Editorial Reviews
In the spirit of true Hiphop, Jahi has forcefully stepped on the scene dropping lyrics that speak to the mind, body, and soul. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, now residing in the DC area, this lyrically conscious emcee offers audiences a different view of the world of hiphop culture. He creatively blends elements of hope, self determination and positivity with dynamic groove.
Jahi first gained a strong following in the Hiphop underground with his first single release called "Power Moves." He sold 6500 copies of his first single throughout the Midwest, and received heavy rotation on college radio. Jahi's music reached an international audience when he won the BET Teen Summit Talent Showcase in May 1999. In commenting about his performance, former MTV host, Ed Lover said, "He has all the elements of a great MC."
Jahi has had the honor for opening for acts such as KRS-One, Public Enemy, Jay-Z, Goodie Mob, Doug E. Fresh, Bone Thugs and Harmony, Slick Rick, and Outkast. Other accomplishments include: The 1999 Free Times Music Awards for Best hiphop/Rap Act; 1999 Co-Winner of "Hiphop in the Park" hosted by WENZ 107.9fm; featured artist for WJW Fox 8 News "Hiphop Nation," and the BET Night Out/VIP Party's featured artist for the opening of the new hiphop exhibit "Roots, Rhyme, and Rage" at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Most recently, Jahi was a featured artist in the 12 inches of Velvet concert which included Toronto artist, Choclair, the legendary Mix Master Mike from the Beastie Boys, and the Godfather of Noise, Razel from The Roots. The purpose of this event was to raise money and awareness about HIV/AIDS. More than $4000 was raised and donated for AIDS research and prevention programs.
The conscious message that Jahi delivers in his lyrics is also evident in his dedication to community service. Jahi has worked in junior high and high schools for the past 8 years as a gang counselor, cultural awareness instructor, motivational speaker, and conflict resolution trainer. Currently, Jahi works as the consultant for the "Stopping AIDS is My Mission" program at the Aids Task Force of Greater Cleveland. The program educates youth about the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and ways to protect themselves from contracting the virus and other sexually transmitted diseases.
Jahi has released his first album entitled "Higher Elevation" on local-based Wreckanize Records/Two Sons Entertainment. In addition, Jahi will be on the road with his Hiphop 2000 Tour at colleges, universities, and clubs throughout the country. Upcoming projects include a book of essays called "Everyone Has a Story to Tell," a cultural workbook for youth and a new album this winter called "Furious Styles."

Product Description
Jahi, the lyrically conscious emcee of hope and determination, will be releasing his first full length album entitled "Higher Elevation" in March 2000 on Wreckanize Records/Two Sons Entertainment label. Jahi will be on a promotional tour for his album, and begin booking for his "Hiphop Life" tour.
The first single, "You Don't Know," is a battle track which displays Jahi's ability to mix it up and lyrically assault his competition. "Blaze it Up" is the new millennium anthem for true hiphop headz featuring Farid from The Chief Squad. The west coast produced track "E-F-F-E-C-T" is radio friendly for all listeners, and gets plenty of request in the clubs in the Midwest.
"Want You" is a deep love ballad that explores the beauty of sensuality. It's wonderfully written without negative connotations against the opposite sex. "Ready 4 War" is one of the hardest songs on the album lyrically packing tracks that make you bounce to the rhythm and strong words of revolution. On "Be the 1," Jahi challenges hiphop artists to go against the norm of commercial radio and stay true to its roots.
"I AM Poetry" offers a hypnotizing rhythm and smooth jazz like lyrics, once again showing off his versatility as a hiphop artist. Turning up his rhyming skills on "If You See Me," Jahi becomes the every-man-as-superman as he gives you his high energy style. "Power Moves 2000," a follow up to the 1999 hit single "Power Moves", hits hard with signature conscious lyrics.
"Move On" is an inspirational song with heavy bass grooves provided by 3ft. Jahi expands his hiphop consciousness on "Roam the Land" as he travels to the world of spoken word. This track features Elle from Soulsistah Entertainment and four time "Showtime at the Apollo" winner Da Boogie Man. On "Give Me a Sign," Jahi has an intimate conversation with God. "Higher Elevation," the title cut of the album, is a melodic story of struggle and life experiences.
Overall, the album is a collection of conscious hiphop. Speaking on his first full length album, Jahi says, " This project represents what you can accomplish with hard work, passion, and determination. Although I wouldn't say this is my best work because I am still evolving, I will say that this album has something that most people can vibe to."
