brilliant album some of the somgs I havent heard for ages excellent if youa dragon buy it

5 out of 5 stars NZ's Mott The Hoople.......2005-06-28

Another band that should have been huge but self destructed. Oh, if only..... it breaks my heart to think of the great tunes we must have missed out on without Paul Hewsons immaculate pop songwriting skills. With Marcs unique sultry, sneering voice and his brothers perfectly pitched harmonies (I never heard him get one note wrong live) they were poised to take on the world.
With the Oh Zambesi lineup they should have been unstoppable. But in true rock tradition, with too many drugs and too many huge egos they couldn't ride the rocket whose fuse they'd lit. The album 'Sunshine' is my favourite and has a funkier boogie sound that reflected some of the Steely Dan influence of the day.
Damn, I miss them.

5 out of 5 stars Classic New Zealand pop.......2005-02-20

Dragon were at one time "Australia's most popular band", a blatant misnomer, but one that shows just how big they were down under - and yes, they were more popular in Australia than at home in NZ. Other than a chart-scraping "Rain" they failed to crack the US market, unlike Crowded House, or any of the 'real' Aussie bands - LRB, AC/DC, Air Supply, etc. But virtually every cut featured here made the Aussie top 40, and it is some of the most accessible pop you never heard.

If you've somehow stumbled upon this listing accidentally, consider it a case of providence and order this CD NOW. The informative liner notes will fill you in on everything your ears don't!

5 out of 5 stars Marc Hunter the voice.......2004-06-25

If you havent had the pleasure of hearing Dragon then you need too. Dragon was one of those great bands that never really got their true awards, the song 'Get That Jive' is a well done tune and my favorite 'Sunshine' is truely a song that will have you a fan. They did many albums and at this time they have reissued on cd the album "Sunshine" so try and pick that up, its worth it. This though is a nice gathering of tunes they have here so you can't go wrong, I had the pleasure of seeing Dragon in 1978 opening for Johnny Winter and they were just as tight as on record, a few years ago we lost the great Marc Hunter to throat cancer. Such a loss to the music industry, but he left us so many great songs to live with. he also has some solo records that are sometimes hard to find but believe me "Well worth it"

5 out of 5 stars The Very Best of New Zealand pop and rock on one disc.......2000-04-20

Dragon, arguably New Zealand's finest rock group, are also probably the least well known of most of the rock groups from the 1970s and early 1980s. For anybody who loves pure pop, whether that be more upbeat numbers or slower, wistful ballads, Dragon is the group you should look to. From the brilliant Are You Old Enough? to rock-oriented Young Years, from the bouncy Get That Jive to the lovely ballad Still In Love With You, this disc contains it all. It is sure not to disappoint any fan who already knows and loves Dragon, while at the same time introducing new listeners to their distinctive sound, especially Mark Hunter's emotive vocals. No true lover of rock music should go without this superb collection. Absolutely brilliant.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Must Have .......2005-12-29

Cabin in the Sky is an excellent, excellent black film. Very entertaining and a movie that projects the power of a conscience. I first saw Cabin in Sky on the AMC channel with my dad when I was 15 years old. I am now 32 years old and every time I watch the movie it is as if I am watching it for the first time. This is a great movie and I can't wait for the DVD version.

5 out of 5 stars Perfectly remastered classic.......2001-09-18

I have to give this CD 5 stars since it provides americans the only chance to listen to the fine voice of Kenneth Spencer. It's worth buing the CD just for the one track he's singing.

5 out of 5 stars Louis, Lena, Ethel, and Eddie in a classic.......2000-12-13

CABIN IN THE SKY is one of my favorite films, and the soundtrack does full justice to the score and the performers. 5 extended versions and 4 outtakes are welcome additions to this entertaining CD. The combination of jazz and inspirational tunes surpisingly come together very harmoniously in this mixture of fantasy and reality. The sound quality is fine, though a stereo remix was not possible. From the opening "Lil' Black Sheep" to "Taking a Chance on Love" the score is full of gems and anyone who loves musicals will be inspired by this soundtrack.

4 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE SOUNDTRACK.......1999-07-31

Duke Ellington, Ethel Waters & Lena Horne, what else could a musical ask for. Three giants of jazz & blues, who show us a small portion of their great indvidual talents on this soundtrack.

Duke Ellington's , Going Up, Lena's version of Ain't it the Truth, and the wonderful swinging vocals of Ethel Waters. One of the african-american divas that was there when blues and jazz started, and one of the earliest to be recorded. Makes you wonder why more musicals were not made with these great artists.Reccommend also all of Miss Waters recordings reissued on the Classics Label from 1921-1940. This cd is a must for anyone interested in jazz or blues.

1 out of 5 stars Da West Iz Da Best, Babee!!!.......2003-11-24

Man, that reviewer from Toledo is off da hook. He so far off da hook he put in da cooler and now in da fryin pan gettin sauteed wif garlic butta and fresh dill weed. How he gonna say dis CD aint tight cuz it got some kinda frou-frou polydimorphic thing goin on, huh? He fulla sh*t for true. What kinda game he be playin? Everbody know dat Killa Tay's real name's Fiachra Tashiaglou and dat he aint come from no East Coast. He a true Oakland homey thru n thru. And it aint true he never play in da London Philharmonic. Matter of fack, he principal oboist wif 'em for 6 whole muthaf*ckin years learnin dat craft, and now he applyin it for all us benefit, muthaf*cka! Dat why his beats be tight and his rap cool n hard. Man, someone otta slap Toledo upside da head wif a brick n stomp his punk *ss into da ground for speadin dose lies bout my man Fiachra!

4 out of 5 stars Fresno's Finest.......2001-05-09

Snake Eyes is a great rap cd. Killa Tay has a style that is unlike anthing you've ever heard. In this day of mcs that either sound the same, or do the same thing that others have already done, it is always nice to hear someone come with some originality. Tays got a crazy rhyme style that sounds perfect over the hard West Coast beats and smooth tracks. It is a whole new sound in rap. There is a very distinct sound created by the background vocals that are laced in and out of Tay's rhymes. As soon as you hear it, you'll know what I mean. The production is pretty solid. Of course its all Cz up on this album. The guest appearances are sicc- C-BO, Mac Mall, Brotha Lynch, FedEx from Mob Figaz, EDI from Outlawz, Set Shakur- Pac's younger sister, and a few more underground mcs. All in all it is straight West Coast funk for your trunk. Bump it in a system- it sounds tight. Pick it up or check out Killa Tay on one of the many West Coast compilations out there-

5 out of 5 stars Tight.......2001-02-07

This is the 1st Killa Tay CD i bought and he from the no-town right along wit me..... the (...) got talent.... song #13 didnt even need a beat.... he coulda just flowed and won a grammy for some rhymes like that... if u listen to the lyrics instead of the beats.... Killa Tay is a must...

3 out of 5 stars killa tay needs to stop yelling.......2001-01-04

This cd would be four stars If killa tay didn't yell. Every word he says he yells. I like most of his lyrics but I dont like how he raps it.As far as beats go it's a mixture of hardcore and the bay area sound. Best track in my opinion is so serious.

5 out of 5 stars This cd was aiight but it could've used sum work.......2000-11-10

Man this cd was aiight but it needed work.I don't know if he took his time on it or just wrote songs and threw a beat in with it.STill tha tracks I liked were tight. He at least took time on sum.Although this cd wasn't tha bomb i gave it a 5 for tha 5 songs I liked.Better luck nxt time TAY!

    Product Description

Blending musical elements of both old school metal and new style metal, the Snake Eyes Seven sound can best be described as vintage Black Sabbath blended with Rammstein yielding powerful rhythms, shrilling guitars and eerie vocals. Bassist/vocalist Victor Langen (Kick Axe), lead Vocalist/guitarist Daniel Nargang (Into Eternity), guitarist/madman Cole The Madman Stevens, and drummer/percussionist Johnny Bland (Love Hunter) banded together in May of 2005 to begin writing and rehearsing new material that would define the Snake Eyes Seven sound. Wanting something fresh and uncompromising, yet dark and powerful, the band put their collective talents together to deliver an unheralded style of music.

Depending on your viewpoint, director Brian De Palma has been frequently lauded/taken to task for liberally appropriating the stylistic flourishes of other directors. And if De Palma's biggest "inspiration" on Snake Eyes is Alfred Hitchcock, the director found an admirable, if unlikely, semblance of frequent Hitchcock collaborator Bernard Herrmann in Ryuichi Sakamoto. Though better known for more delicate, electronic, and ethnically tinged work, here Sakamoto does a truly amazing Benny impression, cranking up the brass and swirling the strings into an unsettling sonic maelstrom that would've done late '50s Hitch proud. Meredith Brooks and LaKiesha Berry also contribute a pair of songs in the contemporary pop vein that the kids seem to like so much. --Jerry McCulley

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars Cool Stuff.......2003-07-12

I'd never heard of Ryuichi Sakamoto before seeing this movie and since then I've never seen anything else scored by him which is a real shame because he's very good.

Snake Eyes instantly begins with an awesome theme played out on lush violins. It echoes Bernard Herrmann classic scores to Hitchcock movies. And seeing as how with this movie Brian DePalma was paying tribute to Hitchcock it's only fitting that Sakamoto would be such a sport. Usually when a score imitates another movie it doesn't stand on its own. But Snakes Eyes sounds soooo cool. Track 10 'The Storm' is worth buying the CD on its own.

Ignore the meaningless songs tacked on at the end. Sakamoto's score ends with the beautiful 'Snake Eyes-Long Version'. It's a shame that this came out in the modern day. If this score accompanied a classic movie it would have been well-remembered. Find a copy and buy!

4 out of 5 stars Divine Sakamoto; dreary pop.......2000-02-12

Save the annoying, obligatory pop songs (included to snag a wider audience, no doubt), this is an alternately fun and lush score to the underrated and visually stunning film. Sakamoto's haunting theme (best on extended track 11) is a loving tribute to Morricone and Herrmann and the cheesy '70s gangster film thrill/scare cuts are a hoot. Another great score by today's most diverse film composer.

5 out of 5 stars Sakamoto does it again.......1998-11-24

With orchestrations evidently heavily influenced by Stravinsky, this album is definitely overlooked because of the box-office flop of the movie. Be sure to pick this album up at the record stores.

5 out of 5 stars Meredith Brooks track makes this a MUST HAVE!!!!!!!.......1998-10-08

If you like pulsating instrumentals, then this is definitely a must-have album, but it is a must-have in my opinion simply because of the song "Sin City" by Meredith Brooks. If you like Meredith Brooks, then you must add this CD to your collection. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

    4 out of 5 stars Well..........1998-09-02

The first couple of tracks (ok the first 10 actually) are very similar, so if you don't like one, you proabably won't like the rest. However, Meredith Brooks' "Sin City" is an incredible track and worth the price of the whole CD.

an excellent, excellent album. he'll be sorely missed in the music world. you'd be hard pressed to find better acoustic blues anywhere, anytime. the last track, "if it's really got to be this way" stands out to me as one of the best songs i have ever heard, a simple tune of a man asking why his girl's got to leave, but still very moving. i highly recommend to any fan of the blues.

3 out of 5 stars Item not received........2006-01-15

I have not received this item yet. It is on back order. I had to rate it so put 3 stars. However sicne it hasn't been received I can't really rate it. You ought to take situations like this into consideration if you're going to do this sort of thing.

        3 out of 5 stars A Nice Assortment.......2001-03-13

The CD contains a nice selection of songs from composers who we may not hear that much of. I bought this CD for Copland's Dirge in Woods and it was very nice. But I found some other nice treasures on this CD too. Four vocalists, two males and two females, take on this sometimes very challenging music. The music for the most part is not soft and languid both rather has some what we would think of as mid 20th century types of chords. Unless you're into that kinda of thing, you may not want to get this CD. These aren't master works, but just nice little songs a composer might of written while taking a break between writing operas or symphonies.

5 out of 5 stars Important American art songs performed by superb recitalists.......2000-05-30

This CD, a digital remastering of a recording originally released in 1962, is an extraordinary value for anyone interested in American art song, or simply in fine singing. I bought it because I wanted to hear Eleanor Steber's performance of Griffes's "Waikiki", which did not disappoint. But there are many other wonderful songs, all presented with great artistry. They range from the demanding complexity of Barber's "Nuvoletta" and Ives's "General William Booth Enters into Heaven" to the lyricism of the Ernst Bacon songs to texts by Emily Dickinson. The final song on the CD, John McCollum's performance of Henry Cowell's "The Donkey", is especially memorable; I recommend this version over the one on the Albany label's "Songs of Henry Cowell" CD (which I bought because my interest in Cowell's songs was raised by hearing "The Donkey").
