Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Wu-Chronicles compiles 14 tracks of previously released Wu-tinged madness, along with a pair of new tracks. Most of these feature Wu family members as guests on tracks from the Notorious B.I.G. ("The What," featuring Method Man), Mobb Deep ("Right Back at You," featuring Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, and Big Noyd), and Tha Alkaholiks ("Hip Hop Drunkies," featuring Ol' Dirty Bastard). There are also killer cuts by Wu stalwarts such as Genius/GZA, Raekwon, RZA, and Inspectah Deck. Though some hardcore fans may deem this release redundant because most of these tracks have seen the light of wax before, they will still want to own it for the convenience factor, the ultra-cool artwork, and those two new offerings: "Latunza Hit," by the Wu-Syndicate, is an infectious downtempo track infused with a solid bass groove and misty-mountaintop atmosphere, while "'96 Recreation (Demo)" features longtime Wu cohort Cappadonna along with RZA and Ol' Dirty Bastard, all three dropping heavy verses over an eerie, rumbling beat. --Spencer Abbott

5 out of 5 stars When hip hop was about beats & rhymes!.......2003-07-14

Well, all the songs are onpoint thats why i gave 5 starts but i have and own every single song here... My favorites ? Genious "cold world" and mobb deep's "right back at you" the best two tracks there but the rest is tight as well! Worth your money ? yes, if you haven't heard early wu and want to get schooled buy it but if your hooked on that ludacris trash along with ja rule, nelly, gay z,fabulos,bowow...Then, don't even bother ! This is strictly for long time fans or who ever feel true hip hop... Don't foget where it came from, son !!!

4 out of 5 stars THE FIRST CHAPTER.......2001-10-16

BASICALLY, IF YOU A WU TANG FAN, YOU SHOULD HAVE THIS ALBUM. SOME PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS ALBUM BECAUSE IT HAS LOTS OF ALREADY RELEASED MATERIAL. BUT IF YOU CAN READ, YOU'D KNOW THAT THE WORD CHRONICLES MEANS A HISTORICAL RECORD OF EVENTS, AND THAT'S JUST WHAT THIS ALBUM IS. IS A LOOK BACK AT WU TANG JOINTS AND WU TANG COLABOS BETWEEN THE YEAR 93-96. JOINTS LIKE "HIP HOP DRUNKIES" BY THE LIKS(COP THEIR NEW ALBUM) FEATURING OL' DIRTY BASTARD AND "RZA'S MIX OF "COLD WORLD" BY THE GZA FEATURING D' ANGELO, ARE TRACKS NO WU FAN SHOULD BE WITHOUT. SHYHEIM'S "YOUNG GODZ" IS A HOT TRACK THAT SOME MIGHT NOT BE FAMILIAR WITH. SO FOR THESE 3 SONGS ALONE, THE ALBUM IS WORTH GETTING. (COP SHYHEIM'S AKA THE RUGGED CHILD, THE LOST GENERATION AND MANCHILD IF YOU DON'T HAVE THEM ALREADY.) ALL THE SONGS ARE TIGHT. YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPPOINTED.

5 out of 5 stars Nice blend of classic cuts.......2001-08-14

This album is often compared to "Rza's Greatest Hits" but this one has more classic tracks. If you are a true wu head then you might want to pick this up. I won't elaborate on the album too much because its material comes from other pervious Wu albums.

3 out of 5 stars 3.5 star follow up for Chapter II of the Wu-Chronicles.......2006-08-02

For starters, this ain't a bad album, just there is so much more Wu-Material from their 2nd go around that could have and should have been on here but wasn't. Just like the Swarm series, Vol. 1 is better than Vol. 2. Unlike the 1st Chronicles, there aren't alot of joints from the solo Wu albums, and not even all the members of teh Wu are on here (no Ghostface, Raekwon, or Cappadonna). You still get some Wu-affiliates (Sunz of Man, Shyheim, Gravediggaz) but also a lot of others on here. With 17 songs, 5 are new so it's not really Chronicles. Of the 17, 2 are classics, 2 are near classics, 3 I skip, 4 or 5 are ok, the other 6 or so are good not great (other than one of them). For Wu fans it's still a ncie album to have just should have been better.

#1 - 7.5 (gangstarr, inspectah deck)
#2 - 9 (prodigal sun, shyheim, arson)
#3 - 10 (CLASSIC!! -- GZA, hell razah, timbo king -- from GZA's "Beneath the Surface")
#4 - 6 (buddah monk, ol' dirty (R.I.P.), drunken dragon)
#5 - 8.5(Shyheim)
#6 - 7 (king just, method man, sic)
#7 - 9.5 (RZA & method Man -- from RZA's "Bobby Digital")
#8 - 10 (CLASSIC!! -- U-God, Leatha Face, inspectah Deck, Method Man -- off U-God's "Golden Arms Redemption")
#9 - 8 (gravediggaz)
#10 - 8.5 (U-God & leatha face)
#11 - 3 (killah priest & Jon spencer)
#12 - 7 (Killah Priest)
#13 - 4.5 (D'Angelo, Redman, method man)
#14 - 4 (bounty killer & Masta Killa)
#15 - 9.5 (Spice 1 & Method Man -- off Spice's "Amerikkaz Nightmare")
#16 - 8 (GZA & Masta Killa freestyle)
#17 - 7.5 (Black Knights)

1 out of 5 stars Let down.......2003-07-14

I have to admit that i was very surprise at how let down and bored i was while listining to this terrible disc ! I'll explain why in each song...
1. above the clouds- As a fan of both Guru and inspectah deck, i was quite surprise at how boring and weak this track sounds! The beat is off, hook awfull, and lirycs ? disapointing as hell !
2. re-up- two road featuring shyheim- again a song with the beat tottaly off and the lirycs are just plain awful i mean what was shyheim smoking while recording this song ? Terrible & unfocused
3-hip hop fury- mmm, i mean... I realy can't stand this track! Just mad weak !
4-cot's like come on thru-zzzzz BORING !!!!Not even worth mention, just terrible and whats up with all the weak beats on this disc ? Wtf !
5- in trouble- I don't know man, shyheim realy let me down on this disc and i thought he could do better but quess not! Again disapointing & weak beats !
6- three amigos ( if it's on)- plain boring with awful beats & horrible lirycs!!
7- n.y.c. everything- (sigh), what an waste of talented on this song! Rza sounds like he is giving all away for the mainstream! Beats-weak,lirycs-terrible and every thing else ? Just a big let down!
8-rumble- What a joke! Im not even going to bother with this bullcrap !
9- dangerous minds- all i will say about this particuler track like all the other ones ? Just a waste of talent to make money! trying to make radiofriendly songs!! Heh!
10-to the rescue- like the rest of the songs weak beats and rhymes are terrible!
As you see i didn't finish because i feel it would be a big waste of time !Don't worrie i was mad at the wu after this disapointment but i still got love for them !

3 out of 5 stars no cluez up in this joint.......2003-04-03

first of all, all the joints on this album are on other albums for the most part. If you are a true connaisseur, you'd already have all these songs. Most are just wu -guest spots on other cats joints. Purely $ making album, but if you dont have any of these joints on wax, this here is a decent compilation.
