"It's 1999, my nigga," Snoop Dogg asserts on this posse album, which inaugurates his new Dogg House label. The problem isn't so much that its release comes in early 2000, but that the CD sounds like it was cryogenically frozen in late '93 and recently thawed. From its P-Funk samples to the overall Doggystyle vibe, Tha Eastsidaz owes nearly everything to the classic Death Row days; lyrically, Snoop and crew are likewise stuck in crime-'n'-bitches mode, but with little of the phrase-making skills of his best work. Serviceable at best, this disc sounds even lamer coming after the attitudinal advances of Dr. Dre 2001. Now there's a record maker who knows what time it is. --Rickey Wright

5 out of 5 stars Long Beach In The House Once Again.......2006-03-22

Long Beach has been for a long time a breeding ground for smokin hip-hop artists and groups. Snoop Dogg gets Goldie Loc and Tray Dee and creates a rap supergroup. Tha Eastsidaz come together for a fully heated debut album. The album features those clean cut G-Funk beats that could only have come out of Long Beach, Cali. In fact, even though the album came out in early 2000, it has the magic and funk of a mid 90's G-Funk era album. DPG and Eastsidaz put the west back on the map with a phat album. Phat tracks like "G'd up" & "Got Beef" got mad radio play out in the west. Other standouts are the smooth "LBC Thang" where the homies rep their city. Then, there is "Be Thankful" where the trio, along with Warren G, Pretty Tony, and kam, give love to the ones that put them up on the game of life, over a nice, relaxing slower beat. it is a long album, 22 tracks (a few skits), and it is well worth the used space. The album is a G-Funk classic. West coast rap fans need to have this, and any rap fan could appreciate this hot release.

4 out of 5 stars Good debut album from the Eastsidaz.......2005-09-06

Snoop gets 2 fellow Long Beach natives to release their debut group album. A good album and some of the better work Snoop did from 1997 - 2000. Snoop and Tray Dee each have a solo, Snoop is on 16 of the 18 songs, Tray Dee is on 13 and Goldie Loc is on 12. Guests are on a lot of the songs but the album is still solid. Production is good as well, from some of the better known producers on the west coast. Battlecat does 6, Meech Wells does 4, Goldie Loc & LT Hutton each do 2, and Warren G, Soopafly, Blaqthoven, and Jelly Roll all do 1. It has 1 almost classic, 8 to 10 good songs and the others are ok. A good album to have for their fans and those who like that Long Beach type rap.

5 out of 5 stars Good for a rap album!.......2005-05-26

I'm not big into rap so everybody has thier own tastes i guess. I like this one very much. I think it is one of the best out there. This album offers rap the way it should be done instead of this mindless repetion you hear on other rap albums such as 50cent or what ever he calls himself. Trey Dee and Goldie Locke add what is needed to makes this a real classic in gangsta rap. The beats are awesome and the flow is great with the fillers that seem to fit. All you other so-called homies out there that gave this a bad review wouldnt know good music if it bit you on the head. But that is my opinion and that is all.

4 out of 5 stars SNOOP'S BEST CD SINCE ''THA DOGGFATHER''.......2004-06-03

THIS WAS SNOOP'S BEST CD IN YEARS. ''TOP DOGG'' WAS ACTUALLY GOOD, BUT IT'S NOT AS GOOD AS THIS! ON THIS ALBUM, SNOOP RAPS WITH HIS TWO HOMEBOYZ, GOLDIE LOC AND TRAY DEE. AND ON THIS ALBUM, THE OLD SNOOP DOGG SEEMS TO HAVE MADE A STRONG COMEBACK! BEST TRACKS ARE ''BIG BANG THEORY'', ''DOGGHOUSE'', ''TAKE IT BACK TO 85'', ''GIVE IT 2 EM DOGG'', AND ''GHETTO''. THIS IS THE MOST G'D UP ALBUM THAT SNOOP HAS DONE SINCE HE LEFT DEATH ROW FOR NO LIMIT! THIS CD IS DEFINITELY NOT TO BE SLEPT-ON!

4 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars for their 2nd group album.......2005-09-06

Snoop is back with Tray Dee & Goldie Loc for their 2nd album in 17 months, this is better then their first album (which is a 4 star rleease). Guests aren't on as many of the songs rapping as their first one. Of the 18 songs, Tray Deee is on all of them, Goldie Loc is on 17, and Snoop is on 12. It has 1 classic, 11 good songs and the others are ok. Production is great from some big name producers. Battlecat does 5 songs, Meech Wells does 3, Jelly Roll, Hi Tek & ALChemist all do 2 songs,a nd Rick Rock & Swizz Beats each do 1. A great west coast album that all should have in their collection.

4 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars.......2005-07-31

This is westcoast history right here.

Tha Eastsidaz (Tray Deee & Goldie Loc) and Snoopa raps over great beats. Even though Fred Wreck's tracks arent mastered as well as they should have been (or so it sounds) this is still the shiaaat.

Who is on the record? Fred Wreck, Kokane, Soopafly, Suga Free, Butch Cassidy, Battlecat, Nate Dogg, DJ Pooh, Mixmaster Spade, Kurupt, RBX & Bad Azz...nuff said BUY THIS!

5 out of 5 stars This CD is soooo BOMB.......2003-08-19

Like I said, THIS CD IS BOMB!, Tha Eastsidaz really made it happen this time,If ya thinkin bout buyin any of Snoop Doggs albums, this is the one to get. Best song: I Luv It. Like the song says I LOVE IT (I love this CD). WEST SIDE REPRESENT!

3 out of 5 stars Another average Snoop Dogg affiliated album.......2002-12-16

Snoop seemed to be doing well. He just released his best solo effort since Doggystyle, and the first Eastsidaz album went platinum, but then he had to release this. It isn't terrible, but it is no where as good as say, Tha Last Meal, or even Top Dogg. Snoop just fares better alone and his albums prove it. Anyways, about this album. It isn't terrible, but it definetly isn't worth purchasing for the 3 great tracks ("I Luv It", "Eastside Ridaz" and "There Comes A Time"), which you can just download. The production on this album is shaky at best, which results in an average album since Tray Dee and Goldie Loc don't bring anything special on the mic. I'm glad the Eastsidaz aren't on Snoop's label anymore, and that he has once again put out another quality solo album.

4 out of 5 stars Snoop is NOT a CRIP anymore.......2002-04-22

snoop and tha eastsidaz give a bad name to CRIPPIN', thats all im gunna say about that. however if you discuss there music its no that bad. most of there songs work pretty well, if you consider tha weak beats they were provided with. about the crippin, maybe snoop and tha gang (tray and goldie) used to be CRIPs, but not anymore. snoop used to kick it with suge knight a well known blood. in fact he used to rap for his record label. and as far as i'm concerned i've been to east L.B 19th 21st and 18th, and while there not "suburban paradise" (there far from it in fact) they are still no breeding ground for slobs and CRIPs.

3 out of 5 stars 3.5 star album from the "Eastsidaz".......2006-11-21

Their 3rd group album, if you want to call it that, comes 4 years after thier 2nd and best album. Most of these seem like they are from 2000 - 2001 time frame and just were never used. With 17 songs, you get some more of the Eastsidaz, Goldie Loc is on all 17 songs, Tray Deee is on 15 and Snoop is only on 7. Other guests drop in on about half teh songs as well. Of the 17 songs, 1 is almost a classic, 1 I skip, 7 are ok and the other 8 are good, nothing great though. Production credits aren't given but I know Battlecat does a few songs and Jelly Roll does at least 1. For their fans I'd cop this but they have much better work. As usual Tray Deee far outshines Goldie Loc with his nice raspy gangsta voice and tight flow, Goldie is average at best once again.

4 out of 5 stars Hot!...But..........2005-11-13

This is a weird CD. Not musically weird, because it may be one of the best recordings to come out of the west coast hip-hop scene in the last year or two (along with The Game's "The Documentary & Warren G's "In The Midnight Hour"). But weird in the fact that it seemingly came out of nowhere & the CD itself gives no clue as to it's origin. There are no liner notes, production credits or any information as to when or where it was recorded. The sound quality is excellent which is what matters most, but otherwise, this is very cheaply put together, for some reason. Even the cover photo of the group is out of focus. By all accounts, this is all new, or at least relatively new Eastsidaz material. Most of the usual suspects pop up for some good collabos. Nate Dogg, MC Ren(!), Kokane, Suga Free & even Redman guest on various tracks. Even familiar themes & skits, like the "WBallz" radio spots are included. However, the CD suffers to a degree, because there is about a 8 second silence between tracks which makes the flow of the album non-existent. Also, the sequencing is a little off as well. Max "The Mack" Julien has a great skit in the middle of the disc, but it would have been even better if it had been the CD's intro. There's also two bonus tracks, that go uncredited entirely. Some featured artist on certain tracks are uncredited also. Never mind all the minuses, though. True DPGC fans will be feeling this. With the exception of "Vegetarian" which is kind of a wack track that champions eating pork(?), it's tight all the way through. If it could find major label distrubution, and fix it's minor issues, this could be considered near classic material.

5 out of 5 stars G'ed Up.......2003-06-06

What a great song, I remember buying this single without even hearing it, I listened to it on the way home, and loved it. This song introduced me to Goldie Loc, and made me feel like Battlecat was one of the best producers ever. I also felt Butch Cassity did a very good job on here, and Snoop of course to. Tray Dee who I have known of ever since the Murder was the Case soundtrack also did a excellent job. Over all this is what marked a great come back for the big WEST.

5 out of 5 stars To the true fans, y'all gotta buy this album!.......2000-02-03

I'm deeply honoured to have the pleasure of writing the first or one of the first reviews for this album. I'll try my very best to give a fair and helpful review for prospective buyers.

Everybody has something to say about Snoop Dogg. He has had a reputation for going hot and cold, just like the weather up here in Toronto. I'll tell ya, it's cold up here right now, with snow, ice and sub-zero temperature, but I can't say the same for Snoop these days.... he's BLAZIN! We all know that Doggystyle was a tough act to follow, but maybe weren't prepared for The Doggfather to flop the way it did. When Snoop signed with No Limit, maybe it was a smart financial decision, but for his music, it seemed like bad news--which was clearly manifested in Da Game Is To Be Sold Not Told. D-O-double-G has clearly done his homework since then. Topp Dogg showed promises of return to his former style, but his appearances on Chronic 2001, his collaboration with the right crew--DPG, Dre, Xzibit, Warren G and now Tha Eastsidaz--has convincingly capitulated Snoop back among the top of the game, just as his talent rightfully demands. Moreover, it has brought him back to the roots.

Specifically, this album brings it all together. Its artists have strong chemistry together and its production is top notch. Tha Eastsidaz is a triumphant representation of smooth Hip Hop from the left coast. I've given the entire CD three spins now, and although the tracks continue to grow on me, I've got a good feel for my early favourites: Now We Lay 'Em Down (track 2) has a bumpin' reminiscent beat, just like the old days of the original Chronic album; Dogghouse (track 4) This track features Tha Locs and Rapp'n 4 Tay. Again, really strong beats and great chemistry. Tray Deee performs really well on this track; Got Beef (track 6) Easily one of my favourites, along with G'd Up. Production is tight, Snoop flows well with Jayo Felony and Sylk E. Fyne; G'd Up (track 10) I've had this song since its release as the album's first single and I am still lovin' it! Its production is solid, the chorus is catchy, and it's a great anthem for the West Coast, cuz it's all about chillin'; Big Bang Theory (track 14) Having Snoop Dogg, Xzibit and Kurupt together on the same track is enough reason for me to like it, but I haven't fully felt this one yet; Life Goes On (track 22) A nice ending to bring it all together, Snoop's flow is unique.

Overall, I really liked this album because its beats are catchy, the chemistry between Tha Eastsidaz is natural, and Snoop brings in a nice mixture of guest appearances with Xzibit, Butch Cassidy, Kurupt, Jayo Felony, Warren G and Rapp'n 4 Tay, among others. The highlight of the album is Tha Eastsidaz' collective performance as a group. Tray Deee makes a great case for himself, perhaps giving us a glimpse of future stardom and hopefully an upcoming solo album and Goldie Loc doesn't disappoint. In my opinion, this album is a significant step in the right direction for Snoop, showing his prowess and expertise in his debut release for Dogghouse Records.

Tha Eastsidaz continues to get heavy playtime in my CD player, perhaps not as good as Chronic 2001--it would have been great to hear one or two more songs with Snoop and Dre together, Hip Hop's ultimate tag-team--but significantly better than Topp Dogg. At the very least, if you're a big Snoop or West Coast fan, this album is a sure-fire hit! 4.6 stars, which I suppose rounds off to 5, right?
