About the Artist
Hip-Hop veteran, hard-edged lyricist, super producer, Al-C, ascends now to even greater heights in '99. He has gained high recognition in the Northwest Hip-Hop scene where he has won acclaim to titles such as the "Super-Producer" for his tight track, Roll With The Punches and "Best Solo M.C." for his cut, How Could a Ruff Neck in the DJ Sound Wars in 1992 as well as selling over 2500 copies alone in the Portland market for his freshmen release "AL SEE THE WHOLE SH!T" in 1997.

Al-C entered the world of hip-hop as a young boy in the south developing his stage presence by entering dance contests. Indigenous to Montgomery, Alabama, Al-C combines a southern soulful energy with a West Coast street vibe, in his own EvreDark Production Studio, based in Portland, Oregon. Feeling his vision, Al-C incorporates song writing, producing, and designing graphics into a full time career. Al-C supplies explosive hard-cuttin' beats to several Portland, Seattle, Atlanta, Detroit, and Alabama rappers. When he's not in the studio, Al-C is out campaigin' his passion, his own indie label; A Black Clan Records.

Al-C takes his business seriously!!! Overcoming obstacles with increased determination, Al-C carries A Black Clan Records into the new millennium keeping it real, as a true playa would. '99 promises to elevate Al-C, with his sophomore project, "GO IN BROKE", an EP released in June '99, that features DUCK, DJ CHILL, MITT NITTY, and KYM. The eight track EP is highly anticipated by fans, fellow-rappers, and radio DJ's alike. The first single, "FO GET DAT," is already accompanied with an innovative music video, puttin' Portland on the map. Currently, an earlier version of first single was released in '98 on a nationally distributed compilation CD- "HELL IN THE ATL" featuring artists Who You Callin' Country, Quarter and , and Strick 9 on Tandem Entertainment, distributed by Ichiban Records and has been seen on "Insomnia TV" Video show all over Canada.

His second release, GO IN BROKE, the title cut, shows brothers Al-C and DUCK breakin' into the "Rap Industry National Bank"; this allegorically portrays their perspective on the rap side of the music industry. Some lyricists exhaust themselves "fakin' jacks", claimin' they keepin' it real, experiencing treacherous delusions of stardom. Al-C and Duck are in the industry to be heard, not to get rich quick or to taste a minute of fame; as Duck's lyrics in Go In Broke explains: "I don't care sh!t about you no more than a rusty rats azz, and yo rusty fast cash, if you ain't up in this mutha f*$#@ to last." While Al-C declares: " I'm in this deal for the feel fa real." Al-C teaches his brothas "ya betta stack first nigga, and talk shit later...It's like an f%ckin' avalanche the way we comin' down on this paper." Keepin' his feet on the ground, Al-C contends the game.

Other cuts off the EP also come with pro-found metaphoric phrases, kickin' knowledge, while weaving in and out of those head-bobbin' deep phunk base lines. Al-C describes A Black Clan's versatility, "I'm trying to have every style of west coast phunk and hip-hop as well as some east coast joints, were it all started...I'm trying to cover all bases and styles-the real hip-hop." Appealing to all the regions of rap, A Black Clan executes its destiny of bringin' all true playas together.

A Black Clan's roster, is laden with Al-C's producing perfection where you can look forward to his wide range of musical talent from: DUCK- "DUCK TAPE YOUR ENEMY," (The South like never before) CEE-1 -"DON'T GET GREEDY" (true southern-style bootie shake with a West Coast flava), MIZZERY - "THE COMING" (Portland's premier female rap artist), and of coarse Al-C's third project a movie, "Amongst Men," relish cut after cut.

5 out of 5 stars Great set of wartime rarities.......2003-05-14

Spike Jones was the king of the novelty song performers, with hits like "Der Fuehrer's Face" and the parody version of "Sheik of Araby" becoming huge hits during World War II. This is a swell 3-CD set, gathering a full eighty-one of Jones' best tracks from his 1940s heyday, drawn from an extensive archive of radio broadcasts made for the Standard Transcription service. The tightness of his City Slickers band is amply demonstrated in these manic, kookily orchestrated performances. Toots, squonks, blatts and bleats whiz by at lightning speed, as one daffy song after another will delight devoted fans. Amazingly, Jones had the unusual, almost unique ability to perform a repertoire almost entirely made up of comedic material, and yet still be quite listenable and engaging. His jazz chops were hardly in question, and from time to time Jones would dash off a non-novelty ballad or two, just to give the rubes something to think about. Of course, just as often he would perform a song that *sounded* like a straight ballad, but would turn out to be another goof. (One great example of this is the sultry "Serenade To A Jerk," sung in slinky, burlesque tones by Myrtle Horwin.) This collection may seem a little overwhelming, but like his studio recordings, these radio performances have a certain brilliance and joie de vivre about them that will leave you enchanted. Definitely worth checking out!

This collection has remastered material from the large stack of Standard Transcription discs from the early 1940's. There are many songs not recorded on RCA, many on the theme of wartime ("48 Reasons Why"), and the quality is excellent. The packaging is threadbare but this is an essential CD package for true music lovers.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Hamlet sound track - Patrick Doyle.......2006-03-10

I spent a lot of time trying to get hold of this CD but I must say I am mildly disappointed. I thought Patrick Doyle's music for Branagh's Henry V was brilliant and that was why I was determined to obtain this sound track as well. Henry V is not Hamlet in terms of theme and plot but I think the music here tends to be too low key and lacking in drive, unlike Henry V. It is still very good in places and clearly the work of an excellent composer, but not quite up to Doyle's previous standard.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful masterpiece!!.......2002-02-22

Patrick Doyle has truly composed an awesome piece of work. The score is so well done that you can feel the emotion coming through the music alone. This is by far my favorite soundtrack and I listen to it quite often.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic collaborations.......2001-06-12

Doyle fans are aware that he collaborates regularly with actor/director, Kenneth Brannagh. With the Hamlet score, he again writes powerful complementary music which also stands alone as worthy to be performed in concert. I would be interested to hear lengthier tracks such as accompanied the lengthy, but indeed beautiful and patient, movie. (The only mistake was Billy Crystal in the movie. I thought Robin Williams did fine work.) Although, I confess, this is my least listened to in my soundtrack collection, I do enjoy it, and believe it deserves accolades.

5 out of 5 stars Patrick Doyle's finest score.......2000-06-26

This is certainly one of my top 3 Patrick Doyle scores and a towering achievement. The score unfolds like a great romantic symphony encompassing several moods from serenity and inner peace ("In Pace"), to violence and lush gothic undertones ("The Ghost", "Now, could I drink hot blood"), and a finaly sense of joyous celebration ("Fanfare", "What Players are they?"). After listening constantly to Mr. Doyle's scores for "Henry V", "Much ado about nothing" and "Frankenstein", I thought he could never top such achievements and somehow he did: "Hamlet" is a masterpiece of thematic inventiveness and dramatic power. The playing is wonderful and the engineering is very clear, taking full advantage of Air Lyndhurst's glorious acoustics. If you are a fan of british classical music or a Shakespeare fan (or even better, a fan of Patrick Doyle), don't pass up this CD. Great film music. No: great music. Period!

4 out of 5 stars Jerry gone wild! (from a 15 year old Jerry fan!).......2004-03-11

Well, the first thing I have to say is, I'm a HUGE Jerry Goldsmith fan. After hearing the Gremlin's soundtrack, I got hooked on Jerry's scores. Anyways to the Looney Tunes review...

"Looney Tunes: Back in Action" is only my third Jerry soundtrack. (Others include "Star Trek: Nemesis" and "Damien: Omen II"). I have heard other Jerry scores, but I think that the "Tunes" soundtrack is Jerry's most high-energetic score in a long time. From the electric guitar to the very enjoyable western theme in "The Bad Guys" and "Car Trouble", I'm sure that any Jerry or Looney Tunes fan will enjoy this soundtrack.

Jerry uses famous Looney Tunes themes from Carl Stalling, Cliff Friend and Dave Franklin (Track 1,near the end of 10 and track 21). Along with Jerry's own nifty themes.

I play the guitar, my guitar teacher asked me to bring in the soundtrack. He listened to my two most favorite tracks (8 and 9)and wrote the chords for the guitar used in the background for the western theme. Anyways, in "Out of the Bag" Jerry's theme for "Gremlins" makes a cameo at the end of the track. In "Dead Duck Walking" Jerry uses his "Back in Action" theme (in track 2 used with the electric guitar)in full reprise in a more sarcastic energetic way. At the end of the track is a little scary (not really but...yeah...) surprise. In the movie, this cue was used when the batmobile hit the Warner Bros water tower and ...

All I have to say is, this is one neat soundtrack. Though, I wish Verse put more on it! And, due to late editing of the film, Jerry couldn't finish the rest of his Looney Tunes score, so John Debney scored 16 minutes for the rest of the film.

Fav tracks: 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10 and finally 13 LOL!

4 out of 5 stars Great stuff, but incomplete........2004-02-22

Now that I just love this movie I have to go out and buy all of the merchandise right away. What can I say? I'm a sucker. But when the score is done by none other than the legendary Jerry Goldsmith how could any serious soundtrack collector refuse?

This is Goldsmith's tenth collaboration with director Joe Dante (they've done just about everything together) and while it's not the strongest score for a Joe Dante movie it's definitely a whole load of fun. Gracefully blending Carl Stalling's signature Looney Tunes music with light-hearted cues of various natures (and even including a surprise cameo by the awesome Gremlins theme in track 5 'Out of the Bag') the whole album makes for pleasant if shallow listening.

But there are only 37 minutes worth of music on this CD. Why? Because of Jerry Goldsmith's hectic work schedule he had to leave the scoring sessions two weeks early and John Debney stepped in to replace him with some of his own material to fill the rest of the movie (tho I personally think Bruce Broughton would have been a wiser choice). None of Debney's music is featured on this CD.

Curiously (much like his Total Recall CD) there is some kind of jingle stuck on the end of the last track. I don't know what it is but it's a cute bonus.

For all Goldsmith and Looney Tunes fans. It's just a shame it isn't longer.

4 out of 5 stars Funny faces and crazy impressions.......2003-12-09

This Goldsmith score is the liveliest in years. This moment, it tries to sit down and look cool, but seconds later it looses all restraints and flings through the room. It has an incredible vigour and vivaciousness to it. Still, I'm afraid this score is not for everyone. While I'm loving it, others will surely find it ragged and haphazard.

And sure enough, even though the length of the score is below average, it will wear you down with its absolutely crazy and unusual orchestrations. While still clearly 'cartoonish', Goldsmith's percussion and interwoven use of the electric guitar takes Loony Tunes music one step closer to adulthood. But then: a Jim Carry / Mike Myers sort of adulthood, with an array of funny faces and goofed up impressions.

Because the true appeal of this record is not the traditional one of filmscores - themes, build-ups and great narrative - rather it is the library of nods and winks of which it consist.

The obvious few classic Looney Tunes themes aside, I could discern references to Ray Evans' & Jay Livinston's "Bonanza", Monty Norman's "James Bond", Henry Mancini's "Pink Panther", Camille Saint-Saëns' "Carnaval des Animaux" and "Danse Macabre", Goldsmith's own "Gremlins" and...

I am certain there's an entire other list of titles that I'm missing. Get this record and try to single them out for yourself. If you go out and buy this, you will get yourself one of the busiest, craziest and in that sense most masterful Goldsmith records in years.

This one gets four stars
