I think his debut had the best lyrics. This joint gets off to a good start with We Still Party and pretty much bangs till the end. His production on here is best described as "Late 90's Roger Troutman-esque G-Funk".
Geust Stars like 2nd II NOne, AMG, Suga Free and El Debarge get their shine on.

Hello there people, i am back after the crimbo holidays to write another review of one of my best artist, Mr dj quik. if you are wondering, no i have not spelt the name wrong and neither has quik, if your not aware dj quik is a west coast rapper from compton. califonia. as most residents in compton and the near by neighbourhoods became a gang member at a young age, he is a member of the bloods gang.
As i am sure most of us know that the bloods and crips are not to fond of each other and due to this each gang tends to either cross out the B if your a crip gang member due to B been associated with the bloods example.. .. .. BIG would have the B crossed out and sometimes be replaced with a C or most of the time left out of the word all together, and the same for bloods but only the letter C. for example QUICK, bloods would cross out the C making the word spelt like QUIK.

Dj quik has been on the hip-hop scene since 1987 with his underground album "THE RED TAPE" and became a public success in the early 1990's with his first album "QUIK IS THE NAME" in 1991
Over the past few years quik has gone from a slick, cheeky, gangbanging gangsta from compton which alot of his lyrics in his first album mention gang related topics such as drive bys and shootings but quik didn't have a gritty, dirty, rough voice and alot of his song's where rather funky with early G-funk beat. his voice could been seen simalar to eazy e (R.I.P)

in his second album "WAY TO FUNKY" in 1992 quik seems to make this album more funky then hardcore but still mentions some of the same topics and also has a quick pop at MC EIHT in a song or 2. this album didn't do aswell as the first and in my oppinion it is due to it been less hardcore with less compton style.

he then brought out "SAFE AND SOUND" in 1995 which in my oppinion was by far his best album, still got the funky beat but goes all out and seems more hardcore and has more of the compton feel to it.
this is the album where quik realy lets rip on MC EIHT ( if your not aware dj quik had "beef" with mc eiht from comptons most wanted, even though both rappers where from compton they where in diffrent gangs, as quik was a blood and mc eiht was a crip it didn't take long for things to flair up. it all started when quik apparently dissed mc eiht and comptons most wanted in quiks underground mixtape "the red tape"
in this album "safe and sound" it does look like quik has won the battle due to his great lyrics ripping mc eiht apart, lyrics like from the song DOLLAZ N SENSE. " tell me why you act so scary, givin' your self a bad name with your mis-spelt name, E.I.H.T now should i continue, yeah you left out the G coz the G aint in you" also in the following song LET YOU HAVE IT he's lyrics say " take this s**t back to your set if you got 1, coz i'll be putting then double buck shells in my shot gun, and if you come back fu**ing around i'm gonna take your life, why would you come back to a gunfight with a f**king knife, so there it is MC EIHT coz your wack. "

then soon after dj quik brought out RHYTHM-AL-ISM in 1996.
the album didn't do half aswell as his first album or nearly as good as his safe and sound album. dj quik seems to take a much more layed back approch to his style of music and totaly loose's his hardcore style, he also does a shout out to mc eiht say that he would like to do a record together, but a year early was talking about wanting him dead.
this is a dissopointing album for me and although it was worth money i wouldn't say i would spend lots on it. if your a true classic hardcore but yet funky beat and style like dj quiks first album and safe and sound i feel you'll be shocked and dissopointed with this one. if your not a quik fan and have not heard many songs of his but yet like old classic hard core please try looking at safe and sound and quik is the name, these two albums will be money well spent.

if your a fan of snoop doggs new funky laid back style and are more into the new style hip hop seems to be taking.. .. then you may want to look it to this album. $10 is a good price for this cd, but remember if your a old dj quik fan, miss this one out unless its going cheap.

Excellent rlease from one of the greates producers/rappers from the West Coast. Every song james from the Rytham-al-ism intro to the end. My favourites are all of them. Listen to the album from begining to end and dont skip a song.

and thats the only good thing about the cd. dj quik sucks, but he got good hair.

One Of The Best Producers On The Mic {4.5 Stars}.......2006-12-29

Like most of the other reviewers, I think this is possibly Quik's best album (maybe Safe & Sound is...it's a toss up). But as far as production, this is easily Quik's best album without question. Being from the east coast, I can honestly say that Quik doesn't get a lot of play here. But since I'm a DJ I make sure that Quik gets some play when I spin at the club or at parties. People always walk up to me and ask "Who is that?" or "When did Quik put this out" or the one I hear most..."Is this new?". It's sad that music like this gets ignored over here. But on to the review:

Basically, this is the lighter side of DJ Quik. What makes this album stand out from his other work is that you can tell that he had fun making this album. On his previous stuff he had to keep it gangsta, but on this album, he completely shed his gangsta persona and decided to just make good music. Quik even denounces his gangsta ways and attempts to squash old beefs on the genius "You'z A Gangxta". Tracks like "We Still Party", "No Doubt" feat. Playa Hamm & Suga Free, and "So Many Wayz" feat. 2nd II None & Peter Gunz are all certified party starters. And while Quik might've gotten away from the gangsta rap on this album, he most definitely held on to his trademark explicit tales on tracks like "Thinkin' Bout U", "I Useta Know Her", and "Medley For A "V" (The Pu**y Medley)" feat. Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, AMG, 2nd II None, Hi C, and El Debarge.

There really aren't too many problem spots on this album, but there are a couple. While it's a very minor complaint, I know people like me tend to look forward to the many Quik's Groove songs on his various other works, but it's absent on this album. And the track "Down Down Down" isn't necessarily a bad song, but it IS the only skippable track on the entire LP. The rest of the album is tight.

This album can be enjoyed by Quik fans both old and new. The lighter side of Quik is the better side in my opinion. If you're just getting into Quik then you picked a great album start with. Quik has never put out a bad album, but this is one of his better efforts. Go get it if you haven't heard it by now.

What happened to the piru love? Well I guess some things gotta change. All in all its good could have left El Debarge out in the dark. This album is full of hot beats but it lacks the whole 8-Ball Compton theme, it cant get played out, its for real.Quik didnt sellout but he left the style out. I just hope he doesnt go all R&B. THE BEATS ARE HOT!!

Once again,mr.quik is commin' at you with nothing but the bomb stuff.By listing to some of the tracks,I can tell you that this will automaticaly go double platinum no doubt about it.when you get this hot joint,be sure to peep out this one song called 'Hand N Hand', and another one called 'IN THE LATE NIGHT'. this will indeed be another hit classic in years to come.
