These guys are such a great group. Their music, in my mind, is timeless and I still listen to it often. My favourite song of theirs is In The Mood and that's here on this cd as well as Chocolate Girl. This is some serious sexy music and something all romantics and lovers of good soul, old school r 'n' b would love, so you must get this if you want a definitive collection of their beautiful ballads. I highly recommend this.

They dont make music like this anymore. And it's unfortunate. Teddy Pendergrass MEANT IT when sang a song. You can feel it. You can taste it. Soul R&B from this era is totally different from what it is today. These guys actually cared about their music FIRST. The almighty dollar was nice, dont get me wrong, but for artists like Teddy Pendergras, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Freddie Jackson, Jeffrey Osbourne, etc. their music, and the quality of their music, came first. Todays artists will put out any old piece of crap just for the money. Their music has no soul. This is a beautiful album. I love to put this album on and just let it run. Teddy has such a beautiful voice and his lyrics come right from his heart and soul. When Mr. Pendergrass is hurting in a song, the listeneer is also hurting. This music is timeless. I wish todays artists would wake up.

Teddy Pendergrass put it down on every slow jam on this album. Every song is classic, but the masterpieces everyone has heard. Close the Door, Love TKO, Turn Off The Lights, You're My Latest My Greatest Inspiration, Come Go With Me. Everything is crystal clear and timeless. The lyrics are beyond greatness and the instrumentation beautiful. Simply Put it's a must have. Don't hesitate!

A fine collection that had room for more..........2003-06-16

Despite its featuring some of TP's most popular slow jams it could have included "Is It Still Good To Ya?" which is the crowning moment of the "TP" album. With that exception, this is one nice compilation full of romantic gems from an R&B legend.

Alright, class, I don't think I ask for much in my music, na'mean? Jus' a nice groove, lush n' firm vocals an' some content I can relate to. Not even necessarily relate to, jus' sumpin' with SUBSTANCE, 'cause my mind is starved for that in this year 2003. I grew up hearin' Teddy Pendergrass, my sister was ALL ABOUT some Teddy P. an' I picked it up from that point. Is' jus' that voice, is' guttural an' raw yet seductive at the same time, e'nuff 'ta work two bodies up into a frenzy. Serious point though, listen to this at nighttime, by a fireplace, with a woman, an' some wine. She might think you pourin' it on a lil' thick when she heats 'Love T.K.O.' an' 'Close the Door', but when that 'Turn Out the Lights' comes on, ohhhh man, is' ON! Teddy'll be screamin' an' shoutin' an' you'll be pretty much sangin' along. This disc is a must fa' the bachelor's pad or the player's ball, 'cause if you think you got game an' your collection is missin' Teddy P., then, son, you don't have no idea what you're doin'. Alright, class dismissed. For homework tonight, go buy this CD. If I don't see no struttin' or no confident smiles when y'all come back, I'm'a mark you down as a zero, 'cause I'll know you ain't do your homework.

If you are a serious "Frankie" fan, and even if you are not, this CD is a must for your collection. Most if not all of his most recognizable ballads are included, and it makes you think about your wonderful concert memories every time that you hear it. Maze is one of those groups that doesn't need to put out any new music because they have such a prolific catalog of classic party jams and "blue lights" ballads, but, if you had to have one CD that embodies the best of his ballad collection,...this is IT!! Anyone who has (repeatedly) seen Frankie and Maze perform live knows the quality and timelessness of these songs......don't even think about it,....BUY THIS ONE TODAY!

I think this collection is very good.Franky Beverly's voice is amazing.I love the arrangements of all the songs.Its something about Franky's voice that's just magical.My favorite songs on the cd are "Happy Feelings","We Are One","I Love You Much To Much",and "When You Love Someone".I'm telling you,this cd is the real deal.I totally recommend this cd to anybody.It is excellent.

How can you have a true Maze Slow Jam compilation without "Lady of Magic!" Not only that but where is "Golden Time of Day" and "While I'm Alone?" Those are classic, classic cuts and should be automatically included in any collection! Since some really great songs are missing from this CD, it is really closer to 3.5 stars than 4, but I couldn't bring myself to rate such a beautiful voice and hardworking group any less.

If you looking for a disc that have the best slow jams ever assembled .. You dont have to look no further then to this disc right here .. Every song on this disc is great.. CD reads like a who's who in romantic soul music.. Slow Jams: The Timeless Collection, Vol. 1 features eleven greatslow jams from the seventies. If you want some sensuality check out Tonight's The Night by Betty Wright ,Let's Get It On by Marivn Gaye and the guartneed boot knocker Between The Sheets by The Isley Brothers. If you need a song to help you through the heartbreak then there's Why Have I Lost You by Cameo and I'm Going Down by Rose Royce. Fiannly for some devoted love you have I Just Wanna Be Your Girl by Chapter 8 and the CLASSIC Cause I Love You by Lenny Williams.

This compilation continues what was started on Greatest Slow Jams, volume one. It even includes some rare cuts from the group's Soul Clock/Janus years ("I Only Meant To Wet My Feet"; "I'm The One"; "Somebody Loves You"; "Seems Like I Gotta Do Wrong"). Combine them with notable omissions from the first Slow Jams ("Just Gets Better With Time"; "Lost And Turned Out") and you have a solid package that will please all of The Whispers' slow-jammin' fans. There is one mistake on the packaging. The song included here is "I'm The One," which was written by Dee Ervin and appeared on their Janus album, "Planets Of Life." It is NOT the listed song, "I'm The One For You," that was written by Gene Dozier and appeared on their Solar album, "This Kind Of Lovin'."

A somewhat dismissive review of this album on allmusic.com (''the results (although pleasant) are uneventful and somewhat predictable. Good for late-night background music rather than for close listening'') spurred me to write a counter view on an album I have come to love. But I see several other Amazon consumers are there ahead of me, and express opinions with which I concur. This is one of the most finely developed collections in the entire Jimmy Smith oeuvre. We fans of Smith love the Chicken Shack groove and the Mojo heat, but here he is surpassingly sublime on, for example, ''Tenderly'' in duet with Christian McBride. I can only endorse the other five-star reviews and am pleased to find others share my delight.

One of the great mysteries in the history of organ jazz is the lack of solo recordings from the old organ masters (you can find solo organ recordings from Barbara Dennerlein and Rhoda Scott). Given the unlimited possibilities and sounds from the Hammond B-3 organ, this instrument is far more colourful than the piano for solo recordings. Recording history can't be changed but with this excellent small format album, Jimmy Smith delivers one of his most memorable albums, almost closing the gap to a have a solo recording under his belt (yes, he recorded some great solo tunes on "The Sound Of Jimmy Smith" on Blue Note, not to forget). This recording marks Jimmy return to Verve Recorded in 1995, which also resulted in the "Damn" album. "Angel Eyes: Ballads & Slow Jams" presents Jimmy in a variety of small formats - from solo, duo, trio..and sextet. Jimmy gives the beloved tunes "Bess, Oh Where's My Bess" and "What What A Wonderful World" a real solo treat utilizing the dynamic range of two manuals and pedals with his phenomenal technique and passion for the balladry. An unusual and stunning performance is the duo performance with Christian McBride on acoustic bass and Jimmy on organ bass, "Tenderly" will never be the same after this. With Nicholas Payton, Mark Whitfield, Roy Hargrove and Gregory Hutchinson as sidemen gives the album the right high quality slow-down moods as expected from the album title.

Being a a fan of Jimmy Smith since 1966, I was impressed how Smith had advanced his art. Smith has always been famous for his speed, funk and melody, but "Angel Eyes" greatly magnifies these traits beneith the heavy cloak of soporific balladry - and these ballards are absolutely beautiful. If you are new to the B3 organ or a long time fan, there is no better recording to highlight the power of this instrument and its Godfather. Smith distills a half century of life and playing into one of the finest jazz recordings of all time. This recording just gets better and better after every listening. If you could pick only five jazz recordings to take to another planet (assuming you couldn't return home for more), this would easily make the cut. (The guitar work is very tasty as well.)

Who would have suspected that Jimmy Smith would put out something this great this late in his career? This is music so cool and laid-back that it takes a few listens to realize how deep and complex it is. This is fine music by a mature artist.
