About the Artist
Darrell "D-Funk" Looney began playing the violin at the age of nine. He was classically instructed in the Suzuki violin method (first introduced to the United States by Ms. Ann Dodge). In High School and College, his interests turned to R&B and Jazz, focusing primarily on keyboards and synthesizers. Now, he has utilized all of his experience to return to his roots, performing on both the keyboards as well as the violin, expressing a new feel to the genre of violinists as leaders of contemporary bands.

3 out of 5 stars Funk "Preserver", Floats Well!!.......2001-12-31

"DFunk and the Phatfunk Klique, do a pretty good job of bringing
back a "70's" "Funk" vibe! However, in "DFUNK" being the primary focus of this CD, I wanted to hear more "VIOLIN"! I wanted to hear "Mr. DFunk" stretch himself further. Even though we all have been graced with great violinists such as
'Jean-Luc Ponty', Noel Pointer and Stephan Grappelli, we still don't hear much violin. "DFunk" has the potential to break new ground on his instrument by comming to the forefront of popular music, and yes, even Hip-Hop!
The album seems to have a smooth sound that features, un-
selfishly, the talents of the "Phatfunk Klique". The bass player lays down distinctive lines without overpowering the melodies. And the vocalists' 'airy' and 'smooth' tones enhance
this albums 'aura'! My only 'crtique' is that something was
missing or left out. That 'something' I hope will appear on
"DFunk's" next "CD"!

4 out of 5 stars Phat Vox, Keyboards, and violin........2001-11-02

Review: Darrell "DFunk" Looney's 7 selection collection of his original compositions highlight the feel of excitement in PANDEMIC LOVE! It is an adventure in funk sound, and Looney does it well. His violin performances are excellent.

Selections include "Pandemic Love," "Take A Chance," "Jazzy Jam," and "A Little Bit More," among others. Each is different and lively! If you like funk, you will enjoy this collection! The artists perform well and each song is different. PANDEMIC LOVE is a winner in the funk jazz genre!

3 out of 5 stars Unpolished talent, great potential.......2001-08-11

DFunk and the Phatfunk Clique is a Jazz group with a lot of potential, but as for their CD titled "Pandemic Love," it contains a lot of repetitive tracks that underwhelms the listener. An example of this is the track "Take A Chance," a ten minute piece that consists of a few beats that's looped over and over, which is evident in Amazon.com's RealAudio sample.

I believe this group has a lot of potential, but it needs is someone who is experienced in writing and composing music. Someone like Branford Marselis or Regina Carter might just be the thing that DFunk and his clique need to ascend to the next level.
