Any album that covers such a wide range of artists--from Louis Armstrong and Fats Waller to Guy Clark, George Jones, and Lefty Frizzell to Anne Murray and the Cheap Suit Serenaders--is bound to catch your eye. To be sure, Rani Arbo's quirky string-swing sound will intrigue fans of genre-benders like Dan Hicks, even if the licks here are sometimes only lukewarm rather than hot. Ukulele, mandolin, tenor banjo, Dobro, and homemade percussion all contribute to the musical mix. The result is certainly an eclectic and enjoyable listen, although pastiche sometimes does get in the way of the picking. Then again, isn't a pleasant, lounge-ready mix what you'd expect from an album called Cocktail Swing? --Marc Greilsamer

5 out of 5 stars great.......2002-11-23

This is a great CD. It's zydeco and folk and swing and jazz and fun.

5 out of 5 stars light and romantic.......2002-10-12

If I ever find a sucker to marry me, I'm walking down the aisle to Rani Arbo singing "That's All."
This is an incredible CD. I normally prefer sad songs to sound, well, sad... this genre is a bit lighter and more chipper than I'd like when I want to cry in my cheesecake over a love that's gone wrong. However, Rani's voice makes up for the fact that I just had to change a preference.
As is often the way with bands who headline one of their members, the other members' names aren't as obvious. The gentleman who sings "Snowbird" does a fantastic, FUN job of it -- and of course, Arbo's harmonies are as sweet as the honeysuckle the neighborhood kids would taste when we were kids. Listen to the sound snippet examples to see what I mean.
This CD was recommended to me by one of my professors. My liking this CD has absolutely NO bearing on my grade -- and I love it, anyway. Got it this week, and listened to it six or seven times already

5 out of 5 stars Swinging High.......2001-12-07

You can't help but be happy while listening to this album. It's full of fun, laughter and really lovely singing. How many albums have torch songs, crooning, jazz violin, ukelele AND kazoo solos? Not nearly enough. In addition, my husband and I are deeply grateful to finally know all the words to "Singing in the Bathtub", a classic we originally heard sung by Bugs Bunny.

I've had the pleasure of hearing Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem (and Salamander Crossing) live several times, and from this album you can tell how much fun these guys have playing together, without even laying eyes on them. If you have the chance to see them live, do it, if only to witness the miracle of the Drumship Enterprise, but if you can't; this is the next best thing.

    Album Description

Next up to bat on 6 HOLE RECORDS/ HALL OF JUSTUS MUSIC is L.E.G.A.C.Y. His style is dark and thoughtful, a reflection of his days as a shorty doing crimes both petty, and not so petty. L.E.G.A.C.Y. as an artist is committed to reinvigorating hip-hop, and taking us back to the era where rappers were leaders with originality and creativity. With most of the production on his debut LP PROJECT MAYHEM being handled by 9th WONDER (Jay-Z, Memphis Bleek, Murs, Jean Grae and De La Soul) he can't lose.

5 out of 5 stars Flawless From Beginning to End!.......2007-05-29

This Pure Hip Hop Album has Intelligent Flows and Head Nod Beats Thoughout The Entire CD and Lacks Nothing. Its Easily One of the Best Buys
of 2005, A CD that if u Compared it To any other Rap Cd u brought in 2005 u would be like those other Cd are Lacking the Quailty and Beats that Lace the entire Project Mayhem Album. U wont Find Any Skippable Tracks on this One. 9th And Khrysis Show why their really Schooling alot of Producers on how to Make HOT Dope Hiphop Beats. Then on top of that u have L.E.G.A.C.Y. with some of the most Intelligent Vocab ive heard in a while. Every Song Has a Different Vibe to it with Jaw Dropping Beats. If u like PETE ROCK n CL Smooth or Gangstarr Albums then ull love this One. This is Real Hiphop Personified.

    5 out of 5 stars Lyrics = Dope, Beats = Dope!.......2007-04-13

U cant Go Wrong with this Album. The lyrics are Intelligent and for People who love HiPhop Music and dont wanna analyze EveryThing like They some Schoolteachers or like any of the reviewers below me has ever made a beat or a hiphop album but yet they think they CRITICS of hipop music LOL. IF U wanna just wanna enjoy Good Hiphop music, This album is Perfectly Dope from START to FINISH. DOPE BEATS AND DOPE RHYMES. HIPHOP AND THAT HARD YALLLLL.

    3 out of 5 stars dope cd.....but lakking.......2005-08-23

I bought this cd a while back and ill say, this a conscous rap cd.......

as for production....its mostly is lakking on this cd....

9th wonder and khrisis handle all the productionon this one....
but its like kinda generic and sipmle in some songs, NOT the best 9th wonder n khrisis beats ive herd, coulda been a lot better...and as for the ppl claiming this is a classic....
    Ur way off.....

Legacy has good topics in his rhymes, but sometimes they sound the same in most songs, kinda reminds of vordul mega of cannibal ox...

in conclusion, this albums average as best....the production coulda made this one alot better...

but if you like real concscious and real rap like legacy this is for you

3 out of 5 stars Solid But Lacking (3 Stars).......2005-08-18

L.E.G.A.C.Y. is next up to bat for the Justus League and for this reviewer, the results are mixed. Legs definitely has some rhyme skill, but the album doesn't have the diversity it takes to hold ones attention. 9th Wonder and Khrysis handle all of the boardwork for Project Mayhem. The production is good, but not the jaw-dropping stuff you've come to expect from 9th Wonder and the underrated Khrysis. I'd say it ranges from pretty good to average. On tracks like "I'm A Star" feat. Chaundon, Median, and Joe Scudda, the beats are tight, but the lyrics don't do them any justice. And someone needs to tell Joe Scudda to put the mic down and slowly back away from it. Dude has zero rhyme skills.

But there are some strong cuts to be found. L.E.G.A.C.Y. shares some vivid lyrics about his life struggles on "Pain In Life" and "Broken Heart Disease". Also, Leggy Hendrix and Phonte team up on "Pure" and they both turn in impressive performances. As shown on "Imperfect World" feat. Kiesha Shontelle and Percy Miracles (Phonte's singing alter ego), L.E.G.A.C.Y. is at his best when giving social commentary or telling stories. This is the L.E.G.A.C.Y. that I pay to hear.

Project Mayhem is a solid release, but too many of the songs sound the same whether it's the beat or Leggy's subject matter. There are some great moments, but the album doesn't shift gears enough and as a result, as the previous reviewer said, it's kind of boring. Project Mayhem lacks the energy to create any kind of buzz.

Standout Tracks: Pain In Life, Pure feat. Phonte (My Favorite), Mayhem, Fast Girls, Too Long, Insomnia, Imperfect World feat. Keisha Shontelle

3 out of 5 stars Good CD But is very boring.......2005-08-16

The beats are Grimey and then at times generic but they are nice very different then the usuall 9th Wonder affair but not necessarlilly better then some of his projects. Legacy also does a great job at spitting the problems with this album is it is boring and lacks great form and structuring on the tracks and does not play out that good wich is it's major downfall
