This is a great set of recordings for the money, the only problem was I've had to clean some of the CD's before they played correctly.

This set is a good way to start listening to classical music. It's very well produced and easy to listen to. I purchased it to use as part of my world history high school class. It would have been nice to have some bio information on the composers. However, the product is exactly as advertised and good value for the money. The students were intrigued by how many of the excerpts they had heard before.

Some little gems there that I had forgotten!.......2007-03-30

Although I studied classical music at school, I had all but forgotten it until I bought this set. I heard several tracks I haven't heard for over 30 years, and I had been humming Brahms's 'Hungarian Dance no. 5' for years without ever knowing what it was and it was on the disc, so that was nice.

I found it to be a very good selection overall, but I felt too much had already been heard on TV, which of course is what lots of newcomers to classical music might appreciate. I managed to find about 2 hours of tracks that I wanted to keep, which works out quite expensive per disc, but I did find some wonderful music I had completely forgotten about, so it was worth it. All in all, it represents good value, and I have only knocked one star off as so much of it had been used in adverts.

It is definitely a good introduction to classical music, and it has made me want to listen to more of it, so I don't regret this 'expensive' purchase one bit!

I define this set as an excellent way to find out who you like, and who you don't, among 20 of the important composers. It opens the door to purchasing more complete pieces by composers you do like, and can save a lot of time and money in the process.
To criticize the set for not containing more composers, or more than just snippets of those who are in the set, is missing the point: it is a helpful introduction to finding your way in the huge maze of classical music. It succeeds admirably in this.
Sound quality is uniformly very good on an audiophile system.
Highly recommended.

A great way to start a classical music collection. It's nice to have a full CD of each composer. It makes it easy to keep track of selections/composers I already have and what composers I still need to puchase to complete my collection.

This is one of the best punk albums. It is a lot like the dead boys, but actually slightly better, higher quality songs. And even more energy. If you like dead boys, you'll definetly like this. messin' with the kid is a great bob dylan-esque song. But the rest are just great intense rocknroll. Definetly buy this if you like stooges and early punk. seriously. its so good. It's way better than the clash, pistols, maybe dead boys, as good as the damned's debut. Its so good.

Top notch, brutal Aussie rock'n'roll!.......2004-08-04

This is the kind of album by the kind of band that blows stupid labels like "punk" or "pre-punk" outta the water. The Saints pretty much follow in the footsteps of all the great rock'n'roll bands who had the guts to play music with soul and play it loud. F.M. radio would be so much better today if the network dweebs who claimed to love rock'n'roll had played this type of stuff instead of inventing the lame a#%s "classic rock " genre which pretty much sentenced music fans to 25 years of Zep and Framton! In the late 1970's "I'm Stranded " set a new high water mark for red-blooded rock'n'roll. Go buy it....NOW!

One of the original punk rock artifacts.......2003-03-30

Sure, it sounds like it was recorded on a RadioShack C-120 cassette in an aluminum shack during a hailstorm with the treble turned up to ten, but what a buzz this album still delivers! The cranked momentum of the manic title song amazingly leads into more dementia, stopping for a breather only during the six-minute stomp of "Messin' With the Kid" and the (comparatively) Dylanesque "Story of Love", and then racing to the finish line with the mind-melting Stooges-style riff-insanity of "Nights in Venice". Ed Keupper's lead guitar is all fuzz and treble throughout, spinning flashy solos where punks weren't supposed to do such things, and Chris Bailey's gruff howl attains a tuneful charisma seemingly through the force of will. It was a pleasant surprise in '77; it sounds even more surprising now.

Apparently the Saints were one of those weird quirks of spontaneous invention -- like where the wheel or the hot-air popcorn popper are invented on separate continents at the same time -- in 1976, Australia's greatest punk band, the Saints, came out with a blistering salvo of snotty, kickass guitar rock that was as notable or as gnarly as anything Joey Ramone or Steve Cook were thinking up that year. They also conjured up a major-label record deal, which helped get their foot in the door pretty early in the annals of punk history. This whole album doesn't floor me, but the single - "I'm Stranded" is an unconquerable blast of edgy, snarly pure punk heaven. Also check out their second album, "Eternally Yours," which is about eight times as amazing. Both albums are highly recommended!

Good Times, Good Music, Must Buy.......2002-03-22

Theres not a lot to say about this album. It just so dang good! This is a must buy for any fan of Punk Rock. This is the Saints best album by far...

What a truly refreshing sound! This lovely young lady is who you've been waiting for. She's got the style of Shania, combined with the close to the knuckle writing of John Mellencamp's style. Then throw in a splash of James Taylor. Not only is her writing a welcome change to today's sound (she penns all of her own songs!), but her delivery is upbeat and sultry. Her band is a taste of the classic legends, including Chet McCracken, from The Doobie Brothers, and Cris Pinnick, from Chicago. Her career is definitely promising and I can't wait for her next studio recorded CD. Get this now, and get on board The Train!

The Freis Cd not only reflects in a positive way, it is also a refreshing positive in such a negative driven society. Even in "one Early Morning", where Dave expresses discernment through the moment in life when he witnessed another travisty of life, John Lennons murder. "Live Today" is a real strengthening song as it reaffirms the fact of thee importance of each day.

Besides the words and reflective nature of the music, it leaves you with a musical progression, a layered affect with everytime you listen to it, you get more out of it.

I am looking forward to listening to more of Freis, I will be getting it, my teenage kids love it, my girlfriend loves it, so it's a positive music exprience ~ good for the whole family!

Dave's debut cd entitled "Freis" is wonderful collection of songs that will inspire you to want to play them over and over again! There is such a nice variety of song styles that you can play this cd driving in your car or just relaxing at home. There is a classic rock feel to most of the songs, a la the Beatles. The guitar solos are one of the highlights on this cd, and give the songs a very contemporary feel. A very impressive debut cd with quality songwriting!

Are you ready for the greatest albumn since Abbey Road by the Beatles? If you are check out David Freis in his GREAT CD "FREIS"! His songs are incredible with the unbelievable rythmn of the drums, the smooth strumming of the guitar and the hot guitar riffs that make each one unique. If you're looking for songs from the heart, this albumn is packed with 7 great hits including "He is the One," "One Early Mourning," "Watching the World," "Mount Evans," "Live Today," "Ask, Search, Knock," and my personal favorite "We are Friends!" This CD is electrifying and is well worth the price... I think it's the best CD you buy for the price and can't wait for his next albumn!

The Dave Fries CD is inspiring. Each song is unique and the lyrics are from the heart. It combines smooth guitar riffs with a strong pounding drumbeat. The guitar solos are creative and appear to be inspired by a Rush like guitar sound. People that enjoy the mellow music of Tom Petty and the Beatles combined with the modern electric guitar of Rush and Queensryche will definitely enjoy this album. The combinations of the Beatles and contemporary rock make it a great CD for old and young alike. For ten bucks it's a great deal for a CD that's worth much more. Dave Fries needs to go ahead and release another album. I will be the first to buy it.
