Good compilation for a good cause.......2000-06-01

The money from this project helps support the T.J. MartellFoundation and ... is a decent 2CD collection whose strongest point is it's cross section of music: Rock, pop and rap. Among the 29 tracks are few rediscoveries that you should check out: Kenny Wayne Shepherd's "Blue On Black" is his best cut that wouldn't have sounded out-of-place on a Lynyrd Skynyrd album from the 70's. Big Pun's "I'm Not A Player" is great hip-hop from a talent gone-too-soon. And the Spice Girls' "Stop" is the best Motown girl group record since the 70's. And "Save Tonight" rescue's a great single from a mediocre album. One minor quibble: The version of "Maria" by Blondie is a remix and not the version you hear on the radio. But for 29 tracks [reasonably-priced], and for a good cause. this is a sound compilation investment.

This is one of the 10 best CDs I've ever purchased. Every song is worth the listen. Rarely do you find a CD where you don't have to skip a song here or there. I highly advise you not to miss out on this gem.

Rock that relates to Life.......2002-04-20

This CD is at home in my CD player. I can listen to it all the way through without skipping a single song...this is how you know it's a good album. Robb Roy brings the characteristics of everyday life into the rockin spotlight with their dreamy, bluesish, and hard rock mix of music. These are real people singing about real things. Plus they are just as good on stage as on CD-maybe even better because you get to actually see them. They put on a good show. Reminds me of the Doors.

With the release of their third full-length album, Robb Roy poses a simple question: Are you "Happy"? Regardless of the answer and as hard as you might try not to sing along, "Happy" offers 13 tracks of pure rock bliss. Songs like "What If" and "No Fear" question the travails of daily life, spreading a dose of something real, something listeners can understand. Getting downright sentimental Strachan croons "Came into my own when I was just a boy/I didn't know it then but I was closer than ever/ To what I'd learn was bliss and a chance at forever" ("No Fear"). Drawing on that emotional longing, Robb Roy even dares to cover Yaz's "Only You", putting every heart-felt power chord into focus. Undoubtedly, the true radio gem here begins with the aching vocals and wafting riffs on the record's title track. "All I wanna be is happy," Robb Roy declares. It's a big statement, but of all the modern rock on record shelves today, here's one that might actually make you smile.

Ear Candy.......2000-10-19

With the third release from Detroit modern rock giants Robb Roy, the quartet puts together 13 songs of solid hook-laden pop that is sure to solidify their place as masters of the local scene. The appropriately titled "Happy" is wrapped in slick packaging and incredibly professional playing. Graham Strachan's lyrics would be right at home in a radio slot between Creed and Matchbox Twenty. The band must be applauded on their production sense, which focuses on the solid beats of drummer Duane Huff and huge guitar lines. Besides that, it takes an awful lot of balls to cover Yaz's "Only You". And though the state of alternative radio rock is weak, there is little doubt that "Happy" will garner the band national attention.

Reason to Buy: I heart modern rock.
