About the Artist
"Stand for something or fall for anything" this is the mind state of Lamar Bradford (Furious Stylz), Gordon Whitman (G or Da Don), and Carlos Evans (Los) collectively know as Against the Fake (A.T.F.). Against the Fake started in 1997 in Anniston Alabama as a combination of solo artist. Their chemistry for writing and performing together forced these solo artists to combine as one group. When asked why the group took the name of Against the Fake they replied, "in order to be taken serious in the music industry you have to stand for something. We stand for all the real people, the little people, the forgotten people, the voiceless, faceless majority of youth with a voice that seems to be mute to the world's ears."

Thinking back over the years, the group has struggled to keep their dream alive. I can recall times when they were flat broke and were forced to use a 'hot plate' and a 'teakettle' to keep warm while putting together their first attempt at an album. After several kids, a marriage, a dismissed member, 3 different recording companies, and numerous lost jobs later, the group remains as strong as ever and will continue to strive for their stardom.

Another awesome CD by Darrell Evans. This CD hasn't left my CD player since I got it. It is a gift to be able to write and sing lyrics that bring people closer with God....and Darrell has that gift. Wonderful!

In his latest CD release, Uncharted Waters, Darrell Evans shows us why we fell in love with his music and his heart for worship!(Remember Trading My Sorrows, Freedom, Let the River Flow, Fields of Grace?) I love the new version of track#4 When I Pray, and the lyrics and music are incredible on Track#2 Ready to Fly. I cannot stop listening to this CD and am thrilled with my purchase.

Following the Old Gold 1999 release Brilliant Concert Numbers, Uncharted Waters spans 10 years of recording in New York, Northampton and San Francisco, and features both interstellar songwriting ("Cold Weather," "Leave Me Alone," "Too Bad Luck," "Puzzle Piece", "Shark Attack," and "Life Isn't Fun Anymore") and bold instrumentals (he plays nearly every instrument). Coming on the heels of Domino's reissue of Sebadoh III, Uncharted Waters is a powerful affirmation of the former release's free-wheeling, DIY attitude. ("We can do whatever we want - we're the Beatles," Gaffney reportedly said during recording of III.) Gaffney founded Sebadoh after self-releasing The Freed Man tape with Dinosaur Jr.'s Lou Barlow in September 1988 and signing with Homestead. In 1989, Jason Loewenstein joined Sebadoh and the trio released Sebadoh III. Gaffney's angular guitar style, jazzy drumming, bizarre lyrics, collage artwork, and album titles (Bubble & Scrape, Sebadoh Vs. Helmet, Smash Your Head on the Punk Rock, and Rockin' The Forest) were integral to the group myth, as well as the irreverent, unpredictable switch-off nature of their live performances.

I heard Calvin play live several years ago the same songs on this CD. He is an intense and passionate pianist and this energy is reflected in his music. For anyone interested in beautiful piano solos, you will find Calvin's music to be both relaxing and exhilarating. His talent for both composing and performing is exceptional and I look forward to a new release.
