too slow. Listen to this one and then listen again. Why does E-40 keep making these sick albums? Cause He Can! Man I tell ya, this is one of E-40's best albums, maybe even THEE best. Not too many artists can match E-40's style, as a matter of fact no one can spit it like Charlie Hu$tle. Every song on this CD is tight the beats are crazy, this is definitly the best production ever on an E-40 album. And of course 40-Watta comes with his ever-so-sick, one-of-a-kind rapping style. For all of you who say that E-40 raps too fast, he's not rappin' too fast yall just listenin' too slow (that's real). He even puts the lyrics in the CD booklet for all you squares out there. Like I was saying all the tracks are sick and there's no skits, so you don't have to skip anything. The songs that really stand out are; L.I.Q., ...They Nose, Seasoned, Earl That's Yo' Life, Rules & Regulations, Big Ballin' With My Homies, and Ghetto Celebrity. There are also a lot of great guest appearances by Jayo Felony, C-Bo, Sauce Money, Fat Joe, Cash Money Millionairs, and of course The Click. I'm from the Bay Area and that's probably why I like E-40 so much, but I like all kinds of rap. It just seems to me that people are always saying that there are too many copy cats in the rap game. Well, if you want something original E-40 is your man!

Not many people out here in Massachusetts like Earl 'E-40' Stevens, and that's their loss! The man is an incredible MC, one of the greatest to grace a mic, and he's in top form on this banger. The production is funky, and e-40 is relentless with his lyrics. I recommend this not only to gangsta rap fans, but fans of real hip hop, too. Give it a few listens, even if you are Joe Art School Backpack, this stuff will grow on you.

I read that she wrote this album starting at the age of 15 and then produced the album at the age of 17 and 18 years old??? And i'm even more surprised with how amazing her new follow up album is. Saving the best for first.......2006-02-26

Six Going on Seven's first two albums rule, especially this one. Kind of Jawbox and Hot Water Music, but more melodic with jangly guitars, especially in the classic "Method Actor". Melodic math rock. Kind of like Chamberlain or Texas is the Reason. If you've heard of any of these bands you'll love this album. I just had to write something because its been 7 years.

From Boston, these three guys deserve to be heard. Unfortunately, no one knows who they are.

This album is a classic slab of fill-in-the-blank-core (i hate those -core labels...). It's remnant of Fugazi, with a pinch of blues tossed in (mostly in the vocals.) The bass lines are some of the most inventive you're gonna hear, and deservedly very prominent in the mix. Give these guys a chance, you won't regret it.

Awesome CD! The lyrics are not stellar, and sometimes Josh (the lead singer) has a hard-to-understand voice, but putting all that aside, this Boston-based band is going to make it big!

HIS BEST YET!.......2006-10-01

I'm a big fan of blues and have always liked Studebaker John's music. To be equally adept at guitar, harp, singing, and writing is no small feat, but he always seems to pull it off. "Self Made Man" is his best CD to date, full of great tunes. His guitar playing seems to have been raised to a new level here. It is just outstanding. His band just chugs right along with him.My only complaint is I had to special order the disc. His record company should get more of them out there. Buy it, believe me you won't regret it.

A fantastic CD from an original bluesman!.......2006-07-14

I was fortunate enough to catch Studebaker John & the Hawks live a few weeks ago at the Highway 99 Blues Club in Seattle and was totally blown away! This was the first time I had ever seen anyone play kicking, funky rhythm guitar with one hand and scorching blues harmonica with the other hand all at the same time! When he put down his harmonica and picked up his guitar slide, I was blown away all over again! During this performance, Studebaker John played most of the songs from the Self-Made Man CD. I can attest that the CD is true to his live performance. His songs are well crafted, his lyrics are entertaining and his timing is impeccible! If you like funky, hard-edged blues with incredible harmonica and slide guitar, this CD is a must-have! I like every song on the CD, but "Self-Made Man", "The Hard Way" and "Hoo Doo You" are my favorites. Highly recommended!

Absolutely necessary in any Jazz Collection.......2000-07-06

This was the first Schifrin CD I ever bought ... as a result of this decision, a lot of money has since changed hands. Great solid introduction to the music from mission:impossible, previously unreleased material along with great recordings of various soundtracks. Top tracks include 'The Cat' from Jimmy Smith, and 'Jim on the Move' for it's shuffle. As a result of listening to this CD you will SURELY then buy 'Bullitt', 'Bossa Nova Groove' and the original 'CAT'. This is all wrapped up in a great inlay with interesting reading and photos.... enjoy!

A power-punk masterpiece. They are even better live. Which begs the question... Where has China Drum gone?? Did they break up??

When I first heard this record, I was a little disapointed because the last one 'Goosefair' is one of my all time favourite albums, but after a while it really sings through. The opening tracks 'One thing' and 'Guilty Deafness' are not typical China D but convey a more darker side to the band, but not that dark to be not China Drum. From then on it gets more happier and typically China Drum , particularly 'Fiction of Life','All I wanna Be'and 'Down by the River'. The track that makes this album however is 'Stop it all adding up', thisa is one of the best songs I have ever heard. This album is great and a great follow up to the last effort, I can't wait to see what comes next.

This is what it's all about; since the Clash vacated their crown there's been a void in the music scene that's been fleetingly filled by a few bands, early Public Enemy, Janes Addiction, Living Colour, Nirvana and Manic St Preachers to name a few, however some shockingly bad attempts at "punk" have been shifting millions of units to the kids, god knows why when there's a band like China Drum out there, if they don't make it then there's no hope for this generation. This albumn is faultless, "fiction of life" is an anthem for the late nineties, "Down by the River", "60 Seconds" what a record, and I foolishly thought that their cover of "Wuthering heights" couldn't be bettered before the millenium, well they've written a whole albumn to prove me wrong.

Don't let my my words influence your possible purchase of this album (or any other album by China Drum);however, I will tell you that you won't find another punk album with the combination of hard-core drama and shear beauty that this album achieves. The well-written lyrics deserve an "A" also. Move the outta the way all of you MTV "generation X", punk-wanna-be, novelty bands!! China Drum is the real deal......"Self Made Maniac" deserves a perfect rating because the album provides a variety of styles and spontenuity within each song. Check out "fiction of life" and "all i wanna be". This is a hard core punk band;however, the lyrics and instrumentation are clear (as well as beautiful)...illustrating an ACTUAL talent (were as some "punk" bands get off on nonsense screaming, and lyrics about beating someone up at a party). Check China Drum out...for your sake!
