The Mo' Thugs Mothership is the third release in a series of Bone Thugs 'n' Harmony offshoot projects. Layzie Bone executive-produced this hot-and-cold 16-cut album, which aims to usher in Bone-approved rap talent. Ironically, the best tracks here come from original Bone Thugs members, like Flesh Bone's "If I Can Go Back," with its melodious vocal harmonies and triple-time rhymes. The crew's protégés are less capable. The Desperidos' pedestrian Mystikal-like rants on "Who Forgot About It" or "Total Kaos" take away from solid efforts like Ken Dawg's "It Don't Stop." Mo Thugs...Starting to Disapoint.......2006-03-15

The first 2 Mo Thugs albums(Family Scriptures/Family Reunion) were overall pretty decent albums. The same can't really be said for The Mothership. After Family Reunion Krayzie Bone left and Layzie Bone took over at Mo Thugs. Krayzie Bone brought a much needed mainstream sound to the Mo Thugs family that Layzie just doesn't seem to have. The whole point of Mo Thugs was to showcase up and coming rap artist. However, in order to properly showcase these artist and make most people want to listen it needs to have at least some of that mainstream sound. The Mothership is pure hardcore gangsta rap. Now if that is your thing then this album might be for you. The only two songs that I thought stood out were Did He Really Wanna? feat. the Desperidos and This Ain't Livin' feat. Felecia who by the way has an incredible voice.

VOL 3 THE MOTHERSHIP

The third of four so far in a series of releases from Mo Thugs, this time out though it is only Layzie that is reppin that Mo Thug. Krayzie dipped out around this time to create Thug Line Records, and it seems he took that mainstream sound with him as this album is mostly hard gangsta type tracks.

1.WHO FORGOT ABOUT IT-the first track comes out bangin with a nice beat by THIN C, it makes u think u are on a ship controlled by the Mo Thug crew. The track is by a group of rappers called the DESPERIDOS, the group includes LAYZIE BONE. Lyrically it's the same old thang, straight hard, gangsta raps, which is just fine no one has ever said that Mo was more than that. But this track makes u all the more excited to hear the rest of the album. 4.5/5

2.SELDOM SEEN-the artists on this track share the same name as the title of the song, and like the previous track it's that hard g sh#t that they come with. Of course that's what most have come to expect from Mo Thug albums. It also seems that Layzie is back to rep on this track, as well as some one named TN TEE. The hook on this track is pretty tight, and fits the west coast influenced beat well. Thin C returns to drop something completely different from the first track. Over all this is a nice track to bump. 3.8/5

3.LAST LAUGH-the EMMORTAL THUGS pop up on this one along side FREAKY G to deliver a very Bone Thug type track. The flows on this track from the rappers are very reminiscent of their mentors on this one, very fast paced with nice word play. The beat from RICH E fits the flow of the song very well, and is a nice back drop for these Thuggish Ruggish rappers. 4/5

4.THE BACKYARD-why is it that everyone wants their kids to be rappers, please someone tell me? This track comes courtesy of Layzie's son JEREMY. To be honest I really ain't feeling him, his flow seems off at times and rhymes seem to pre k. to those who would say well he is a kid, they should check a certain someone on "PUMP PUMP" from Snoop's "DOGGYSTYLE" album. As expected Layzie comes threw on this song, and adds some much needed improvement to this track. Rich E returns to drop a nice instrumental, I think it was a shame to waste it on this song. 2.5/5

5.GUNLINE-to my surprise I hear a member of DOGGY'S ANGELS saying "Dogghouse" at the beginning of this track, and yet of course no verses from the Angels, figures. But we do get to hear the Desperidos and BLACK HOLE OF WATTS on this track, lyrically the song is nice but the hook is to plain. The beat from MIKE SMOOV does sound real tight except for the snare, other than that it's tight.3.5/5

6.WANNA BE BALLERS-a potential single comes threw on this one, a very bouncy r&b track comes nice on this album. The excellent beat by Rich E is the first standout on this track, in fact it is actually my favorite thing about this song. The artists involved are an all female group called POTION, they are like TLC with the two singers and one rapper thing going down. At times it sounds like they are trying to hard, the rapper in particular isn't the greatest lady mc ever. To me she sounds like the artists from Doggy's Angels just without the same lyrical ability and charisma, she does do an ok job though. Over all this could have fared well with the mainstream audience, it kinda sounds pop like. 4/5

7.IT DON'T STOP-Mo Thugs vet KEN DAWG comes threw to lace this smooth sounding track. production wise this was the biggest surprise of the album, the beat in particular is nice and very smooth sounding. The surprise came with learning that former DEATHROE RECORDS producer DARREN VEGAS laced this instrumental. The sound of this track is very different then what he released on Tha Row. Lyrically this track is nice too, Ken Dawg holds it down toning down his flow a little to match the beat. Over all a nice track.3.8/5

8.UDON'T WANT NONE-the Emmortal Thugs return along side Freaky G, and CAPONE to drop this fast paced track. to be honest I really don't listen to this track, not that it's bad or any thing. In fact it's pretty good, all flows are on point, and the beat from Thin C is pretty tight. But for some reason I don't listen to it, although I like the hook, the beat sounds tight.3.5/5

9.THIS AIN'T LIVIN'-probably my favorite track off of the album, and to my surprise Darren Vegas produced this song. He did an excellent job on this track, and the hook from FELECIA is a great flip on the classic "STREET LIFE". She sounds excellent on this song, especially during her short verse. And the star of the song Layzie bone of course holds it down lyrically, dropping game.5/5

10.DID HE REALLY WANNA-the Desperidos return to hold it down on this track, this is a very Bone Thug sounding song. The artists on this track hold it down nicely, and I love the opening with Layzie repeating "the art of war". The beat from Rich E is superb and I was very impressed with his production on this album. The only thing a little off with this track is the hook. Other then that this is an excellent addition to the album.4/5

11.TOTAL KAOS-I don't really feel the lil intro on the song, it seems like everybody has a drive by at the beginning of a song. But other then that this is a nice track, Thin C who has also impressed me with his production comes threw with this tight beat. I love the drums on this track, it sounds like them war drums from back in the day. Also the Desperidos come with heat on this one, Layzie in particular.4.2/5

12.TIGHEN UP YOUR OPERATION-it seems with the opening of this one it should have been the last track on the album, seeing that they are yelling "last call for the Mothership". That aside this track is tight, the Desperidos return once again dropping heat on this track, and the beat from Thin C is tight as well. This would have been a nice ending to the album, the track sounds very cinematic.4.5/5

13.DOWN FROM THE START-I personally think this is one of the best tracks on the album, it is very smooth west coast influenced. Of course it is though with a group named Black Hole of Watts, I bet u can guess where their from. The beat from Mike Smoov is off of the hook, definitely a highlight for the entire album, the beat follows in the previous tracks lead by sounding very cinematic, I could see this song on a movie.4.5/5

14.2 THE PLAYAZ-this track could have been a wise choice for a single, the track has that platinum feel to it. Though SKANT isn't the best rapper in the world he does shine well with the subject matter here, and he paces himself really well and has a nice sense of melody. Also the stylistic vocals of the great Felecia on this track fits really well, the hook is nice and smooth. Mike Smoov proves himself to be a worthy producer for the industry as he produces one of the smoothest joints I have ever heard, but sounds hard at times as well.4.8/5

15.IF I CAN GO BACK-the track I was waiting for when my girl first came home with this album is the FLESE BONE song. Of course it doesn't disappoint at all, as all things in the track work well together. DAMOND ELLIOT holds it down with a smooth instrumental for Flesh to ride to. And you all know Flesh holds it down with this dedication track to Eazy E {mainly}, 2pac, Biggie, & Big Pun. This is a nice track to chill to.4/5

16.EVERYTHING GREEN-it kinda surprised me to see this song ending the album, not that I' am complaining. The track is actually very tight and a worthy addition to the album, the track is kinda bouncy. That would be courtesy of Rich E & Layzie himself, who also performs this song alone. Of course I' am sure u all guessed what this song is about, every rappers favorite home grown necessity. Over all this is actually one of the best tracks of the album.4.5/5

Since this album has been out for some years now we got pretty cheap, but I wish I would have got it when it first came out, there are some very good tracks on here. Though it may not be as good as the other three Mo Thug albums [or maybe so depending on your taste], it definitely is worth the purchase in my opinion.

This album is pretty good. The best songs are "Backyard", "Gunline", "This Ain't Livin'", "Did He Really Wanna?", "Tighten Up Your Operations", "Down From The Start" & "If I Can Go Back". This album is definitely worth getting.

A pretty solid collection of bangers, with exceptions for the wack female-r&b songs. Layzie Bone did good work at locating talented rappers especially DESPIRADOS are great, LAYZIE also brought his son to the battle-field in the song BACKYARD.
Best songs are: BACKYARD & THE ONES WITH DESPIRADOS.

8 out of 15 songs are strait tight.the rest should have been scraped and replaced with unreleased traxs from the grave yard shift,II tru,souljah boy,and poetic hustlaz and maybe even powder.felicia should of had her own track.and whats up with her album?.anyways i think the artists who left was premature in leaving so soon.krayzie bone aswell.each artist having their own label is kinda stupid.they should of concintrated on the mo'thug records TOGEATHER.obviously krayzie and layzie had conflicting ideas and thats why krayzie probably left.BIG MISTAKE

I am of the biggest Bone fans: I have everything that Bone has EVER came out with. Yes, I even have Faces of Death. I have every single, album, and guest appearances that Bone Thugs and Mo! thugs have done. I have Thug TV and Bone Collection Volume 1, Mo Thugs and Bone are off tha chains! Bone and Mo! thugs are all I listen to. I have many CD, but I listen to Bone and Mo! Thugs constantly.

Remember: Always reach 4 PLATNUM status! As Krayzie Bone said on Thug TV:"Platnum, nothin but Platnum!"

This is a classic tail of Bone Thugs meet more! A uneek style that they have is extended with rnb music and a ruff ryder style rap brought by Desperidos. It is a well produced album which contains 72 minutes and 51 seconds of pure hiphop brilliance. Layzie Bone may be his name but with this compillation it shows he is far from being lazy. His son Jeremy features on the album and surely in a few years time he will be a someone to watch.
