About the Artist
Nicky Mints was born Nicholas Reid on October 16th 1980 in Yokosuka, Japan along with his twin brother Chris. His father, John Reid, an Army Officer, was stationed in Japan with the United States Navy at the time and there after would move the family to Arizona and Virginia before landing in Missouri, where the three children, the twins plus their older sister Hilary, were raised. Mints began writing during his middle school years as a way to pass time during math and science classes, however it wasnt until High school that he considered himself an MC. Even so, writing verses back and forth with classmates and performing homecoming skits were the extent of his development as an artist until his freshman year of college. In November of 1999 Mints hit the studio for the first time and laced what would become "Microphone Prone," using beats off Napsters extensive database as well as the B-side instrumentals off some Ice Cube singles. While this effort was widely regarded as unsuccessful on the commercial level it did serve to cultivate a love for the production side of Hip-Hop in addition to his already established penchant for the written word. Later demos would follow, most notably First Fridays, released in December of 2003. Nicky Mints graduated from Conception Seminary College with a Liberal Arts degree with an emphasis in Theology and Philosophy in May of 2003. While he enjoyed his four years studying for the priesthood Mints new in his heart of hearts that music was his driving force. After graduation he moved into an apartment with his twin brother in Fort Walton Beach Florida and started to work on his First Fridays demo. Following the six-month stint in Florida, where his brother was stationed with the Air Force, he made the decision to go all into the Game and moved to the capital nouveau of Hip Hop, Atlanta, GA. It will be here, beginning in January of 2004, that The Famous Last Words EP would be written, produced and promoted. With these 6 tracks Nicky Mints is setting the stage for his introduction to Atlantas music scene. Like so many who call Atlanta home he moved here without knowing anyone, however as we will all come to find, with a strong work ethic and the Souths renown hospitality as a back drop, a community of believers is always just an EP away.
