A Slight Innacuracy.......2007-06-13
Hopefully, we can see that version on a future release. Maybe they could get "Little Ballerina Blue" on one while they're at it.
Still, some great stuff here.

Another Collection You Wonr Find Anywhere else.......2003-05-06
Continuing their unique practice of giving us both well known hits and impossible to find rarities, Eric presents Volume 2 of "Hard to Find Orchestral Instrumentals". This one is, in my opinion, even better than the first.
First off, the sound quality of this disk is ASTOUNDING. ERIC has gotten the various reissue departments to provide them with absolute first generation mono and stereo masters and this CD proves it. The aural quality is breathtaking. The fact that Orchestral music is so beautifully suited for true stereo playback is exhibited here, as a whopping 15 of the 20 tracks are True Stereo and sound magnificent.
There are, of course, the big soundtrack hits here, like 'The Day The Rains Came" "Rocky", "Ben Casey", "Theme from The Apartment", and " Nadias Theme". All top 30 and well remembered. However, for this 43 year old fan, it was the some of the lessor known tracks, in particulatr the 1963 Colpix low level charter "Theme From The Long Ships" that really makes this collection the gem that it is. Outstanding tracks include "Theme From The Sundowners" , "The Dark At The Top of The Stairs" and "I Will Follow Him" , all tracks that will suddenly sound familiar again after first listen.
Therein lies the BEST part of this collection. When you put this on your player, you will be treated to a nostalgic feast,
a time when the magic of Orchestral music still ruled the charts, and existed in all our homes. And you'll certainly remember most of these once you hear them, which is the fun part!!
There arent enough great things I can say about this collection AND its sister CD "Hard To Find pop Instrumentals- Part 2" I personally liked this volume better, but if you dont have either yet, give yourself a musical treat, and some REAL listening enjoyment and pick these up...
Its listening the way it used to be.

Two distinguished composers = Two distinctly unique scores.......2005-10-24
It is impossible to praise the score for "The Fly" without recognizing the brilliance of the film itself. Director David Cronenberg's crowning achievement is an ingenious reworking of what is essentially a B-movie concept; the film has been interpreted as an allegory for aging, cancer, and the AIDS virus, and functions as a tragic love story as well as a genuinely disturbing horror picture.
To score "The Fly", Cronenberg turned to his longtime collaborator Howard Shore, now of "The Lord of the Rings" fame. Shore's score, while meeting the obligatory requirements of horror film scoring with dissonant string harmonics and dissonant brass intervals, also includes an unusually strong dose of theme. Shore mentions in the liner notes that both he and Cronenberg felt the music should have an operatic quality to it, and from the very beginning of the "Main Title" it is clear that this is to be a tragic, operatic tale. Shore weaves two primary themes throughout his score: the first, an pattern of descending and ascending major seconds, represents Seth Brundle's frightening and disturbing transformation; the second features the outlining of a minor triad with an added sixth as its primary melodic material, while a descending countermelody plays above; this theme heightens the tragic state of Brundle and his love for Veronica that is inevitably doomed.
Three years after the release of "The Fly", Fox decided it was time for the inevitable sequel and released "The Fly II". Directed by Chris Walas, the man who brought the groundbreaking makeup effects to life in the 1986 Cronenberg film, "The Fly II" works as a film on autopilot, attempting to recycle the gruesomeness of the first film without first finding a story that makes sense. Perhaps the only thing worth salvaging from this travesty is Christopher Young's score. Taking a distinctly different approach than Shore, Young elects to concentrate more on scene-specific underscore; although there are themes present in the score, Young does not utilize them to the extent that Shore did in his score. This approach yields some impressive results, such as "Musca Domestica Metastasis", a brilliant example of twentieth century atonality. The score is not without tonality, however; "Come Fly With Me" is one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever heard in any medium, and the final track, "Dad", is a hauntingly beautiful piece featuring lovely cello playing.
As mentioned earlier, this is an exact re-release of the original 1986 and 1989 albums; there are no added tracks. Additionally, the somewhat arbitrary sequencing of the tracks (especially for "The Fly") has not been changed, leading to a somewhat frustrating experience for the listener attempting to recreate the film in their mind while listening to the music. If you own the original albums, there is little to gain from purchasing this set; if, like me, you were not old enough when these films were released to acquire the albums, and you are a diehard film score collector, it is well worth your money to invest in this set before these scores are once again out of print.

Trash.......2006-04-06
This is a very weak CD and the fact that it is CONTENT PROTECTED easily make this CD the worst in my collection. Sad.
How Come?.......2006-03-16
this is the weakest thing jd's done.......2006-03-09
1-1/2 stars -- Dumb, dry and trashy.......2006-02-28
But things aren't very inspiring with the known artists, like when J-Kwon and Daz try to save "10 Toes". And I wonder how long ago that song was made because in it, J-Kwon says he's 17, but that's how old he was when "Tipsy" came out. I don't know WHY JD decided to dig up has-beens KP & Envyi for the dismal "Put Cha Hands Up" (that title even sounds like it came from 1997), and as for "I Think They Like Me", if it's really Dem Franchize Boyz' song, how come they're the only ones in there that can't rap?
Most of the rappers on here are unknowns, but in the end they really aren't WORTH knowing because even JD is a better rapper than they are. Miss B's "Grown Man" suffers from a corny chorus, and T. Waters' "Throw'd Off" is just plain wack. And Cato's lazy "So What" made me say just that. But the album's nadir is the title track, performed by Young Capone, Midnight, Champagne Shawty and C-Dirt. Not only is there lackluster production, but the guys' rapping is so bad that they make Chingy look like Rakim.
The only saving grace to this whole compilation is Bun-B's verse on the otherwise terrible "Kodak Moment". Unlike that title, though, this album isn't anything to remember. If Jermaine ever makes a Young, Fly & Flashy Vol. 2, I'll be the first person not to get it.
Anthony Rupert
Young, Fly & Flashy , Vol 1 by Jermaine Dupri.......2006-01-18
Newcomers Young Capone and The Kid Slim fail to impress on tracks like "I'm Hot" and the tedious "10 Toes". With talented artists like Boyz N Da Hood and Slim Thug repping heavily for the South, competition is too fierce for Dupri's newest draft picks to deliver with no originality. Party joints like "Gotta Getcha", which is too short to be enjoyed, and KP and Envyi's "Put Cha Hands Up" are both mediocre attempts at club-friendly radio songs. "Put Cha Hands Up" just does not get the party started the same way the duo's 1997 hit "Shorty Swing My Way" did. And what could have been a hot ode to exotic dancers if it was just a little longer ("Gotta Getcha"), clocks in at less than three minutes.
But Southern enthusiasts don't fret; all is not lost on this LP and there are a few tracks worth checking for. "Kodak Moment" is authentic down-South rider music featuring Kavious, Pastor Troy and UGK's Bun B. The addictive "I Think They Like Me" (Remix) is made for stuntin' in your ride and worth a listen just to hear Da Brat's scene-stealing bars. ATL veteran Pastor Troy shines again on "Just to Fight", which is reminiscent of his classics "No More Play in GA" and "I Declare War." Another heater, "Throw'd Off" featuring T. Waters is a catchy party joint guaranteed to have heads nodding in the club although the Asian-influenced track sounds similar to the Terror Squad's 2004 hit "Lean Back".
Staying true to today's formulaic topics (bling, pimping and the streets) combined with a lack of originality, Young, Fly and Flashy Vol. 1 could not have been more appropriately-titled. The album does little to give a true glimpse of the potential these newcomers possess, nor does it highlight the musical creativity and hit-making ability Jermaine Dupri is known and celebrated for.

SON OF THE FLY!.......2006-11-15
The first was good, but the sequel was a stinker........2006-08-19
Dire.......2006-07-31
'The Fly 2', despite clearly having energy invested in it, is a disgrace. Everything shamefully pales in comparison to the original; direction, cinematography, set design, acting (of course), score. Basically every element that makes a film is downgraded about, say, eighteen levels with this sequel. There are a few scenes that work on their own (a horribly mutated dog painfully crawling to a bowl of mush moved me a good deal, surprisingly, and wasn't ineptly conceived like most the other scenes in the running time, also providing a parallel to a pretty great final scene (again out of the blue). Overall, though, this movie is a terrible mistake.
'The Fly', to me, is a masterpiece of modern cinema (though flawed, like most), and '2' should have never been greenlit. Nothing original comes about in the storyline or subtext, so it's essentially like watching a butchered, amateur version of a classic. That is, before the film succumbs to a pathetic attempt at a B-grade monster flick. I'm talking made-for-TV quality... and mediocre TV quality at that... You'd think, given the director of this sequel was the mad genius behind the special effects in Cronenberg's film, we'd at least bare witness to some impressive (if superficial) aesthetics. But, what I've learned so much in comparing these two films -- and what's truly a learning experience that, the more I think about it, the more important a realization it really is -- lighting and the creation of appropriate ambience is just as critical as anything in any given film. Seriously -- and I mean this -- the few moments where Goldblum, with his ever-growing bug eyes, gives his 'Insect Politics' speech and stares into the gleeming blue sky with a horrifying sense of wonder, are worth infinitely more than the near two hour runtime of this dead on arrival monster. In that particular scene -- despite Goldblum's mesmerizing performance and an unforgettable monologue -- the stunning fly transformation effects, combined with particular shades of breathtakingly dramatic color selections and a pulsating, melancholy twilight bring out of its audience powerful emotions few films can grasp. You can have the most talented, brilliant special effects crew in the world, but without the elements I mentioned, they just come across as cheap and, quite frankly -- in the case of 'The Fly 2' -- ghastfully bad.
Avoid it entirely. It's not even worth it as an act of sheer curiosity. Then again, the knowledge I personally derived described above is pretty invaluable -- though, granted, this is a guy who has only taken the most trivial of film classes. But, if there's 'any' reason to bring it into your home, that's gotta be it.
"It's no secret ambition bites the nails of success.".......2006-06-08
A man will fall,
From the sheer face of love,
Like a fly from a wall.
It's no secret at all."-The Fly, U2
There were three men who wanted to prove they each were the best swordsman in the land. The three were gathered in front of a large crowd to showcase their skill. On the first swordsman's turn, he saw a fly, took one swipe, and cut the fly in half. The second swordsman got up, saw another fly, made two swipes, and cut the fly in four quarters. The third swordsman got up, saw another fly, took one swipe, and the fly flew away leaving the third swordsman with a big smile on his face. Everyone said, "Why are you smiling? The fly is still alive." The swordsman said, "Yes, but he'll never be able to have children."
I wish somebody had stopped the first fly from having any children, then none of us would have been subjected to this movie's sequel.
It's not bad, which is why I gave it three stars, but it's just inferior, like 98% of most sequels.
Here was Eric Stoltz before every role he played in was sleazy in some way (Murder of Crows, The Butterfly Effect, The Honeymooners). I'm not too crazy about him or Daphne Zuniga. I didn't even like her in Melrose Place...but anyway.
Okay for a late night thrill, I guess.
