5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Singer.......2007-07-21

Surely Darlene Koldenhoven has one of the most beautiful female voices in the world. The song selections, the accompanying music and the quality of recording are supurb.

5 out of 5 stars Calming beauty.......2007-05-28

Infinite Voice is one of my favorite albums to pop into the player after a long and difficult day at work. Its soothing lightly classical pieces with Koldenhoven's angelic vocals do much to sooth an agitated spirit and sing peace to the soul. Wonderful Darlene! We need more like this.

4 out of 5 stars A beautiful voice.......2007-04-23

A classically trained vocalist with a Master's Degree in music from the Chicago Conservatory College, the golden voiced Darlene Koldenhoven has participated in a number of high profile pop culture products. In the 1980's she appeared on jazz composer Clare Fisher's Brazilian jazz vocal project, Freefall, which was awarded a Grammy in 1986 for Best Jazz Vocal Performance by a Group. In the 90's she appeared in and served as choir director for both Sister Act films, and in 1994 sung with Yanni Live at the Acropolis, a concert film reportedly seen by nearly 500 million people worldwide. She has also sung on recordings with Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Pink Floyd, Rod Stewart, David Byrne, and Ramsey Lewis, among others, and has authored a set of musical instruction books and CDs entitled Train Your Voice.

In the late 90's Koldenhoven began writing and producing her own solo recordings, including the adult contemporary Keys to the World, a gospel album called Free to Serve, and the Christmas album Heavenly Peace. This year she's back with an all new recording, entitled Infinite Voice, a collection of classically inspired compositions and new age arrangements of classics. Ms Koldenhoven's 5-ocatve voice is the only one featured on this recording, in some places layered to give a choral effect. Most of the instrumentation is synthetic, though several songs include acoustic instrumental performances from guitar, English Horn, oboe, flue, didgeridoo, and percussion.

Infinite Voice is a delicate and beautiful recording that will appeal to fans of light classical vocals from the voices of equally talented singers such as Filippa Giordano, Hayley Westerna, or Sissel.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars beautiful mellow jazz.......2007-01-13

I love jazz, but tend to prefer melodic ballads or renditions of old standards. This CD easily met both those criteria and far surpassed my expectations. Each song is a winner. I've only had this CD a couple of weeks, but it's already one of my favorites.

5 out of 5 stars Tender Standards.......2001-06-11

Houston Person can wail with the best of them, but he also may be the best tenor saxophonist since Ben Webster when it comes to presenting soulful, romantic ballads. In just under an hour, he works his magic on nine standards, including "But Beautiful," "Laura," "Time After Time," "Mean to Me" and the title tune. Richard Wyands, Ray Drummond and Kenny Washington provide the rhythm on piano, bass and drums. Another late-night listen from High Note Records!

5 out of 5 stars Sexy Sax.......1999-04-16

Even though I normally prefer more uptempo stuff, "My Romance" is one of the best jazz albums I've bought in recent years. Every cut is a winner.

5 out of 5 stars Great late night music.......1998-12-01

If you like the standard American song book, and the ballad then Houston Person's CD, My Romance will stay in your CD player a long time. This is a CD the late nite jazz radio stations will be playing for some time.

Houston Person has been on the scene for a long time, ebracing both jazz and R&B. Houston Person plays the tenor with lots of soul, sparing notes when needed and giving us lots of those mellow notes when they are needed. His back up piano, Richard Wands, is an acomplished supportive player, filling in nicely.

My only critisism is that the CD is about as long as an old LP. There are nine songs, I wish there were at least twelve. Maybe Houston is saving up for another CD of these beautiful ballads.

      2 out of 5 stars Poor recording........2000-11-21

What? I thought this would rule! But unfortunatley, it doesn't. It's a poor CD, with some poor material recorded on it. Why? Because it's MELLOW. If you're loooking for hot, firey soul jazz, look elsewhere, check out Melvin Sparks' Legends of Acid Jazz CD, or Rusty Bryant's, but please, do not start with this one.

I agree, 'The Son of Man', 'The Houston Express' and 'Give More Power To The People (For God's Sake)' rule, no two ways about that. But the rest? FILLERS! Seriously, there are better purchases to spend your money on.

        5 out of 5 stars Great Live Document Of Journey's Biggest-Selling Tour.......2007-07-07

LIVE IN HOUSTON 1981: THE ESCAPE TOUR is a wonderful document of a single concert on Journey's tour in support of their 1981 album ESCAPE, and it's great to have the concert available on CD, as the album and its ensuing tour were Journey's best sellers both in terms of album sales and concert tickets. The previously-recorded live album, CAPTURED, featured Gregg Rolie, whereas this one features Jonathan Cain on keyboards. It has been said that the band's manager, Herbie Herbert, didn't really like Cain, but that's irrelevant, as Cain brought more of a pop feel to the band. This is a CD that anyone who's even remotely interested in Journey should own.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic! Awesome! Out Of This World.......2007-01-04

Journey has always been my very favorite of all the American rock bands. I've traced them right from the beginning because of being a Santana fan. Neil Shon and Greg Rollie started something that was very addictive. When Steve Perry joined the band, that was it. No singer can or could ever replace Steve Perry. Without SP, Journey isn't Journey. This live set just blew me away and the DVD that came with it is out of this world. It's too bad that Journey seems to be at the end of their journey. I highly recommend this set to any Journey fan even if you already have a live Journey CD, this is by far the best of all of them. Don't do what I did though. Order the set that has both the CD and DVD. It is well worth the money.

        4 out of 5 stars Good Show.......2006-11-09

Great show!. I saw them on tour for this Album and this CD captures this!. Journey is a little harder in concert then the Albums.

5 out of 5 stars A great Live album from Jorney.......2006-07-18

Journey were amongst my favorite rock bands along with Boston.this live collection is almost a complete greatest hits collection as it contains all their hits like Open arms.Dont Listen to "FED UP",this collection is great so buy it.Please avoid all albums from the lousy pussycat dolls as recommended by him.

Triple H(as Fed Up): The Pussycat Dolls are awesome and better than Journey. Shawn Michaels(as Hellraiser): Journey are so 1981. Triple H: I got some news for ya, Journey are great musicians and were a GREAT BAND who thrived on music. Shawn Michaels: This concert has Journey at the top of their game. Triple H: The Pussycat Dolls are good to look at and get off(meaning m*st*rb*t*ng) at but their music s*cks. Shawn Michaels: This Journey concert has classics like Escape, Who's Crying Now, Mother Father, Where Were You and Wheel in the Sky among many others. Triple H: Neal Schon kicks *ss on the guitar. Shawn Michaels: Steve Perry was the voice. If you are not down with Journey and D-X we got TWO WORDS FOR YA(crowd yells "S*CK IT!)

        4 out of 5 stars A real wing-ding..........2004-11-18

This show seems to be slightly above average, as far as the 2000 tour is concerned.

First, the good: The opening set is 19 songs, longer than average. The opener 'Oceans' is worth the price by itself, as it's one of the rarer PJ live songs. On this set, it shows that it's a great opening song on par with 'Release' and 'Long Road'. 'Grievance' and 'Corduroy' are tighter and more energetic than they usually are- I might be wrong, but I believe the performance of 'Grievance' was on the 2000 Touring Band DVD, aka "The Greatest Thing In The History Of Humanity". 'Not For You' and the 'Man' songs, 'Betterman' and 'Nothingman', are pristine and passionate. The encore includes great versions of 'Once', 'Footsteps', and 'Rockin in the Free World'. It also bears mentioning that the teal-green color of these CD's gets my vote for best bootleg color of the 2000 tour.

The bad: A flubbed 'God's Dice' leads into momentum killers 'Animal' and 'Red Mosquito', neither of which are particularly impressive tonight. Crowd participation is lackluster on 'Small Town', and 'Lukin' is a 50-second train wreck. By the time they hit the point where they usually break, Ed's starting to show some wear- the vocals on 'Go' sound tired and strained. The encore, which usually tops 8 or 9 songs, is a short 6 tonight.

All in all, I still recommend this set, but it has some flubs that keep it from ranking among the best.

5 out of 5 stars Short But Effective.......2001-11-03

Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This second show in Houston is one of the shortest sets in the entire Pearl Jam bootleg series, at least 15 minutes shorter than the tour average. Who knows why, but this is a very energetic performance that makes up in enthusiasm what it lacks in length. This gig is the second of two nights in Houston, and the previous night's performance was below average and occasionally disastrous. Before skipping town, PJ made up to the locals with this punchy show. The biggest advantage of this bootleg is a very intriguing set list, which contains many rarities that the band played very rarely during the tour. "Oceans" makes one of only two tour appearances here to open the show in majestic fashion. Die-hard PJ fanatics may notice that the band's rendition of this song is rather different that the studio version on **Ten**, and is much closer to the "remix" that was released as a B-side with the "Even Flow" CD single. Other surprises tonight include a crushing and intricate "Red Mosquito" in which Mike McCready melts your brain with amazing slide work, a sparkling "Faithful" and a real scorcher in "Whipping." The show ends in a very unusual fashion with the rare and creepy "Footsteps," then "Crazy Mary" and an intense rendition of Young Neil's "Rockin' in the Free World." One interesting aspect of this bootleg is the presence of someone with an air horn (like they use at hockey games) very close to the soundboard.

4 out of 5 stars an overlooked show?.......2001-07-01

This is the ninth show that I have purchased. I am pleased with each one of them. I was not a Pearl Jam fan before I listened to these incredible releases. They demonstrate that Pearl Jam must be fully appreciated live. I picked out ten shows that would give the widest song selections with some of the best performances. They include Cardiff, Katowice I & II, Hamburg, Tampa, Philadelphia I, Pittsburg, St. Louis, Houston II and Nevada. This gives me a total seventy-nine distinct songs from some outstanding performances.

I have not really heard much about this Houston show. The setlist must not be a wide appeal for most. I find this show to have an excellent alternative set for a different listening experience when sampling this huge offering from an awesome tour.

"Oceans" gives this set a very distinctive opener and signifies that this night is going to be full of suprises. Four standard rockers follow and then a hot rendition of "Red Mosquito." The next highlight is a very tasty "Faithful." "Daughter" is always very well done and this one doesn't disappoint. The next song is "Off He Goes" and its a beauty. Closing out the first set is a not often played "Parting Ways." The band comes back for the encore set with a vengence and tears through "Do The Evolution", "Whipping" and "Once." Then a treat with sweet renditions of "Footsteps","Crazy Mary" and "Keep On Rocking In The Free World" for an excellent Pearl Jam finale!

There it is, my first review. Keep on rocking!!

3 out of 5 stars HTown is OKAY it's OKAY.......2001-05-10

Nice show as are all the bootlegs. Sound is a little weak in places, but overall a nice show. It opens with a rare love song about Mr. V's gal, and it has Faithful so you cannot complain about that. The Daughter add on is REM's The Wrong Child which was refreshing to hear. I haven't heard that for years. Any show you can pick up is well worth it, so I'd just buy the one's with fresh songs i.e. get the shows with crazy mary, RVM, the Philly Breath show, and vegas for MLB's Crown. It's hard to imagine Hard To Imagine wasn't on a setlist, but Chicago Cab is probably gathering dust at your local record shop. Support PJ whenever or wherever you can.
