You might not recognize N'Dambi's name, but if you own Erykah Badu's Live album, you've already heard her voice. Better known as Ms. Badu's favorite backup vocalist, N'Dambi is destined to become one of the brightest stars in today's burgeoning neo-soul movement. The Dallas-based artist's debut creation, Little Lost Girl Blues, was self-released under the auspices of N'Dambi's own Cheeky-I Productions. It's a well-crafted gem that deserves a much larger audience than its limited distribution has cultivated. The album opens with the spoken-word mood composition "Picture This," and from there journeys into explorations of scat-laced jazz ("The Meeting"), textured soul ("Can This Be Love"), and lushly retro R&B ("What's Wrong With You"). The album's signature piece is the achingly beautiful "Sunshine," which pairs the artist's straightforward vocals with a spare acoustic guitar line. N'Dambi's style is more substantial than Badu's, less mannered than Amel Larrieux's, and infinitely more complex than Angie Stone's. I was lucky enough to get my hands on this cd before the store ran out of copies. I loved her voice on Erykah Badu's live cd and knew that I'd probably enjoy N'Dambi's debut. The tone of her voice reminds me of Nancy Wilson - her voice is warm & her scatting throughout some songs is stellar & the musical production on the disc as a whole is excellent making it another great entry into the alternative r&b field.

My favorite tracks are: RAIN, SOUL FROM THE ABYSS, THE MEETING, PICTURE THIS, WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU, CAN THIS BE LOVE & THE SUNSHINE

If you're an Erykah Badu fan, you'll enjoy this disc too.

The beats on here is what I apreciate the most, she has like the best Jazy background music I have ever heard. Her voice is similar to "Kelis" but deeper. This is good chill back and relax music. She just needs to up her lyics a bit, and use her voice more, like the way she sung on "Crazy world" and "the sunshine".
Overall it's very much worth the money...Her beats are better than Jill Scott's and Erykah'.s

N'Dambi tears it down when she backs up Erykah and she really did a fantastic job with her debut CD. "Sunshine" is something that I can play over and over again as well as many others. She's unique and very talented. I hope a big record company picks her up one day. Like her name, the music is unique and deserves a bigger audience. I was hooked when I saw her do a tribute for Nina Simone in Philly at an IAAAM funciton. She had cats standing up and screaming. Get this if you don't have it already....

The foundation.......2007-02-16

This is a good Cd of what the first generation of hip hop fans were really listening to during the music's earliest appearance on record.

King Tim III by the Fatback Band was actually the first rap record (it beat out the better known Rappers Delight by about a month in late 1979). This is also one of the funkiest records of all time, musically based on the Godfather's "There Was a Time"

"The Adventures of Superrhymes" by Jimmy Spicer (who incidentally was the first rapper I ever saw perform-at a skating rink in Charleston in late 1979) is an underrated classic of syncopated storytelling, beating out Slick Rick by about five years. This is a funky narrative of Dracula and Aladdin and their trip to a nightclub. Very imaginative. Only problem is that this is a shorter version of the original. The same is true of the Funky 4+1 more's beloved classic "Rappin and Rockin The House."

"We Rap More Mellow" by the "Younger Generation" is actually the first record by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, containing most of the same lyrics as their better known "Superrappin." "Zulu Nation Throwdown" does not actually feature Afrika Bambaata on vocals (just his group the Cosmic Force), but its jivey, melodic chanting is the sort of thing that made this generation of hip hop appeal to teenagers of the era.

These records were greatly underpromoted at the time, since most people outside of Black east-coast teens dismissed this stuff as a passing fad, but at least you can see what most people were missing that should have been hits.

I remember listening to my big brother and his friends jammin to what was know as then, "music that wouldn't last very long"This cd has the original concrete jams of that time, and the beats are still bangin today. Any DJ would love to have this cd in their collection....enjoy. no doubt!!

Good bargain........2004-08-25

The performances are good--this is the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, after all--and you get 2 full CDs, with 2 selections from "Trial by Jury", 5 from "HMS Pinafore", 9 from "The Pirates of Penzance", 9 from "Iolanthe", 12 from "The Mikado", 6 from "The Yeomen of the Guard", and 13 from "The Gondoliers". The booklet is a bit skimpy, and only lists recording dates for the first CD (1929-1949). But the sound is good, and the music is great, and at this price it's a great "greatest hits" collection.

I've always loved !!!, and this single is no exception. Though a tad more flamboyant than their other works, this is another excellent piece on their part. A little out there, and quite artsy, !!! is a band that you generally need an aquired taste for-- much like the Blood Brothers, Xiu Xiu, Deerhoof, Q and not U, etc. Give it a chance. If you still don't like what you hear, what can I say, artsy and experimental compositions aren't for everyone, but personally I love their work.

Everything from the lyrics to the musicianship to the vocals are less than average in execution. Although, I do have this positive thing to say about !!!, they work well for those of us who suffer from insomnia. The music is so derivative, played-out, unoriginal that it puts one to sleep.

Shake it up!!!.......2004-06-16

I saw !!! live at the 2004 Coachella festival and was blown away. People were dancing frenetically to what was a mixture of disco and punk, and I could help but smile while listening. I had read the Pitchfork review on !!! and figured I'd get the single. I think that the song "Me and Giuliani Down by the School Yard" is worth it alone, a really banging track. I've got to get the full-length just released.

2003 was a great year for pale white boys to start (...) again. The Rapture. Hot Hot Heat. The Stills. Electric 6. After so many years . The title track is nine minutes of stacatto breakbeats, memphis horns, slap bass, and chiming guitars, with the riffs lifted straight out of old James Brown records. There's dissonant caterwauling and a few of those old Rolling Stones falsetto "woo-hoos" tossed in for good measure. And despite the fact it hangs together like one track, it's built up as at least 3 or 4 songs, like Radiohead's "Paranoid Android" or the Beatles "Happiness is a Warm Gun", moving through at distinct movements and melodies with three separate rythms and velocities that keep this from bogging down into one of Led Zeppelin's boring 9 minute opuses.

The question you're truly going to have to ask yourself is this:

Is one incredible 9 minute song worth $6?

The 2nd track, "Intensfier", is a remix of an older song, and is probably only included here to justify the cost. It's a repetive boring mundane piece of crap. Bear in mind, you will probably never listen to this track more than once or twice before you rip "Me and Giuliani" as an MP3 and tack it onto a "BEST OF 2003" mix with Franz Ferdinand and those unreleased Interpol songs that keep floating around KaZaA.

It doesn't matter if you're old school or new school. If you feel the true vibe of house (you know who you are), you WILL love this continuous mix cd by the doctor of house himself. It's a superb unique blend of underground tribal house music.
