Album Description

Soulspazm Records is proud to release the Pumpkin Head album, Orange Moon Over Brooklyn. The project features guest appearances from Immortal Technique, Jean Grae, D.V. Alias Khrist, Supastition, Wordsworth, and others. The album is entirely produced by upcoming Canadian producer Marco Polo and features cuts by turntablist DP One.

Brooklyn's proudest battle MC delivers his best work yet with this release. Pumpkin Head. Pumpkin got his big break by doing a promo for the "Stretch and Bobbito Show" (Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito the Barber). His first 12-inch records in 1998, ("Dynamic" and "Wack MC's") had great success on the radio charts. Since then, Pumpkinhead has worked with almost every underground MC in New York, recorded a Seagram's Gin radio commercial, and toured in Australia, Japan, the Netherlands and Sweden.

Orange Moon Over Brooklyn features the banging tracks "Rock On", "Trifactor" and "Swordfish". Without a doubt, Pumpkin Head is back representing BK to the fullest! Cop it now!

3 out of 5 stars More of the same.......2007-02-19

I know, I know, not every album can be BlackStar--but let's compare for a moment. Why do two albums about the same general subject matter (uplifting the black man, putting food on the table, falling in love, raising a family, dodging the land mines of crack, guns, and crooked cops in the ghetto) sound so different? Cadence, rhythm, timing, and most important, cleverness that verges on pure genius in the utilization of similes and metaphors. Although Pumpkinhead has great production, and thankfully is one less MC rhyming about [...]/drugs/bling/etc., his lyrics only hint at these things.

I put this album in the category of onebelo or Hangar 18 or Pete Miser: talented artists all, with a gem or two here and there, but lacking that certain something that makes you wear out the CD.

5 out of 5 stars Alkaline and Acid- the combination's sick.......2006-12-04

I picked Orange Moon Over Brooklyn after I heard samples on Amazon, and was not disappointed by the album at all. "Brooklyn born and bred," Pumpkinhead hoses you with some tight lyrics right from the start of the album with a song called "Alkaline 'n' Acid." And the rest of the album is as good. I liked the album because lyrical content is somewhat serious but at the same time not heavy as, say Immortal Technique. Pumpkinhead is a talented lyricist with a very impressive flow. Pick this album up, it's fresh.

5 out of 5 stars Sorry.......2006-11-29

I'm listin to this for the first time in 06, and that is just wrong. I try to listen to massive amounts of hip-hop looking for classic releases. This is it!. Pumpkinhead is a ill MC. He would Kill a living B.I.G. and would compete w/ Big L. Dude is sick. I listen to a few of his battles and i don't think Canibus would try em. THat nice. Marco Polo is also real nice producer. I firts heard em on the new Boot Camp CD and he had two of the best tracks on that cd. He produced the whole CD on this one and all the tracks are kept fresh and different, really excellent from top to bottom. This is a classic that definitly handles all years from the golden era to the flashy suit to whatever we are in right now. YOu won't be dissappointed.

5 out of 5 stars The album you need to PUMP in your HEAD!!.......2006-07-07

Ladies+gentlemen welcome to the album of 2005. For all those that are sleeping on this album this is for you.....WAKE YA A** UP!!! From the catchy intro-track "alkaline+acid" right to the apocalyptic "anthem for the end of the world" there genuinely isnt a weak moment in sight. Now honestly how many albums can you say are like that nowadays, hiphop or otherwise?? That is certainly helped by the truely stellar production talent of Marco Polo but its ultimately portrayed by the immensely talented Pumpkinhead's rhymes. A hiphop fan first, he's basically making the type of music alot of us fans would love an opportunity+the ability to make. Ive no doubts that thanks to this album both Pump' and Marco's status will soar+we as fans should be very happy about that. Right from the gate the album explodes with a head nodding, granite hard beat+rhyme 2min freestyle feeling joint called "alkaline+acid" that basically prepares the listener for what they are about to bare witness to over the next hour. Then theres the truely excellent "authentic" featuring the talents of baratone singer DV Alias Khrist where they reminisce about how hiphop used to be+they're gonna bring it back. After hearing this track i'll bet that you'll agree with them. Then theres "i just wanna rhyme" and "trifactor" (feat.supatititon+wordsworth), 2 songs that deserve airplay on every radio every hour everyday til 2007. Then there's "grenades" where Pump' changes the subject matter+aims his vocal depth charges towards the war+George Bush and completly destroys him. Next up is the scratchfest that is "dp one interlude" where Pump's dj tears a phat Macro beat to shreads with his cuts+slices. Then we got "rock on" an ode to the underground where he shouts out all the acts that he believes should be signed+promoted properly, excellent. Then "anything" hits straight outta left-field where he talks how it was for him+his family growing up in a single parent household. Definitely the most personal joint on show. Then theres "swordfish" followed by "emcee". 2 of the strongest moments on here as Pump' displays his battling side to its full strength. Then theres the playful "jukebox" where he arranges the names of all the tracks he's loved into rhymes, original and catchy. Then comes "the best" which is exactly that. A high octane party joint where Pump sounds as if he's digging this as much as us. Then theres "monkey shine" featuring his crew the plague followed "here" an awesome track that leaves you begging for more. Finally we have "anthem for the end of the world" feat.jean grae where they wonder what will happen when the world ends. This album is the reason i still listen to hiphop+have hope that it'll get outta the mess its in with this jiggy+crunk cr*p thats polluting the airwaves. Please support cats like this so real hiphop can keep being released. Im out.

5 out of 5 stars Brooklyn's Finest.......2006-05-14

'Orange Moon Over Brooklyn' is a very, very good album indeed thanks to Pumpkinheads talent as an MC and also to Marco Polo, who entirely handles production. The production is consistently excellent with the Canadian producer lacing Pumpkinhead with varied yet always knocking beats. Some of the guests featured are: Supastition and the always brilliant Wordsworth, Archrival, who steals the show with his awesome flow and mind blowing breath control, the ever so beautiful and talented Jean Grae and Pumpkinheads crew, The Plague, of which fellow Brooklyn native and all round punchline champ, PackFM, is a member. So from battle raps to tales from Pumpkinheads childhood, this album is always entertaining and is definitely worthy of your time and money.
