Disappointing return CD by the Rascals.......1999-09-18

For those of you familiar with mid 80's freestyle music, then you will remember Albert Caberra and Tony Moran (AKA "The Latin Rascals"). The Rascals were known for their remixes and edits of many top freestyle songs. But when Freestyle disappeared off the charts, the Rascals also broke up going their own separate ways.

But finally after years apart, the Latin Rascals have returned with "Mixmasters Vol. 1". Unfortunately, if you're a fan of the Rascals old tunes/remixes, you're going to be disappointed. The CD is more tuned for House music fans than for Freestyle/HiNRG fans. None of the tracks really appealed to me and I am a big dance music fan (Freestyle, Euro/HiNRG, House, Trance). Also, there just doesn't seem to be any "energy" behind the CD. With dance CD's, if the music gets you into a groove then it's doing it's job. But this CD starts slow and never really picks up steam.

Perhaps this is due to the lack of any MAJOR freestyle songs being produced these days. But there are still some (a lot of the Bay Area with M:G, Angelina, Jocelyn Enriquez and others like Lil Suzy, Collage, George Lamond, Cynthia) around. All in all, a very disappointing return by the Rascals. Perhaps a return to their Freestyle roots would be in order.
