There's a song on this record..........2006-05-21

First of all, whomever mixed this record did a remarkable job -- perfect in fact. Pearcy's voice is down in the mix, an equal element in the sum of the sound. This record isn't Pearcy with a band playing under him. This is a band playing together, tightly fused, grooving with and off one another. It's produced as pure, crystalline rock, with no bells and whistles to get in the way of guys who know how to play and let it flat-out pour from the gut. All that said, I really like only one song on the album (but I'll listen to three or four others). But, oh, that one song. A rock masterpiece. Thick, chunky, sonic, lyrical, joyful. It's rock at the top of Mt. Everest. Sheer nirvana. You've gotta play it double -- repeat it immediately so it plays twice. And, of course, you've gotta let your speaker cones really flex... loud, baby. So what's the song? Not saying. Out of respect for the band, I don't want people going on online to download it without buying the album. These guys deserve the wherewithal to continue making music. And they, the band, know which song I'm talking about.

This is some of Stephen Pearcy's best work. You can tell from listening to this album that SEP put a lot of effort into Social Intercourse. The production is great and the songs just rule. My favorite track from the album is Live to Die, which is an awesomely catchy song. Even my friends that hate Ratt loved that song. The song In Like Pink was released as the single from the album and sounds very similar to Ratt's "Your in Trouble" with the whole intro and bass line. Other awesome songs include I gotta be me, Turn it upside down, and Ya Gotta Love that. This album kicks ass...get it.

Pleasantly Surprised.......2005-01-07

It should be noted as we start that I enjoy Stephen Pearcy's vocals a lot. He is not the greatest, but he is distinct. I enjoy all of his post Ratt projects to a point so I figured I would try this cd on for size. I was surprised to find I enjoyed it more than any of his other stuff.
The album starts off with "I Gotta Be Me." The album is raw and dirty. No polish or shine but I think that was intentional. The aforementioned song is great for singing along and turning up loud. The albums is covered with catchy tunes and I credit Mr. Pearcy for that. The only complaint for the album is that the songs do sound very similar, however they are all great rock n roll tunes so it happens.
Overall I say this album is worth picking up if you enjoy RATT or straight driving Hard Rock music. I enjoy it immensely.

If you enjoyed the early Ratt years, the EP and Cellar! Get ready for a treat with Social Inercourse. The music is raw and angry. This cd has a more updated sound but still keeps the sound of early Ratt. Lookout for Round-n-Round 2003!

A Must Buy.......2003-03-11

This review won't sound much different that the rest. I too love this cd. I've always been a Pearcy fan. I own all of his work and this cd is a great cd. It's heavy yet a touch of "glam" if I dare use the word. It's todays sound with a bit of 80's feel. That make sense?? Stephen now is on tour for this cd and I intend to be at one of his shows in the area. If you just wanna turn it up LOUD and jam, this cd works! Pearcys has a lot of things going on and if you're new to Stephen Pearcy's work, go to his web site and stay updated @ www.....com.

Classic Puppy........2006-02-13

Well this isn't The Puppy's best release but it has several essential tracks such as "One Time, One Place", "Dig It", "200 years", "Three Blind Mice" and "Chainsaw" which is pretty much one of the freakn coolest SP songs ever! Not as dark or disturbing as their later stuff but with more of a dance vibe. A couple of the songs are a bit weak for Skinny Puppy standards but when the songs are good they tend to be damn good.

Not The Best Choice For First Timers.......2005-12-03

It's come to my attention from a Wikipedia article about the lawyer, Jack Thompson(He's a lawyer who is trying to fight against the videogame industry and wants to censor violent videogames), that an Amazon reviewer gave his book a 5 star rating during what JT called a bookstorming and that review was removed (They filled up the book with negative tags, photoshopped pictures, and 1 star reviews). The positive review was by a user called BushSupporter who appears to be against Skinny Puppy as well as videogames. Anyway, if you're here because you hate Jack Thompson and are curious about the band you may want to skip this CD unless you're already into harsh Industrial music. Don't get me wrong. It's an awesome piece of work but I don't feel it's going to appeal to first timers. Skinny Puppy made later releases that are a lot easier to swallow for first time listeners. Those releases are The Greater Wrong of the Right, The Process, and Rabies. Rabies being the least accessible of those three but it still has Al Jourgensen's guitars (the vocalist and guitar player from Ministry).

Beautiful........2004-09-20

Since ordering this album 3 days ago, I have listened to this album 12 times all the way through. Contrary to most reviewers here, I really don't find this album evil, or dark. If you want dark listen to Last Rights, and I don't really think SP was ever evil. They're one of the most moral bands I know. Anyway, this album is very melodic and ethereal, and actually contains one of SP's happiest songs, namely "Love". The way it's put together reminds me of flowing water. Also, the art is excellent. Here's my track by track.

1) One Time One Place (9/10) A good song, but there's nothing about it that really distinguishes it from the others. Kinda sounds like something from their next album, CFM.

2) God's Gift (Maggot) (10/10) VERY cool. The weird slowed down talking adds to the song, and the stuttery, loud sections where he's screaming are awesome.

3) Three Blind Mice (10/10) The synth on this one is very good. Puts you in a trance.

4) Love (10/10) Their best instrumental. Very, VERY well put together. Shows that even industrial artists actually do write songs, rather than just putting sounds together (Scrapyard, anyone?).

5) Stairs and Flowers (11/10) Genious. A funky, cool beat with some weird vocal sounds from Ogre for about 3 minutes, as well as some seemingly random synth notes and noises. Then, all of the sudden, a bubbly synth line begins, and it strangely harmonizes with everything going on. Awesome.

6) Antagonism (10/10) Great synth again, and some memorable lyrics. "Living, yet unaware. Asking do you really care?".

7) 200 Years (9/10) A good instrumental with song awesome samples. "What's wrong with you? What's wrong with everybody in this crazy place!?".

8) Dig It (10/10) This song deserved its fame. Perfect.

9) Burnt With Water (8/10) EXTREMELY WEIRD. Some strange cymbals with Ogre randomly yelling 'Behavior!'. It would've been a great experiment if it was a bit shorter.

Bonus tracks:

10) Chainsaw (9/10) A somewhat unmemorable typical-for-this-time-period SP song with a cool bass line. I love the pitch bended opera voice.

11) Addiction (First Dose) (8/10) Very minimalistic, they cut out over half the background sound and keyboards from the CFM version, but its somehow likeable anyway. You can also hear the vocals much better, which are in general very quiet on CFM.

12) Stairs and Flowers (Too Far Gone) (9/10) Like the original without my favorite synth part. I like some of the new synth stuff they added, though.

13) Deep Down Trauma Hounds (8/10) See Addiction (first dose).

Overall, this is a great album, exactly what I was looking for when I ordered it. It's one of SP essential albums along with Last Rights, Process, Too Dark Park and VIVIsect VI. It's a lot more synth focused than any others from this time in their career. I havent heard Bites, but CFM was pretty much based on percussion and being creepy. I like this MUCH better than that though.

a master/monsterpiece.......2004-06-30

All i can say about this album is that i have been listening to it for the last 13 or so years and I love it as much as the day i first purchased it. I had never heard something so solid raw,enigmatic and fresh from beginning to end all the while finding myself asking "How do they get sounds like that recorded on a cd?".

Forget lotsa hair, headbanging and playing guitars at 200 mph (altho some bands do this very well) the experience this album gives is something that I cannot define. I play this record for friends, many of them death metal fans and i get this creeped out, uneasy initial response and then a sort of reserved and cautious groove as the songs progress. When they see photos from the TDP tour they realise why SP, before Jim Rose were receiving "falling ovations".

This is a serious milestone in music, the analogue beats and sounds are unprecedented. It separates itself from other industrial music as it shy's away from the same bland drum-machine generated 4/4 beats that plagued a great deal of 80's industrial music. The brief use of Gregorian chants in "Dig It" is just an example of the plethora of snippings that Puppy used to create its collage of sound ( an idea Enigma used 5 years later to sell millions of albums) but to do what Skinny Puppy did would require some seriously open-minded masses to sell albums on that scale. When I listen to this album today I can barely, with the exception of a few synth sounds, date the music. In some ways it sounds better than much of today's production - drum sounds especially. I also enjoy the use of Gustav Dore's wonderful etchings as the interior sleeve art melded with SRG's as always brilliant album covers.

This album is kind of like Chinese medicine in the West - It was years ahead of its time and even by todays standards, with all the technological advances, still has a few secrets and advantages that even though when imitated, dissected, or scrutinized and misunderstood, it still stands as a unique and timeless masterpeice. Brap.

puppies: one big documented experimentation.......2003-07-24

this i quite a good release, i didnt like it at first, but then i heard addiction, and chainsaw, and i was like woah, we have a winner on our hands. now, the whole album has this vibe to it, with powerfull beats, and subtle synth parts that make a big impact. this album is also has the "skinny puppy classic" dig it, ... well, this album is great, thats all i can say, just give it time, and it will grow on you, and might i say there are 2 experimental songs that are quite good, 200 years has a kick arse drum beat, and the remix of stairs and flowers is muuch better than the origonal(spell check) so, there you are, ad you cant really say that any of their albums is bad, its a experiment, so its about the evolution of it all, and either you like it, or its just there.

The most Unique Album ever Made.......2006-04-18

Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse is a timeless work, ahead of its time when it came out and still ahead of anything i've ever heard to date. This album is possibly my favorite album of all time.

One Time One Place is rather one of the less mind blowing tracks of the album, but it sets the pace and lets you *slightly* know what is to come.

God's Gift(Maggot) is probably the most horrific Skinny Puppy song ever made(however possibly Knowhere or State Aid), it begins with pounding synths that seem to crush the insides of your brain. Sheer Terror, and incredible.

Three Blind Mice starts out with a catchy stacatto chime sound, and creates a trance.

Love is a great track that relieves you of the intensity of the past 3 tracks.

Stairs And Flowers is probably my favorite Skinny Puppy song, it is just so unique, I have never heard anything like it. It has one of the greatest synths in it that I have ever heard, a sort of classical sound that fits in perfectly with the deathly ghoul moans and Nivek's harrowing wails.

Antagonism is one of my lesser liked tracks off the album, however it is still an incredible song. This track brings back the uncomfortable tension of the album, after the Love + Stairs & Flowers break. The synths are great, sorta like Three Blind Mice.

200 Years starts in with awesome beating tribal drums and a grinding synth noise. Very entertaining song with samples of someone saying, "What's Wrong with you, WHAT'S WRONG WITH EVERYONE IN THIS CRAZY PLACE!!!!" then not sure if it is Ohgr's modified voice or just sampling, right after that screams set the pace of the song.

Dig It breaks in with a cool beat and a rocking guitar that comes in and out. It is one of Skinny Puppy's staple songs and is more presentable that the previous tracks.

Burnt With Water, incredible, on par with Stairs And Flowers in its creativity. Starts with an even pulsing hand shake bell sound and cool synths, and a man talking about I cannot figure out what. Then Nivek comes in and screams Behavior. It is possible that I like this track so much just because of the mosque chants that you can hear somewhere around 2:30 in the song
***This arabic mosque chant is the EXACT same chant as the speaker Mosque in the Motorcade Interception level of Hitman 2:Silent Assassin.*** I know that sounds kinda ridiculous but it was one of my favorite games, and finding out that my favorite band used a sample that was in that game, some 13 w/e years before that game came out, is pretty cool to me.

*Note: Burnt With Water was originally the last track of the album, but the others were added on later versions.

Chainsaw is an awesome song with a sweet baseline and cool drums and great synths... wtf I think that about all SP songs. This is another track that is more presentable than the others. The refrain on this track is incredible, it is just such perfect words by Ohgr, completely unique and not bland in any way, I have to state them:

O also, I shouldn't forget the sound of the chainsaws ripping :)

I'm not gonna talk about Addiction + DDTH cause they don't even have a meaningful purpose to this album, they are and belong on Cleanse Fold & Manipulate.

Mind: Perpetual Masterpiece........2005-12-23

Skinny Puppy's "Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse" is a brilliant masterpiece. The album is well developed, well layered, and very unique among the music industry. This album is dark, and the sounds will drown you in its shadows. The lyrics are dark and intellectual. Ogre's strong philosophical views, and his dangerous voice make KORN look like barney dancing with little children. If you do not enjoy the CD it is because of a few things.
A) It was too hellish seeming
B) You as a listener, are naive and young to subculture music.
C) You like guitars and bass and stimuli that isn't original.
D) You listen to Slipknot, who looks like a pussy compared to Skinny Puppy.
E) There are more, but I'll spare the insults

The heavy mechanical noises, and the infinite seeming sounds, come from all corners. The album truly defines individual artisty, and should be taken in as an art concept, it may be weak as something to head band too....which is ridiculous anyway.
This album isn't one a group of people can listen to. Give the album a try, and listen to it in your room. Take in the art that is Skinny Puppy.

Mind: Perpetual Intercourse ~ Skinny Puppy.......2005-05-10

Mind: Perpetual Intercourse being Skinny Puppys 1988 release showed how ahead of their time they truly were. Their use of samples, mixing guitar riffs and electronic muisc was basically unheard of back in 1988 and Nivek Ogre mixes theatre, music and art and has managed to create something quite unique. The use of vocal treatments is also ahead its time and there are so many awesome tracks on it like one time one place, stairs and flowers and many others. I love their use of the vocoder, explosive keyboard sounds and Ogres angry and venom filled vocals.

Definetly Ahead Of Its Time.......2004-12-09

Its hard to believe, almost incomprehensible that this came out when I was a 15 year old sophomore in high school. An old friend of mine lost a couple cds of mine in 1991, and he 'made up for it' by giving me this disc. It took some time for it to grow on me, and I realized that this cd sounds a million times better when you play it very very loud. Im sure you will concur if youre an industrial fan. I dont know what I would have called this in 1986. Not Goth. Goth was like Bauhaus and the Cocteau Twins (whom I love dearly). I dont even think 'industrial' was a category then. So this is the Grandaddy of all that stuff. Clearly mercurial and original. My favorite songs are Addiction, Stairs and Flowers, 200 Years and Dig It. But they are all pretty cool. Im rating it 4 stars because I am not a true fan of the genre. If I were, I would give it 5 stars easilly. In addition to this, I would recommend Revolting Cocks. Not so much Ministry, though Stigmata is one of my favorite songs regardless of genre. Especially the live version with the 'f*ck chant' at the end. I just think that RevCo is a little more dynamic sonically and catchier than Ministry. But thats just my opinion. Aas for this cd, 'Groundbreaking' is an adjective I have no problem in handing out. Plus the names Cevin Key and Nivek Ogre are great.

At Their Best.......2004-09-10

This was actually the first CD (by any artist) I ever bought, and after twelve years of listening, it never gets old. It's the transition album between their early-eighties sound, sparse and unlovely, unmusical but driven, and the later sound which was more lush and profound. "Addiction" is the best song the Pups ever did, in my opinion; "Antagonism" is brilliantly disturbing; "God's Gift Maggot" is great for scaring your parents. "Love" and "Stairs and Flowers" break up the emotional tension a bit, before it becomes too unbearable. And "Deep Down Trauma Hounds" is inexpressibly superior to the version on "Cleanse Fold and Manipulate," in part because of the wonderful way they make a classic Bugs Bunny cartoon so terribly sinister. This is the best work the Pups ever did. If you're getting into them, this is the one you MUST have.

Psychedelic Doo-Wop.......2003-05-29

Not something one might expect from the doo-wop group that made "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", this wonderful little album shows that the Tokens had a lot more creativity than they were given credit for. The band cites "Pet Sounds" and "Sgt. Pepper" as influences on the sound, but "Intercourse" most closely resembles the bizarre Beach Boys release "Smiley Smile". There are a lot of short song fragments, weird sound effects and Mellotrons linking full fledged songs with a decidedly goofy, druggy sense of humor, such as "Bathroom Wall" and "Animal".
Yet, there are other surprises - the atypically hard-edged "You Loser, You Fool"; the haunting closer "Some People Sleep" and the exuberant vocal fanfare which opens the album, "It's Amazing to Be Alive". All this is drenched in the Tokens' stock in trade -- amazing multitracked vocal harmonies. Again, reminiscent of the Beach Boys in approach, but with that "New York" sound.

Unfortunately, the band's record label at that time, Warners Brothers, refused to release it -- probably because it was too far out for a group like the Tokens. It's very much of its time, but for people who really like late 60's psychedelic pop like the Beach Boys, the Beatles, the Hollies or the Association,"Intercourse" will indeed by a wonderful addition to their CD collection. The only drawback is that it's too short. At under a half hour, it sort of seems like a bit of a rip-off in the CD age. On the other hand, the new Oglio re-release evidently restores the original, beautiful LP cover painting. So, if you're nostalgic for a little spacy pop, pick this one up.

Intercourse.......2001-11-07

On this album the group comes up with a gem that is a cross between St. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and Pet Sounds. A re-issue recorded in 1969 it is more relevant today than ever. It is a work of art for all fans to enjoy.

A Lost Classic ... Superior to Beatles, Beach Boys, etc.......1998-11-28

If ever a lost musical classic exists ... it is Intercourse. While I am sure the title of the album is a substitution for the real name given how Warners records apparently screwed over the group, this is truly innovative. It has rich harmonies and very interesting lyrics. Lead singer Jay Siegel was never better and the group is extremely tight. If you love the very best of the later day Beatles or the retrospective Beach Boys, then you must get this CD. It captures the energy of those other groups and leads them into brand new territory. Classics shine regardless of time ... you have got to hear this CD.
