1 out of 5 stars "callin' out names" does not come on this cd.......2007-04-13

I had this cd when it first came out and lost it, I re-ordered this cd specifically for the hidden track "Callin' out names" that disses DMX, Ja Rule, Foxy Brown etc. and it is not on there, this is just a warning to anyone who might buy it for the same reason I did.

4 out of 5 stars Four and a half stars.......2006-10-01

This is my favorite kurupt album (besides Dogg Pound). Kurupt is a very smooth mc and his lyrical delivery flows like water. From songs "ride with us" to "trylogy" its gangsta and great club bangas. i recommend this cd to any kurupt fan

5 out of 5 stars Kurupt's shining hour, one of the west coast's premier albums.......2006-07-12

Dogg Pound rapper Kurupt released his second solo album, "Tha Streetz Iz a Mutha," in 1999, and ever since it has been an underrated album. This album is musically and lyrically one of the best west coast albums of the last ten years. This album is really impressive because on it, Kurupt started to push the boundaries of his music to a new level. He was one of the pioneers of the west coast g-funk craze that swept the nation starting with his appearances on Dr. Dre's "The Chronic" and Tha Dogg Pound's debut "Dogg Food." But this album is very different musically from his usual g-funk. It sounds almost experimental in some parts, often upbeat and heavy on instrumentals and great beats. The production team is awesome, consisting of legends like his partner-in-crime Daz Dillinger, Warren G, Dr. Dre, Soopafly, and Organized Noize. Lyrically this is some of Kurupt's best work, he covers a lot more topics than usual and uses a lot of clever wordplay. His flow as always is top-notch and he's a really fun rapper to listen to. The guest list on this album is astounding, an all star team of rappers including Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Dr. Dre, Nate Dogg, Jayo Felony, T-Mo Goodie, Nivea, KRS-One, his brother Roscoe, and Tray Deee just to name a few. This album is a west coast essential.

The album starts with my favorite song on the disc, "I Call Shots." The beat to this song is awesome, really hard hitting and fast and Kurupt and his brother Roscoe make a classic start to the album. "Loose Cannons" is a short second track, giving new life to an old NWA beat. "Who Ride Wit Us" is an awesome posse cut, featuring various west coast rappers over a perfect, head-nodding beat with a crazy chorus. "Represent Dat G.C." features simple production and another long list of California MCs, with an electronic-sounding robotic chorus. I love "Welcome Home," a happy sounding ode to Los Angeles featuring La Toya Williams on the chorus. "Tequilla" is a dark and grimy Organized Noize production, featuring an unlikely appearance by T-Mo Goodie and Nivea, it's a really cool song. "Trylogy" is a highlight, the music is a great sample from a Brahm's symphony, Kurupt does the beat justice. "Neva Gonna Give It Up" is a hardcore, post g-funk song representing the Dogg Pound Gangsta Clique, Nate Dogg sings a classic chorus. The title track is a well-produced, depressed look at ghetto life from a veteran who knows. "Ya Can't Trust Nobody" is bass-heavy and funky. Kurupt steals the show over a great beat on "It Ain't About You," and Nate Dogg drops by for another great appearance on the club track "Girls All Pause." "Your Gyrl Friend" is the last Nate Dogg collabo, this one a humorous and tough one with a good beat. "Ho's a Housewife," also released on Dr. Dre's "2001" album, is a Dre production and collaboration with an awesome beat and chorus, a classic. Soopafly and Daz produced "I Ain't S... Without My Homeboyz" which has steel drums and synths in the beat and shouts out Kurupt's friends in Long Beach, it's a really catchy song. The last three songs are lyrically the best, "Step Up" challenges other rappers to battle Kurupt and Xzibit, and "Live on the Mic" is a six-minute freestyle with Bronx legend and hip hop pioneer KRS-One. The album ends with a bonus track where Kurupt disses lots of east coast rappers, it was pretty controversial.

Overall this album is an underappreciated classic and one of the west coast's latter day masterpieces. Musically and lyrically, this album is amazing and deserving of any hip hop collection. Fans of Dr. Dre, Warren G, and tha Dogg Pound will certainly love this album, although it is very unique in its own light.

5 out of 5 stars Kurupts Best.......2006-06-11

This is my favorite Kurupt album. I love Kuruption but I like this one a little more. Kurupt has that flow, those rhymes and the beat to make you blast this hot joint in your car. I don't care for his new album against the grain, so I do hope Kurupt puts out another CD like this. Some bomb tracks on here are Girls All Pause featuring Nate Dogg, Who Ride Wit Us featuring Daz, Tha Streetz IZ A Mutha featuring Daz, and Ho's A HouseWife featuring Dr.Dre and Hitman. And you know when you have Dre on a tack you know it's gonna be tight. Kurupt is one of the most underrated rapper's of the westcoast and pretty much the whole rap game. Kurupt does deserve to be noticed more. He's original and he always keeps it like that. Please Kurupt leave Death Row and and get some of this gangsta s#!t back on the map. Well see wit the new Dogg Pound album Cali iz Active. The new track is pretty tight so keep your eyes open for the new album.

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST CD IN RAP HISTORY WITHOUT A DOUBT !!!!.......2005-09-07

This CD is so good I swear to GOD everyone should have it in thier GANGSTA RAP collection. If you dont bump this $hit everytime you go out Kurupt should write a diss song about you. CALLING OUT NAMES is the #1 track to get your homies G'd up to roll with. That isnt even the best track on the cd.

A+++ tracks: THE STREETZ IZ A MUTHA, CALLING OUT NAMES, I CALL SHOTS, REPRESENT THAT DPG, CANT TRUST NOBODY, HOs A HOUSEWIFE, IT AINT ABOUT YOU, YOUR GYRLFRIEND, THE REST ARE ALL GREAT.

THE DEATH ROW BEATS MAKE IT A DEFINITE GANGSTA CLASSIC.
Its too bad Kurupt & Daz had to fall out. Daz is on this cd a lot and is 1 of the reasons its the tightest. MAKE UP YALL! and keep it GANGSTA. I recommend buying the KURUPT dvd G-TV.

4 out of 5 stars No Luv But Still Good Musik.......2004-12-30

Personally I dont respekt or like this kat but homeboy got flow. This drop is alot tighter than Kuruption. Alot of good ole West Koast gangsta here. A definite must have for West Koast Phunk fans. When this album dropped there was alot of prime comin from the west so it got overlooked outside of the west, but due to the state of affairs that the rap industry is in now, youd be hard pressed to find a better album rite now. Dont get me wrong its not tremendous but if you havent heard it kop it, simple as that.
