5 out of 5 stars What the game is missing... street-oriented gangsta rap from the Compton legend!.......2006-10-11

I don't have to go back and tell you about MC Eiht's history. Up untill 1996 all this guy released were classics. After that, he released an awful album (Last Man Standing - even Eiht admited that he wasn't feeling this record), and after that a few good ones. But many were left with the feeling that right after the untouchable "Death Threatz", Eiht went into some other direction (only musically of course) - using beats that didn't really fit his lyrics and style overall. However, Eiht was one of the only rappers from the West, that stayed streed and never ever got caught up in all this stupid Rolex watches / Bentley cars/ chinchila coats, etc. etc, nonsense. He always remained true to the streets of Compton and to the strugle of everyday people. After leaving Mack 10's Hoo Bangin' Records, Eiht started releasing some deccent albums independently. And with his 2005 release (Veterans Day) he showed he could still drop classic albums! I didn't think Eiht would be able to make a better album than Veteran's Day but he surprised me. Big time! Yes. I think that "Affiliated" is almost on the same level as Death Threatz... It seems like Eiht decided that "f*** the industry, I'll go with my own sound, the one I always used untill 1997!". And he did that. The production is flawless, and it seems like a combination of his style on "We Come Strapped" and "Death Threatz", combined with a touch of the older CMW days. The old beats are back! The laid back beats, with that old-school R&B/soul feel to them... The low bass-lines, the piano keyboards... The classic Eiht sound is back. And it's so different than anything going on on the West Coast (or everywhere else actually). Producers are Chill, Raw Steele, DJ Subflo, Prodeje, DJ Silk and MC Eiht himself (in an interview, Eiht said that Battlecat worked on the album too, but I didn't see him in the credits)... So, that's it about the beats. Old Eiht fans will love them. And in terms of rapping, MC Eiht never changed, guys. It's the same West Coast Gangsta sh**. Eiht raps about the usual subjects (representing Compton, street life, hustlin, money hongry women..) and he does it the best, because he was one of those who invented and developed gangsta rap in the late 80's, and 90's... Some songs are hard and agressive but most of the songs have a laid-back feel to them. His long-time partners Chill and Boom Bam are all over the album (which is a good thing, since their verses are cool), but the other guest featured are pretty weak (it doesn't hurt the album too much, though)... I think that 4 of the songs on this album definitely belong to the MC Eiht's Greatest Hits album - songs 1 (CPT MF'z), 2 (Which Way is Up), 3 (Say Nuthin') and 6 (Gangsta Melody)... The other 10 ones are either great or just plain good and solid. The only 2 songs I am not feeling are 10 (Gangsta Minded) and 14 (Smoke Dis), but they do not take off the album's quality that much, just prevent it from being a classic...
Dear West Coast fans, MC Eiht showed us once again that you can get better with age. With over 15 albums under his belt (and counting), MC Eiht (who is 39 years old by the way) shows us that you don't have to get wack or soft with age (unlike so many rappers these days... don't make me mention names, there's not enough space for that), and you can still release great albums.

Eiht just gives his fans what they want and what they love about him... He doesn't wear any diamond chains, does not drive expensive cars. Like Eiht said on the interview "[Brothers] ain't feeling this [stuff]". This album is for those who want to hear music from the streets and about the streets. MC Eiht ain't goin' nowhere. Geah! The album is named "Affiliated" and everyone knows that Eiht is a Crip, but unlike many of those fake-wanna-be rappers (you know who they are) he doesn't rap about it too much or shout "crip" all over the album. I think that by "Affiliated" Eiht meant he is affiliated to the streets, and to the ghetto... You gotta admire that from an artist who has sold millions of albums worldwide...
    4.5 stars for "Affiliated".

4 out of 5 stars 11 th solo is another pretty good one from Eiht.......2006-04-22

18 years in the game and part of 19 CD's you know the Man is a true Blue vet from the CPT. This is the 15th album I have that he is affiliated with (11 solo's and 4 group albums), and of those it falls in the bottom half but still worthy of 4 stars, so it's not bad he just has alot of real grat/classic albums. A year and a half since his last solo the west side of Compton vet drops again. With 14 songs, 8 are good, 1 or 2 I skip, and 4 or 5 are ok. Guests are on all but 4 songs. Production is decent but not as good as he usually has. DJ Slip, Raw Steele, Prodeje of SCC, Tha Chill and DJ SubFlo do the production. A nice album for his fans but far from his best work.

5 out of 5 stars MC Eiht Is Authentic Compton...Geah!!!!.......2006-04-05

MC Eiht's "Affiliated" is the Compton rapper's nineteenth album release. His first enhanced disc, this special product contains 14 album tracks, exclusive interview footage and a new music video starring MC Eiht, performing the song "Say Nothin.'"
Among the album's authentic Compton born and bred tracks is the radio single, "CPT'z Bac (159 Remix Featuring CMW," produced by Raw Steel. Throughout "Affiliated," MC Eiht comes back strapped with his trademark style on new songs like "Where U Frum (Featuring Gangsta Luv of the Road Dawgs)." "Just Lean" is a laid back track by Chill and DJ Subflo, a drum and bass producer, who is also a well-known rave DJ. "Gangsta Minded (Featuring Jaz and Chill)" introduces Jaz, a female rapper.
This is authentic Compton. Keepin' it gangsta since 1988, MC Eiht has been releasing genuine issue Compton tracks. Accordingly, he has solidly earned the respect of his fans and peers in the industry. With his solo recordings, his work with Comptons Most Wanted and his stealthy collaborations, this highly prolific artist has now released 19 albums, and this number does not even include the greatest hits, compilation albums or feature film soundtrack albums that have also resulted. "Affiliated" stays true to his serious alliance with the streets of Compton, and beyond.
On the date of this album's release, Allhiphop.com dubbed MC Eiht as "an unstoppable gangsta," and listening to this album explains why.
MC Eiht's music is the soundtrack of the streets, and of the Hub City, Compton, California---a feat that is envied by many other artists, despite their heavy padding from corporate bankrolling that has helped spawn a growing number of fake, wanna-be imitators.
"Affiliated" is true blue. MC Eiht is real Compton.

If you love death metal, then you should own this. This album kicks ass and is a true testament to the power of death metal! Everything about this cd is good, no complaints whatsoever, the songs are the perfect mix of brutality and artfulness, the band really knows there stuff when it comes down to it, they can write songs and play there instruments perfectly. As far as sound quality goes, flawless i like the crunch of the guitar sound and the deep bass tone that really adds a distinct heaviness to the album. This album also has extra tracks 3 covers from obituary, massacer, and m.o.d. as a bonus to.

    Album Description

Cysseross album Protege Of The Game is a refreshing ReBirth of east coast rap.. this IS the new breed and Cyssero shows it on the cd which features The Game and Akon. The motive behind it is simple... Cyssero wants to allow the listener to see that its not the deal you have, its not the budget or features you have its the force of delivery and force of flow that draws you to the flame.

SIMPLY A GOOD CHOICE, HIS OTHER ALBUM (PHILLY'S BAD GUY) IS RATED 4 STARS AND THIS IS BETTER THAN THAT

1 out of 5 stars Cyssero - Protege of the Game.......2007-01-26

Cyssero (A.K.A. Michael Williams, Rockstar) sophomore album is "Protege of The Game" (2007). The Philadelphia MC provides a fourteen track releases with guest appearances from Akon and Game. Cyssero is affiliated with The Game's Black Wall Street label and has appeared on their mixtapes. Cyssero's previous release was "Philly's Bad Guy" (2006). Cyssero opens the album up with two similar hardcore cuts, repping himself, and rhyming with a grimy flow. In contrast is the upbeat sounding "So Fresh", which has Cys rhyming about his clothes, money and backed by repetitive record vocals - in a track which never really goes anywhere. Cyssero continues to drop below average rhymes backed by halfhearted production on "Im A Rida" , "I Feel Ya", "Stick Em" using the same repetitive rhyme style. The best track on this release is "Fire In Ya Eyes" a track which the Game leads on, Cyssero hold's his own on this cut which pays tribute to a favourite gun. Cyserro borrows D12's 40 ounce beat for "Letcha 40 Pop". Akon's vocals are used for "Natural Born Hustla", Cyssero doesn't take this cut anywhere special. Cyssero then rhymes about what it's like to be "Locked Down". I am not impressed with "Protege of the Game". Their is very little variety in production, content and lyrics, a better artist can sometimes get away with this if he's got charisma, half decent flow - Cyssero lack's both of these qualities. 1.5.

5 out of 5 stars Looking for an awesome gospel rap album? This is the one!.......2007-05-01

Although many might not agree with the use of the n-word and the sometimes violent content of this album, The Gospel Gangstaz surely came correct on this classic 1994 debut! Just about everything on this album is perfectly done. The production is of course shoddy, Which can usually ruin a rap album, But here that just enhances it! This is the rawest sounding gospel rap album ever released and with good reason. The guys are former gang members from la and they got saved only maybe 1 or 2 years before the release of this album and this is actually a gospel rap album that has the capability to appeal to christians and non-christians alike. If you love Ice Cube, MC Eiht, N.W.A, Eazy-E, Early Snoop Dogg, Above The Law, Or pretty much any west coast rap pre-1996, You are gonna be in for a treat when your ears hear the stuff that comes from this album! Tik Tokk, Chille Chill, Mr. Solo, And DJ Dove [Formerly of SFC] all bring nothing but heat on this very edgy and very street christian album. The best part is is that the guys don't try to sound like they're better than everyone else and they don't sound prideful with their faith in Jesus which makes for an even more enjoyable listen. Once the album starts, You can't help but bob ya head [And maybe even get hype] to the cuts on this album. From the gritty ''Before Redemption'' to the deep ''Testimony'' to the party-ready ''Gospel Gangsta Voyage'', This album has it all. Even the skits [Which there are plenty of] are all funny and very revealing. I bet if one were to blast ''Mobbin'' anywhere in california, I bet all the old school west coast rap fans there would get down instantly! The even more fascinating thing about this album is that this album could've easily been profane and extremely violent like the west coast rap that was coming out at the same time period, But this album is relatively clean [Unless you are offended by the n-word] and very fun as well as gangsta. In fact, This album is just as gangsta as the Death Row records albums that were coming out at the time! ''Tears of A Black Man'' dares to go where much gospel rap albums wouldn't even dare go into: Racial issues. The song, Which is a Mr. Solo-only track, is very Public Enemy-like in terms of lyrics and is very realistic and it's a wonder the lyrics to this song was never considered a hip-hop quotable by The Source [''I got the mind, like the kind of Benjamin Bannicker/Still i'm only good enough to be a janitor/My pocket is void so i'm paranoid/I fed off thousands of that, Still i'm unemployed'']. With its extremely catchy reggae hook, ''Tears Of A Black Man'' Reminds one of early conscious rap like KRS-ONE, Public Enemy, Brand Nubian, And X-Clan. If a few of these beats to these songs sound familiar, It's because a few of these beats were used by other west coast rappers [The beat to ''One Time'' was actually used by Ice Cube for ''How To Survive In South Central'', The beat to ''Vengeance Is Mine'' was used by Spice 1 for ''F'ed In The Game'', And the beat to ''Before Redemption'' was later slowed down and used by Snoop for a little-known song called ''Too Black'', Which appeared on the outtakes cd ''Dead Man Walkin''], But these are all still hot songs today. These songs should've made some old school hip-hop compilations by now! No doubt in my mind that if this cd wasn't about finding Jesus, This cd would be honored alongside other west coast classics like The Chronic, Doggystyle, Straight Outta Compton, And Life Is Too Short. Much gospel rap before about 1997 was horrible [with the exceptions of these guys, Grits, And T-Bone], But this is actually one of the very few earlier gospel rap albums that's worth having today. While this is not really the first hardcore gospel rap album [That honor belongs to T-Bone's 1993 debut ''The Life Of A Hoodlum''], It's definitely the greatest all-around gospel rap album to ever be released. For once, This is a gospel rap album that's actually a major force to be reckoned with and i would actually even take it a step further to say this is one of the best rap albums of the 1990's. I could see ''Before Redemption'' or even ''Y Can't Da Homiez Hear Me?'' being on the soundtrack to a movie like ''Menace II Society'' and that's surely something i will probably only say about this album. Is this the most spiritual gospel rap album out there? No. But if it's deep theology and lyrical bible studies you want, Go buy something from The Cross Movement. If it's a godly message mixed with tight funky old school G-funk beats that you're looking for, Buy this album. 1 of my friends ordered this album off of here for my birthday [Bless his soul] and this cd hasn't come out of my cd player since! Once you own this cd, You don't really need any other gospel rap cd's. I have yet to find a gospel rap album that's better than this one. The Gospel Gangstaz were never better on any of their other albums that followed this one.

        5 out of 5 stars Classic.......2007-04-06

Definitely the rawest and arguably the best Christian rap album ever. Buy it. Now.

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST CHRISTIAN RAP ALBUM TO DATE!!!.......2006-10-26

This is far the best Christian Rap Album that has been produced to this day. Every one of these songs are excellent. This is a rare CD now-a-days, but it is worth the investment. A MUST HAVE.

5 out of 5 stars FROM CHRONIC TO GG'S.......2006-10-03

This CD will go down in HISTORY as one of the greatest Christian Rap Albums. In fact, even T-Bone no disrespect, had nothing on the GG's in early 1990's. If you came from the ghetto, barrio, hood, or whatever you call it, and Jesus saved you, this is what you were listening to. If you were a Chronic fanatic, this is what kept you in church and you know it. I thank God for this CD and all the way to the latest, The Flood, GG's have not lost the heartbeat of reaching the Gangtaz. If you love Rap and Jesus, this CD is a most have. A bit of warning, the phrase 'nigga' is used often. It's ghetto style Rap, better get used to it.

5 out of 5 stars Pioneers! ... and yes in yo face!.......2006-07-15

Yes this is very much early 90's old school gangsta rap, but it will always be a classic. I grew up in church so I was not allowed to listen to the secular stuff, so I was always disappointed with what Christian rap was producing in those days. So when these guys came out, I was completely blown away! I had to keep reading the lyrics just to see if these guys were really Christian. Wow, was I pleasantly surprised. Not only did these guys have serious skillz on the mic, but these guys were not afraid to be in your face about God, life, where they came from, etc. These guys paved the way for Christian rap/Hip hop today. And to think that these guys were former gang bangers- "Bloods" and "Crips" is unbelievable... those guys hate each other, but only God can change the lives of two rival gang members and put them in the same group... Amazing! Their other albums are definite must have's for your collection, but "Gang Affiliated" is a classic, a collectors item. So grab it and keep it in your collection.

And yes this album is VERY TOUGH on the ears, but remember at that time, these guys had just barely gotten saved and had only known the ways of these streets there in Compton before this album... which is why track #2 "Before Redemption", knocks you to the floor. And I don't think I've ever heard the phrase, "... havin sex so much, I'm losin weight" on a Christian album before... so be warned, but be blessed! Cuz if God can change their lives, there is hope for you!

This is the type of music needed in the urban community. It expresses realism in the way things happen in "da hood".I as a black man from inner-city chicago can relate to the mobism being displayed amongst these true brothers and there mighty lyrics. These brothers are truly blessed with the gift of knowledge so seldomly possessed by today's youth. In closing I'd like to give a mighty holla out to the brothers for being bold enough to drop such down home lyrics.Peace & Love!
