It's fitting that the Kid Rock revival got started when the Beastie Boys featured him in their Grand Royal magazine--and not because the kid from Detroit shares their skin tone. Rock has often been compared with the early Beasties--the boys of "Fight for Your Right to Party" and "Brass Monkey," the boys no one ever thought would grow up. With lines like "I ain't straight outta Compton, I'm straight out the trailer" and "I started an escort service--for all the right reasons," it's obvious that Kid Rock doesn't aim to follow suit. But that's no hindrance to Devil--backed by the funky metal band Twisted Brown Trucker and special guests like blues vets Robert Bradley and Thronetta Davis, Rock is hosting one hell of an interesting party. Ultimately, Rock's party is great, schlocky fun, equal parts old Beasties and Sebastian Bach--making Devil a guilty pleasure, the Starship Troopers of hip-hop. --Randy SilverCustomer Reviews:
A Modern Detroit Rock Classic.......2007-07-12
When listening to this album it's key to remember the source and time that it came out. It was released right around the time of the Limp Bizkit era and the rap / rock fusion sound is what we were listening to at the time. This combined with the fact that Kid was originally a Detroit rapper should alone explain the overall sound of the album. If it doesn't then you should consider the source...
It was released by a Detroit artist for a Detroit audience. You're talking about the town where to this day Bob Seger has outsold the Beatles (and with good reason, if you ask me). The music scene in Detroit has always been a little off kilter to the rest of the country, so if you're buying the album specifically for "Only God Knows Why" then you'll be disappointed and should buy the single instead.
You should buy this album if you're looking for a specific sound that you won't hear duplicated anywhere else, before or since.

Great CD!.......2005-10-02
Anyway, let me say this: I have not heard the entirety of this CD. I have heard some of "Devil Without a Cause", and all of "Cowboy", "Only God Knows Why", & "Bawitdaba", so my review will be based on the quality of these four songs.
I'm glad I found the Kid Rock CD with "Only God Knows Why", because it is the song that got me interested in Kid Rock (before I heard it, I had never even heard of him), and it, to this day, is EPIC. It may not be a punk rock song like most of his greats are, but its lyrics are AWESOME!
"Bawitdaba" is a great song, giving a casual, fun little song as a break from the rest of the CD. I like what he says about the IRS ^_^ lol.
Frankly, though, I don't know what the big deal about "Cowboy" is. Sure, it's a good song, but it is no where near as good as the songs on "Cocky", which is a great CD of his with around one hit.
I don't really like "Devil Without a Cause". That's all I have to say. Try harder, Kid!
All in all, this CD is a great buy!
ROCK DONE RIGHT.......2005-02-28
BAWITDABA- 5/5- ITS THE KID'S TRADEMARK SONG. WHO HASN'T HEARD OF IT. METAL CLASSIC
COWBOY-5/5- AGAIN A TRADEMARK SONG. THIS IS ALMOST LIKE SOUTHERN METAL. I KNOW SOUTHERN METAL SOUNDS WIERD, BUT THIS SONG ROCKS.
DWAC-5/5 EXACTLY WHAT THE KID IS. THE ENDING IS AWESOME. "YOU LIKE TO PARTY ROCK THE PARTY" "WE LIKE TO PARTY ROCK THE PARTY." IN THE SONG HE SAYS HE'S GOING PLATINUM AND HE DID. 11 TIMES!!!! ON THIS ONE RECORD NONE THE LESS.
i COULD GO ON AND DESCRIBE EVERY SONG ON THE ALBUM BUT TO SAVE ME AND YOU SOME TIME ALL THE SONGS ROCK GET THIS ALBUM. AND WHO ELSE THINKS ITS STRANGE THAT ONE ALBUM SELLS 11 MILLION COPIES BUT THE REST DON'T EVEN COME CLOSE TO SELLING AS MANY.
Awesome, just plain awesome.......2004-06-08

step's first rock concert.......2004-02-17
saw him valentine's night in raleigh, nc.......been rockin' around the house since...he is a true talent with energy that not only lasted throughout the entire show, but seemed to feed on itself. the man is a true rocker and his concert is a must see in your lifetime....i was shocked and am now obsessed with his music
Good, but stillneeded better editing........2002-11-03
Bawitdaba-Great chanting chorus and great intro which is Kid Rock's most famous line "My Name Is Kid Rock!" the song still has a message in which it glorifies topless dancers and drugged-out people and other bad messages with the phrase "Get in the pit and try ro love someone"
Cowboy-A great song with a touch of that soul and motown feeling. I would like to get rid of a belief the line in the chorus does not say "I can smell a pimp from a mile away" instead it says "I can smell a pig from a mile away" the song still makes remarks about pimping and women's breasts.
Devil Without A Cause- So much editing the song has no bad message it's annoying when a kid comes in to sing but it's cool when he yells "You like 2 party rock the party!"
I Am The Bullgod-Great chorus
Roving Gangster-good song with one remark about a topless dancer
Waisting Time-Best song on album but in one part he combines a curse word with an okay word "I left my girlfriend 'cause I don't need that hoooooold up wait a minute"
Welcome 2 The Party-song with worst lyrics with many sexual remarks and profanity that has seemed to have been able to not get censcored
Somebody's Gotta Feel This-No censorship, good beat
Fist Of Rage-okay I Guess
Only God Knows Why-beautiful song with the word f-ck somehow not getting censored
Where You At Rock-Great beat
So that is what the songs are like to children and people who want to know what there buying. I am a thirteen year old and my mom hasn't listened to the album yet and doesn't know about this unclean-clean version. Hope she doesn't find out! Hehehehe.........................
