SPM hollar at him.......2006-01-23
I been a fan of SPM music since '96. I ain't trying to hate on this one, but this is his weakest cd. His production and Filero's production has'nt changed since the Hustle Town cd. This is mostly freestyles from Spm and Dopehouse family and not one song really stands out. Track 15 is probably the best and 17 is good but it sounds like you're listening to a tape. Some rhymes stand out and Spm shows he can freestyle, but the beats sound weak. Spm says this album was done in two days. They should've put more work on the music before releasing this cd.
this is one bomb ass CD
A Real Latin Entrepeneur: SPM.......2003-04-22
Tight beats, dope lyrics and done in 2 DAYS! What a skilled man. This is not your typical comercial sh!+, it's just gangsta. Support the latin hip hop movement. Go cop it. You won't be dissapointed.
Best CD so far..........2002-06-17
this CD is the BEST he has came up with so far...even though not all the songs are freestyle, they still tight! this is a cd you can bump to over and over again and not get boring. Specially the songs "Houston to Dallas", "Screwed up Tape", and "Cool Enough", they the best! SPM speaks nothing but the truth, and thats what makes it tight! even though he's locked up right now, he's coming out with a new CD and a new book, and i know the CD is gonna be even better! his exact words were "its gonna make knees weak!"....Look out for it!
pretty good for 2 days work!.......2002-06-04
This is certainly one of SPM's best work. I cannot get that cd out of my car cd player, its been three weeks!I listen to it all the time. Tracks 9,10,and 15 are one of the best I've heard. The rapper who sounds Jamaican definitely adds a great distinct reggae flavor and accentuates the variety a little bit. A Definite buy for those who like freestyle cutz!
SPM is back..........2002-05-19
SPM is back with a new album which supposedly consists of freestyle sessions. There are a few songs that are definitely freestyles but for the most part it seems orchestrated. SPM's last album ('Never Change', which was released in late 2001) did not live up to his previous efforts. This time SPM steps up his game a bit. While this album is levels above his last album, it still isn't as good as it could be. There are three songs that really stand out - tracks 7, 15, 16, and 17. The rest seems like filler. The production is bland, relying on repetative keyboard sequences. Shadow Ramirez, Filero are the album's best producers. Enlisting the help of Happy Perez would probably have helped a bit. If you're a diehard fan, you will probably like this album. If not, you're better buying previous albums, excluding 'Time is Money' and 'Never Change'.

A Wonderful Preview.......2000-11-14
For those of you not familiar w/ Helicon, they are a Baltimore based trio that specializes in spreading the joy and beauty of international music. The group consists of Chris Norman, a world renown wooden flute player (he does classical music as well), Ken Kolodner, an incredible hammer dulcimerist and fiddler who also happens to have a P.h.d, and Robin Bullock, a magnificent guitarist, citernist, and fiddler, who actually started out in rock music. Anyway, the group has since begun to explore other interests so they no longer tour together, but that doesnt mean that their music is dead. In fact, it is alive and well on this recording. Track 1 is played by Norman on a type of double barreled flute that makes it sound like 2 flutes are playing, creating a truly unique sound. The second half of track 1 has a much simpler beat, but is still just as pleasing to the ear. Track 2 is a pair of beautiful Peruvian pieces that begin w/ a simple hammer dulcimer rhythm, but eventually adds in complexity, until the texture is truly South American. Next, they move to Sweden, a country rich in its fiddling, and perform two polskas. Although this CD does these pieces justice, the way they perform them is even better (they move their bodies to accent the dynamic changes in a sort of call and respond manner). Track 5 finally gets to some of the traditional Irish and American reels that have begun to find its place in mainstream America nowadays. They certainly do celtic music justice. Next, "Mr. Pantaleish" is perhaps the most mysterious piece on this recording, and it is truly haunting. Track 7 returns to America, where they play an old American fiddle tune, and a tune that they learned from Freyda Epstein, a brilliant musician from Virginia. All in all, this is a great recording, and is only a preview of what this incredible trio would accomplish in the coming years that they toured together. You will notice that this recording almost sounds like there is a concert in your room, because the music is pure. There is only limited audio enhancing machines used which makes the music all that much better. I highly encourage anyone to buy this CD, and to also check out Helicon's recordings, as well as the member's solo efforts. You will never tire of this stuff.

Decatur, GA.......2005-07-28
Ghetto Mafia's third album, Straight From The Dec, is a display of Nino and Wicked's grind for nationwide success. The album's spotlight, "For The Good Times (Straight From The Dec)", with a blues sample and the Mafia stop and go flow is an instant eye opener. They also take a Jamican, Reggae-like approach with a heavy bassline on "Who Wanna Test". Hearing the name 'Wicked' being yelled out almost works as a gimmick. The duo tag team on a verse for the gangster funk "I Can Feel It" and could have been used throught the song. Straight From The Dec starts off with and maintains it's high expectations from the opener "In Da Paint". The Mafia talk about their hustling and struggles being in the 'trap' as done on "Fool I Got Ya " and many other subjects within this lp. Their lyrics are direct and simple with a southern slang that are strong enough to keep your attention.
Straight from the Dec is too tight!.......2000-03-19
This album contains some of the phattest lyrics I have ever heard by Ghetto Mafia, it is also one of my favorites. I always said that nobody could stop Ghetto Mafia's Blues Rap combination and my point is proven with every album they bring out.

Customer Reviews:
Great compositions - Terrific performances - Killer CD.......2002-02-02
You know that feeling of hopeful expectation when you listen to a cd for the first time. Well, "People Here" doesn't disappoint. The music is engaging and challenging, and not at all predictable. The different tracks vary in content and style and yet they all hang together.
Oscar Peterson once said of his phrasing, "It's not just a series of notes played in a particular manner, it's a place I go to". Well, these guys go to some great places ...some new, some familiar ...and I feel privileged to accompanying them.
Upon subsequent listenings, you really appreciate the musicianship of each member of this quintet, and how he supports and blends so effectively with the others. These guys work really well together.
And, the CD is not just a collection of track, it's a production in itself. It plays well from start to finish. Very, very well done! I'm not nearly finished exploring all the nuances of this terrific CD, and yet I look forward to hearing more from this burgeoning musical force.
Terrific, original jazz -- Well worth the listen.......2002-01-14
When I first picked up this CD and saw that it was the first recording effort for the Chad Anderson Quintet, I thought it would be yet another "clunky" project. Boy, was I surprised!
The sensitivity of this group really comes across in the widely varied tunes they composed and performed. Their interpretations are extremely tasteful--and their musicianship surely made listening to this CD for the first time a true pleasure. I have listened to it over and over; each time it gets better--I hear something new--and continue to be amazed at the musical ability of the group members and the way they are able to play so "tightly" at times and so musically "loose" at others.
To start, Chad Anderson has accomplished a major coup to assemble these young musicians for this session. Plus, he found just the right way to blend each member's personal compositions into the CD's makeup. I look forward to more recordings from this group. One recommendation would be for them to record a group of standards with which most of us are familiar, as well. That way, we could compare their styles and their interpretations with other recordings in our collections.
Chad Anderson, as the drummer for this project, displays terrific musicality, sensitivity, and flexibility throughout each number. He seems to know what's going to happen before it occurs, then accents that instant in just the right way. Chris Parker on piano is, quite obviously, a highly seasoned pianist and composer, because he doesn't over-play and overshadow the group. This is not always easy, but Parker pulls it off in style.
The bassist, Jonathan Wires, though, gets five stars for his mastery of the string bass -- not just from the craft of his musicianship and his stellar compositional capacity, but for his interpretations. He is like an artist wielding a brush who is painting a masterpiece--and we, the listeners, are on-hand for the occasion. Jonathan plays as though he is seasoned well beyond his years.
All in all, this CD gets a top rating. Surely, this group will give us more!!
