Product Description
Q-Ball and Curt Cazal, of JVC Force and Strong Island fame, release the debut QNC LP with a little help from their friends Guru, M.O.P., Camp Lo, Aim, Kate Rogers and Dubble D.
QNC found worldwide fame as JVC Force, propelled into the limelight by the now classic track Strong Island. A relationship with Grand Central was forged through Rae & Christian and Aim collaborations, with the pair featuring on Northern Sulphuric Soul and Cold Water Music.
The relationship firmly cemented, the pair went down a storm at Grand Centrals 10th birthday celebrations in Manchester and London where they presented a taster of what was to come on their first album for the label.
Strong beats and creative loops galore, the album was made to fill a void in the genre: "Being that the industry is seeing the departure of so many classic and skilled MCs, it is now in the hands of the dedicated few who choose to stay in it to forge some change in this profit-generated, poster-boy craft."
Each track has its own unique appeal, from the old school style of rap on Hype, Fresh, Live (feat. Aim) to the sumptuous vocal contribution of chanteuse Kate Rogers on I Wish. Fans of Dubble Ds new album ???? will also note the presence of Would You. "We sit down and make sure the integrity of the jam is there. We dont want to shortchange DJs and fans", says Cazal. Qball adds his two pence. "We got real street trunk thumpers, up-tempo joints. Youre going to hear a well thought out production - every jam serves a purpose."
The album was recorded and mixed partially at the original legendary D&D Studios, NYC as well as at the new facility, dubbed D&D Studios, East (operated by Curt Cazal).and all of the original acclaimed engineers remained as an integral part of the process. The result? A flawlessly produced 12-track album brimming with hip hop gems, from one of the genres most pioneering acts around.

Great Stuff.......2006-08-03
You can argue about which Smith/Montgomery recording is better, this or "The Further Adventures." Me, I like 'em both and I don't care. This was definitely the more upbeat of the two, that much is certainly true, plus this one features what I consider to be the highlight of their collaboration, "Happy-Go-Lucky Local" (aka "Night Train"). For that track alone this is worth owning. Montgomery's hollow-body sound was the epitome of the jazz guitar to me, and he was rarely in better form. Both men just seem to be having fun. I think you will, too.
Jimmy Smith at the Top of His Game.......2006-07-21
If your reading this and considering a Jimmy Smith CD, you probably already know that Jimmy Smith was one of the greatest jazz organists ever. You probably recognize Wes Montgomery and also respect him for being one of the better jazz guitarists. So you ask, what is the CD about?
The record was cut in late 1966 when Jimmy Smith had already paid his dues and was at the top of his game, pushing the Hammond B-3 Organ to its limits, and was an inspiration to every keyboard player in every genre after 1996. If you don't already know, Jimmy Smith combined blues and jazz and his favorite sub-genre was a sorta shuffle blues that had a great melody line for about 12 bars, then broke into solos by the various personnel.
The CD was recorded by the legendary Rudy Van Gelder who was the engineer from about 1955 into the late 1970's for Blue Note, Verve, and finally CTI records. He has clean sound, and this is in Stereo, and is not too out of balance like many of the earlier Stereo experiments.
The CD also features Wes Montgomery, a terrific jazz guitarist in the Earl Klugh and George Benson genre. If you like either, you'll like the licks here.
The CD features some big band accompaniments on "Down by the Riverside" which detract from the overall groove the music, and sounds out of place. The band was basically a quartet playing small quartet stuff, and then this 10 piece band comes wailing in.
The best song of the CD is "James and Wes", a signature shuffle blues piece with a terrific melody and some great jams. If you want a greatest hits of Jimmy Smith, this song would have to on it.
mellow mood.......2005-11-19
Not pulling any strings here -- I love this recording. It has a mellow, 60's surf type sound to it and I love it. I could definitely see it as a soundtrack to a surf film, because it gives off a vibe of care-free cruisin, no hassles. The improvisation helps eccentuate this feeling. Standouts in my opinion are Jimmy & Wes, 13, and OGD. I am a big fan of mellow guitar jazz and this is just a prime example. In addition, the improvisation is really interesting and adds to the character of the recording. I give it 4 stars because i could do without a couple songs, but the ones I dig surely overshadow that. Recommended
An essential jazz masterpiece for any collection.......2005-11-04
This is one of greatest jazz recordings ever - the greatest jazz organist, the greatest jazz guitarist, the cream of the crop of jazz studio musicians and a superlative big band score.
While Jimmy Smith had a prolific career spanning decades, Wes Montgomery died not long after this recording of a heart attack. This and A Day in the Life are his two great recordings. The recording quality of this is superior to the later. And this has more pure jazz improvisation.
There is something indifinable about the mix of these two geniuses, but this recording really cooks!
I have had this recording in various incarnations since it came out, and never get tired of it.
I am listening to it now and it is 1,000 volt sound!
If you don't have it, get it.
The Dynamic Duo!!!.......2005-03-15
I have been a Wes Montgomery fan for the majority of my life. And a majority of that part, i have only known the orchestral side of him, that I was introduced to as a real young kid. Perhaps, that was the only jazz introduction I got as a real little kid, before around age 12 where I got into heavy jazz.
This was my first introduction to the real jazz side of him. IT was owned by my uncle who had put it on the turntable, where I admired it in awh. "That's the same guy who played, Elenore Rigby?"
Jimmy Smith, monster of the Hammond B-3 compliments Wes good. The whole album is great! It's basically just another jazz album, but never-the-less has some killer tracks!

Nadja and Anne-Marie in concert.......2006-07-31
I have been privileged to see Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg perform live four times, the last two in chamber music situations with her current piano partner, Anne-Marie McDermott. So this, for me, is a rare instance of my buying a recording as a souvenir of seeing someone fantastic in person, rather than the other way round. (Other examples, for me, were tenor Jon Vickers and conductor Klaus Tennstedt.)
For me, personally, Anne-Marie McDermott is one of the world's greatest pianists and certainly the greatest living woman pianist. She imbues all of her playing with both a respect for the musical text and a passion for the musical drama. She is incapable of playing a dull phrase or an uninteresting movement of anything; in fact, she would be my candidate for the next great complete Beethoven piano sonata cycle.
When paired with Nadja, their playing as a team transcends what each of them can do individually. To say that this program "strikes sparks" would be an understatement. Every note, every phrase of the larger works is filled with an inner tension and complete commitment to excellence not often encountered in today's homogenized "classics lite" world, and the Kreisler "fillip" is played with exactly the right amount of schmaltz and humor.
To say more would be redundant; these performances speak for themselves. Buy, and enjoy.
Nadja live.......2006-05-28
Any recording of Nadja is great, but a live recording of her, is extra special. I have seen her live six times within the last three years, and have traveled out of state, four of those six times.
Nadja has another live recording, also on her own private label, which is simply fantastic, with the great Tchaikovsky violin concerto, and a beautiful new composition, by Clarice Assad.

Customer Reviews:
Wish that I could play like this!.......2001-03-24
My husband and I had the pleasure of attending two Stefan Milenkovich concerts in the city of Torreón, Mexico, where we live, one in 2000, one this year. This young man is incredible! I was so thrilled to find this CD among your treasures. This is the second one we are buying, this one for a friend who missed the last concert. I also recommend the other Stefan Milencovich CD I bought from you, also playing Paganini pieces accompanied by a second violin and a cello. Paganini Recital is music to my ears! And I strongly recommend it.
Unsurpassed Technique.......2001-01-06
Paganini is mellow to the ear, but merciless to the violinist. We had a priviledge to listen Milenkovich's Paganini recital live. He is the absolute master of his left hand acrobatics required to play those grandiose pieces.
Well played.......2000-11-01
A friend recommended the CD to me. At first, I was conservative about buying something from two pretty unknown artists. However, now, I think that it was definitely worth the money. Some reviews in here say that this CD is not for beginning listeners and I completely disagree. I am not the classical type, but to me, the music is easy and appealing. I don't know exactly how to say this, but there's something both admirable and intimate in the playing, something that I can somehow identify with. I hope that this review will help people who are undecided like I was make a good choice.
Thumbs up.......2000-10-04
Thumbs up for this album and one of the few violinists who can actually plays Paganini. The execution is clean, clear, and surprisingly expressive. It is very seldom that the difficulty of this level can be disguised so well. The sound is natural, free of the forcing idiosyncracies often found in modern interpretations; listening to the CD alone, one can hardly imagine the almost-superhuman techniques that Paganini's music takes. So far, this is one of the most nearly perfect albums I've ever heard. I would heartily recommend it to everyone.
You Couldn't Find Better Paganini if You Tried.......2000-01-04
Wow! This guy can sure play Paganini! Not only is this CD jam-packed with virtuosic stunts executed perfectly, but Milenkovich truly makes music out of these mind-boggling pieces. I have several CDs of different people playing some of these pieces, but this one tops them all by far. Added bonus-the guy looks great too!

The Helio Sequence - 'Com Plex' (Cavity Search).......2004-10-25
Nine tunes of semi-innocent sounding space pop that has nothing to prove whatsoever.Hailing from Porland,OR,believe it or not, this is a duo.Brandon Summers is on guitar and vocals and Ben Weikel is on keyboards and drums.I happen to notice sort of a Beatles/Cheap Trick like melody here.Best tracks are "Just Married Jane",the spell-binding "My Heart",the soaring "Sassafras",their glossy cover of the Beatles "Tomorrow Never Knows"(now, that's class-the way they do it anyway),"Big Jet Sky" and "Demographics".Okay,I confess.'Com Plex' is better than what I had expected. Was recorded in a one-room music store of the two musician's day job.I've caught these guys playing live and if you get the chance to do so yourself, take my advise:bring earplugs. They can probably up and quit their day job now.
Cool Sounds.......2002-12-31
There's a mixture of fluid and static music in this record that makes it a bizarre cross between Kraftwerk and King Black Acid. Most people don't know who KBA is so instead we'll call it a mixture between Kraftwerk and early Pink Floyd. Throw into that bit of late-Beatles and Blurish Brit-pop. There's a soft electonica underbelly to Helio Sequence which heard by itself is almost trancy. On top of it is wet delay-ridden guitars soaring toward spacerock. Its innovative and gets better with every listen. Its power is in the music and instrumental jams/solos. The songs are not particularly catchy and lack strong hooks -- in other words after listening to the album no songs get stuck in my head. But it is also complex and textured which makes each listening a fresh experience. The album feels a bit restrained as if the musicians are unable or unwilling to let loose or perhaps that they are slaves to their electronica fundament. Check out track #3. That's about as poppy as they get.
Wow!!!.......2002-05-01
I started sending out my bands demo a couple days before I got this album in the mail. It's intimidating to hear a couple of new guys that recorded at the house (much like I have) and they sound this good. I can't believe they're not bigger than they are. It's not just [good] music, its deep, highly creative, and catchy as hell. Some bands do something and you say "Wow, I know where your coming from!!" But with these guys your saying "Wow, I wish I knew where you were coming from!!" I bought this album because of the MBV comparisons, and I kept hearing the beatles mentioned and you do kind of get the sense of Kevin Shields doing Sgt. Peppers, but this album is by no means a rehash of anything I've ever heard. I gotta check out their next release!
Absolutely amazing.......2001-09-13
Two kids perform and record an entire album and put together nine tunes worthy of heavy airplay. This is a truly professional-sounding production with catchy tunes and psychedelic, deep music. The comparison to the Beatles is natural, especially since they do a respectable cover. Very English-sounding.
I'm still amazed at how little-known this record is (but is probably understandable with the small label and little publicity). I expect we will be hearing much more from them, on a bigger label with an even more impressive mastering of their next album. Take this CD to your friends' next party and watch them as they listen to Com Plex. Pity it isn't available on vinyl.
Simply amazing.......2001-05-03
This is undoubtedly the best album I've purchased this year. If you like Mercury Rev, this one is better. It's more creative, more energetic, more out there. It has just the right mix of lyrical melody and drugged-out oddity. All I can say is I hope they're putting out more some time soon.

E incredibile la bravisima interpretazione dagli musici, ma la partitura é una dalle piu belle dal romantico maestro Paganini.

I think this is an excellent performance of Paganini's works. Both the technique and the expression are impressive. There is nothing that I don't like about it. I definitely recommend it to others.

Stefan Milenkovich is brilliant. If you ever want a Paganini collection, this is it.

Virtuoso Violin.......2004-08-06
This is a wonderful CD. Paganini was, in life, perhaps the finest violinist ever to perform, and these pieces exhibit the violin's range of moods, from heartbreaking tenderness to the seemingly infinite energy of the "Moto Perpetuo". The title piece lives up to its name, drawing the listener into a world of eternal dynamism in a few minutes. I'm not sure how Paganini does it; it feels like magic. This very energy, however, makes the "Perpetuo" exhausting to the ear--I defy you to listen to it twice, all the way through, without feeling that you've been run ragged. The other pieces present a nice contrast to the "Perpetuo", with moments of pathos, beautiful rhapsodic passages, and above all a brilliant exhibition of the sheer *joy* of the violin. Even in pathos, the slow pieces have nothing sad or depressing about them, giving the lie to the violin's stereotype of being a sad instrument. What is heartbreaking about the violin is its tenderness, not sadness, and the luminous beauty of its sound, like the clear blue vault of the sky on a cloudless summer day. This is what Paganini brings out most strikingly in most of these pieces.
