5 out of 5 stars A good value.......2007-05-17

I wasn't expecting to have 4 discs for this price, and the music is a quality selection of film music, giving a good scope of the genre, and a very listenable transfer.

4 out of 5 stars The Sound Track Since Bernard Hermann.......2006-07-25

This collection is bound to capture your heart and evoke a tin ear on successive tracks. I found much to like and some duds - easy to skip over.
Very good value.

For the price, this CD is a great bargain. The musical selections, as you might expect, are mixed in quality ranging from extraordinary to so so, the balance being worthwhile and interesting. Sonically the CD is excellent.

Album Description

Possessing dazzling instrumental chops and an absolute mastery of acoustic musical styles, The Waybacks are an eclectic quintet, steeped in an array of Americana idioms. Whether mesmerizing audiences at intimate venues or creating a sensation at major festivals, the band has brought its onstage alchemy to enthusiastic fans far and wide. On From the Pasture to the Future, the band has captured that aesthetically pleasing mix while adding a bit of spit and polish courtesy of esteemed producer Lloyd Maines. Follow The Waybacks on their their collective muse through a landscape littered with driving, melody-laden rock ("Petrified Man"), an elegant fiddle waltz ("Bluebird Waltz"), a Kinks cover reinvented with New Orleans second line inflections ("Motorway") and a jazz-tinged rumba (Chick Corea's "Armando's Rhumba").

5 out of 5 stars Another great CD from the acoustic kings.......2006-05-30

This is the most entertaining and talented group of musicians on the planet. Seeing them live is a treat, but if they're not coming your way, snap on your seatbelt and give this a listen. Great stuff from real deal musicians.

5 out of 5 stars Something for Everybody.......2006-05-27

A great cd with something everybody can sink their teeth into, from rock to jazz to celtic. An eclectic mix of well played music, some sweet, some sizzling.

5 out of 5 stars Totally Awesome.......2006-05-26

I received my new CD with high expectations, as The Waybacks have been promising this new CD for many months. I listened to it many times over the first few days and continue to listen to it. The instrumentals were out of sight....my personal favorite is Hot Kranski, followed closely by Armand's Rhumba, and Blue bird waltz. Stevie has done another awesome job with his "Petrified Man" and "The Blacksmith". I really like his ballads. I would highly recommend listening to this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Another great CD.......2006-05-26

I knew the latest CD "From the Pasture to the Future" would be great! The songs are true to Wayback tradition. Saw most of them performed live; look forward to the next CD. These guys are going to be around for a long time.

4 out of 5 stars dara rocks.......2006-09-17

This is the first cd that inroduced me to dj dara. It kicks really hard and the bass drops like no other. It is great to listen to when you just want to sit back and go into a daze. I thought the vocal samples were pretty decent (check out the last song, suicide) and overall a pretty good cd to check out

3 out of 5 stars generic .......2006-05-07

This mix is only passable. Some of the tracks are pretty good, and the continuity is OK. There are just too many tracks with stupid repetitive vocal samples. Playing a canned vocal phrase over and over for four minutes is a few steps beyond grating and unimaginative. It gets old pretty quick.

5 out of 5 stars good rythmn.......2006-04-10

Good Mix, Great choice of songs really makes me feel like Im at a DNB concert the way its setup. Good hard mix with a lot of transitions, still grooves though, well done.....

5 out of 5 stars Typical Dj Dara.......2006-01-20

If by typical you mean flawless? Yep. Quality indeed. Get.

5 out of 5 stars Future Perfect = Kick ass DnB.......2004-02-10

Definitely one of Daras' best albums to date;you won't be dissapointed with this album if you like dieselboy or Ak1200.
Best tracks on are Dust,Altitude; And slip and slide suicide, which is definitely the best especially if you've heard the original version you'd see why.
Dnb at its finest!

Deep Concentration reinforces what you fundamentally love about hip-hop and then proceeds to flip your brain into hyperspace with some of the more progressive DJ compositions from some of the most respected turntablists around. West Coast DJ Cut Chemist (of Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli) reaches extra deep into the archives to build "Lesson 6," while DJs Swingsett and Wally find a hook in a loop of dripping water for the trippy "Centaurius Space Bass." Hip-hop purists will appreciate the X-Ecutioners' assault "A Turntable Experience" and the only MC cut, "Say What," by the lyrical marvels Latyrx. Some of the routines on Deep Concentration are sonically experimental while others, such as Prince Paul's ego trip, "DJ Prince Paul vs. the World," simply excel with excess. --Todd Levin

5 out of 5 stars A Classic............2004-06-14

Although a classic of which music genre is anyone's guess. Trip hop prehaps? There so much depth to this album it boggles the mind. I purchased this album over seven years ago when I was just starting to get into DJ Shadow. If you are a fan of Shadow you need this album. This is also what I would call a "bridge" album because the artists on it are tied to so many different music scenes....I guess that's mostly because of Cut Chemist. This is a definate "must" for anyone that enjoys turntable artistry.

5 out of 5 stars Absolute Masterpiece.......1999-06-11

You get a bit of every style in this package. The skillz amaze, but your butt still moves.

The content alternates where the A sides (2LP in my case), are butt shakin' turntablist rave-ups and the B's are more ambient, jazzy, smoove stuff.

5 out of 5 stars done extremely well - really spacy.......1999-08-05

i think this is one of the best D & B albums i've listened to in a long time. beats ARE right on, with the ambient sounds making this a really mellow, easy listening yet powerful cd.

5 out of 5 stars an album that pushes the boundaries of drum and bass........1999-06-23

1 out of 5 stars Canned electronica, poorly done trip-hop music........1999-02-22

This CD was an extreme disappointment. I kept listening to it hoping that a certain track would pull me in, but it never happened. Key words to describe this CD are arrythmical, confused, disjointed, and annoying. I don't know what went wrong with the recording, but the entire piece sounds like it was recorded in a tin can. The drum beats sound like they were produced on a forty-dollar drum machine and the timing is all off, almost as if the beats were added as an afterthought. Also, there are these purposeless volume shifts in most of the songs that becomes quite annoying over time. The last track is fairly easy to listen to, but isn't enough to make up for the rest of this coldly disappointing CD. No more future loops for me. If you want a frame of reference on this genre, try Banco de Gaia's Maya or ONE A.D.. Future Loop is on the same label as Banco, but lacks depth and breadth.

5 out of 5 stars Worth every penny I spent! GOOD CRACK!.......1998-11-06

Good Day, My sister AMOS and her fiance the Aquatic Ape turned me on to the alternative/techno music scene and I was a bit apprehensive, but this CD opens up a can of whiped topping right from the get go! Let me put it to you this way.. you know those CDs you buy for one hit and then you end up using them for skeet shooting practice and you curse the person for ever turning you onto the group.... Well my friends "Future Loop Foundation" is NOT one of those CDs. The music is powerful, creative, inspiring, and down right gorgeous! Do not be scared, open up your wallet, take a chance, you will run into me in the FUTURE in cyberspace and say, "Thank you Dave, that album/cd is one of my top ten of all times" GO SHEFFIELD! I cannot wait for the second album/cd!

    5 out of 5 stars Amazing album.......2006-02-21

The High Strung is simply the best band in america today.. bar none.. buy this album now.. AND see them live when they hit your town.. THEY ROCK!!!!

    5 out of 5 stars "once in a dream".......2006-02-21

My favorite thing about this album is the lyrics. Each song has at least one memorable line, such as, "blows my mind, you held a conversation on your own" from Truce. The story in Seems It's One Thing caught my ear the first time I heard it (live, before the album was released), especially the line "she was granted the McArthur Genius Fellowship". Some lyrics are included in the liner notes (as well as fun drawings). Overall, these songs feature many distinct characters and stories, as well as lessons to be learned, and good music all around.

    5 out of 5 stars More Cowbell.......2005-11-22

My brother saw an article about this band in Bass Player magazine and picked up Moxie Brovo based on it. He let me listen to a few songs which I promptly turned around and bought the CD for myself. We saw them live for the first time at Schuba's in Chicago November 21st and I have to say they know how to rock.

This CD has a great production value. All the songs are very catchy without being poppy. The singer has the kind of voice that makes you want to listen to him tell his story...then sing along when the chorus hits. These songs are well written, though a bit short, they still work. All these songs are straight ahead rock; no extra fluff or studio tricks here.

I highly recommend these guys...sing along with your friends!

More proof the power trio is the only way to go.

5 out of 5 stars Balls Out Rock!.......2005-09-29

      Album Description

The initial release of the Ross Hammond Trio. From the eastern European tinge of 'Will You Use the Soap She Makes?' to the almost (but not quite) conventional jazz sound of 'Blood,' Gauche represents the arrival of a truly distinctive voice in modern guitar jazz.

      Album Description

The compilation features an eclectic mix of musical styles, Deep House, Downbeat, Drum & Bass, Nu-Jazz etc., but it always seems difficult to categorize this sort of music. More important is the blending of different cultures (India, Hungary, UK, USA etc.) & musical backgrounds to be found on this compilation. Many of the tracks featured on this album, were underground-club hits in the past few months, DJs like Rainer Truby, Jazzanova, Alex Attias, Gilles Peterson, Peter Kruder & LTJ Bukem have included them on their play lists & magazines such as Straight no Chaser gave 'strong buy' recommendations for these now limited availability & in some cases no longer available 12 inches. Digipak. Compost. 2003.

3 out of 5 stars a soundtrack to your next starbucks visit...........2005-08-05

theres a bunch of keepers on this album. i go with dj shuriken, slavador group and amalgamation of soundz on this one. for the rest of the tunes are a bit normal. these are the kind of songs you will hear blaring at your local starbucks cafe. it's like background music, the only song that is an exception in the one from salvador group, which begs to not be in the background with its use of live instruments. i was unimpressed with most of the cd however, but it is perhaps a lovely accopaniment at home when you're washing those dishes to make you feel a bit lighter. like i mentioned it is background music and it ususally doesnt hold up to its own when listened to with thought. i do have a cool story to tell about this cd. i work at a photography studio and my boss tells me hey, bring in some music to play while we work, so i bring in vol. 5 of this very compilation and bam hes hooked. he burned a copy right there(i know that probably just pissed off the people at compost records lol!) and now this music is constantly running in the studio and always on. i;m sure that if you find yourself tired of contemporary christian music getting blared at your workplace, bring this in instead, its inoffensive, usually just uses like samples from obscure jazz records and it really can set an interesting party atmosphere. once again, it is just background music but give it a shot, it might acvtually suprise you. one thing is for sure, im not liistening to this in the car or like in my i pod, that would be freakin lame. just pop it in the home cd player and you're good to go. good lck

Future Sounds of Jazz No. 3 is okay. It's not too hot and not too cold. The saving grace of this album is that it is a 2 CD set. You get nearly two hours of music. There are 20 tracks in the album. Half of those are previously unreleased songs and half of them shouldn't have been released. The first five songs of the first CD are garbage. From track 6-11, it's all the way live. On the second CD, the same holds. Half the songs suck and the other half are live. All in all. If you take the good tracks off this set, you would really have one CD. I am rating this album 3 stars because of the inclusion of so many mediocre tracks. All the good tracks on this album would garner this set a 5 star rating.

Definitely fits into the future sounds collection smoothly. This double cd offers a look into the laid back style of jazz fused with a moderate techno kick. This was the first title I tried in the series so it holds a special place in my changer. I let it play continuously on repeat while I work at home and it always keeps me in good spirits. If you want a relaxing yet upbeat addition to your collection then the Future Sounds of Jazz is a must have. You really can't go wrong with any of the volumes, so grab one while you can. But, be warned they are addicting.
